Well, you've read the notes, the notes lived long and prospered, and now it is time for you to post until the prosperous cows come home.

TOD: Feels like the last few nights. Spring is happening here again now that the weather is starting to cool down in the evenings (it's 55 out right now), and so the allergens are back in full force and my decongestant isn't cooperating fully.

Good morning, all! Around 8:30 last night I passed out and slept rather soundly. I remember one bizarre dream involving Mary Rodgers, my efforts to find her to sign the Christmas card I had given her, and running into the Obamas who'd been involved with the same holiday concert with me and Mary Rodgers. The concwert must have been at Carnegie Hall because most of my dream took place around 57th Street.

I am off to breakfast and then back to the Library. This morning I'll finish up the Kern work on ROBERTA and mnake some investigations into the SWEET ADELINE materials. I am a bit angry at my friend Loras, who knew I was coming down - I checked dates with him before I booked this trip - and has mysteriously vanished to the Library's annex in Landover on "Gershwin concerns." Perhaps he will show up today. Perhaps not.

As to people getting on planes when sick (and I'm adding the theater as well, where they're also in close proximity to others)

I've tried to get an exchange of plane (and theater) tickets when sick.  It is almost impossible to get airline or theaters to do that, and I understand why - because everyone who wanted an exchange for any personal reason would simply claim they're sick if it were allowed.

The one time it worked for me was for theater tickets - when I had a cough that was so real and so awful that the person on the phone could hear that I'd disturb the performance if they didn't allow an exchange

Thoughtful quote from Duff McKagan (of Guns n Roses) on CNN, that he came to realize about the negative things and setbacks in his  life

"maybe it wasn't everybody else, maybe I had something to do with my own life"

Okay - just saw this:

DR PennyO - The Atrium is on Broadway between 62nd & 63rd. It's one of my favorite public spaces of the Lincoln Center campus, as well as in NYC. It's in the space where the rock climbing wall used to be, if you remember that. Why don't we meet there around 10:30? -By the 9th Ave/Lincoln Center entrance. It will make sense once you get there. There's a 'witchcraft there, perfect for coffee and a light (or not so light) bite to eat.

so that'll be swell!!! I'll see you there in ONE HOUR!!!

DR JOSE and DR PENNY O should be having a great time right now.....

We did! We did!

Penny and I met up at The Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, got some coffee (and I also got some yogurt topped with honey and granola), and then we sat down at a table and talked. And talked. A caught up. And gabbed and gabbed. And hugged too.

It really was a wonderful time.

I read that NBC cancelled Playboy Club already.

I haven't watched that many of the new shows. I have recorded the first 2 Unforgetables but have not watched them yet.

I really like A Gifted Man. And I really like Hart of Dixie. Not sure about Secret Circle.  I sort of like The X Factor.

I stopped watching Person of Interest. Just not really for me.

Also these are not new shows, but i am totally loving The Good Wife, and especially The Mentalist!

Another day with no sign of Mr Loras Schissel, who - I hear - was seen back in the stacks. I don't have a clue to what he's angry at me about, but I sure know why i'm really angry with him.

I photocopied myself into a stupor today: all of THE RED MILL, cut portions of SWEET ADELINE, and more of ROBERTA, including pages from the copyright libretto that have additional vwerses to some of the lesser numbers like "Hot sdpot" and "Clementina." The original scene for "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" is quite wonderful, with the first refrain broken into three sections separated by underscoring and dialogue, I also began reading the original novel. It's hard to believe this writer was a success; she's lousy. The plots are okay but her dialogue and descriptions really stink.

My postman just called me. I have no idea why. He knows I'm away until Thursday. Oy!

He just called back to tell me that he was off yesterday and my mail wasn't held at the post office. WTF?

Not really.   LOL-The Playboy title alone put me off.  I have no idea what it was about.

We liked the last episode of PERSON OF INTEREST, still have UNFORGETTABLE & A GIFTED MAN recording.  We are also watching the fOX sci-fi show TERRA NOVA.  After the 2nd episode of NEW GIRL we dropped it.

THE MENTALIST has been very good so far.  We still enjoy CASTLE.  While we liked the court case on THE GOOD WIFE we were just ok with the rest of the first episode but that is because we expect so much from the show.

Before we left this morning I changed our sheets and threw all the top sheets, 3 layers worth, in the washing machine so Sherlock would have clean sheets on the bed.  Craig dried them for me & had them sitting nicely folded on the dryer when we returned home.  Just as I was about to begin a load of towels Craig said he had attempted to put the sheets back in the dryer for about 5 minutes but it broke just as he did so.  Thank goodness I had not started the load of towels.

I'm now waiting for the repairman to call me back.  It is probably the motor.  Since the washer & dryer are 9 years old I hate to put too much into repairs. On the other hand I really don't want new machines so we likely repair it, depends on what we are told.

WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!!

The vet just called and she did not do a root canal.  The pulp of the tooth just missed being exposed.  She was able to repair the tooth & do something which should help push the pulp back so new dentin can form.  She will re-check him in 6 months to see if it held, if so he shouldn't need a root canal.

Second good news.  She called to say she doesn't think the growth needs removing as, in her opinion, it is shrinking.  No growth removal today & it too will be re-checked in 6 months.

Sherlock may be picked up at 4:30 with his clean teeth, filling & repair.  This also means no pain meds & he doesn't have to go on a soft food diet.

We are very relieved and happy.  :D

Just back from another night of drinking and eating (I wonder whether I should cut back!). Several pints of beer (do you have pints in the U.S?) and a meal of roast beef.

What about Yorkshire pudding?

We have pints but since I hate the taste of beer I don't drink them, though I'm sure a pint would put me under the table.

Ginny, do you have/go to Costco?  I remember that they (used to?) have international pre-paid phone cards for calling back to the US.  You could check them out...and if they do, I'm sure that they would cost much less than Kroger.

~~~Dryer Vibes for DR Jane!!~~~
WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!!
The vet just called and she did not do a root canal.  The pulp of the tooth just missed being exposed.  She was able to repair the tooth & do something which should help push the pulp back so new dentin can form.  She will re-check him in 6 months to see if it held, if so he shouldn't need a root canal.
Second good news.  She called to say she doesn't think the growth needs removing as, in her opinion, it is shrinking.  No growth removal today & it too will be re-checked in 6 months.
Sherlock may be picked up at 4:30 with his clean teeth, filling & repair.  This also means no pain meds & he doesn't have to go on a soft food diet.
We are very relieved and happy.  :D
Very, Very, Very (that's three Verys!) good news for DD Sherlock!!
My friend in Israel buys a phone for use here.  On our Baltic cruise my international phone was a pain, plus I kept receiving voice messages telling me I had a message, which I didn't.  I was advised to keep my phone off so I wouldn't get unwanted calls & it would be less expensive than answering calls I didn't need.  My suggestion, try texting instead.
Oh, I had accidentally taken my satellite alarm clock instead of a manual one.  My satellite clock is only for the states so I attempted to use the alarm on my phone, only it woke me up with the stupid messages telling me I had voice mail, which I didn't have.  There weren't any clocks in the cabin on the ship.
I've only been on one helicopter ride & got rather sick.  It was worth it though as we were flying over Denali Park in Alaska.  Because the pilot didn't want me to throw up (good excuse) he landed on an isolated (meaning no tourist) glacier that was not part of the tour.
I decided it was too nice to sit in a meeting, so I skipped my historic pres commission meeting and came home to work on the gazebo.  the outside is painted the inside is 1/2 painted.  All I need to do is paint the bench and the floor.  I changed it from white to brown.  It's not the brown I thought I was buying back in May, but I can work with it. I'm pretty close to out of paint, so I may get a different paint for the rest.  Probably porch and floor paint, it lasts longer.
I've decided to take the screens and the door off the gazebo.  They had somehow turned into a place for spiders to catch bugs.   It wasnt' keeping the bugs out and well....it wasn't that inviting.  With it all open, I think i may actually use it.  I'll need to spray for bugs, and I did get eaten up the first day I was painting, but I still like it better.   I'll keep the door and screens so i can change my mind, but for now, I'm going to leave it wide open.
Good Evening!
Tonight's concert by the New York Philharmonic was quite wonderful. They started off with Barber's "Essay for Orchestra" and closed with Dvorak's 7th Symphony. Both pieces were well played and beautiful interpreted. In between those two pieces was the World Premiere (is it still a "World Premiere" even if it the third performance? In any case...) of John Corigliano's "One Sweet Morning" for Mezzo-Soprano and Orchestra. Stephanie Blythe was the soloist and she really communicated the various texts about war and death with great clarity and emotion, and the orchestra handled Corigliano's very vivid and difficult writing with ease. -And John Corigliano was on hand tonight to take a bow with Miss Blythe, Maestro Gilbert and the Philharmonic.
Seeking advice from international travelers!
Richard and I just visited our local Verizon store and were not thrilled with what they told us about cell phone usage in Europe.  We then spent some time investigating international calling cards at Kroger.
Any and all advice regarding what to do about phones in Europe would be appreciated!
There are companies that will sell you a chip/card to insert in your current phone so that you can use it their country with a local carrier. They usually have kiosks set up at the airports. You can buy a certain amount of days of service.
Now if you're wanting to use your phone so that people in the States can reach you, well... If you know the number of your hotel now, that's probably the best course of action.
If you have a phone with internet/data capability be sure to turn off the "Data Roaming" as soon as you get on the plane to France, if not before. There are many tales of people getting stuck with outrageous phone bills due to their phones working in the background thus running up their data usage.
As for phone cards, it's usually best to buy one once you get to where you are going.
Finished with my viewing.  Would really love to have gotten another ten and a half hours of sleep but I'm getting up at six to announce our 100th CD title.  I shall then promptly go back to bed.
I watched most of "The First Nudie Musical" on Blu-Ray and it looks wonderful.  Can't wait for the CD!
