thank you for mentioning free fridays Jane i just downloaded Gap Creek it took about 30 seconds to load in my Nook
Greetings from Washington National Airport.
I normally take a bus and Metrorail to the airport, but the parking lot of my condominium is being painted Monday morning so I couldn't leave my car there.
I thought I'd have to park at the airport ($36), but knew that the Metro has some long term parking spaces. I tried to park there once before but there were no available spaces, so I didn't have much hope. But lo-and behold, there was a space! All I'll have to pay is $4.50 on Monday.
DR Doug R - glad you made it home safely and had a good time. Hope your sister's stomach is better quickly
Today has me thinking about the much-clichéd "six degrees of separation." The service today is for my close friend, Tracy's, father. Tracy and I have been super good friends for the last 27 years. I don't see her as much as we would like, but we still love each other dearly. The ironic thing is that although I have known Tracy for 27 years, I have known her father and stepmother for over 45 years, and didn't know of the connection when Tracy and I became friends.
Her father is one of the true legends of Tacoma Little Theatre back in the 50s and 60s. I finally got to work with Milt, when I was cast in THE MUSIC MAN in 1966. However, I had seen Milt do two of his finest performances years earlier when I saw him as Billy in CAROUSEL and then as Emile in SOUTH PACIFIC. In fact, it was this production of SOUTH PACIFIC in 1961 which prompted the letter he wrote to his director, which I will be reading today at the reception.
And even stranger is that when Tracy and I first became friends, I was working with her mother, but since they had different last names I didn't know of that connection either. It just happened that Tracy's mother mentioned that she was going to see her daughter in a play that was opening that night. I said, "That is strange, because I am working on a show that is opening tonight. Who is your daughter?" Small world, ain't it?.
DR TCB - I hope your time at your friend's service is filled with lots of wonderful memories. And hugs.
From Skip and me as well, TCB.
Michigan wins 28-7 - now I'm off to the grocery. Bye for now!
With all the talk about the satellite falling to earth and maybe hitting someone reminds me a the SHOWTIME TV series Dead Like Me. Where the lead characters is killed by a toilet seat from skylad that falls to earth and she becomes a grim reaper
~~~Additional Vibes of Comfort for DR TCB!!~~~
Doug, glad you have returned home safely, and hopefully healthy.
Good thoughts to DR GEORGE on the AIDS walk today!
~~~Additional Vibes of Comfort for DR TCB!!~~~
Ditto from me!
i am now heading out to meet DR Kevin H and DR Ben for dinner.
Good thoughts to DR GEORGE on the AIDS walk today!
Thanks, Jack! I'm back and it went quite well. There weren't as many people as I thought there would be, but at least people were there. We all met at Sylvester Park in downtown Olympia. We gave them the money that we collected (I was able to get $130 in donations!) and there were a couple of speeches. We all then proceeded to walk around Capitol Lake, then back to Sylvester Park, and that was it. A good time was had by all.
Unfortunately, I'm not having dinner with Kevin and Larry. We are not able to meet them. I'll be seeing Kevin tomorrow at the BCEFA Flea Market. I wish I could see Larry because I want to hear about Dublin but we will have to wait for another time.
DR Doug R - thanks for taking us along on your trip to Turkey!
We have Century Link which was previously Quest that DR JMK ranted about so often. Yesterday Century Link had outage problems in our area which the outsource guy in India initially denied existed, calling Keith Stever & confusing our phone number. He insisted Keith do all sorts of things to the computer connection, unplugging & re-plugging things. Once he was convinced the problem was not on our end he says, the US just reported an outage. ::)
Once the outage was over we continued to have problems & our speed was ridiculously slow. Today Keith spoke to someone in the States & they idiot from India had him connect incorrectly. I have no idea what the filter is but it was plugged in when it shouldn't have been.
We now have a proper, fast DSL connection and my book has downloaded.
Back in the UK after my Istanbul adventure. My sister's husband (who didn't travel with us) picked up my sister at the airport to take her back home to where they live in Wales. She later phoned to say that even before arriving home she began to feel very unwell with a severe stomach upset - this is an unfortunate hazard of eating unfamiliar food in foreign countries.Sorry to hear about that. I love eating abroad, but I've had one or two incidents like that. Hasn't scared me off, though.
Good to find that on return the weather in London is sunny and warm.

Or Grant Goodeve's charactor on NORTHERN EXPOSURE who is killed by a satellite.
Did the four-mile jog - chilly and gray today but the sun is trying to shove its way into existence. Then I went and had some Matzo Brei and signed two hundred sleeves for Nudie Musical - all told it took about thirty-five minutes, so it won't be too bad for Cindy later today. We're going to put Nudie up for preorder either today or tomorrow, so those here who would like a signed one will have a jump on others.

Oh, and that the conclusion of the service, we all went out to the lawn next to the chapel for a release of doves. Milt's wife released a single dove symbolizing Milt ascending to heaven; and that was followed by a release of many doves by Milt's daughters symbolizing the eventual ascension of all of us.

Oh and there should have been one grey dove that stayed in his cage to symbolize my friend Jerry who was busy cruising the Marine Honor Guard.
And the final musical number of the service was THE LORD'S PRAYER sung by the deceased.
elmore, will you be going to the Flea Market tomorrow?

Was there a dry eye in the house?
I'm glad it was a good service.
elmore, will you be going to the Flea Market tomorrow?
No.
Yup, that was pure gut. I like that he sang for his own service.
And I guess that the reading of the letter that I did went okay. There was a big stunned silence afterwards. I don't know what I was expecting, but stunned silence wasn't it.

Everyone must have been so moved they needed a moment of silence.
elmore, will you be going to the Flea Market tomorrow?
No.
But Victoria Clark may be there.

Good.
DR Kevin H, the concert on Oct 17 is with Maureen Brennan and George Dvorsky, not Brent, I was wrong.
I know you are all probably pretty tired of seeing my photos of monarchs... but this is one of the ones that was tagged and released today. It flew right over to the milkweed in front of me for just a second:
That's strange. It came out of focus when I smallerized the photo.
How strange, THELMA & LOUISE is on our PBS station tonight.
And speaking of ham, I didn't eat at the reception. I never like to eat before I perform and after I had finished I was in so much pain that all I wanted to do was go home and take my pain pills.
No, but you understand what I mean.

Ours, too, DR TCB. We're watching it and I'm the only one of the 4 of us who's seen it before. We'll see how long Richard puts up with it...

Yes, mother. Sliced turkey breast and mashed potatoes.

Well, it's dubbed beyond all recognition and Richard just said, "I've seen enough."

Because they can't say the fudge word on TV.
Well there was a near tragedy here tonight. Ricky got his head caught betweek the metal slat thingys on the back of the bar stool in the kitchen. He panicked. Luckily I was standing right there and was able to grab him and help him get free. He really slashed my arm with his claw. He's really freaked out, but he's ok, I held him for awhile. He's already chased Boo and eaten treats, so I think he's ok. I also sat and brushed him for awhile (his favorite thing).Good news for Ricky, but what happened to your arm?
I got some pillow cases and tied them over the back of the bar stools like chair covers. I think that should prevent it from happening again

He was playing with something and the space is bigger near the top than it is at the bottom. I really felt bad for him
DR Cillaliz - if that had to happen to Ricky, I'm glad it happened when you were home to rescue him.
I'm sure glad you were home to rescue Little Ricky! Once I discovered that one of the kittens had a cord twisted around his neck. I'm so glad I was here to rescue him.
