Well, you've read the notes, the notes were an adventure, albeit not exactly new, and now it is time for you to post until the adventurous cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GUMPTION!
-
Early posting of the new day. So, good night and good morning.
-
TOD: I have been for about three days without food, thinking it would work as a diet. That was more than 20 years ago. it didn't.
Now that I have diabetes, going without food for any extended time period is not healthy for me.

Here are some posts from yesterday, before the day got cut-off:

Hmmm, my Michele Bachmann crazy-eyes sort-of-parody (but with my own song about eyes) is not setting the view count afire, but a pro-Obama site did pick it up, which is nice that anyone at all even found it.
http://obama-2012-campaign-report.info/obama/i-look-into-those-eyes-michele-bachmann-crazy-eyes-controversy-parody/
seems to be an ad on that page, but that ad has nothing to do with me :)
That's pretty funny, Fred, but then I listened to the song without watching the video and it's quite a lovely song. Did you write it for some other project?
Thanks so much, George!
It's an edited version of an engagement/wedding song I wrote for a show. If anyone's interested in the serious full-length version,

Very nice, Fred. :)

Today's Topic of the Day: I don't think that I've ever gone on an extended period of time without food...at least, not that I can remember.

TOD : Same as George. Unless I was very sick and couldn't keep food down, I've had food. Maybe I've gone a day or something, but not real extended period
-
Oh man, a poor guy just bought a car and almost immediately drove it into a sink hole and the car sunk..they pulled it out, but Oh man....
-
I have to pick a client up for a probation meeting at 7:30 AM. What an ungodly hour. It's so early he couldn't find another ride and since I have to be at the meeting, well, I figured I may as well give him a ride.
-
I have to stay up until midnight (Austin time) tonight.
At 11:30, I'm doing Gregg Hunter's radio show, "The World of Entertainment". It will probably be a half-hour interview to promote the new book.
I enjoy doing these talks with Gregg, but I'm usually in bed and asleep by 11.
If you're on the West Coast, I'll be on at 9:30...if I'm still awake.
:)
-
TOD:
The longest I ever went without food?
Probably when I was in the hospital, after I had my gall bladder removed.
I don't think I ate anything for 2-3 days.
-
Night, all.
Have fun on the radio, DR Druxy.
-
Thanks again, George!
-
Good Evening!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about go to bed. But before I do...
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I will fast for 24 hours every couple of months when I feel I need to reset my system. Sometimes I'll go for 48 hours. It really is a case/game of mind over matter, and I gain a nice sense of satisfaction when I complete it. It's nice to know that I DO have some will power.
I've also done a 10-day juice fast. Again, it was more of a mental game than anything else. However, I did do some mental preparation before I started the fast. I do not fast "cold turkey".
-
I remember your juice fast, Jose
-
I would fast, but I like food too much
-
Time to medicate the cat and go to bed....night all
-
And...
Goodnight.
-
Good morning, all! I have checked in, caught up, and now I am off to breakfast.
DR Jose, Dublin uses euros. The American dollar sucks. The exchange rate is pathetic.
Maybe Michelle Bachmann and her straght husband can remedy the situation when theiy're First Ladies.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
We are back from a relaxing and wonderful weekend in Poughkeepsie, where we had no internet or television.
It rained almost nonstop yesterday including on the train ride back to NYC. It's supposed to rain today as well. It's cool and grey outside at 6:02am.
-
Yes, as Larry said, the Irish use the Euro. They changed from the pound (English) or punt Éireannach (Irish) in 2002.
-
I'll be back to the office today.
It's been a busy set of weekends.
Two weekends ago I was in Michigan. This past weekend we were in Poughkeepsie and this weekend we will most likely spend on Long Island.
Bye for now.
-
I'm off to explore Dublin! I thought I'd try my walk down to the National; Concert Hall, where we will record, stopping along the way at shops for postcards and sundries.
I'm meeting around 3pm an actor friend of my Dublin flight aisle-mate David. His name is Karl Harpur and his brother knows our production company from singing in RIVERDANCE. Tonight at 8:30, I'll meet Joe and Jonathan, our Dublin production team, and visit with them.
DR Jose, I liked much of PILLARS OF THE EARTH better than the mini-series. The novel's ending with the canonization of Thomas Beckett was a wonderful conclusion and a good lead in to THE CANTERBURY TALES. It's quite a good novel.
I've now begun an exploration into Zola's Rougon-Macquart novels; I'd read NANA, but I'm starting with L'ASSOMOIR, and I brought NANA to reread if I finish the other. I just added to my Amazon wish list the novels in the series LE BETE HUMAINE, GERMINAL, LE DEBACLE, and one about a Paris department store. The fight to the finish in a slum washroom was a fantastic opening in L'ASSOMOIR.
I'm off to terrorize Dublin.
-
Sounds like you're having fun, Elmore. Hope all goes well with the rest of the trip.
-
Ben, I envy your weekends off. The escapes sound wonderful, especially the no Internet part. I think I would suffer severe withdrawals.
-
Page two!
-
I'm up after almost eight hours of sleep with mighty peculiar dreams - not bad, but peculiar.
-
I have made my way to the National Concert Hall, a large and very beautiful building where we will record next week. It's about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The walk takes me past St Stephen's Green, a large and really beautiful park.
On my way back, I purchased postcards and I can fill them out in the next couple of days and the hotel will post them.
I don't know if I have enough time to walk to the National Gallery now, but I would like to see it. I'd love to see Trinity College as well, but I understand the lines to see the few pages from the BOOK OF KELLS on exhibit are enormous. Hmmm . . .
-
BK, break a leg today! I hope that everything goes well for you.
-
Yes, the lines to see the Book of Kells can be daunting but there is so much to see in Dublin that if you don't get to see the BOK you will have other sights to remember.
There is a great statue of Oscar Wilde on the northeast corner of St. Stephen's Green.
There is also a statue (fairly current) of Molly Malone on Grafton Street.
-
Good vibes and voayges for all-- wherever your voyage may take you today. My voyage will take me a few blocks around the neighborhood with Sugar, and then I shall voyage to work.
-
I shall now be on my way to shoot all the livelong day.
-
Shooting vibes for MR BK & Co. Thanks for the CMIYC report.
Tourist vibes for DR ELMORE.

And the word of the day is: GUMPTION!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I BELIEVE IN YOU
-
Waiting for a check in the mail.
-
Lovely photos from DR GINNY yesterday.
And I checked out DR JOSE's photos from his brother's wedding.....very nice.
Great shirt & tie! I liked the painting on the window panes - the board arrows for directions.....the wedding colors.....everything looked so nice!!! But, yes DR JOSE, you are correct....SOMEONE doesn't know how to cut a cake.
-
Monday morning greetings! Today I'm expecting a phone call when the rehearsal dinner invitations are ready at the printer. This evening I'm going to an AAUW prospective member gathering to try to lure some ladies into our Thursday evening book group.
-
DR Elmore - I'm enjoying your updates from Dublin! You may remember that I bought Zola's The Ladies' Paradise (the one about the department store) at the Barnes & Noble near your home in NYC - let's read it together!
-
Thank you, DR JRand, and congratulations on a successful first weekend of CAMELOT!
-
TOD: Probably 24 hours...usually just fasting for a day.
BK, I know what you mean about the "well-oiled machine" and how that slickness seems to bring about a sameness to everything. I feel that way about movies these days. I can see trailers for the big summer blockbusters and whether the films are period, modern, or futuristic, they all look the same, ahve the same pat beats and set pieces. Paint-by-the-numbers.
-
TOD - the longest stretch I can remember going without food was about 30 hours. We'd had a nice dinner on a Friday evening and I woke up about 2am pretty sure I was in the early stages of childbirth. No food until a couple of hours after DS Rob was born at 9pm Saturday evening. An unintentional fast with a great reward at the end!
-
TOD:
Probably a day when there was a lot of work.
Thanks DR GINNY - I look forward to a successful second week! The audience members are very complimentary.
-
Broken legs to BK and to Larry
And continued success to Jrand!!!!
-
TOD:
Probably a day when there was a lot of work.
I think the last time I went a whole day without any food was probably a similar situation - work was so involving that i just didn't make time.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm coughing. I started coughing last night, and just thought it might be from some acid indigestion/reflux after indulging at the wedding reception, but... Now I think it might be allergies or the beginning of a cold since my ears are feeling a little "fuzzy" right now too. Anyhooo... I'm feeling fine otherwise.
-
Thanks DR FJL.....today I am working on learning my dozen lines for DON'T DRINK THE WATER.
-
And I checked out DR JOSE's photos from his brother's wedding.....very nice.
Great shirt & tie! I liked the painting on the window panes - the board arrows for directions.....the wedding colors.....everything looked so nice!!! But, yes DR JOSE, you are correct....SOMEONE doesn't know how to cut a cake.
Thank You, DR JRand.
-After Kristy and Jay cut the first piece of cake, they left the table and then one of the cater-waiters was left in charge to slice it up for the guests. He literally stabbed the top tier of the cake in the center and then drew it the side. No tall glass filled with hot water. No kitchen towel to wipe the knife off between slices. And then he kept on hacking away...
It still tasted good.
-
And, yes, that was when I knew (again) that I watched way too many episodes of "Martha Stewart Living". ::)
-
~~~~~SMOOTH SHOOT VIBES FOR BK AND COMPANY~~~~~
Besides the wedding, it's also been great spending time with my nieces and nephew. I've been particularly impressed watching John Michael take care of his little sister, Emily. He really does watch out for her even when he seems to be only paying attention to his video games or iPad touch. And Emily has also been quite happy and hug-gy this trip.
-
DR elmore - Continue to have a wonderful time in Dubin! Did you bring a camera?
-
Here's the link to the trailer for my story BIG AL & DESPERATE DAN.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ10Zyk1Dv0
It was adapted from my original screenplay, which served as the basis for DILLINGER AND CAPONE starring Martin Sheen and F. Murray Abraham.
>:(
I was very unhappy with that movie, so this short story is my version.
The moral: If you sell a screenplay, always retain the publishing rights.
;)
-
I hope today's forecasted rain in NYC doesn't put a damper - literally or figuratively - on bk's web series shoot or demeanor. At least it finally supposed to clear up and dry out over the next 48 hours.
-
DR elmore - Continue to have a wonderful time in Dubin! Did you bring a camera?
No, I am, or have, no camera. I did send a few postal cards out.
I just spent an hour in an Irish pub having a pint of Guinness with actor Karl Harpur who's planning a trip to LA with his fiancee. His cousin Colin Egglesfield, whom I saw last week on RIZZOLI AND ISLES, is doing well in LA and Karl wants to try out the LA scene soon. I think he will play on the recording one of our two sleazeball turncoats.
-
No camera??!!??
-
Page 3 Larry-has-no-camera dance
-
And...
I guess I should get ready for whatever we're going to do today - which, right now, is still TBA. My brother, Don, was talking about heading up to LA for the day, but he's still sleeping. And my brother, Mike, wanted to take his kids to the San Diego Zoo today, but he's also still sleeping - as are two of his kids.
I may just head down to The Original Pancake House or Jalapeño's or Chicken Pie Diner or... ;)
*I'm taking the red-eye back to BWI tonight. And, of course, I have understudy rehearsal at Noon, so... It's gonna be a long Monday-into-Tuesday.
Nice trailer DR DRUXY.....nice choice of photos and music!
-
I'd love to see Trinity College as well, but I understand the lines to see the few pages from the BOOK OF KELLS on exhibit are enormous. Hmmm . . .
I guess we were lucky going just before Christmas as there was barely a line. Dublin was beautiful all decorated. It was cold but clear and we walked everywhere. I was thrilled to find a Thornton's candy store in the walking area. Everyday I went in for fresh Mint Special Toffee. It was also the trip I discovered Humbugs. We also went to a fancy Indian restaurant that was rated the top restaurant in the area. I was handed a red rose as we walked in making the evening romantic. The food was incredible. We never went to an Irish Pub to eat or drink which was kind of funny. They just seemed so loud with limited vegetarian selections & I hate beer.
-
DR ELMORE can't you take photos with your phone.....if there is something you really want to capture?
-
There is also a statue (fairly current) of Molly Malone on Grafton Street.
I loved walking past the statue everyday. My father often played the piano & sang the song. I took a photo for him & got a postcard with a photo of the statue & the lyrics on it.
-
I shall now be on my way to shoot all the livelong day.
Wishes you are very happy at the end of the livelong day!!
-
But, yes DR JOSE, you are correct....SOMEONE doesn't know how to cut a cake.
;D I've never seen a wedding cake look like that. Of course how it tasted was more important & it was beautiful before it was cut.
-
I have been thinking......and I think that Alan J. Lerner and Frederick Loewe would have revisited CAMELOT and made some improvements.....so I am going to add them to my production for the second week.
I will have Lancelot play the accordion during "C'est Moi" adding to his character and showing him to be a master of ALL things, not just knight things.
I have added a monolog for Guenevere talking about her childhood and father issues so that we understand why she falls in love with Arthur.
Because Arthur as a character is the most exposed in the play - I will have him do the second act naked.
I have also added a scene at the beginning of Act Two in which Queen Morgause, King Lot, and King Arthur are appearing on a medieval version of The Maury Show to use a DNA test to establish the paternity of Mordred.....during which I will play "You're Having My Baby" on an accordion offstage.
-
I am heading off to the Emergency Room. I don't know if they are going to keep me or not.
DR Jose, nice wedding stories. I can't believe the waiters butchered the wedding cake. I would not have been a happy camper.
-
Is that common in all broadway theatres now to allow food and drinks at the seats? Hate that idea.
-
Also, re: what people wear the theatre. I think it's nice when people dress up. Although i know a lot of people don't. But i don't get people going looking like slobs.
-
And...
I'm still waiting to do something with my family...
-
Is that common in all broadway theatres now to allow food and drinks at the seats? Hate that idea.
It used to be. And I wish the practice would stop.
If I'm paying anywhere from $40-150 a ticket, the last things I want to deal with are noisy candy wrappers, spilled drinks, rattling ice in cups and fellow audience members who think they're sitting in their living room watching a show on TV.
More importantly, it's about respecting the performers and artists on stage. Would you want someone sipping on a Coke and digging into a super-size bag of m&m's while you were performing?
I'm all for making the audience feel more comfortable, but there's a big difference between accommodating and coddling.
-
Is that common in all broadway theatres now to allow food and drinks at the seats? Hate that idea.
And on a practical side, the extra clean-up costs resulting from letting people eat at their seats can only be passed on to the consumer via higher ticket prices and "facility fees".
Never mind. ::)
In their defense(?), they did slice off two very nice pieces for the bride and groom to enjoy later in the evening.
Well I have returned.
Unfortunately my vacation was not what it I hoped it be.
Toronto was fine, but in Montreal I was sick the whole time. I only went out to visit my father in rehab and for three meals. Also had no internet service in MTL as my folks were moving.
I've been suffering from stomach problems the last few months, but the last few weeks have been the worst. I've been basically eating soda crackers and gingerale. My appetite is pratically non existant and only eating one meal a day knowing I have to eat something
Later in the week I will be having a medical procedure to see what may be causing the problem. A previous test did not find anything. I am hoping that they will find an answer to my problems.
So please excuse me if I am absent for a while.
-
Michael, I'm so sorry. I hope your testing shows what's wrong and that it is easy to treat.
Enjoy. I found it largely wonderful. I've started the Mae West set that, I think, MBarnum mentioned a few weeks ago. And today at Costco, I found a box set with Irving Berlin's "On the Avenue" and Cole Porter's "Something to Sing About." Both have good songs, even if the movies aren't top drawer.
From Theatermania.com:
Jason Graae -- Perfect Hermany (Kritzerland)
Graae's sunny vocals beautifully match Jerry Herman's optimistic tunes on this upbeat recording of a one-man show he offered at the Colony Theatre in Burbank last May. The recording features some of the songwriter's most familiar songs, such as "Before the Parade Passes By" (from Hello, Dolly!) and "I Am What I Am" (from La Cage), along with lesser known ones, including the sumptuously melodic "Marianne" (from the infrequently seen The Grand Tour). While Graae's patter might sometimes be a bit precious, it's little matter once he ably launches into the music which he so clearly adores.
Good luck at your meeting tomorrow, John G.!
Back from a wonderful day of shooting, then a Jew meal, then coconut cake (I only ate a third of a piece). The day could not have gone better - I kept the atmosphere light and fun as I always do, and the cast was just fantastic and so easy. We began with Nikka Graff Lanzarone, who did her bit quickly and effortlessly. The cameraman was great, as was our sound guy and everything just went so smoothly and quickly. I so wish I could tell you exactly what we're doing, but there are too many little prying thieving eyes out there - sorry, prying, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery eyes, and I want to get this on the web before anyone actually starts trying to do it - whether they will or not is anyone's guess, but having been bitten by this sort of thing in the past, I'm just keeping my mouth shut. When we're close to airing episode one then I'll spill the beans. At the end of Nikka's thing, Brad Oscar arrived and did his part of Nikka's thing (just the end). Then we did Brad's solo thing, then we did a big ensemble and Brad thing that was absolutely stellar and hilarious - Brad is just fantastic and Adam Cates' choreography was wonderful. I think it will cut together easily. Then we moved onto the second episode, right on time. The three bits in that episode involved Sandy Rosenberg and Barry Pearl, both wonderful, and their bit went very quickly. Then Beth Leavel got there and we did her solo bit, then her bit with Barry and Sandy. We wrapped almost an hour early and let me tell you, I shot a LOT of coverage.
Well...this may not be new news, but John Doyle (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/153548-John-Doyles-Rodgers-and-Hart-Musical-Ten-Cents-a-Dance-Premieres-at-Williamstown) is up to his old tricks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dZlAcMs6hN8).
Although, I think that this might actually work quite well. :)
Good Evening!
We went to the Birch Aquarium.
Then we went to the San Diego Maritime Museum.
Then we went to the U.S.S. Midway.
And now I need a nap. ;)
Didn't you already check out of your hotel? ;)
We're staying at my brother's old condo. He and Kristy just moved into their new house, but his lease goes through the end of August. So, we all stayed here.
How convenient and fun! :)
Back from a wonderful day of shooting, The day could not have gone better
Sounds like BK and DR Jose have both had very nice days - on opposite coasts.
Thanks, Ginny, FJL and Laura.
Right now, the plan is to debut in late October or early November. It really depends on the editor and how fast I can get the LA stuff done. I can start airing once three episodes (of six) are complete and finished.
I have to say Beth Leavel is unbelievably great - she just stepped in, did her stuff and was four-star hilarious. The only thing I had to say to her was action and cut. She has amazing comic instincts and when someone has those you just shut up and watch and let them do what they do - and, for me, there's nothing better that I like as a director.
The New York Times review of the new John Doyle Rodgers and Hart musical was a rave.
Beth Leavel is great. Makes me want to see the season even more. Glad the filming is going well.
Thanks, George. I never would have noticed that.
And on that note (F-natural), I'm going home.
Have a good rest of the evening, all!
Thinking about DR TCB as I say good night.
-
Was just watching some of the footage (it's all on my computer drive) and so much fun - there are a few focus issues occasionally but we have plenty of coverage to cut around them.
-
Night, all.
Thinking about DR TCB as I say good night.
Me, too.
ERs always take a long time. But I hope he comes home and checks in soon.
The kitties all seem to be feeling better. Feathers is very devoted to me. He follows me everywhere and is usually on me whenever I sit down (at the moment he is on my shoulder).
