Oh...LOL ;D
And there was that one time when I played an audition and rehearsal session for Debbie Allen....
'Nuff said.
The very, Very, VERY (that's three verys) good thing was getting to see Lorna Luft's, "Songs My Mother Taught Me." WOW! She can sing and belt it out with the best of 'em. She does sound older than when she was in "Jerry Herman's Broadway at the Hollywood Bowl," but that was almost 20 years ago. Anyway, the show was about an hour and 45 minutes long and she was fabulous. It was real, live singing...and NO AUTOTUNE! And only one "keyboard." And a six-piece brass section. And all live musicians! She only left the stage once, about an hour in, to change her outfit. She walked off stage, the band played for just a couple of minutes and then all of a sudden, she came back on in a new outfit. The house was not completely sold out, but still fairly full. But they all loved the show. She got the best applause after "Time Heals Everything" (who knew?) and "The Man That Got Away" (not a surprise). She also got a very well deserved standing ovation at the end of the show.Sounds like fun.
Highly recommended by the likes of me! ;D
Elmo! Artie's at 5 tomorrow, it is!! Can't wait to see you, darlingest boy.
Woke up early from a wacky dream which I don't remember, but to myself I said "What the hell did I just dream" But couldn't fall back to sleep so I listened to some podcasts.
As for the Topic of the Day...
The one celebrity I've met who still makes me nervous each time I re-meet him: Stephen Sondheim
-And I still remember the one rehearsal of Sweeney Todd at The Kennedy Center I had to play with him sitting five feet from me. "Excited and scared!!!!!!!!!!!" However, my "fears" were eased when I asked him about a particular chord in "The Letter". There was a discrepancy between the manuscript score and the published score. I asked him which one was correct. His answer: "I don't know." :)
The one surprise celebrity - well, celebrities - meeting: Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner at What If?
I've also been very fortunate to play for various celebrities at auditions.
Laura!! Vixmom!!!! Howdy, gals!!!
elmore, I don't think he really has the ability to see any wrongdoing ever on his part. That's who he is. But rather than scowling or being acerbic this weekend, I just decided to be friendly, which I think he appreciates. He was awful doing what he did here and elsewhere - and that's on him.
Elmore, do you mean about Lilah and her demands that I change seats?
That whole group wasn't there at the first show of the season. We are hoping they all moved (and not that they just skipped that show).
And the word of the day is: VOTARY!

George, I am glad that you enjoyed Lorna's performance. I saw her nightclub debut back in 1972(?) in San Francisco at the Top of the Mark, or the Bottom of the Phillip, or someplace like that. Little brother, Joey Luft was sitting at a table near us, but Liza was absent. At the time, she never mentioned her mother by name. I think the only reference was for her encore she did MAMA A RAINBOW (from MINNIE'S BOYS). As she was holding the last note and the spotlight was beginning to fade; the piano started to play OVER THE RAINBOW.. This was only a couple of years after Judy had died, and it was San Francisco; so the audience went crazy.
I'll be doing laundry tomorrow. :)
And tidying up. :)
Friendly, but dim.

You're a good manBK!Charlie Brown!
Good morning!
I'm hoping a computer-savvy DR can help me with my laptop (I'm writing this on my netbook). The cursor (arrow) will not move. At first it disappeared completely. I turned the computer off and on a couple of times. I hit F8 (based on what I read some where). I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?
Problem solved! I called Toshiba and was told there's a little button under the spacebar that turns the arrow on and off. I must have hit it by mistake. Foolish me!
I have been working 12 -18 hour days all week - I feel like I have run a marathon = i just finished catching up = I am so angry about TCB's doctor's visit I could scream
I just want to drive over there and kick some ass
Friendly, but dim.
There's nothing wrong with being "dim." We are happy people and easily amused, you know.
Oh yea, almost forgot, i had my second accident at the same corner going home from work on Thursday. Had to have the car towed to the repair shop, could not drive it home. The other driver took off my front end when he turned in front of me. I was stopped at the corner, so i'm ok, just the car parts went flying into the street. Everything is plastic these days and just pulls off.
I think something is trying to tell me it's time to slow down my life.
So i'm taking this as a positive thing. 8)
I just turned on the heat, so it must be October.
Friendly, but dim.

I don't now what kind of computer you have, but if you have a Toshiba, there is a little button under the spacebar that turns the cursor on and off. Maybe you hit it by mistake.

Thank you, my dear. I was afraid I was being too subtle.
speaking of LOL my mom just told me that she has been signing all he emails to my 12 year old niece (her granddaughter) LOL
Finally Katie asked her why she was doing that -my Mom said LOL stands for "lots of love" doesn't it?
I was a little tired late this morning and took a nap and I woke from a very strange dream.
It was a "Little House On the Prairie" type setting. The main character was twentyish bitter Liberian. The dream was populate with people I've never seen before except my dream had a "Very Special Guest Star" Buffy St. Marie. She played a character who comes to town as the (unnamed) state first Native American politician. She meets the Liberian and it turns out that she is White Buffalo Calf Woman.*
White Buffalo Calf Woma takes the Liberian on a spiritual journey and she is able to find peace and love within herself. She wakes up and is alone in the library thinking it might be a dream. The woman in her Politician guise comes to say goodbye to the Liberian and she has a cathartic moment and cries. (Emmy type crying)
Liberian alone goes back to her counter and knocks over some books. One book falls to floor and it is a book about White Buffalo Calf Woman with a picture very special guest star Buffy St Marie on the cover. Something startles her and she wakes up in modern times in a library picking up the same book off the floor.
Did she dream it or did she embark on a spiritual journey. (Roll end credits)
* For those that may not know who White Buffalo Calf Woman is; she is a sacred woman of supernatural origin, is treated as a prophet or a messiah and is central to the Lakota religion. (So I guess the dream had to take place in one of the Dakotas or Minnesota

TOD: I have been blessed to have interviewed a number of celebrities over the years. Cloris Leachman stands out as the funniest and possibly the filthiest. But I think the three that meant the most to me were Lena Horne, Harold Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers and Bobby Short.
Had a nice surprise visit from my personal trainer yesterday. We attained another goal, which was good.
Tomorrow I have a visit from someone from Comcast cable. I bought a new DVD/VHS recorder and have had no luck in figuring out how to hook it up to my DVR box so that I can record things onto DVD.
I hooked it up as my old DVD/VHS machine was hooked up and as the instruction booklet suggested, but nada.
There are 50 million cables and it all drives me crazy, so I finally called Comcast. The told me that different machines might need to be hooked up differently. Hopefully the technician will be able to figure it out. I also hope the technician is the same cable guy that I am friendly with, because that would be nice. He works on Sundays.

After seeing Kasey's show at NYMF yesterday, I'm casing out the other shows. I see Sam Brown, the director of KISSLESS, is from Sioux City,DR Cillaliz! The only one I really want to see is PRIDE & PREJUDICE although THE KID WHO WOULD BE POPE sounds like a good time:

I covered theater and a lot of the arts in college and for about a decade or so afterward. I Interviewed Cloris Leachman when she was doing her Grandma Moses show. I met Lena Horne on tour with her one-woman show. Harold Nicholas played the role of the grandfather in "The Tap Dance Kid" national tour with Dule Hill of "The West Wing" as the boy. And Bobby Short did a couple of shows in Albany when I was living up in Catskill.TOD: I have been blessed to have interviewed a number of celebrities over the years. A few other faves to interview over the years were Lily Tomlin, Rosemary Clooney, Charles Strouse, Lillian Gish and Pat Carroll, plus a string of writers such as Terry McMillan, Michael Connelly, and James W. Hall (and a ton of mystery writers like him that live in Florida).

DR John G even called me in 1985 and I had to have the interview/article suppressed!
I did apologize for that, I hope, DR John G!
My friend Ian Kahn is on a LAW & ORDER rerun at the moment. He was a Drama Book Shop employee the summer he graduated from high shool.
Back from day one of the Ray Courts show. The first and only downside to our room is that Clint Walker had a very long line for two or three hours, and it completely blocked our tables (Druxy, Bridget, and I) from anyone entering the room. Once his line cleared (he talks to everyone and is very slow in signing and people had multiple items) then we actually got some folks. Bridget did very well. I sold some books and a couple of Blu and Rays and a surprising number of photographs. I do think I would have done even more had I been closer to Cindy. Their area was hugely crowded for the first three hours - so much so that I probably would have had claustrophobia. I said hey to Cindy, waved at Penny, said hi to Henry Winkler, and actually talked to Eddie Mekka for quite a while. Also saw my old pal Leslie Eastabrook - she was in my musical Start At The Top. Seka, the former porn star, said hi to me. That was exciting. Diane Baker smiled, Millie Perkins waved, James Darren came by and shook hands, Barry Bostwick nodded, and Paul Carafotes, who was across the way, and I had some funny looks and exchanges and discussed our Joe Brooks connection (he was in Joe's Headin' To Broadway movie with Rex Smith, and Joe was an investor in Nudie Musical). I must now go eat. Most of the celebs are doing the limo to the movie theater thing tonight, including Cindy and Penny, but that's just not for me. I'll have a nice dinner, maybe do the treadmill if I can get up the energy, and then just relax.

Here's a bit of San Antonio tradition: Pink cake. It has no right to be as good as it is.

What flavorings are in "pink cake?"
Oh, and I forgot:
King Donovan (nice) Imogen Coca (b***h) and Edward Everett Horton (delightful).
DR John G - That "Pink Cake" looks suspiciously like the cherry/strawberry Duncan Hines cake. ;)And, as I said, what is natural in all that?
Although, I think the main flavoring - and coloring - for Pink Cake is a jar of maraschino cherries with their juice/syrup.

Nothing at all. But that doesn't mean it still ain't delicious. :)

I met King and Imogen after a dinner theater production. She was all taken with the vocal score for "On the Twentieth Century" that I had brought with me for her to autograph. She had never seen the photos from the production that were in the book (which featured Judy Kaye and not Ms. Kahn). While she was looking, her full-size poodles were running through the dining area licking things that the evening crowd would be eating from. I found it all hilarious and daffy.
Laura!! Vixmom!!!! Howdy, gals!!!
so nice to see you Penny!! I wish I had known you were coming in I would have tried to get in to say Howdy and treat you to a meal or drink or snack or sumpin'
you have been missed!!
And since I have played under Maestro Domingo's baton, well... 'Nuff said. ;)
I think having no idea would be horrible.
friendly is better.
Oh, yes! Autumn photos, please!
My sister was laughing at how low-maintenance I was when I visited her in the fall one year. I was so happy just picking up leaves in her yard and pressing them in magazines.
I just saw a huge wave come in off the lake in Chicago, and sweep several pedestrians and bicyclists away...

Thank you DR's FJL, Michael S, Jrand, Jennifer, & MBarnum.
Michael he was my neighbor when I was 18 until around 22 years old.
Jennifer I'm guessing the police could check if the phone had been used but they couldn't hack it for personal messages.
It is getting cloudy.

It does seem so strange that the two cars ended up right next to each other. Very weird.
Weather here has turned very cold. I had to remember what my Fall jackets are. This is the first day that i've really had to think about wearing a jacket out during the day.
Brrrr. It has been so nice and hot all week. And now today it was like 8C. Brrrrr. :(

It's not really funny. But I loved that the guy they found (the one whose family found him alive) wrote that he did not hurt the dead guy.

DR Michael S, SAFE & EASY TRAVEL VIBES TOMORROW!
I remember Paul in Headin' For Broadway.....it was on cable the first week I signed up for it back in 1983, so I saw it many many times.
I went out today and bought 2 tickets for the POTO anniversary concert for the Vixter and myselfSounds like fun.
