Friday morning greetings!  How does one spend the weekend before leaving for 2 and a half weeks in Europe?  Well, we're going to Lima today and staying until after church on Sunday.  The big ceremony designating Richard's church the cathedral is tomorrow morning, with clergy meetings all afternoon.  At least we don't leave early on Monday...

SPOILER

"Project Runway" SPOILER

It is, indeed, true what JRand61 said about last night's Project Runway episode.   The eliminated designer has consistently shown us well-made garments.  The designer who was spared has been consistently one-note and given to excessive moments of bad taste in fabric choices and color choices.  Last night was no exception.  In fact, so certain was I that she would be eliminated that I was flabbergasted (and it was no pretty sight, let me tell you) when she was declared to be "in".   It made me wonder (oh! yes!  I wondered!) if the evicted designer hadn't let it be known that he was ready to go if they had to choose between him and another.

The evictee seemed happy enough to be going.

JoshM is about as fashion-forward as Melmac.  He stumbles onto good designs just as he delivers, on purpose, his gosh-awful ones.  I'm gonna say Kimberly stumbled onto her design, as well.  It certainly wasn't a product of her forethought or imagination.  It was out of desperation...which may be how she should operate in future.   Laura Kathleen was wide-eyed with fear last night. And she should have been.  And it should have paid off for us.  But, no.

Poor Viktor.  He must be shattered that Anya has won the last two competitions.  Anya does amaze me.  And to think her winning look is exactly what JoshM was referencing when he dissed her lack of experience (compared to his years and years of same).

By the by....I watched "Bye Bye Birdie" on TCM a few weeks back...and I was astonished at how much JoshM resembles Paul Lynde as he looked in that film.

End SPOILAGE

TOD:

Been watching the DVD of A Study in Terror. I didn’t see the film when it was first released in 1960 but did see a TV screening many years ago. Not a great film but entertaining enough and interesting as the first film to pit Sherlock Holmes against Jack the Ripper. Good cast includes John Neville as Holmes, Robert Morley, Cecil Parker, Judi Dench, Anthony Quayle and Donald Houston as Doctor Watson. The film was produced by Compton Films, who specialised in exploitation films and the occasional art house film. A Study in Terror was considered overly sensationalised at the time (it was given an X certificate in Britain) but seems fairly tame nowadays. Good score by John Scott who I believe re-recorded it for CD a few years ago although I don’t have the disc.

Jose, I'm waiting to hear from the head of the department - I suppose we could do another day of auditions, although I'm not paying for a pianist again because not one person who sang last night had sheet music - the pianist was actually able to play most things they sang, but that was rather silly.  They really need me to come in and do a workshop there.  But I don't want the guys to audition if they really don't want to do the show - that wouldn't be good for anyone, to force them.

Oh...

Last night's taping of "The Colbert Report" was quite amazing. There was a really good vibe and energy in the audience, and Stephen Colbert was really on his game too. He does a Q&A with the audience beforehand - out of character - and I was the first one he picked to be asked by. ??? Or something like that.

"Now that you've tackled "Larry" in Company, which Sondheim role would you like to tackle next. Male or Female?"

Right off the bat, he corrected me, "I played Harry, not Larry." Duh! Then he said that that whole process really took it out of him. However, he said he would love to take a crack at Pseudolus in Forum one day.

Last night's guest was Lieutenant Colonel Jason Amerine who discussed the early days of the war in Afghanistan. And even though there were a few moments interjected in there, it turned out to be quite an informative, sobering and moving interview. His account of the first days of the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan 10 year ago today, well... I and the rest of the audience had nothing but admiration and gratitude for him and his troops.

And...

When they were wrangling us up in the waiting area, it turned out that the guy behind me was also attending the taping by himself, so the ticket hander-outer kind of paired us up - "You two can be friends now". ;) It turned out to be sort of a "cute meet". He's in town from Minneapolis for a conference, and ended up with a ticket for last night's taping. His wife (ah, well ;) ) had put in the ticket request for him. In any case...

We had a great chat while we waited to go into the studio. -And we waited about an hour and a half. He then asked if I knew any good places to eat around there, well... Since I had already planned on heading to one of my favorite places afterwards, I invited him to join me. It turns out that he and his wife are also foodies, so we had a great time talking about favorite restaurants and dishes around the country - he travels a lot for work. And he really liked Casellula too. -And since it was my first time back there in four months, they also comped a few items for us too. It was a perfect "Welcome back to NYC". :)

I don't know if there are any celebrites on this flight. But you never can tell.

Well, you are a celebrated journalist, so they should all want to sit by you.

Well, TCB, it all depends upon whether or not there is room for their walkers.  And some have a caretaker who will need to sit, too.

I hope you enjoy the service.  It must be nice to be able to walk there.

That guy sure got lucky to sit next to you!!!

Good Evening!

Pumpkin Pie Frozen Custard. Blueberry Chia Seed "Tapioca" Pudding. Dark Chocolate Cupcake. One shredded pork and plantain arepa, one chicken and chorizo arepa. An ice cream sandwich made with pecan praline cookies and bourbon ice cream. A raisin-cover rum bun (made with Galliano).

-That about sums up the past six hours for me.

The only TV show that I can recall ever seeing was a taping of CONCENTRATION on a class trip to NYC back in the 3rd or 4th grade.

If I could attend any show today, it would be Martha Stewart's.  She gives stuff away to the audience at the drop of a hat.

I was looking at the list of game shows from the 1950's, trying to figure out what show we attended a taping in L. A.   There was a Hell of a lot of game shows back then.  Strange, I don't remember a show called FUNNY BONERS.

I would probably attend a taping of Ellen, because she gives away a bundle to her audiences.

OLDIES.com has a "big sale" on their CHARLIE CHAN films.  For some reason, I don't consider $11.99 per film to be a very big deal, especially considering how politically incorrect they are these days.

And, yes, Verizon is doing some work in the 'hood. -Apparently, a Verizon worker accidentally cut a Time-Warner line, so in order not to leave all the Time-Warner customers without service for the next couple of hours, Verizon is letting Time-Warner piggy-back on their lines. Or something like that. ::)

No, they don't scratch me at all, they just run and hide....it's more like get behind the couch, run down the basement go around the futon, run upstairs, go under the diningroom table, run upstairs, get caught behind the recliner.  (from the cats point of view).  I have moved my couches out from the walls far enough so I can get behind them.  It's a necessity

Keith went to THE PINKY LEE SHOW & won a dog but his parents found a new home for the crazy Beagle.
