Title: HEAD AND FOOT
Post by: bk on May 30, 2004, 12:00:22 AM
Well, you've read the notes from head to foot, you know what is needed and necessary, not necessarily in that order, so let's keep the holiday partay going with loads of lovely postings.

Oh - I forgot to read the notes because I'm so upset. >:(
I don't care who said it first - the one who was famous for saying it was THE SCHNOZZ. Anyway, what do I know from fershluganah  early television? I was in Hungary! Unless it was said in Hungarian I wouldn't know who said it. So there. NOW I'll read the Notes. >:(

Okay. I looked it up on Google. It's William Bendix as Chester A. Riley in "The Life of Riley"(1953-58) who said "What a revoltin' development this is!" Extra info for bonus points: Mr. Bendix was born 1906. He died 1964.
NOW do I get the stupid car?

Yes, Chester A. Riley - played first on TV by Mr Jackie Gleason.  He always wore a uniform like Ralph Kramden and carried a lunchbox, but I forget what he did for a living?  Did he work at a factory?

Hmmmmmmmm.....which television character you watched when you were small had the occupation you most wanted to have when you grew up?

Hmmmmmmmmm....I thought Clark Kent made newspaper reporting look like a lot of fun.   And Mr Novak even made teaching look okay.

But you guys had me cracking up.  BK gave DR Charles Pogue photo approval.  Ha ha. :)

Oh BK I know what you mean about those cell phones being addictive (the ones that take photos).

I was out with a friend yesterday.  And he pulled out his tiny little cell phone.  And it could take pictures and videos.  And immediately I grabbed it to play.

It was amazing. I loved it and now want one. :)

DR Danise:

I'm part way through reading your story.  Very interesting.  And I'm so glad you didn't let the people at the hotel take advantage of you.

I cannot believe that they are allowed to rent those small rooms out for full price.  Totally ridiculous.  Good for you!

I watched an Ewan movie late last night, Danny Boyle's TRAINSPOTTING.
A great film, which doe not glorify drug use, despite its being about several heroin addicts in Scotland.
Fine transfer from Miramax of the International Version, in other words - - the spoken English is indeed of the heavily brogued variety.  The film was mostly redubbed for its American release, and several shots which had been cut to acquire an R rating have been returned to the film.
I saw this on its opening night.  Read the fine Irvin Welsh novel.  Viewed the laserdiscs, but never got around to TRAINSPOTTING on dvd until now.
Harrowing, humorous, compelling and graphic; definitely not for all tastes.
Ewan is soooo young!  Robert Carlyle, however, steals every scene in which he appears, playing the film's most unlikeable character!

In light of bad movie day yesterday, I took off the shelf a DVD I had gotten for Christmas but hadn't watched yet: CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC.

I did see this movie at the theater way back when, and we all knew then it was full of horrible acting and a non-existent story. That said, the music is SO involving, and good lord but they've given it a DTS-ES and Dolby Digital-EX soundfield! Even a Best Picture Oscar winning musical like CHICAGO doesn't have that kind of sophisticated sound design for the DVD, and here something like CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC has it. Amazing!

BTW, if that is Glenn Hughes' voice singing "Danny Boy," he has a fine vocal quality.

I don't know if we've done this one before, but, sitting here taking in REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER (and laughing out loud, a lot); What are your favorite Peter Sellers performances?
My favorite Sellers exchange is still: "Does your dog bite?"
Title: Re:HEAD AND FOOT
Post by: Matt H. on May 30, 2004, 07:35:09 AM
Well, I'd have to pick Sellers in his two Oscar nominated masterpieces of comedy - DR. STRANGELOVE and BEING THERE.

We've mentioned this before when talking about the PINK PANTHER movies, but my favorite is the third one: RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER. It's not in the MGM boxed set since it was made for another company, but it's my favorite one by far.

One of these days, I need to sit down and do a non-stop PANTHER festival and watch all of the ones Sellers actually made (not culled from outtakes, etc.)

One Sellers movie that I've always heard raves about and never seen is THE PARTY. One of these days, I'll catch up to it on TCM. They show it fairly often.
Title: Re:HEAD AND FOOT
Post by: Jrand73 on May 30, 2004, 07:54:21 AM
THE PARTY is funnier the more you watch it....  And "Does your dog bite" is one of my favorites as well.  When he is questioning all the suspects in the original PINK PANTHER and keeps stepping on one woman's feet....and he and Capucine in the bedroom scenes...LOL.

But I will choose DR STRANGELOVE as having my favorite Sellars performance(s) - and LOLITA a close second.

THE PARTY is hysterically funny!  BUT, you know horse racing, one man's humor is another man's tragedy.
That said, THE PARTY plays like a silent movie, with action going on in nearly every space of the film frame.  Some gems, some which sit there like so much fish.  MGM dvd is quite good.

Yes, I'll do a search at the TCM website to see if THE PARTY is going to play anytime soon. If not, then, I'll see out a used copy of it on DVD.

I saw the wonderful Barbara Brussell last night. Doing a show she called Songs From her Piano Bench and even previewing her new show on Alan Jay Lerner. Andrea Marcovici was in the audience. She was helping Barbara prepare her new show. And we know what Jason Graae thinks about Miss Marcovici. If you don't just listen to his live at the "Signgrill" Cabaret. Produced by whatshisname

The Party is one of my favorites. I haven't seen it in a long time, but I enjoyed it because there are so many character actors that were familar to me from the 60's and 70's whose names for the most part I never knew but always were noticable and did fine work. And I susspect that if I saw the film I would say "Where are they now?"

Good morning. Have already gone for two walks (one to the park with the Wonderdog; one just for me) and done a load of laundry. Now I'm watching CBS Sunday Morning - consistently the best show on television. I'm glad they've stopped airing it Sunday at 6 AM in LA. It's now on at the more reasonable hour of 8 AM. There's an item coming up about being an understudy -- should be interesting.

Change of plans here. The pool party/cookout has been transformed into a cocktail party/dinner owing to the absence of sun, an abundance of clouds, and some hints of drizzle.

We have two weeks of summer-like swelter, and the day I finally have an outing to get some sun, it disappears. Ah, me. One will survive.

Anyway, I'll be popping in and out during the afternoon and E&T in the evening.

Hello, all!  I've been doing laundry as well, and I'm back to this Men's Chorus ordeal, which should have been a pleasurable experience but several things went bad:
1,  The Chorus was so  late with contracts that the arranger had other deadlines to meet and hasn't finished the accompaniments for me to score.  They've been trickling in at the rate of one/day for about a week now, even though he knew my deadline because of Goodspeed was June1!
2.  I accepted the job and gave them a good rate last October, thinking I'd be scoring at liesure from March to June 1.  I got my contract the 2nd week of March because the Chorus' business manager is incompetent.
3.  Because of the deadlines, I've been forced to farm out four charts, which will cost me around $2,000!

The good news is that I've heard from DRPanni, and she's arrived in NYC in good shape.  I am so looking forward to our Joe Allen event on Tuesday.

I will be E&T most of today and tomorrow, but I'll try to jump in on Chat.

The CBS Sunday Morning item on understudies was excellent. They interviewed various understudies of present Broadway hits. Let me tell you -- Hugh Jackman's understudy is zowie gorgeous! Poor guy. They talked to Lainie Kazan about what it was like being BS's understudy in FUNNY GIRL. She told the story of getting ready to go on one night - finally- when Babs had strep throat. She invited the press, friends, etc. Was in make-up ready to go on at 7:50 - when - you guessed it. She said she went to the coffee shop next door and cried. And because the press was there, it made the papers the next day that she DIDN'T go on. BUT she did get to go on the next night and the press came back.
One understudy for AVENUE Q said the audience booed when it was announced that she was going on. She said "Hey! Screw you! Give me a chance!" In the final moment of the piece they asked Kazan about bad audience reaction on hearing about understudies going on. She looked into the camera and said, "Be careful. You may see magic happen." Great item. And it was followed by an ad for the Tonys. One week. I'm excited.

Strange dreams last night, although they're too hazy to remember anymore.

I am quite a noid right now, dear readers.  This annoyance has to do with something I picked up at the book fair yesterday - a nice gesture for a former dear reader because I thought it would be something they needed.  I wrote a nice two line e-mail last night asking if they needed it, and this morning I got back the rudest repsonse I have ever received via e-mail.  Now, there is a story behind all this, and if I don't receive an apology, I'm afraid I shall write a novelette about the whole sorry situation right here at haineshisway.com.  It's a fascinating story anyway.  It will make for fine reading.

I acatually met Martha Teichner (a Sunday Morning reporter) a couple of weeks ago.  She couldn't have been nicer.  I'm a particular fan of Bill Giest's stories as well.

I just caught this too!  I woke up, turned on the TV in my bedroom and was flipping channels.  They had just finished a segment on something and announce that coming up next was this story on understudies!  I jumped out of bed, put some clothes on, ran into the living room, turned on the TV and VCR, opened up a brand new blank tape and was able to start recording before the segment started!  Whew! ;D

Also, did anyone notice that Barrett Foa (who is John Tartaglia's understudy in Avenue Q) played Jesus in the production of Godspell for which BK produced the cast recording??  If I were religious, I'd be worried about me finding Jesus very attractive! (well, only a little worried. ;) )

Greetings, Dear Readers.  I slept past nine this morning, which really annoys me.  I know most people enjoy sleeping in, but not I.  I much prefer to be done with breakfast and reading the newspaper with a full day yet in front of me!

Miss Christine Andreas' performance last night was quite enjoyable.  The show was comprised of a nice mix of Broadway, cabaret, and "jazz."  I use the quotation marks because Miss Andreas herself described the "jazz" numbers as being more "jazz-inflected" than anything else.  Truth be told, the jazz was more in the instrumental arrangements (Miss Andreas was backed by a piano and bass) than in the vocal styling.

Highlight numbers from the set include "They Say It's Wonderful," "Fly Me to the Moon," a big waltzy number from The Scarlet Pimpernel, and two back to back ballads about breaking up that left the audience looking for the closest bridge off of which to jump.

There wasn't a whole lot patter, and though Miss Andreas is not the chilliest cabaret performer I've seen, she's not the warmest one, either.  Still, she did connect with the audience.  She has a marvelously clear instrument, and she excels in telling stories by way of song.

The venue--Catalina Bar & Grill--is a little odd.  This is a new location for a venerable jazz institution in Hollywood.  The room is "L"-shaped, with the shorter leg perhaps half again as wide as the longer leg.  The stage is set at the juncture of the two legs, facing the tables in the short leg.  Last night's show was maybe 40% sold, so everyone there was fairly close to the stage.  Some patrons at sold out shows would be rather far from the stage though.  Though I prefer the new Cinegrill's concentric rings, there is far more elbow room at the new Catalina than at the new Cinegrill.  The new Catalina suffers one of the problems of the old Cinegrill, however, in the form of columns that might obstruct some patrons' views.

And a word on my usual bugaboo:  amplification.  Though it seemed to improve as the show went on, and though she was maybe 25 feet away from me, at first it sounded as if Miss Andreas was singing in a tunnel.

Seth Sikes, who was the choirmaster of Our Wedding - The Musical (those with the CD will find him on the far left, under the cast list) is cute, and, today and tomorrow, you can catch him for free as Jesus in Godspell at Circle in the Square on W. 50th (the sign says Frozen) - tonight at 8 and tomorrow at 2 and 8.  Or, wait till next month and see him in Fame for $81.25.  I know which I'd choose.

I avoided watching "Trainspotting" for years. When I eventually say it on video I was very impressed. Carlisle can be so good but seems to have made some bad choices in recent years.

A shift away from the topic of "Rebecca". (Manderley)

- it's Manderley, though.

I wasn't sure before I posted initially, so I checked on Google. As it turns out, both spellings seem to be used interchangeably these days. Although I'm sure that the "ey" version is what du Maurier used - so is therefore the correct one - but both now seem to be out there. As shown in the following excerpts:
Barnes and Noble. com: ...Maxim takes his new bride to Manderlay, a large country estate in Cornwall.
Amazon. com:  " ..."Last Night I Dreamt I Went To Manderley Again." So the second Mrs. Maxim de Winter remembered the chilling events that led her...

Haven't seen it since it first came out. Found it very powerful back then. Especially as halfway through the film I suddenly knew exactly what was going to happen. Like a deja-vu feeling that didn't end after a few moments like they usually do. It was incredibly unnerving. And it wasn't until later that night it suddenly hit me that many years before I had read the du Maurier novella.

Well, it just shows to go you that being thoughtful is a losing proposition.

The e-mail, in its entirety - "i told you never to contact me.  ever."  Now, the folly of this e-mail is that while the person and I had come to an agreement that it was best not to continue our friendship (I will go into the reasons soon), you must understand that no such dictum was ever said to me at any time.  Furthermore, the last communication I had with the person was back in January or February and that communication via IM was not instigated by me but by this person.  At that time the person asked how I was and told me a few things that were going on in their life.  Again, I did not initiate the IM session, they did.  At the end of it, I wished the person well and I have not had further communication, until my thoughtful e-mail about this book.

In my heart of hearts, I think this person was being "directed" to write me the rude response, but that's a whole other story which long-time denizens of this here site know a bit of.  It is that tale that I think I'll share for the first time because it will help explain so many things that once went on here.

I'm watching The Wolf Man.  That might just be my favorite of the classic Universal monster series.  I do like Frankenstein and Dracula very much, but there's something about The Wolf Man that just gets to me.  It's got a lead character that's so likeable that it becomes tragic in a way that no other Universal horror from that era is.

We just got back from the Mueeum of Television and Radio's presentation of Part 2 of highlights from Tony Award shows.  Again nothing was shown that is on the PPS/DVD.  While Post 1976 shows were not as good as pre-1976, there were no real clunkers.  The highlight for me was the late Dorothy Louden doing "Fifty Percent".  We also had Jennifer Holiday doing "And I Am Telling You I Am Not Screaming", the opening of ""Drood" (poor Jana Robbins), "We Are What We Are" and "I Am What I Am" and more.  Patti Lupone proved how right people are who complain you can't understand a word she says (though she has improved considerably since this tape).  And two numbers choreographed by Fosse from two different shows (FOSSE and BIG DEAL) showed that every number he did was the same thing to different music.  I found it interesting that Jim Dale did not appear in the BARNUM number and Raul Julia was not in the number from NINE, but replacement Judy Kay did the TWENTIETH CENTURY number although contrary to what I had heard the cameras did not show Madeline Kahn in the audience watching her.

Last night almost everything was beautiful at the ballet.  NYCB has got to work on their chorus dances.  Each dancer is fine but they are just a bit out-of-synch which is not always a pretty sight.  Otherwise the soloists were fine and it was enjoyable.  In the lobby I noticed there was a blind man attending.  He must like the music.

Pacific Northwest contingent of Tarnation checking in.  I've been in and out (logged in, but out of my living room).

Right now, I'm listening to Nellie McKay's 2-CD set called "Get Away From Me" (each CD is only about a half hour so that the whole thing is just over an hour).  I've only listened to a couple of songs but so far I really like it (I got it from the library).  According to reviews, she's something like a combination of Doris Day and Eminem.  She's also been compared to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday.  I can see all of them, except Eminem.  I haven't gotten to anything like that yet.  You can get a "Clean" edition...okay, I just got to the song "Sari" and it's sort of a rap song.  It does have "language" but nothing as explicit that "regular" rap songs have.

Why??  Was she that good?  Or did she leave "under a cloud?" (a The Boy Friend reference)

I believe that the reason why is that she alerted the media and other show biz related people to come and see her.

There is a book called Barbra the First decade where I believe read this item. Its been a long time since I read it, but for some strange reason I can remember this tidbit; while I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday

I am exhausted now. Went up to Vancouver to have a  bar-b-q at a friends house and after words we all went to Portland and caroused until the wee hours of the morning...so with 4 hours of sleep I am a bit beat. I am gonna pop in a DVD and see if I can manage to stay awake and watch it!

William E. Lurie: Yes.

High and Low is my favorite Kurosawa film, and one I hope Criterion will revisit soon so we can have an anamorphic transfer.  Why they don't revisit their early releases is beyond me.  They were actually one of the last to start doing anamorphic transfers and those early releases are simply their laserdisc transfers.

Thanks, George. I didn't know you could access Doonesbury that way. Strange how much more powerful it looks (to me, anyway) on paper. Especially because it seems so shockingly out of context - what could be more American than the Sunday comics - and suddenly there's this litany of death right in the middle of it. It really brings home the fact that the names of the dead are the names of young people who should be at home on a leisurely Sunday reading the funny pages.

We started the day with a baby dragon (ie lizard) in the house!  I chased him/her around for over an hour before I caught him/her and left him/her safely out the door.

You have to be very careful in how you catch them because they will drop their tail and I didn't want him/her to waste the only defense he/she has on me.

In case you don't know, they will detach their tail and it will wiggle and jump around, drawing attention to it so whatever is trying to catch the poor little things will go after the tail while they slip away.

They can grow their tail back but it takes a long, long time.  They don't have any defense in the mean time.

Busy day today.  I will tell you that I am typing this without using my glasses because I have a NEW flat panel monitor!  I've wanted one for the longest time and since I had the money left over from the trip, I thought, why not get one?  There were plenty of sales for them.

It's a Xerox 17" but it seems a lot bigger.  I made sure I got one with the black frame which adds to the illusion.

It seems much better/clearer for my eyes.   As I said, I am typing this without using my reading glasses.    Yay!  :)

I also got a charcoal grill which I will assemble tomorrow morning.  We're going to have dirty potatoes (right down in the charcoal), corn on the cob and a nice thick sirloin steak.  I also bought a bag of marshmallows.   Gotta have marshmallows to toast over the coals.

To continue my NYC story.  Spent the day on Monday getting my bearings.  I have to admit that I was a bit overwhelmed by all the people, traffic, buildings, etc.  I did walk down to Macys and bought some jewelry for Mom and myself as a remembrance of the trip.

I guess being from Florida and being near the Mouse, I’m just not into “I love NY” mugs or little Empire State Building statues or such.  Dust collectors are what I call them. I like a rock and something for my jewelry box.

I should explain about the rock.  For years when anyone else would go on vacation, people would say, bring me this or bring me that.  I always asked for a rock from where ever they went.  I figured it didn’t cost anything and would mean as much to me as anything (mug, t-shirt, etc) would.  I have rocks from all over the world.  Now it was my turn to add to the collection.

I remembered to get a rock in SLC city but NYC proved to be a bit of a challenge. But that’s another story.

You know that I had dinner that night with Elmore.  Got to see the table that Bruce always sits at.  We couldn’t sit there because someone already had it.  I could kick myself because I had taken my digital camera with us to the restaurant but we were having such a nice chat I forgot all about it!  Sigh, such is life.

One thing to add, Elmore said something that was repeated to me (or a variant there of) many times by other people .  He said he thought I was brave to come to the city all by myself.

That very night after we had parted company and I went to the Toys R Us store to ride the Ferris wheel, when I gave the guy my ticket to get on the ride said, “Only one?  Your by yourself?”  I said, “Yes.”

He was very nice and waved to me every time I passed by him.  When the ride was over he asked if I had enjoyed it and I told him I had.

Tuesday I took the downtown tour bus and saw a good deal of the city.  I got off at the Empire State Building and spent what seemed like forever waiting in line to get in the building, then forever getting the ticket, then forever going thru security, forever for the sky ride (fun but I hadn’t had my meds yet nor had I eaten anything so it made me a little sick), forever waiting for the elevator to go up, (have you gotten the picture by now?  Humm?).  Anyway, I finely made up to the observation deck where I had the brilliant idea that I would call home and ask if Mom knew where I was calling from.  I pulled the cell phone out but couldn’t get a signal!  Now you would think that there on the top of one the highest buildings in NYC there would be good reception, wouldn’t you?  Then I noticed that others were having the same idea/problem.  No one could get a signal!

So much for my bright idea of calling home.

When I got back down from the clouds, I found I had missed a call on my new phone.  Now with the new phone, I do have voice mail but I had no idea as to how to use it!  I was afraid it was my Mother calling with a problem.  I had to get back on the tour bus and wait until I could find a nice quiet place to get off.

I found a nice quiet little park in the Village and was able to access the voice mail.  It was from a lady named Stephanie who I had made plans to see “Boy From Oz” with on Thursday.  She was just checking in with me which was fine with me.

I got back on the bus and went to Battery Park.  Walked around a little and got back on another bus to take me back up town.  I wanted to go see a play that night and needed to make it back in time to go to the Ticket Booth in Times Square.  I could have gotten off a couple of other places or gone over to see the Statue of Liberty but opted not to since they said you couldn’t go into the Statue.  I’ve seen to many pictures of the outside to worry about going just to look up at it.

I made it back in time to get my ticket for “Wonderful Town”.  I chose that play because I sorta kinda “know” Raymond Mcleod.  Not really but in passing.   I posted on his board a few times.

I’ll stop now and pick this up later.

Something is going on with my computer. Some images and words are showing up FAR larger than they usually do, and others are appearing normally. For example, I'm looking at the links to the HHW Community Forum/Haines His Way/Daily Discussions, etc., and they are at about a 20 pt. font size right now, while all of your posts are at their normal sizes. Playbill.com isn't doing that... I don't know what the problem is. Oh, well...

Nothing going on here today. I slept in really late and my abs hurt a little. That's a good thing. I'll probably hit the gym again tonight at around 1:00...that seemed like a good time last night to be by myself. It still hasn't registered with me that I don't have to go to work tomorrow. How loverly!

Thanks, Jennifer.  It was all the walking.  I didn't go near the subways and except for the one bus ride, I walked everywhere.

One of the reasons I fought for the tub.  Some nights when I'd get back to the hotel, I had to soak for at least a half hour or I wouldn't have been able to move the rest of the night.

I must say  you all would have been most proud of me.  I got up at 6:30 AM every day, went out and about until about 3:00 PM, came back to the hotel, took my soak, then my shower and slept for about a half hour before getting back up, dressing and going out to dinner then a show.

I didn't get in until about 10:30/11:00 each night.  By Friday I was burning inside with tiredness.

When did Hollywood forget how to make a disaster movie?

Oh, sure, the movie was an FX bonanza, but when I see a disaster movie, I wanna see lotsa A-list and B-list actors and actresses get death scenes, darn it!

The Posiedon Adventure killed all but five or six people.  Now, that's a disaster movie!  The Towering Inferno, Earthquake!, The Swarm....say what you will, but I miss Irwin Allen!

Why are DVD from the Criterion Collection so expensive? There are so many I would love to have but paying Almost $40 is a bit steep

Try other sources, such as Ebay. . . .I paid under $20 for the each of the Hitchcock's there.
Hey! I remember when a Criterion Laserdisc Collection prices were outrageously high. . .$124.95 for THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, which btw, is the only way of seeing an uncensored cut of the film - - the dvd has been edited.
I was wondering if DR MattH's pool party was going to be similar to the one in THE LAST PICTURE SHOW. . . .

The show closed before I got to London last time - and I had bought tickets! Ended up seeing The Witches Of Eastwick. Friends saw WDTW in London and loved it - and they are English.
Usual criticism is that the story is at odds with itself - the Revivalist Southern take detracts from the simplicity of the story. I enjoy the Cast recording (despite the accents!) and the concept pop recording.

I forgot to mention the highlight of our day.  We spoke to our son in Romania, after multiple attempts to connect.  Once we connected the echo (and not our sweet girl) was so bad we had to call back.  Fifteen minutes later we finally got through.  At some point we couldn't hear him any more, though he could hear us, so we hung up and repeated the process of calling.  A bit later we were disconnected again when an operator came on and said our party had hung up.  Of course he had not done so.  All in all it was a nice conversation, but difficult to hear.  We can't wait to have a conversation in person with him.  We have so many questions for him and want to know more about his life there but we miss half of what he says on the phone.

I just ran out to get some movies. With all this talk of disaster movies, I rented THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and THE TOWERING INFERNO, which I've never seen. (I have seen THE P.A.) I also picked up Penn & Teller's BULLSH*T, which I've also never seen. BK--which episodes did you work on?

I'm still having large point-size issues...:-\

I'm signing off for the night and turning off the computer.  We are going to watch GOOD DOG about aliens that look like dogs.  We expect it to be bad but there is a Bernese Mountain Dog (like Echo) in it. :)

While the MSRP of Criterions are forty for some double discs, they are always available for at least twenty percent off.

My favorite Peter Sellers... DOCTOR STRANGELOVE
(I initially wrote it "DR" rather than "Doctor," but didn't want to confuse some thinking we had a Dear Reader Strangelove)

I mustn’t forget THE MOUSE THAT ROARED.
That was the first play I was ever in.  Played Professor Kokintz, inventor of the Q-bomb, my freshman year in high school.

Look at the outtakes - there were a couple of times I almost lost it.  Penn and Teller LOVED Dr. Learly.

Tonight I shall be watching Whistle Down the Wind starring Miss Hayley Mills, one of the finest child actresses ever.

One of my absolute favorite movies! It isn't on DVD is it???

Wow, took a nap and slept for about 3 hours! Yikes! Now the day is gone and it is dark out! LOL!

Gonna fix some dinner a pop in another movie I think.

I'm watching the Memorial Day Concert on PBS that had Brian Stokes Mitchell and Marin Mazzie at the beginning of the show.  It's quite good and emotional.  Has anyone else been watching this?

Back from a lovely day with good friends and fantastic food: baby back ribs cooked probably the best I have ever had them. How good? I ate two racks of them.

The sun, after playing peek-a-boo with rain clouds this morning, decided to stay out and give us a glorious day in the low 80s, and this evening, the stars were out, and we sat outside just talking about how wonderful life is and how lucky we are to have it.

Memorable evening.

Late night posting here, but I didn't want to be among the e&t this weekend.  Spent most of the day at my sister's house trying to rid her computer of viruses.  Among the many I came across was one with a prefix of "BKDR".  It took a moment to realize that what it really stood for was "backdoor".

Hmmmmmmmm.....which television character you watched when you were small had the occupation you most wanted to have when you grew up?

When I was little I wanted to be a secret agent along the lines of either Napoleon Solo or John Steed.  I still think I could be one--among my many talents is an amazing ability to walk with absolute silence, even on such surfaces as gravel or leaves.  Which would come in very handy for a super spy, don't ya think?

I was busy reading our very own Michale Barnum's interview with Keith Andes in the latest issue of "Classic Images."

And I went to pick up my paycheck and go by the bank.
I know this is all so exciting that you can't stand it.

Actually, all fun aside, Michael's article is very good.

I don't have to work tomorrow.  Or to be more precise, i don't have to in to work tomorrow.  Which means I'll most likely be working twice as hard and longer hours working on stuff at home.
