I have survived Day One of recording, and - as I feared - we did not make the schedule; we did not finish the Act One Finale, which is in frasgments since we had to finish up all the music with Dean, whom we only had for one day, Sir Reggie's number, and one of the melodramas. So, we've got those today as well as all of the remainder of chorus music and, hopefully, some of the two leads' work. If we can stay close to schedule, that will give us tomorrow to dfo the comedy duet and all the orchestra pieces.

Today at 1pm our conductor David Brophy has a lunch concert so I will attend that. A soprano is singing 'Glitter and Be Gay' and I want to check her out.

Please keep them vibes rolling this direction!

BK, I'm sorry you've been having Walmart and police go-rounds over your credit cared problems; I guess they'd prefer dfonuts to rounding up internet thieves and that's sad.

DR Ginny, tell Rob the keys go into his pocket as soon as he finishes with them; I learned this to my dismay after too many trips to the apartment of the neighbor above me to use his fire escape to get back into mine when I'd locked myself out.

DR cillaliz, I must have missed that you were feeling poorly. I hope you are better.

DR Lauira, congrats on the shiny teeth! I hope you are not blinding people with your radiant smile.

Post by: elmore3003 on August 23, 2011, 06:53:38 AM: I decided after the concert, wehich lasted less than an hour and wasa broadcast live by the RTE, to walk back to the hotel and have some lunch before walking back to the concert hall for tonight'sa recording. The concert was good, and maybe I like Davide sop much as a conductor because we have similar musical tastes: the concert began with three movements from a film score by Irish composer Sean O'Riada that were quite beautiful and moving, with great horn solos. Then our soprano came out and sang Micaela's Act Three aria from CARMEN, which was lovely, and the orchestra played deFalla's Ritual Fire Dance, which I'd heard manyt times on recording but never live. The winds and brass were quite wonderful, and this wasa followed by 'Glitter and Be Gay,' which was where the soprano, who got a greatr ovation from the audience, crashed and burned for me. On that aria, I want Barbara Cook, who's never been surpassed; I want the lyrics, crsp diction; if you don't hear what she's singing, you've missed the joke. Perhaps a director could helpo her on what to do during the number and get her to give a little more copnsonant values to her voice. She wasn't bad; she just wasn't very good here. Following that, the strings and harp left the stage and David finished the program with Kurt Weill's Eine Kleine Dreigroschenmusik, his THREEPENNY OPERA Suite for winds, brass, piano, percussion and guitar. I loved it, but it wasn't paricularly a cup of tea to all the audience. The pianist needed to be far more aggressive and prominent in his sections and he was the weak link. Still, I had a great time. I saw several of our EILEEN orchestra players in the band: Geraldine on harp, two of the percussion boys, our Dublin producer Joe on one of the basses.

All in all, a wonderful hour. I'm off again, so keep them vibes roilling this way!

Post by: bk on August 23, 2011, 11:30:50 AM: Had to go pick up some tapes. I had our new release decided upon until I saw the plethora of release announcements yesterday and today - horrifying. Since one of those announcements is by the same composer we were doing, I've pushed that release for later and we'll do something else, although that's going to cause a lot of pushing to get it done on time. Luckily, in terms of mastering, it's very simple - just the original LP presentation, no editing at all.

Apparently, the earthquake hit right before we arrived in Baltimore. We stalled there for a bit, and are now moving very slowly towards DC.

I'm OK. The train is OK. And none of my fellow passengers are freaking out.

I did miss the rehearsal I was supposed to play this afternoon, but my "overstudy" was able to cover it.

Sunday morning Bryan walked us over to the shop, stopping just down the block for a Stumptown coffee. He almost didn't stop for the coffee as the wait was close to 30 minutes. I left him inside waiting for coffee & Keith outside sitting at a table with Sherlock & continued down the street to Voodoo Doughnuts. After Bryan got his coffee I left my line which had at least another 30 minutes left to get inside the shop. I did stop & peek. The chocolate doughnut with chocolate frosting looked very good as did the apple fritter.

Monday morning I had the option to stop in the Eugene store on the way home or go to Grand Central Bakery http://www.grandcentralbakery.com/ for bread, bread pudding muffins & money bread muffins. I opted for the bakery. I resisted their wonderful cookies.

Actually, Jane, one of my theater friends called another friend and talked about doing a benefit for me in October or November. Too little, too late.

First I'm very happy & relieved your leg will stay. Will you also be able to return to work tomorrow & keep your appointment with the "miracle" doctor?

I will talk with him this weekend. He is a wonderful guy, but I just don't know how long he can hold out. I currently owe 250 from July's rent , plus 870 for August. I guess all I can do is ask.

It will have more music, it will have an entire cover version never released on CD, and we will do our best to make the original tapes from the soundtrack LP sound decent (poor album masters and nothing to be done about that other than to make them as good as they can be). But we'll have overture, entr'acte and playout music in superb sound and that's another ten minutes right there. I also have all the playback tapes used when they filmed the numbers and I believe there's several things not on the original album plus complete versions of songs (the album's are truncated). It will be a two CD set because of all the extras.

Five of us got together and were able to use the occasion to celebrate the 58th wedding anniversary of some friends I've known since I moved to San Antonio. Great couple and a wonderful occasion to mark.
