Well, you've read the notes, the notes made you hungry for Sno-Caps, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently at the MOOvies eating Sno-Caps.

Welcome five GUESTS. FIVE guests? What happened to the forty or fifty GUESTS who've been here every night for the last three months? GUESTS come, GUESTS go, like Grand Hotel.

So here's something pretty cool...Larry Miller (a comedian) was on David Letterman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4HUNjAQniU) a few days ago and he will be coming to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, here in Olympia, next month. In the first 20 seconds of Dave's introduction of Larry, he said, "On October 20, he will bring his one-man show entitled, "Cocktails With Larry Miller" to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia, Washington...."
Pretty darned cool! I don't think that the WCPA has ever been mentioned on national TV before! ;D
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
As Kevin mentioned yesterday, we were able to meet up at the Flea Market (which was, as usual, mobbed). We had a nice catch up at the
Westway Diner (http://westwaydinernyc.com/)
on 9th Avenue and 43rd Street. It's a regulation NYC Diner and it was very busy as well.
I saw friends at the Flea Market and at the TDF table I got two free tickets to The Fantasticks at the Apple Theatre.
That's all for now. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation calls.
Later, gaters.

Good morning, all! I slept well, nothing too weird in the way of dreams, as I recall, and I'mpondering my day.
First up, a trip to City Center and a visit with Joshie, who wants me to look over an orchestration he's written After that, a trip to NYPL at Lincoln Center for a coup[le of books, and then a trip to the post office to send those Herbert CDs to Drew Massey.
After that, I need to worry about things around the apartment.
-
Fun facts about the Westway Diner - it was the protoype for the SEINFELD diner, and had been voted by the Daily news the best diner in NYC.
http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/westway-diner/
"Profile
The Westway Diner is most famous for two things. First, it was here (rather than at Tom's Diner on the Upper West Side) that Larry David approached Jerry Seinfeld about what would finally become their incredibly popular "show about nothing." Second, it's famous for the arresting banner that covers the outside, declaring it the number one diner in the Manhattan, as determined by Daily News readers in 2002. Things have changed since then. Maybe it's the location, or the Seinfeld thing, or maybe it's the poll. But whatever keeps bringing the tourists, cops, renters, and office workers here, it's not amazingly scrumptious food. The astoundingly large menu thoroughly covers the world of classic diner grub, from egg creams and milkshakes to steaks, hamburgers, and deli sandwiches, and almost everything is competent, basic, and stick-to-your-ribs. Breakfast dishes, such as the tangy and light-tasting feta and spinach omelet, served with nice crunchy homes fries, are particularly well-liked. Although the mid-block entrance looks a little dingy, reminiscent of the Times Square of the seventies and eighties, the interior is bright and expansive, with a mural of Broadway marquees and theatre-going crowds covering nearly all of one wall. — John D. Rambow"

We have to replace some of our Appalachian Christmas cast: I was hoping we could keep most of them for Hilton Head, but it can't happen due to other commitments. We've lost Ben Hope - he was absolutely perfect - as the prodigal son, as well as a couple of ladies. Jarrod Emick wants to stay with us, so that's good.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Today I'm having lunch with my friend Becky, who I only get to see about twice a year. She and her husband have a home near here, but they travel for huge chunks of time on their boat and they spend the winters in California near his son's family. We have a lot of catching up to do today.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I have a matinee in a little under three hours.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I, too, like Sno-Caps and other chocolate non-pareils.
I remember going through a Bit-O-Honey phase. I just couldn't get enough of them. However, I would take breaks every now and then, since my jaws would get so tired from chewing all of that honey (flavored) taffy. On a similar note, I also liked Mary Jane "bars".
However, my favorite childhood candy: HERSHEY'S Milk Chocolate with Almonds.

These tv reality shows with sobbing women lamenting everything from drug addictions to having a 200 lb 5-year old child because they're idiot parents reminds me so much of that dreadful QUEEN FOR A DAY from the 1950s.

Two words, DR Elmore: Bad. Choices.
-
The only reality show I'll watch is THE AMAZIN' RACE. I caught up with the season opener last night. A typically fun episode, but I didn't care for the results (but it does set up an intriguing finish for next week.) There is a good variety of teams, this time, but I have no clear favorites or dislikes as of yet.
-
TOD:
M&Ms
Three Musketeers
Hershey Milk Chocolate
And, yes, they can all be bought today.
Haven't had a Musketeers bar in years.
-
God Tuesday to all!
-
My day changes before I leave. No post office trip today. Drew would like copies of the music for the cello and piano pieces so I will come back here, pull the music and photocopy it tomorrow. This is good, too, to initiate a discussion with a publisher on bringing this music back into print.
-
I am also in the process of packing books and DVDs for the Chicago Autograph Show.
Unlike BK, I will be taking them with me on the plane (1 bag checked/1 in overhead).
-
TOD:
My favorite childhood candy was probably red hot dollars (they were about the same as Swedish fish but shaped like a coin and just a trace gooier.)
I also like the hats that were the same kind of candy but came in different flavors and colors (though I would leave behind the black and green ones.)
Hmmm...I always thought these hats were fedoras, but evidently they were called Mexican hats...
-
DR ELMORE - my La Vie Parisienne DVD arrived today!
I shall watch it later.
-
Dogs and cats, cha chas and moon women, summer & smoke.
All in all a nice day on HHW yesterday.
-
I never met candy I didn't like when I was young(er) - everything except licorice.
I liked root beer barrels and jolly ranchers best of all.
-
More dental work today.
Since June 29th with a couple of exceptions I have been in the dentist chair almost every single Tuesday. I still have 3 more visits for one tooth and then the final tooth will take another 4 or 5 visits including root canal, prep work and the crown, then I will be done. It was worth it. I have a good dentist (though when he graduates I'll have a new dentist again) and the price was right.
-
TOD - I loved Holloway All-Day Suckers (kind of like Slo-Pokes) and Milk Duds and still love the chocolate/caramel combination. Don't eat much of that sort of thing anymore, but here's one of my current faves:
-
Dental vibes for DR Ben - no Milk Duds for you today!

Off to see
the Wizard Becky - bye for now!

Nope, no Milk Duds or other chewy candy! When I had a temp crown during the summer I couldn't do corn on the cob either, so I cut it off the cob. Not quite the same but still good.

What I remember about "Queen for a Day":
It was supposed to identify one woman out of three contestants (IIRC) whose hard-luck story won the hearts and minds of "the studio audience" who voted for the winner via an "applause meter". Jack Bailey (a sort of cheesy version of Walt Disney) was the emcee and it was his job to tell us about the contestants. And, on an occasional show, there would be one lady who had a child in an iron lung, a child with learning disabilities and a husband who had to work out of state in order to feed/support them. Then there would be one who had never spent a day in a beauty parlor or ever had her nails done but had "brittle nail syndrome" which required professional care. She would be married to a wonderful man and they would have three healthy children, but no extra money for nail care. The third would need a new washing machine so that she could continue to help support her family by doing laundry out of her apartment.
And the winner would be...the woman who had never spent a day in a beauty parlor. And her prize was a day at Max Factor and a shopping spree at some name designer's Beverly Hills shoppe. Sometimes there was a meaningful consolation prize: The woman needing a washing machine would get one, but not the crown and not the sash and not all the fabulous prizes. That poor lady with the disabled children and absent husband would get some "thing" or other that may or may not lighten her load.
I always felt outraged when the "right lady" didn't win.

I like some of these teams. i'm cheering for Survivor champs.
I like people who can compete competively. So i'm intrigued by the Olympic snowboarders and the kid who sailed around the world.
I really dislike on the first show when they give the last team to finish the first task a penalty.
But what was up with that guy taking the passport and not telling the gas station workers? That whole thing played out so oddly. Who was the guy tweeting? Other TAR fans that told him to go to the airport?
-
I love reality tv. But mostly the competitive shows (TAR, Top chef, survivor). Never watched Real Housewives or shows like that.
-
The weather has been so nice here. I think i may attempt a bike ride later. I'm only feeling 50% (have a cold - all stuffy). But i've already missed 2 days. And both days were gorgeous out :(
-
Oh! I forgot about Sky Bars....thanks for the memory DR ARNOLDMBROCKMAN
-
Yes, I used to love Sky bars. Like having one from each of the food groups.
-
When I was at LACC I discovered Botan Rice Candy and was addicted to it - it came with an "Amusing Toy" like Crackerjacks did. They still sell Botan Rice Candy but the "Amusing Toy" part is long gone.
-
And I'm up. There is a big blue truck on my corner - what it's doing is anyone's guess.

Back from my visits and errands. Now I have to assemble the 26 piano and piano-cello pieces so I can photocopy them tomorrow.

DR Jennifer, remember two seasons ago when the losers of the first competition at the starting line were eliminated right off the bat?
I also think the passport thing was odd because the show had footage of it laying on the ground as the girls pulled away in their vehicle. Who filmed that? Did the girl's cameraman stay behind? (No, because we see them driving in the car realizing the passport is missing.) Did the production staff just happen to place a cameraman at that gas station? That seems unlikely. It couldn't have been another team's cameraman since the girls were in last place. I hate to think that the filming of the passport on the ground was staged for dramatic effect...
But yes, I can believe that the situation was rectified through Twitter. Word can travel incredibly fast there.

Ate some matzo brei and have been busy ever since. Can't remember if I mentioned doing the four-mile jog, but I did. I've been writing press releases, listening to masters, and it's just been ENDLESS. But, I just sent out the following press release to three websites, so I guess we're real now:
Kritzerland is proud to present its first web series, premiering on November 6!
OUTSIDE THE BOX
Created by Bruce Kimmel
Outside The Box is a new musical comedy web series about a very outré musical theatre group called Outside The Box. Each episode features an entirely new cast, save for one recurring character, the director of the group. Each episode features between one and three musical numbers. The first episode of six (comprising season one) will premiere November 6 on YouTube (the YouTube channel is outsidetheboxseries), with new episodes every two weeks.
The first season features a wonderful array of performers, including (in alphabetical order), Matthew Ashford (Days Of Our Lives), Jason Graae (Forever Plaid, The Grand Tour, Falsettos), Gregory Harrison (Steel Pier, Follies, Chicago, Trapper John), Melody Hollis (White Christmas on Broadway), Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown, Chicago) Beth Leavel (Tony-winner for The Drowsy Chaperone, Baby, It’s You), Barry Pearl (Baby, It’s You, Doody in the film of Grease), Sandy Rosenberg (Mamma Mia), and more.
Written and directed by Bruce Kimmel, each episode features songs by Kimmel – the Outside The Box theme is by Grant Geissman, composer of Two-And-A-Half Men and Mike and Molly. Kimmel wrote and directed the cult comedy classic film, The First Nudie Musical, and is a long-time Grammy-nominated record producer, having produced over 180 albums, including cast albums (The King and I, Hello, Dolly, Bells Are Ringing, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, etc.), concept albums (Lost In Boston, Unsung Musicals), singers (including Petula Clark, Helen Reddy, Liz Callaway, Laurie Beechman, Judy Kuhn, Judy Kaye, Rebecca Luker, Brent Barrett, Jason Graae, Michelle Nicastro, Christiane Noll, and many others), as well as a historic series of jazz cover versions of Sondheim shows with The Trotter Trio. His label Kritzerland is about to release its 100th CD.
Outside The Box is shot on location in New York and Los Angeles.
PREMIERING ON NOVEMBER 6! EPISODE ONE STARS BETH LEAVEL, MELODY HOLLIS, BARRY PEARL, and SANDY ROSENBERG.

We are starting with furloughs again, beginning next month, TCB. Then beginning in January we pay more for our insurance, just a bit more...but the following January it goes up a huge bit more.
The Union is saying that the State is going to hit us pretty hard with our next medical premiums. Apparently, the state would like all of us to switch to Group Death. I imagine they are offered a better deal.

This was a bad afternoon. Mark, Stan's ex-son-in-law, sent me an e-mail telling me that he had left me a present on the chair in the entry hall. I still have a key to the house and the truck. I went over there this afternoon. There is one step up to a cement slab in front of the door and then there is another step into the house. The first step up is probably only six to eight inches high. I took my time, and went very slowly; but I couldn't get my foot to go up on that slab. Instead I took a tumble and ended up sprawled in the driveway. There was no way to get myself up, so I had to crawl over to my car door and use that to get up off the ground.

Thanks, Laura. Fortunately the appointment is on Thursday and not tomorrow. My whole body is already cramping up, so I can imagine what tomorrow is going to feel like,

I guess I was hoping it was tomorrow. Tell that doctor he'd better fix you up ASAP or he'll have to deal with HHW DRs and we kick ass.

Becky and I sat and visited at Panera all afternoon. I stopped at the grocery on the way home, made a taco dinner for Richard and Rob, then went to an AAUW board meeting. Got home in time to see about half of GLEE.

DR TCB - Glad to see you here, but I'm so sorry you're in so much pain.

Trying to figure out how dear reader George found the Outside The Box YouTube channel. I can't link directly because it takes you to MY account. So, how does one find a specific channel. You can't search the title because there are no videos yet. And I can't see a way to search for the channel specifically.

EPISODE ONE STARS BETH LEAVEL, MELODY HOLLIS, BARRY PEARL, and SANDY ROSENBERG.
bk - Does "Outside The Box" have it's own Twitter? ;)

DR MBarnum - I love Botan too! Still do! -And if you get the "real" imported ones from Japan, they still have the little toy in them. -Which are now illegal in the US since they're considered a choking hazard.
-
It was a treat DR JANE....but I don't know if they are still in production.
It seems you can still get Skybars (http://www.candyfavorites.com/skybar?gclid=CP3J4fCgvqsCFUwZQgod7T7ovg).
Economy Candy (http://economycandy.com/) in NYC carries them, as does For The Love Of Chocolate (http://lovchoc.com/) in Richmond, VA.
I believe I've also seen them at Wegman's.

It is my understanding that when the teams use cars, there is one cameraman with them inside the car, as well as one following them to take all of those exterior shots. I also think they downplayed some of the "Power of Twitter" in order to help preserve the some of the "secrets" of the show.
Or it all could have been staged.

DR Ben - Is your dentist working in "small" stages? Or did you just have a lot of work to get done? ;)
-
That's WAY too much dental fun for me.
