Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no bullets, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently in Dodge City, but are tired of the Dodge and want a Chevrolet.

TOD

My first experience was not Kraft Dinner, but the pasta from a package and a combo of cheese.

Later I tried Kraft and generic versions of it over the years.

Not one stands out

Saturday morning greetings!  Mary Linda arrived very late last night (or early this morning...).  Later today we're all going to Montgomery Inn for a belated birthday dinner for Rob.  Before that, Richard and I are going to see the artifacts that were discovered in the 1911 cornerstone of the old public library here in Middletown.

Good morning, all! Except for a period of about an hour at 4 am, I slept quite well. I dreamed I was in a music store of some sort and ran into one of the owners of The Drama Book Shop. Something must be in the air; I've had several DBS dreams lately.

I've put the laundry into the washers and I'm on my first cup of coffee. After 9 am, I will vacuum and mop the apartment. I have some writing for the Herbert cello and piano music to begin, and we'll see how far I get.

Went out to buy some tea which I forgot to get during the big weekend shop on Friday. Had my usual coffee in the local cafe. Came back home and thoroughly cleaned the bathroom and kitchen which totally exhausted me!

TOD: Last September I was taken to the Inn at Little Washington in Virginia for dinner. One of their appetizers is mac and cheese over Virginia ham. It appeared laid out as a fish with a Parmesan tail and all sorts of cheeses melted over carefully placed rigatoni shells. When it arrived, fresh black truffles were shaved over the top.

Fancy, I know, but it was incredible.

I have also loved any kind of mac and cheese with several types of cheese bubbling up among the noodles while buttery, toasted breadcrumbs cover the top, adding a little crunch and flavor to the mix. Besides, why stop with one form of carbohydrate in a dish when you can have two?

As for the Topic of the Day...

There is still something strangely appealing about the Kraft Mac'n'Cheese out of the "blue box". Once I got more adventurous with my eating - around age nine - I would start to add various things to it to make it more of a complete meal: diced ham, ground beef, vegetables, chili powder, etc. And then when I found you could add a tablespoon of sour cream or even some extra butter, well... ::)

Otherwise...

I've gone through the whole menu at S'MAC (http://www.smacnyc.com/what.html) in NYC, and there's really not a dud on there. -Although, I think my favorite is their Cheeseburger variation... With breadcrumbs on top, of course.

The Mac'n'Cheese at eatery nyc (http://www.eaterynyc.com/Home_Page.html) is also pretty darn tasty.

Vixdad (as we refer to my husband in these parts) was born and raised in Coventry.

He has taught me the joy of HP sauce, beans on toast, roast chicken crisps, brown vinegar  on chips and Imperial Leather soap.... (amongst other things)

We have one child, The Vixter, who occasionally posts here as well

Thursday night the Vixter and I went to the multiplex to see Shakespeare's  Henry VIII filmed  in a live performance in the Globe Theatre in London .

As I have never read or seen this play I was not familiar with the  text.  It really only covered the period of time from Ann Boleyn's arrival in court until the birth of Elizabeth.

I had to laugh at the final speeches attributed to Archbishop Cranmer  and Henry VIII at Elizabeth's baptism : Shakespeare is so obviously begging for favour with King James!

CRANMER
Let me speak, sir,
For heaven now bids me; and the words I utter
Let none think flattery, for they'll find 'em truth.
This royal infant--heaven still move about her!--
Though in her cradle, yet now promises
Upon this land a thousand thousand blessings,
Which time shall bring to ripeness: she shall be--
But few now living can behold that goodness--
A pattern to all princes living with her,
And all that shall succeed: Saba was never
More covetous of wisdom and fair virtue
Than this pure soul shall be: all princely graces,
That mould up such a mighty piece as this is,
With all the virtues that attend the good,
Shall still be doubled on her: truth shall nurse her,
Holy and heavenly thoughts still counsel her:
She shall be loved and fear'd: her own shall bless her;
Her foes shake like a field of beaten corn,
And hang their heads with sorrow: good grows with her:
In her days every man shall eat in safety,
Under his own vine, what he plants; and sing
The merry songs of peace to all his neighbours:
God shall be truly known; and those about her
From her shall read the perfect ways of honour,
And by those claim their greatness, not by blood.
Nor shall this peace sleep with her: but as when
The bird of wonder dies, the maiden phoenix,
Her ashes new create another heir,
As great in admiration as herself;
So shall she leave her blessedness to one,
When heaven shall call her from this cloud of darkness,
Who from the sacred ashes of her honour
Shall star-like rise, as great in fame as she was,
And so stand fix'd: peace, plenty, love, truth, terror,
That were the servants to this chosen infant,
Shall then be his, and like a vine grow to him:
Wherever the bright sun of heaven shall shine,
His honour and the greatness of his name
Shall be, and make new nations: he shall flourish,
And, like a mountain cedar, reach his branches
To all the plains about him: our children's children
Shall see this, and bless heaven.

KING HENRY VIII
Thou speakest wonders.

CRANMER
She shall be, to the happiness of England,
An aged princess; many days shall see her,
And yet no day without a deed to crown it.
Would I had known no more! but she must die,
She must, the saints must have her; yet a virgin,
A most unspotted lily shall she pass
To the ground, and all the world shall mourn her.

KING HENRY VIII
O lord archbishop,
Thou hast made me now a man! never, before
This happy child, did I get any thing:
This oracle of comfort has so pleased me,
That when I am in heaven I shall desire
To see what this child does, and praise my Maker.
I thank ye all. To you, my good lord mayor,
And your good brethren, I am much beholding;
I have received much honour by your presence,
And ye shall find me thankful. Lead the way, lords:
Ye must all see the queen, and she must thank ye,
She will be sick else. This day, no man think
Has business at his house; for all shall stay:
This little one shall make it holiday.

Exeunt

I was about curl up on the couch & finish reading David Copperfield when the dogs settled next to me.  Yogi seems content even though Craig isn't here & I don't want to disturb him.  Maybe if I sneak away & bring the Nook back here he will stay still & quiet.

For DR Doug, Craig is my DS (dear son) and Yogi is Craig's dog or my DGD (dear grand-dog).  Yogi was left on Craig's doorstep in Romania when he was only 4 weeks old.  He suffers greatly from separation anxiety.

That's the one thing about the Sony that I don't like. I can't charge and read at the same time but a charge lasts a long time. It will go for 3 weeks before I need a recharge.

In other news...

The gathering for my niece's birthday earlier today was fun and festive. We went to a place called Buffalo Wing University. It's an interesting place. It's right by George Mason University, and on certain nights of the week, it's mainly a place for students to get drunk on $1 draft beers and $3 shooters. Other days of the week, it is geared towards families with various meal deals and lots of room for the kids to run around and play various games. Today was a family day (obviously).

Alyssa's birthday is not until next Friday, but since my parents will be heading to one of their times shares next week, they wanted to come up today to celebrate with everybody. I was able to stop by to wish the birthday girl a very Happy Early Birthday, as well as to get a couple of hugs from my niece & goddaughter, Emily. :)

George how did you get a free Kindle?  I somehow missed that story

My debit card has points and I accrued enough to get the Kindle.  I really didn't know what to get, but the points were going to expire, so I figured that I'd better get something, so I did. :)

After today's matinee, we had a Talent Show. People played instruments, people wrote songs, people beat-box'd, people danced. And we ate a lot of pizza too.

It really was quite fun. And, yes, I played in the "Jug Band" Finale. *And if you go to my Facebook page, you'll see some proof of that. ;)

Oh, how many hours does 3 weeks equal?

Amazon says that the Kindle battery will last up to two months (with the wireless off).  BUT...at reading ONLY a half hour a day!  They estimate only a half hour of reading a day?  You'd think that it would be easier (and less misleading) to say that it lasts up to 30 hours and let people decide how they want to estimate their "monthly" use.

not yet - though she greatly appreciated your input  -- she is still trying to decide which system she likes best   since her dad surprised me with the Nook  she is thinking about the Kindle or  Sony to keep our joint options open  it turned out that she only had to buy three books this semester and none of them were available as ebooks   we were able to get 2 of them used for under $10 each and only had to shellout the big bucks  ($170!!!)  for one book ----

Wow!!! $170 for one book! I'm glad I'm not in school anymore.

Just remember, though, if Vix does get a Kindle or a Sony that you cannot move PURCHASED books between the different readers. There are some loan options for some readers though I'm not clear about which ones or how they work other than if you do loan a book to a friend then YOU CANNOT READ IT WHILE YOUR FRIEND HAS IT!!! I know it's the same as if you loaned them the real book but still, they are making some things stupidly hard. Also loaning has to happen between the same model readers, you can't loan from a Nook to a Kindle or a Sony.

Congratulations to DRs George and Elmore on their new Kindles!  Here are 2 websites from which I receive daily email notices of free items available:

www.pixelofink.com

www.ereaderiq.com

Richard and I have had our Kindles for almost a year now and we love them.  Yes, they're clunky for internet browsing and posting, but will do in a pinch.  And, yes, keep the wi-fi and 3G turned off whenever possible.

Oh, I still call him Ricky sometimes, but he answers to Richard and he really doesn't look like a Little Ricky.   I can't remember what he weighed when he went to the vet last, but it was at least 4-5 pounds more than when he came here. He used to have huge feet...he grew into them.   I don't have a good photo to show his size and i'm not sure where he is...probably downstairs looking out the window for deer or upstairs sprawled out on my bed

DR Jose isn't the only one playing after years and years and years.   I decided today to join the SC version of the local band that anyone can join if you know how to play.  My first rehearsal will be Wednesday night.  After two rehearsals, I have to do an audition, not sure what on earth I'll play for that.  I'm going to have to start practicing a lot.   Boo is terrified by it.  Callie and Ricky think it's ok

Where is that?  I look at the cover on my computer.  Reading the classics I miss the artwork that is often in a real book.

I forgot to check out free-Friday.

Today was my first time with the wheelchair after it had rained.  It makes it kind of messy on your clean clothes when you have to lift the damn chair into the trunk.

Oh, I hope it comes out.  I'm very impressed you can lift the chair into & out of your trunk.

Has anybody else bought this product, or am I the only dumb bunny?

Well, at 4:30 in the morning, there aren't a lot of other options.

Will Profesor Harold Hill be conducting?

But of course ;)

I don't have a color nook, so I'm not sure where you find it on that.  It's an option on mine.  I don't get art from inside the book, just the cover

I doubt anyone is surprised I completed "Copperfield" before the end of the day.  Never having kept a book out anywhere close to the due date I wasn't sure what time today it would automatically delete.  I expect it to do so at midnight tonight.

Tonight I will begin, on the Nook, WORK SONG by Ivan Doig.

None of them meet that often...well the band will be the most often, so it isn't as much as it seems. Plus I dont' have kids' activities to go to, so I have more time and need the diversions

You can probably still get free friday.  I often get the books on Saturday.  I think you can also download them to your Nook account through your computer.

Oh no, it works fine.  The pasta all comes out separately.  And for me it is much easier to cook in the microwave than to try and balance at the stove.  I am just not sure there is any energy savings when it takes 27 minutes to cook a box of penne.

DR TCB - One of my former roommates had one of those and used it regularly. And, yes, penne takes a bit longer to cook than angel hair.
