Well, you've read the notes, the notes were naked and reborn, and now it is time for you to post until the naked and reborn cows come home.

And the word of the day is: PRECATORY!
-
And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to former dear reader Hisaka.

Morning all.
That is all.
-
Today for sure I go back to the office.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm on a bus. The M15 Select to be exact.
-
And now I'm in Chinatown waiting for my second bus of the day.
-
As for the Topic(s) of the Day...
I'll get back to you after my bus ride down to DC, rehearsal and nap. And probably some coffee too. Yes, I predict today will be a coffee day.

And since we're about to board...
Laters...

1st movie: 5 years old. Mary Poppins. (2nd, 3rd & 4th film: The Sound of Music)
1st live show: About the same age: Johnny Jellybean (Ted Zeigler) A kiddie tv show host live
Walk, talk, date, first crush, stopped wearing "huggies": don't remember
-
Tuesday morning greetings! My DN/goddaughter Lauren and I have a date to have our nails done this morning, then I have some last minute shopping to do. Looks like another beautiful - cool and sunny - day here in SW Ohio.
-
BK - great to hear that your Nudie restoration is turning out so well - Congratulations!
-
Good morning, all.

TOD: First movie: "Lady in the Tramp" when I was about six weeks old or so I'm told.
I started reading basic Dr. Seuss when I was 4. I think "Hop on Pop" was the first one read.
I wish I could remember what my first play was, maybe a church production of "Goodbye, Charlie" or "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" (without the songs).
I was never told that I didn't walk and talk at a normal age, whatever that is. So, I have nothing to add to that one.
First solid food: beets. And I still love them.
-
Vibes to those still affected by Irene.
-
Such good news about TFNM Blue Rae.
And since the Easter Eggs are now part of the Extra Features, I will now say that I HATE EASTER EGGS on DVD's.....why do they make us LOOK for things? Just put things where we can find them.....why go to the trouble to MAKE something and then have it unseen by a LOT of people who buy the damn thing?
But then I am just an armchair expert and consumer.
-
TOD:
I shall have to think.
-
For some reason the Astaire & Rogers Collections - DVD, Volume one and volume two are on sale at Amazon for $14.09 and $15.99.....they were released at $60 each.....so I finally bought them so I would have ALL of those wonderful movies....on DVD not on Blue Rae.....but I own them!
-
Good morning, all! I have been awake for two hours but most of the time was spent on drafting a long email about the state of Toyland. Shortly, I'll take a trip down there to check on things and follow that up with a trip to the NYPL at Lincoln Center.
I think that's my day.
-
...And this bus is heading to DC by way of Philly... I wonder if I can make a quick run into the Chinese place by the bus station for some steamed pork buns? ::)
-
So is NYC back to normal now?
-
Most of Manhattan is back to normal but outlying areas, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island, areas north of Manhattan, Staten Island and other parts of Queens and Brooklyn need more work to get up and running.
Our office is open and most people are in but some of the New Jersey and Westchester/Connecticut people still can't make it in.
-
Wedding funny for today: Mary Linda's mother shopped in Michigan and Mary Linda's sister shopped in Colorado for dresses to wear to the rehearsal and dinner. A thousand miles apart and they bought the same dress!
-
TOD: I have no memory when I did any of those things BK asked about. My first memory of going to see a movie in a theatre was SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARVES.
-
Actually, come to think of it, I can also remember in the fourth grade going, as a class, to downtown Cincinnati to see a theatrical production of BEAUTY & THE BEAST (at the Emery Theatre?). This was, of course, long before Disney's version and this particular stage version owed a lot to Cocteau's film. I remember it being very haunting.
-
We always went to the movies, because we were broke much of the time and it was cheap, and movies, were, after all, your best entertainment.
First play: Age 6 or 7: Puss and Boots at Phoenix Children's Theatre as part of a birthday party for a classmate.

TOD:
I have no idea when I first did most of those things.
The first play I ever saw was HARVEY w/Joe E. Brown. I was 5 and still remember moments from it.
I can't tell you what was the first movie I saw.
My mother used to tell me that there was a film in which, in the opening scene, Margaret O'Brien threw a rock and killed a squirrel....and I went running up the theater aisle crying.
Years later, I came across that movie (OUR VINES HAVE TENDER GRAPES). Since it was released in 1945, I must've been 4 when I saw it.
Whenever I run into Margaret O'Brien at an autograph show, I tell her that she scarred me for life.
-
That's funny, Ginny. I'm glad they discovered this before the wedding.
-
I remember seeing "Cinderella" and "Shane." Well, we had to sit through "Shane" to see Cinderella. I remember being bored. Very bored.
-
Stars? STARS? STARS?!!!
Not on THAT list.
-
Stars? STARS? STARS?!!!
Not on THAT list.
Not in the general sense, but some decent "celebrities, lawse yes.
Go Ricki Lake.
Go David Arquette!
-
It will be "fun" to see the lady with whom they pair Chaz Bono!
-
BK: As to the visual qualities of "The First Nudie Musical" on Blu-ray, I'm betting that there's too much color.
Just take some out....and then it will be perfect.
;D
(Riffing on "Amadeus", dontchaknow).
-
TOD - I think my first movie memory has to be a re-release of "Fantasia" in the 70's... both me and my mom fell asleep,
-
TOD: I guess I'll have to ask my mom which motor skill came first and at what age.
I do have a memory of being told to shut up once too often. I had curiousity and was always asking questions. I guess my dad got fed up. I wasn't idly curious. I probably wanted to know where we were going and what we would be doing when we got there.
I was told to shut up and I'd find out when it happened.
This order was made with such rage (it made me feel worthless) at the time, that I made a conscious decision at that point (I was 8 or 9) to hold all my thoughts to myself. And I've stuck to it my whole life. My folks began wondering, when I was 17 and 18, why I wasn't as forthcoming about my hopes and dreams and desires like other parents said their kids were (at the same age). I couldn't very well become the confidant they suddenly wanted.
I think the lesson is clear: If you want your child to grow up to be not only a son or daughter but a friend you must be tolerant of them through all the formative years or you'll lose that part of them.
Just thought I'd share that with y'all, since the TOD stirred up the memory for me.
First movie: There's not just one. I have strong memories of three films seen in 1956-57. The first of these may have been "War and Peace" (based on having the earliest release date). The other two were "The Ten Commandments" and "Anastasia".
I remember parts of these films vividly, especially "War and Peace". All three films were released in the latter part of 1956..."War and Peace" in August, "The Ten Commandments" in October and "Anastasia" in December.
I know there were other films, including serials, that I saw on Saturday afternoons at the Johnston SC movie theater...and in 1955 and 1956. But I just can't recall any of them. I remember seeing a "Coming Soon" poster for "The Opposite Sex" that I wanted to go see, but we moved before it opened (this was in August 1957). After that, movies weren't as frequent a treat. We had moved from a small town to a city. Both my parents worked...and worked long hours. We would, on occasion, go to drive-ins, and it was there that I saw such things as "The Bridge on the River Kwai" and "Sayonara". I know there were others..."A Bell for Adano" in re-release, for instance. As for trips to theaters, my mom took me to see "Old Yeller" one night in 1959. HUGE treat! And I was also allowed to see "Sleeping Beauty" when it opened in Greenville SC's Fox Theater (Because I was only 10, I was to meet up with an older boy who was the son of one of my mom's co-workers. He was meant to be a chaperone, of sorts. He said he looked for me when he arrived after the film started. I was sitting in the theater. He never went there, and he left. My mom was okay about it, but I didn't go to movies alone until I was 14). That's where I saw all the Disney films back in the 1960s.
Once I was old enough to go to movies alone, the sky was the limit.

That's a very sad story, Ron.
-
I, on the other hand, am up after a good night's sleep - not quite long enough, but eight hours anyway.
-
I'll do the jog in about forty minutes.
-
That's a very sad story, Ron.
Hmmm....didn't mean it to be sad. It's part of who I am now. I can express myself in print in ways that I can't in person, but that's probably true of a lot of people.
In retrospect, it is kind of sad. My dad had his demons...many emotional ones from WWII and then the "demon rum" kind that plagued him the rest of his life. It's not easy being the only child of an alcoholic. You have no one to confide in or commiserate with who is your own age. It wasn't something you talked about or told friends (who didn't know first-hand). There was a stigma attached to it that applied to children of alcoholics. I was shocked once in high school when I learned a much-loved classmate (and a very popular student) had an alcoholic mother. I wanted to share with her my own stories, but she had all she could cope with at that time so I kept it to myself.
I'm much more objective about all of it now...at this remove from those years. I could never have done anything about it then. Discussing it now is very helpful.

Forget your troubles, come on, get happy!
:) :D ;D

I am back from all my errands and adventures today. I wanted to meet my London friend Dominic McHugh at the Lincoln Center NYPL to introduce him to my favorite music librarian Bob, but Dominic and his partner who've been stranded in NYC since the storm, needed to hit Virgin airlies about a travel date and weren't sure they'd be able to meet me. At 2:30 I decided to leave and at 3:00 I got a Facebook message from him saying he was at the library! I feel terrible I missed him.

And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to former dear reader Hisaka.

Thank you for sharing your memories. I understand about "just who you are" vs "sad" as I'm feel the same way regarding my childhood memories with my alcoholic mother. I think the worse part was having to keep my secret which isolated me from my peers.

DR Jane: We are peas in a pod!
:D
-
Yup. :) I did have siblings though, which at time made life easier & other times more difficult. My sister used to push my mother's buttons until they both exploded. My father worked long hours so it was just us with my mother, until my older siblings left home giving me a bit of an idea what it was like for you as a single child.
-
I have learned a few tips from my friend who was hit hard by Irene. She can't get any food as ATM, etc. machines don't work. When stocking up on supplies be sure to include cash. I think a friend will get her food today, which she only asked for because her daughter is hungry.

For all you LAW & ORDER fans, here's the latest example of Hollywood greed:
Universal Home Entertainment has announced that they are releasing a 20 season/104 disc DVD box set in November, LAW & ORDER, The Complete Series. On Amazon, the price is a little under $500.00.
This means that loyal fans of the series, who already own the previously released 9 seasons on DVD are going to have to purchase those 9 seasons all over again in order to get the 11 yet unreleased seasons.
Personally, I'm going to pass (unless Universal changes course and releases individual seasons) and continue to watch the show on cable TV.
In fact, I'm willing to bet that, within a year or two, you'll be able to buy this set for between $100-$200.
-
Of to another fun rehearsal.
-
Of to another fun rehearsal.
I had to read that twice...the first time, I thought you wrote, "...fun funeral." :o
;)
-
Did the four-mile jog, had a quick turkey sandwich and no fries or onion rings, picked up three packages (but not the one I'm really anxious to get) and shall now attend a rehearsal.
-
We are so close, but just haven't turned the corner.
-
Ta-da!
-
Back from a day longer than I'd intended. Lauren and I met at the nail salon - she got "the works" and I a simple manicure. We went to lunch and then went our separate ways. I went to Dayton Mall to pick up a few last minute rehearsal dinner items and looked at 5 stores for a dress for that occasion. Didn't find anything I liked as well as the one in my closet that I'd intended to wear. Richard and I have had bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches for supper.
-
So I guess we will have to call it the Blue Nudie Musical.
-
Tonight are callbacks for Parade. No, we don't have the African American people we need, but we'll get there. I'm kinda scared of the score, I guess I'll get over it. I do like the story, it really makes you think. Certainly isn't a hat and cane show.
-
So is NYC back to normal now?
Yes, Jose has already left.

RE: this list. There might not be huge celebrities. But I think most people know Nancy Grace, Ricki Lake and David Arquette.
The show likes to have reality stars, and sports figures. So for people who watch their sports/shows they are big names.
-
DR RonP, it is rumored that Lacey has Chaz Bono. I guess we'll see.
Kym supposedly is paired with David Arquette (I think that one is confirmed).
There are actually going to be a couple of new pro dancers. Not too happy about that ... especially since Dmitry isn't going to be on this season. I don't get why they are adding i think 3 new pros when they have some popular pros that have to keep missing seasons.
Supposedly Chelsie isn't going to be on this season either. But Derek is definitely back.
-
Page THREE? This will NOT do.
-
Back from the choreographer's house - really funny stuff and Jason Graae is hilarious, as always - and a very good-looking ensemble of gals and guys.
-
First singer will be here at four-thirty.
-
Jason played me a telephonic message he got from Mr. Jerry Herman, who was in tears and very emotional having just heard Jason's CD. And he even said he thought it was wonderfully produced.

I have heard of Chaz Bono. I have heard the names Ricki Lake and Nancy Grace. I couldn't pick any of them out of a lineup or tell you why any of them are famous. I know Chaz is famous because he has famous parents. Never heard of any of the rest of them. But then, I am not one to know from "stars."

I think it would be better if Chaz danced with Nancy Grace.

Wow! A tough lesson to learn for anyone, Ron, but especially a child. And as you said, once that lesson is learned, there is no reversing it.

I guess we need to get busy with these posts.

Yesterday, in order to be a good patient, I wore my AOL brace for six hours. I still can't walk when I am wearing it, but I will keep wearing the damn thing.
One difference I noticed this morning, when I tried to get out of bed my left leg gave out completely.

The weather here was terrific today. Well, at least to me it was. It was 67 degrees and a little overcast, but very pleasant.
-
Well, that's crappy, TCB.
Did you hear from when your test is scheduled?
-
It's 110 here. In the shade.

I saw Jason's comment about Jerry Herman's response last night on Facebook. That is really terrific.

Did you hear from when your test is scheduled?
Not yet. The nurse said it would take five to seven business days to get it scheduled.

My Facebook friend was encouraged to tell her story on FB, and out of desperation she has. She talks about how she got through the wrath of Irene.
Hi, my name is Donna Davids, I am a single mom of a Beautiful 13 year old daughter who I raise on my own, with no child support or such. I also have Multiple Sclerosis ( since 1992), which as time goes on gets to be more & more of a struggle. I am 50 years old. To help pay bills & keep a home & raise a teenager, I began a Dog Boarding buisness as this allows me to work with my health.
This week, Hurricane Irene came through our area & hit hard ( Ulster County)
As the storm was approaching, Jasmin & I put our winter storm panels on, put away any outside belongings, filled tons of jugs of water, & prepared how ever able for the storms approach.
Saturday night we brought my mattress out on the floor in the living room. As we waited to see how Irene would play out, We watched all the TV updates. As it approuched closer, I became more & more nervious as our home Is 1 floor & only 700 sq. Feet so not many options for hiding.
As the night proceeded my 2 Bernese Mt. Dogs & cats began showing odd behavior. It was then we began to fear. At one point my dog Bear ran to the bathroom in panic as he panted heavily. Towards Sunday the rains picked up, the winds became blowing strong ( stronger than any on going wind ever here) . With already saturated ground our driveway became a huge lake, trees swayed & bent. My daughter & I & the dogs layed huddled together as the power went out & the winds made the house feel as if we where to become a scene as in the wizard of OZ.
Holding each other tightly in the dark ( me trying to be strong for her, Yet venting my fear to those friends on Facebook from my cell) we feared our lives!
In the dark blowing strong winds & heavy rain, we all of a sudden where shook as the mattress on the floor shifted about a half inch & the house rocked from impact of a not so big not so small but tall & strong pine tree.
We now literally where shaking & crying. As we didn’t even know what had taken place outside nor could we look due to the extreme weather. As I looked out a window to the north the sky lit up purple, orange, green etc. I don’t know what being on a battlefield is like, but only imagine what we were experiencing was kinda simiular in a smaller version.
At one point I posted to FB friends to make sure my dogs got a good home, as at that moment I honestly did not think we were going to live. Trees where coming everywhere as if unleashed weapons.
Meanwhile with no power my basement sump pump was not able to keep its job going. So I knew the water was rushing in, only to create a downstairs similar to a ungrounded pool.
Thus swallowing my water heater, my furnace, my water softner system tanks, along with the well holding tank & things from childhood kept of my daughter’s.
All’s I could think was the house would collapse. The winds continued many hours later nonstop along with the heavy rains. As the sun rose we were in awe at how flooded, rivers newly created, puddles big enough to float in! & trees whipping around!
The as I looked out, a huge pine tree ( 3 grown men could hold hands tightly around) the ground coming up like a new growing hill, the tree was going as it was pushed by the winds. Talk about Fear!
Luckily it went towards the garage/barn. ( which is right next to the house!)
It was down, its life over, ours safe
Hours continued of rain, wind, no power.
Now I had not slept & after all was to frightened to & night later I still wake with nightmares of falling houses & trees.Yet my daughter then fell into deep sleep more I feel to block all out & also from the stress.
The dogs stayed tightly snuggled to her, as I watched for more danger or loss.
After day 2 of 5ft of water in my basement, things ruined completely, searching for use of a generator, no sleep, huge beyond huge trees in my yard on my barn on my house in the driveway
I lost track of time!
Late Monday 2 wonderful angels arrived with a generator to use!
Other angels came to see if we were alright. Others brought coffee, breakfast, dinner, fruit, water.
My basement would now have the sump pump doing its job of keeping water out.
Yet the damage is beyond anything I could even begin to fix.
& without flood insurance, it is all a loss… the well water holding tank, the water softener tank, the water heater, & the furnace. Plus now from being so wet we will have to deal with mold.
That’s Just the basement!!!!
The tree’s I have no clue how they will be removed! The barn, insurance might cover some..but it is done. The house structure has some damage, hopefully not condemable. As we’d no where to live. Verticale house Beems need replacing. The propane tank, which is out under a tree, can’t be replaced until new lines Are put in ( underground)
These are thing we know of as of now…More can turn up when they inspect it.
Somethings are covered by homeowners ins. However water damage related is totally not.
& only up to 500. For tree removal.
I am disabled, yet also do my Dog buisness to try & make ends meet. I have 0 savings. We live month to month, as I do it all on my own of raising a teen, paying bills, paying a mortgage.
However this makes me just want to walk away ..as the damage is beyond & I have no way to make it all ok.
I will say however…I feel so blessed that my daughter & I & our animals are alive! The greatest blessing!
All else is no comparison, yet showers, cooking, heat, huge trees gone are a reality of life/living.

Privately I know the dead beat ex has parents with money, yet the grandparents have refused to help their granddaughter out of fear of upsetting their son. It makes me want to go shame them in front of everyone they know.

Yes, and just when her boarding business was getting very popular. She mostly has Bernese Mountain Dog customers. I love the photos of all the pets living in her yard & little house. I hope both can be saved.

Yesterday morning, my supervisor and I both received an e-mail from our Personnel Clerk saying that my Shared leave request had been approved. She also asked if I wanted this approval to be sent out to staff. My first response was, "Duh!". However both my boss and I wrote back and asked that it please be sent out to All Staff. As of five o'clock today, the annoncement had still not be made.

G'night!

Finished with a really fun rehearsal - a lot smoother than the first rehearsals usually are.

Thank you for sharing your memories. I understand about "just who you are" vs "sad" as I'm feel the same way regarding my childhood memories with my alcoholic mother. I think the worse part was having to keep my secret which isolated me from my peers.
Thank you both for sharing your memories. I run into too many people who only want to share "good" memories, which leads one to think that their lives were a lie. None of us had a perfect childhood, but we survived and what we faced did make us who we are.

Tonight are callbacks for Parade. No, we don't have the African American people we need, but we'll get there. I'm kinda scared of the score, I guess I'll get over it. I do like the story, it really makes you think. Certainly isn't a hat and cane show.
I like certain songs from the score, but I do find too much of Brown to be, well, just like BK described a few days ago.

Jason played me a telephonic message he got from Mr. Jerry Herman, who was in tears and very emotional having just heard Jason's CD. And he even said he thought it was wonderfully produced.
It was. Wonderful and wonderfully produced.

It's 110 here. In the shade.
It still feels 110 here. OK, 100, but it's been dark for a couple of hours now.
-
Finally heard from my friend, Carol, today. She was without power, phone and the rest of our modern necessities for more than a day, but all is back to normal on that front. And her house is standing. All around her were flood waters. So, she's lucky.

Watching a Mae West-Randolph Scott movie, "Go West, Young Man." Throwing somebody as gay as Randolph at Mae West is perversely entertaining.
-
Mae's now slapping out a tune on his backside, and he seems to be enjoying it a little too much!
-
Had dinner tonight at a restaurant that wants to appeal to the Ruth's Chris set and the Olive Garden set. Needless to say, it appealed to neither set. Had a roasted chicken that was drier than my backyard in this drought. And somebody kept asking me, even after tasting it, what I didn't like about the place.

Hey, we're going to get to page five.
-
In a few posts.
-
Then I can go to bed.
-
Just a few more.
-
Will be making an Amaretto Almond Cake this weekend from a cookbook called "Booze Cakes." The cake looks much better than the book's name.
-
Can't wait to see the "Nudie" Blu-Ray.
-
One more.
-
Page five!
-
And good night.
-
Slow night?
-
I've been watching "America's Got Talent."
-
There were some very talented acts on the show tonight.
-
The male pole dancer was very good (and he's gorgeous ;)), although Piers and Howie can't stop commenting on how men shouldn't be pole dancing...even when another group of all men used poles in their act. But the other group were "manly men" and the single male pole dancer is...not (http://www.youtube.com/user/StevenRetchless?feature=mhum).
-
Postings are down to the nubs, baby. We'd better fix this tomorrow. I've been writing commentary for most of the evening - did watch one short film.
-
Well, the official announcement announcing that the collection manager (my supervisor) has been hired has been announced.
-
She starts October 3rd. It turns out that she and her husband already have a house in the area...it's closer to Tacoma than Olympia.
-
It's being rented but the lease ends in December, so they'll just get an apartment until then. I guess that it was the house that they lived in when she used to work for the Tacoma Public Library, several years ago.

Gratuitous Post #130!
(Today is now NOT the lowest posting day! :D)
