Good morning, all! Yesterday went really, really well. At one point after the orchestra break in the first session, one of the soloists' microphones began crackling and sputtering and we feared we would have another series of problems like the day before. Fortunately it was repaired quickly, and we finished off the chorus and three more soloists last night. Today we are down to our two leads Eamonn and Mary, the adorable Rachel Kelly, and all the orchestral music: Overture, dance in Act Three, Entr'Actes, Entrance Music, and orchestra selection.

I've been getting sadder as each artist finishes up and vanishes; we lost Dean Power on Monday, and yesterday we said goodbyes to Joe Corbett, Andrew Ashwin, Lynda Lee, and Philip O'Reilly, all first rate talents and wonderfrully charming and funny people. I had mentioned to the singers that one of Victor Herbert's most famous shows was NAUGHTY MARIETTA, and, after he said goodbye, Joe Corbett went to a market and brought back for me and Judy Sherman packs of Mariettas, a thin shortbread-like cookie with a taste similar toi animal crackers. This has been a great adventure, but we do have limited time today so please, everyone, keep sending good recording vibes.

I'm still chuckling over DR  Dan(theMan)'s earthquake photo and really happy about the news that our DR TCB will not be losing a leg.

I've got six hours to kill before today's sessions from 4-11:30; I'll be back later.

Well, the library had "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." Guess I saved buying that one. From the beginning, the music sounded faux Irish in that mournful, U2 way. It is certainly their music. But I almost expected the funeral, "We're Alive" number from "Juno" to come next. Only nothing with quite that much imagination followed. Just mournful.

My question for ASK BK DAY......what is your favorite Woody Allen movie quip?

I have many, but I think one of my favorites is in What's New Pussycat? ...  wherein he says that he is working at the Follies Bergere helping the girls change clothes for twenty francs a week.  When someone says that's not very much money.....he replies...."That's all I can afford to pay them."

Tonight we move on to Act Two of Don't Drink the Water - I am in the "party" scene with a couple of lines, so we shall see how that goes.

JRand, I played Killroy in this with Shelley Berman in dinner theatre years ago.  In fact, it was my dinner theatre debut.  I remember he and I were watching the director do a big bit of schtick with an actor.  Shelley gave me a dour glance and out of the corner of his mouth said, "I like my comedy...subtle."

Kilroy is a good part......all of them are funny DR CP....   I am on the stage and off pretty quickly as the Sultan....or at least I hope I can be.

For some reason this director wants a LOT of party guests and actual protesters in the audience with signs and yelling which is completely unnecessary.....when the scene starts, the party is ending, and the sounds of the protesters would be sufficient....instead we will have 10 or 12 extra people wandering around the green room every night with nothing to do......Oh, and no, the protesters cannot also be the party guests, thank you very much.

Mournful, dull and untheatrical.  Bono and the Edge managed to accomplish the unthinkable:  Frank Wildhorn is no longer the worst composer on B'way.

Wednesday morning greetings!  Richard and I were out quite late (for us) last night and I slept in this morning.

Our date last night was delightful - we went to Covington, KY's Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center (http://www.thecarnegie.com), a place we'd never visited before.  The building was originally a 1904 Carnegie library and has been repurposed beautifully.  Last night's event was Cincinnati World Cinema (http://www.cincyworldcinema.org)'s showing of THE PERFECT HOST, a thriller starring David Hyde Pierce.  There was a social hour beforehand, where we had a light supper and ran into some friends who live in Cincinnati.

Well, there actually was some serious damage from the quake:  the 30 foot Blessed Mother statue that stands atop the hospital (http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20110824_Blessed_Mother_statue_atop_hospital_cracks__shifts_in_quake.html) my mom stayed at developed a crack and shifted due to the tremor and will need to be repaired.  While I'm not exactly crazy about the hospital presently, this is a shame because that statue has been a local landmark and icon as far back as I can remember.

David Holzman's Diary

Studied it in films school many moons ago. I figured that is wasn't a real documentary because I question how did he do the last scene if his camera was stolen?

An interesting side fact to David Holzman's diary:

The scene where he stops and talks to the woman in the car. was impromptu and unscipted. She happened along and incorporated her into the film

I delivered paperwork to the SAG office.  Then I rushed and did the four-mile jog, then had my lunch meeting, went to storage and picked up a chart, and then picked up a few packages including my new wallet which protects JERKS from scanning credit cards or other things.

Where did you find the new wallet, BK?

The age thing has always baffled me.  If two people come together, love each other, and are happy, I don't care what it is if the younger person is legal - and this is coming from someone who has occasionally had relationships with MUCH younger folks.

Time for me to go find Callie and to go to bed.  I'm gonig to read. I'm really enjoying The Help. It's different from the movie.  I think I'm glad I saw the movie first.

Charles Chaplin married eighteen-year-old Oona O'Neill when he was fifty-seven.  They had a long and wonderful and loving marriage.  Anyone who criticizes that is a dolt.

I don't have anything against the age difference in general. I think it depends on the two individuals. I was initally worried about Sam, but am not any more

Good Evening!

And... I believe Oklahoma! is becoming the Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark of the DC theatre scene. If I have play one more not-previously-scheduled put-in/understudy rehearsal...

*No one has been seriously injured, thankfully, but all the extra day rehearsals have really gotten in the way of my explorations of the current DC culinary scene. ;)

DN Sam and DBF Don.  Doesn't she look wonderful?

Am I the only one who doesn't think he looks "older?"

I saw lightening through the crack in the curtains! I am sure I did. Accuweather even shows it. Then it just dissipated. The end.

A watched lightning never thunders.  Or something like that.

Listening to our new release - I absolutely made the right choice to go with this instead of the other - it's gorgeous and will please our soundtrack fans, here and elsewhere.

I have also seen it defined as "Manufactured on Demand".   It all means the same thing....order it, and it will be burned for you.

She went to school and was so miserable that she was getting physically ill.  I told her that there was no reason for her to be miserable, especially if she could finish her degree online.  I think she was just waiting to hear that.  She had it all planned out. Got up the next morning, packed up the blazer and hit the road.  I've NEVER seen her so happy.

Good for you  encouraging her  to follow her heart

Actually that's just what I told her to do.  I have no idea if this relationship will work out, but they both really seem to care about each other, so who knows, it could be the real thing

My cousin married a man the same age as her dad - they have been married over 30 years now

My friend's daughter is 24 years old and her fairly new boyfriend is about 54 years old...they've only been dating for a few months, but so far it's working for them.
