Good morning, all! Last night around 10pm, just after I turned off the lights, the construction crew arrived to repave and blacktop  West 82nd Street. I really have no idea how long the noisy process continued, but I was not asleep until after midnight; just when I started dozing, something noisy came wheezing and scraping down the street again. Once that was over, I slept rather well and I have three memories of dreams: recording JUBILEE with Tommy Krasker (like that's ever going to happen!), my grade school friend John Hawkins and I on a subway, and getting out of a car in London.

This morning, I have a trip down to the McGlinnventory to look for scores for Victor Herbert's THE RED MILL. When I return home, I have to tidy up this place which is getting out of control.

We watched Disney's TANGLED last night.

I picked up a used copy at Blockbuster.  For some reason, I'd missed it when it was first released.

It's a delightful, totally charming movie; one of Disney's best.

Glad you liked it.  As usual, I feel differently - I thought it was okay when I watched it, but not great, and frankly I can't remember a single thing about it just months later.

I don't think I ever posted this on this forum.

It's the trailer for THE OLD COOT, the opening short story in my new book.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HAbiNUnWRg

A group of filmmakers here in Austin want to shoot it as a 10-12 minute short...assuming they can raise the money (on Kickstarter?).

I've already scripted it and, if it comes together, I'll also direct.

Fingers crossed.

Me, too....in my most recent, I am walking to a building I had only been in once that I knew of.  I began roaming the halls.  Some rooms were empty and others were full, but I couldn't find my class.   I suddenly realized the hallways were from the junior high school I attended in the early 1960s.

I HATE those dreams.

WHAT?!?!? Her classes start at 6:30am? -I'm guessing - hoping - that's some sort of physical education class? and not a sit-a-desk-looking-at-a-book-and-listening-to-a-teacher class. -I'm just trying to think any teacher-friends of mine who would teach at 6:30am. ::)

Last night, I lost two items I wanted badly in a movie poster auction.  The items were linen-backed stone litho one-sheets for "Hello, Frisco, Hello" and "Star Dust."

I didn't mind too very much as I won two beautiful linen-backed travel ad posters by an Italian artist renowned for his watercolors.  One ad was a scene in Capri, and the other a scene in Anacapri (a second town on the island of Capri, which is both a city and an island).

That said, I have soothed my anguish over the other two posters by, this very morning, not 10 minutes ago, ordering a region-free Blu-ray player.

And to further soothe this anguish, I have ordered, from an Amazon.co.uk seller, a new Blu-ray disc of "Fantasic Planet".

Ain't it about time?

I am using Chrome for the most part, but I really like Firefox.....is anyone else having trouble with A LOT of crashes on Firefox tha last few days?

I've never had any trouble with Firefox on my computer.  I haven't really used Chrome much, at all.  And for some reason, Internet Explorer on my home computer (and the temp computer that I'm using) is not HHW friendly.  When I type in the "Message" box and there is more text than room and it's supposed to be able to scroll down through the message, it doesn't scroll.  I type a letter at the bottom and it instantly displays the top of the text box again.  I can never see what I'm typing, but I am able to type.  That's the main reason why I don't use IE at home.  Here at work (shh...don't tell anyone), it's fine.

Weird, huh? :-\

I would like to know how well, and long, the person or persons who reported these three people were questioned.

If I'm in a middle seat & the person on the aisle goes to the bathroom I am very likely to go then so as not to inconvenience them later.  Two men sitting next to each other & going to the bathroom is very suspicious looking.  ::)

I will DR JANE.

I wondered about the origin of the original tapes for the DD CD....but there wasn't much forthcoming from SONY UK.....a reviewer on Amazon has said.....and the song titles seem to indicate it is so.....that these were songs recorded for DD's television series called Doris Day and Friends that was on the old CBN television network back in the mid 1980's.....my guess is that is correct, although they claim quite a bit of clean up, etc, was done on them....

We shall see....I really didn't think she had gone back into the studio....although the notices about the release seem to want us to believe that was so.....

"First NEW studio recordings since....."  and all that......

It is number 9 in sales at Amazon.com which I hope makes someone happy, and some $$$ for Doris' animals.

Regarding the comment in that NY Times article suggesting that gay rights advocates are responsible for the depression of gay teens, I have to ask if there is NO LIMIT to the depths some people will stoop to create an agenda of hatred?

Gay teens are depressed because of being NOT accepted....not because of advocates who tell them they have the right to be who they are.

It's just another cog in the wheel of stupid that runs this country we live in.

Speaking of other signs of stupidity, the US postal service, which told me the 4 lb package I mailed to Dublin on Sept 3 would arrive in six days, has no idea where the package is. All I have is the customs form number and the fools running the post office can neither account for the package's current location nor why a package considered a priority mail item is such low priority. And these asses are claiming the US Postal Service is up to their necks in debt. With such pathetic service, is it any wonder?

I just sent them an email asking once again if they knew where the package might be, reminding them at the same time that Fed Ex would have had it to Dublin in less than a week and that I could have tracked the damned thing.

"I believe that the changes incorporated in this new version preserve DuBose's and Dorothy's intentions, while enhancing the portrayal of the story's characters and instilling a pace that maintains excitement from beginning to end," said Albert J. Cardinali of The DuBose and Dorothy Heyward Memorial Fund in a statement.

...

Michael Strunsky of The Ira and Leonore S. Gershwin Trusts, added the following statement: "…I would like to congratulate the team behind the American Repertory Theater's production of The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess (which, incidentally, has been the trademarked title for all productions performed over the past fifteen years)…They have taken the heart of the piece and adapted it to the conventions of contemporary musical theatre and the result is an exhilarating and stunning theatrical experience."

Gershwin and Heyward Estates Greenlight The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess for Broadway (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/154559-Gershwin-and-Heyward-Estates-Greenlight-The-Gershwins-Porgy-and-Bess-for-Broadway)

Quote
"I believe that the changes incorporated in this new version preserve DuBose's and Dorothy's intentions, while enhancing the portrayal of the story's characters and instilling a pace that maintains excitement from beginning to end," said Albert J. Cardinali of The DuBose and Dorothy Heyward Memorial Fund in a statement.

...

Can we count our profits now?

I hope this falls flatter than my mother's first cake.

I have a feeling that it's trapped in the black hole of CUSTOMS.  Once a package leaves U.S.P.S. jurisdiction and gets into Customs, all contact with the package is totally at the mercy of the Customs agents.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT ! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

This is very true, DR Elmore.

This happens ever time I order something off Ebay from a particular seller in a particular section of India. All my other India packages arrive in about 2 weeks time, but his often take 2 months because they get held up in customs.

For your enjoyment (particularly those who enjoy seeing John Abraham minus his shirt...which looks to be every other scene in this film), I present the trailer to the new Bollywood thriller FORCE.

As it looks no different then most run-of-the-mill US made action thrillers, I can only say that there better be some song and dance numbers!

Still trying to put out a fire but it's not looking good right now.  If it continues to not look good we're going to have to pull the documentary off the Nudie blu-ray.  That would be a shame, but we'll just have to see.  IF we pull it then I have to reprint the sleeves and the whole thing is going to get pushed another two weeks or so, so no way I'd have product for Chicago.  Send major excellent vibes and xylophones for extinguishing this fire.

It is quite groovy, and it reminds me of the music that the hippie types, and other youngerst, in DRAGNET are always dancing too....and I am always wondering..."where can I find that music"!!

One of my all-time favorite scores. I think it she put on a pound or two, she would be wonderful in the role. Hugh Jackman did a reading with her, but I bet he won't commit to it, good as he would be. I'd love to see Kevin Kline play Oscar.

Horrible story in the New York Times, Elmore. Just amazing how ugly some people are. That was topped, as if such a thing needs to be topped, by my ignoramus of a governor going to a university today and bragging about his stupidity, as if that made him qualified to be president. America is already slipping from in terms of technological and scientific advancement. We don't need somebody who has destroyed the state's school system to take on the rest of the nation. Rant ended.

I think it's a relatively good fit. However, what I'm most interested in is who will be cast opposite and around her... And whether the producers of the it-was-just-mentioned-on-"The-View" revival, will revise the book to focus it all on her character.

Frankly, I'd still love to see Coco with Christine Baranski.
