Title: THE NAME OF THE GAME
Post by: bk on September 03, 2011, 12:27:05 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had names and even had some games, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently playing a game that has no name.

Re: Spreading the word.

I am sure that everyone who is appearing in the series must be on Facebook. They can talk about it.  Also create the series own page.
There is aslo twitter.
You may also want to try linkedin.
Put together a "trailer" or "promo" reel and put it on Youtube. Put as much in the keywords that someone doing a search this might come up. The names of all the actors, webseries, music, comedy etc etc

I agree that FACEBOOK is a good place to start - there might even be a PAGE created for the web series that we can all then LIKE and that will give the info to everyone on our list.

And I think Broadway.com had a little blurb about FIVE MINUTE CALL or whatever that was that was a webcam set up in one of the dressing rooms backstage at SOUTH PACIFIC and was very funny....

Thank you for all the good wishes from last night - whe-e-e-e!

Get the word out about the show by sending an announcement/press release with a short preview that could be reposted to the the legit coverage sources in New York and elsewhere. That would include New York Times arts blog, BroadwayStars.com (which uses clips), Playbill.com, theatermania.com, Peter Filichia in New York, plus Washington Post, Boston places, Toronto, Chicago and L.A. Even Michael Riedel.

Checking out the people whose articles are gathered and reposted at BroadwayStars.com would be a good place to start.

Given the fact that you've got stars will make many of them want to pick it up. But not just the announcement but also an update before there's a new episode. I seem to recall when the [title of show] people did a web series for awhile, they got fairly regular mentions whenever there was a new episode.

As for the Topic of the Day...

The web series needs a trailer or two. A 30-second one at least, and a minute or 90-second one. You could do the usual thing where you show clips of the various episodes that are already in the can, however, I think even your trailer should be different. For some reason, I think one of those deals where the trailer doesn't really tell you anything about the series would actually work better as a curiosity piquer than the standard reel. Since the web series is a "fake series", why now a "fake trailer"? ;)

Otherwise...

Set up a Facebook page, set up a separate Twitter account (and actually keep it active), and maybe even a separate YouTube Channel (if you hadn't already planned on doing that. Check out the various Fan Pages on Facebook for the actors you're featuring, as well as any Fan Sites too (I"m sure DRs MBarnum and JRand could help you out with that). Then...

Just let it go viral. :)

BK - Don't forget broadwayworld.com - they sometimes will embed a video right there on their site

They'd done this with my two-part A LITTLE SITE MUSIC, and even did a little story on it,  to show you an example:
http://broadwayworld.com/videoplay.php?colid=87610
and the views when people watched the embedded video on the broadwayworld.com site did count for the YouTube view tally!

From DR Ron:
Quote
This evening, patience paid off.

I went to my gym at 4 p.m.   After I got back home, I paid a visit.   Guess who was waiting for me at the door?

Miss Vee.

And she didn't run away.

She also didn't let me pet her, but she sniffed my hand and allowed me to touch the tip of her nose.   I attempted to draw her into play, but she contented herself watching me play alone.

I have to say it's more pleasant going to that condo now that the kitchen is clean.  I think maybe Miss Vee appreciates the clean floor.

This made me very happy.

Good suggestions all!  I'm writing it all down.  I've been thinking about the trailer, as we definitely have to do one - it's very tricky with this show - I know the trend with trailers is just to put all the money laughs in a comedy trailer but then why even watch the show?  So, I'm tending to agree with Jose about keeping it mysterious while at least letting people know what the show's about - we just have to find a way to make that funny and interesting and so that it makes people want to watch.

Wonder of wonders, I'm actually enjoying some Saturday afternoon down time and watching college football.  By the time I returned from the luncheon, Richard had placed the centerpieces and party favors on the tables and suspended the Cincinnati Bearcats flag.  As soon as the decorative napkins are placed by the hotel staff, I'll take a picture of our rehearsal dinner venue.  It looks exactly the way it has looked in my head for the past 4 months.

I am back from a wonderful lunch of Chinese food at the 77th Street Westside Cottage with my friend Joseph Rubin, who's taken a management job with the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players (NYGASP). I told him all about Dublin and he told me all baout the Ohio Light Opera production of JUBILEE.

On my walk down, I passed the Petco at 81st Street, where th ASPCA is out in full force with kittens, cats, puppies and dogs for adoption. On my way back from lunch, I spoke to a couple of kind and patient ladies who gave me an application for adoption. There were two littlers in one cage of about 10-12  18-week old kittens, and I was ready to bring home a pair of siblings.

With all of Ginny's talk of her son's wedding, I can't believe that I almost forgot that I'm going to a wedding today!  FORTUNATELY, I found the invitation and the weblink to where they're registered.  They're registered with Macy's, Target, Kohl's, and Carnival Cruises...they're going on a cruise to Mexico, then Disneyland!  I bought them two meals (well, two at $25 each) for use at any of the ship's "Specialty Restaurants" on the cruise.  They only asked for two $25 meals, so that's what I got them.  I was then able to print out a nice announcement that I'll put with a card that I still have to get.  For their ceremony, they rented the theater downtown where I usher a lot (they're both theater people), so I'm sure that they have a fun wedding planned.

So, I must be off!  Have a good day, all! ;D

I had a Siamese for 16 years, and I love them, but two Siamese talking all the time would drive me bats, and it's a short ride already. There was an orange kitten I liked, also a black one with a patch of whie under its chin and a gray one, all short hair, that I thought were beautiful.

That's the way to go with it. I'll fill out the application this week and turn it in. I'm not ready to bring home a pet yet, because I have to do some work to the apartment and get all of the bedbug poison cleaned up. I don't want them hurt or sick because of me.

I like the gift & that you could print out the gift announcement.  Awhile back when I was looking at wedding gift options I didn't care for the hotel/resort choices.  I decided to gift some of their china instead.

You just answered my question.

When I think of your apartment I think of all the great hiding places for kittens.  Don't get a Tortoiseshell one, they can disappear in a book case right in front of you.  I know this from personal experience. ;D

Gee, I thought today was going to be somewhat relaxing, but noooo.  I got up, had an hour-long telephonic conversation which yielded some interesting information.  Then I realized that I have a lot of work to do to prepare for the Nudie Musical announcements - so I began by starting to redo in its entirety our Nudie Facebook page - we only have forty-seven "likes" so by this evening it's going out to all my friends to like.  That's going to now be the central place for updates and everything concerning the blu and ray.  I'll post stills and video there as well as release date, how to order, and all that stuff.  And when people "like" they can then send to their friends to like.  Trying to get as many people to like as possible.
Title: Re: THE NAME OF THE GAME
Post by: bk on September 03, 2011, 04:21:59 PM
Then I had to proof the Nudie packaging, which looks really great.  Made some fixes to it and have made some further fixes.  I'm hoping I can approve tomorrow, at which point we'll send it into the printers.  I found one other miniscule thing on the Blu and Ray that needs to be removed - a very easy fix.  I won't need to see another check disc as long as their QC folks give it the once-over before sending to the pressing plant.
Title: Re: THE NAME OF THE GAME
Post by: bk on September 03, 2011, 04:22:46 PM
I then saw the opening title of the web series - it wasn't quite right so I had her redo it and now it's really fun.  We'll finesse just a little more so it's long enough for Grant Geissman to write a theme.
Title: Re: THE NAME OF THE GAME
Post by: bk on September 03, 2011, 04:24:22 PM
And even though I'm not that keen on this sort of thing, I'm thinking about making the title possessory - i.e. Bruce Kimmel's (title here).  It personalizes it, I like it better than created by and when people start to rip it off, which I'm fairly certain will happen, it's easier to see the roots and no who was responsible for said roots.  What think you?

Wow! Did I make a typo that leaves DRvixmom in the dust. I was aiming for "Today."

My guess, when I read it was "Ready."

DR elmore - I just left you a rambling message on your cellphone. Hopefully, it was somewhat comprehensible.

DR Jose, it was quite comprehensible! Sept 22 is the date? How many tickets?

And even though I'm not that keen on this sort of thing, I'm thinking about making the title possessory - i.e. Bruce Kimmel's (title here).  It personalizes it, I like it better than created by and when people start to rip it off, which I'm fairly certain will happen, it's easier to see the roots and no who was responsible for said roots.  What think you?

I think that is a great idea.

T.O.D.

My other suggestion was to lease Mann's Chinese Theater, get a couple of searchlights, and let Jason Graae put his hands in some wet cement.

Across from my apartment complex there is an old church which has been turned into a wedding chapel.  It is interesting to see the variety of styles used in weddings these days.

It is also interesting to see how many young people still smoke these days.  There is always a large group outside the chapel getting their final puffs in before the ceremony.

I just drove my parents to the bus station and forgot how crazy downtown and highway drivers are.  I really do not drive downtown hardly at all anymore (maybe once or twice a year). And I am used the highways nearer to where i live.

This man downtown parked his car on a busy downtown road and crossed in the middle of the street without ever looking to see if there was any oncoming traffic??  His head never turned. And I was the oncoming traffic!

Crazy.

My parents are actually on their way to NYC to board a cruise to Bermuda. Hopefully they will actually get to Bermuda and it won't be raining like crazy. They are on hurricane watch for Tues/Wed!

Apparently the cruise is supposed to tell them tomorrow where they are going. They may end up in Turks and Caicos or some other island. They have no idea.  I just hope it won't be too bumpy. On the cruise last week many people were very sick.

And my friend gets to take a hot shower today, must be going to a friend's house for it.

Up early, meeting , breakfast, walk on Main St., another walk down to Surfers Point, laid in sun, took a nap, laundry.

After laundry will listen to music and pick up my mess around here.

Maybe a movie tonight ??, did watch Endless Summer last night.

I wonder how the rehearsal dinner is going?

DR TCB - it was beginning to wind down when you posted this and it's all over now.  It was a huge success - the food was fabulous and the vibe was casual and mingle-y.  My only disappointment was the Graeter's ice cream.  The freezer they'd kept it in here at the hotel had gone into "defrost" mode and our ice cream was more milk shake consistency.  Everybody agreed that it still tasted good, but I was a little peeved.  Oh, well, if that's the worst that happens this weekend, we'll be fine.

The rehearsal went very smoothly and lasted just an hour.  The flower girl (Mary Linda's cousin) and the ring bearer (Rob's cousin's son), who met for the first time today, got along very well.  That's a relief...

Found "The Great Ziegfeld" at Big Lots for $3 today. Watching the first half tonight while trying to get some writing done. I feel rusty. For all of the movie's wretched excess, William Powell is fun to watch.

Have a good day, all! ;D

Well, it was a lovely wedding and very theatrical. :D They filmed a spoof of "The Hangover" with the wedding party and made it look like Chris (the groom) was late.  If you hadn't seen "The Hangover," it wouldn't have been very funny...but I had and it was.  The ceremony itself included a couple of songs (one was "The Elephant Love Medley" as arranged for the 2001 version of "Moulin Rouge!").  And the bride didn't have a Maid of Honor, she had a Man of Honor!  The wedding "program" was laid out like a show's program and broken up into acts.

For dinner, they had a salad, chicken or beef brisket (I had the chicken), rolls and a mashed potato bar!  You got mashed potatoes in a martini glass (mashed potinis!) and your choice of toppings.  Very nice.  And three, count 'em THREE different kinds of cake!  Heather (the bride) couldn't decide, so she went with her three favorites.  Very, VERY good!  The did the usual toasts, cutting of the cake (no smashing into each other faces), and first dance.  That was pretty much it...everyone mingled and danced and ate cake.
