Well, you've read the notes, the notes, like Roll 'em, Sholem, moved quickly, and now it is time for you to post until the quick cows come home.

Richard and I spent all day Friday at Musee d'Orsay, where the Rick Steves podcast tour didn't work so well.  The museum is undergoing renovations and things are kind of mixed up.  We ended up buying their narration apparatus, which caused us to spend more time there than we'd intended.  Not a bad thing, of course!  We rested at the hotel and then went across to The Louvre, which is open late on Fridays.  Steves' tour worked fine there for a "highlights" visit, which was about all we were up for anyway.  The enormity of finally being in Paris hit me in front of the Mona Lisa and I cried a bit.

We had thought about going to Versailles today, but decided to stay in Paris for our last day.  I think we'll try again to get into Musee Rodin and also go to l'Orangerie.  And maybe shop a bit and get packed to head to Nuremberg tomorrow morning.

And with that...

Good morning, all! I had a very restless night. I do vaguely remember a backstage dream involving Chris Fitzgerald and a telephone call.

The Planetarium Station Post Office - my branch - and I are about to go to war. In the past year I've had to cancel payment on three checks that I've mailed from there at $30/check and then hand deliver new ones. The rent check, which I handed to my postman on Oct 4 and which is mailed to a post office box in lower Manhatttan, has not arrived after eleven days. My original plan was to take the check with me to DC and post it from there and I forgot it. What the fat hell is going on in the post office?

So, today I've got more work for the Encores! Gala, and I'll continue to number the measures in my scores for THE RED MILL. We'll see what new fresh hell the day brings.

DR Jennifer, no, THE NIGHT CIRCUS is not a young adult novel, though I suppose a teenager might enjoy it.  It's more a fantasia for adults who can still remember the sights, the sounds, the smells and the magic that circuses or carnivals could bring.

I didn't ask if it was for teens I asked if it was a Young Adult novel.  I don't consider them to be the same thing. I read a lot of YA books, most of them are fairly complex.  For the most part it seems like YA books are just labelled that way if the characters are 17-21ish.  I'm not sure why that is, do you know (or does anyone else know)?  Is that a broader market? Do writers sell more books if they label it YA?

I bought an MP3 album off of Amazon yesterday that's Muzak versions of various Bacharach tunes, including a bunch from LOST HORIZON.  The funny part is they hired sound alike singers to mimic B.J. Thomas, Tom Jones and ABC (the 80s-90s version of Always Something There).

Now I know this will strike some as heresy, but I have to say at times Hal David's lyric writing is just lame.  I love him, love the whole Bacharach-David canon, but good lord "big little pussycat eyes" and "that is where the truth always lies."  Come on!

But doesn't he make up for that in the same song with:

"What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat lips!"

Amazing that the Broadway show THE LOOK OF LOVE actually found innuendo in that!

...

No, DR Elmore, we didn't even get to see CABARET at Theatre Marigny.  Gardefeu and Bobinet will just have to get over it.

At the Rodin Museum today we learned that his critics lamented the lack of arms on one of his sculptures and he said they should appreciate what's there instead of regretting what's not.  I decided that's how I'd view this visit to Paris - appreciate all the places we visited and look forward to the next time for those we didn't.

This pisses me off! This phone number just called me on my cell phone: 406-219-2301. When I answered an automated vice told me I had problems with my credit card, and to speak to someone, press one. So I did and told the ass on the other end that I had no credit card at all, not with his stinking company or any other and to remove my number from their calling lists.

I wonder if there will be any feedback. I hope the jerks turn tail and run.

Nice review, BK!

Received several exciting packages today. The new recording of Tiomkin's FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE on the Prometheus label and a couple of DVDs, the films of which I've never seen and I thought I'd better catch up with them: Charlton Heston's ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA and SINCE YOU WENT AWAY - although annoyingly, this UK version doesn't contain the intermission. Both films ahve lengthy running times, so it will take me ages to get through them!

On the subject of credit cards I ordered a new TV online yesterday but the supplier later contacted me to say they couldn't obtain authorisation from the card issuing company. I phoned my bank and they said they had automatically blocked my card due to the high amount. After I confirmed that it was an authorised purchase by me, they unblocked the card. I don't know why they can't ask me in the first place whether I had purchased the item instead of instantly assuming possible fraud and making me go through hoops to get the card unblocked and get the supplier to re-process the order.

Well, I guess the way to look at this is that it protects you. They know that if you were the one to place the order they'd hear from you. Better to be cautious before the charge than trying to clear it up afterwards.

DR Ginny - Bonne nuit.

-When I went to Australia, I ended up ditching my guide book the second day. Yes, there were lots of things I had bookmarked to see during my visit, but once I got there, I found that there was so much to see just within walking distance of my hotels. It took all the "pressure" of me to "do EVERYTHING", and it made for a much nicer and more relaxed(!) visit. I basically follow the same plan/non-plan whenever I travel somewhere new (or not new). I'll make note of a few "must-see" places, but then the left is basically left to chance and recommendations from the locals.

Dear BK,

Why do so many people in the audience laugh when Chino shoots Tony?

It can't be that they are surprised -- we know Chino has a gun. He said he is going to kill Tony. We see him approach Tony and point the gun. They can't be surprised when it goes off.

I've seen the show done twice by professionals. Both times, there is twittering throughout the audience.

I went to do the four-mile jog, went about a half-block and came back home - just too tired.  Then I transfered some Chitty stuff we're taking from the Blu and Ray (mostly the Sherman demos), and began doing the edit road map.  I've now got it all done except I have to upload all the stuff from the blu to our iDisk and that will take at least ninety minutes.  Then I can finish the road map.  CD 1's content is done - just have to do CD 2.  CD 1 will contain the original soundtrack album (with the addition of the entr'acte and the main title put back to the beginning where it belongs), followed by the original film main title (which contains sound effects but is much longer than the LP version and therefore worth doing even with the effects.  We'll also present the film mix of the exit music, which sounds completely different than the LP mix.  That will be followed by the "storybook" cover version, with Leroy Holmes conducting, with various singers including Mr. Richard Sherman.  The total running time of CD 1 will probably be close to seventy minutes.

CD 2 will contain all the Sherman demos from the film (about thirty minutes' worth) and then several of the playback tracks used on the set - material that wasn't included on the LP.  These are, of course, in mono, but worth putting on.  And then we'll have a couple of foreign versions of the title song.  I'm sure CD 2 will run around forty to fifty minutes.

Guess I'll try to jog now.

What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat lips!"

Amazing that the Broadway show THE LOOK OF LOVE actually found innuendo in that!

:)

I am surprised that Kristin Chenoweth didn't have that song added to PROMISES, PROMISES.

I can tell you that in all the times I've seen the film, no one has EVER laughed.  If they're laughing at a stage version, either the moment is ineptly staged, badly acted, or the audience, as audiences today are wont to do, feel superior to the material (they're not, believe me).

At least you have a branch, they've closed all our branches and moved our mail sorting station to Sioux Falls, SD.  You can't even get a Sioux City postmark any more.

I'm off to Toyland on an emergency run.

This is a scam that has been going on for awhile now.  I had two calls in two days.  We were all told to just hang up

What DR Cillaliz said. However... Since you did pick up, just to be safe, be sure to keep an eye on your phone's usage just to make sure someone hasn't "cloned" your phone number. You should be able to bring up your call history on your carrier's website.

This is similar to the way I planned for taking Samantha and Jon to NYC.  I told them to pick out 2-3 things they absolutely wanted to do and we would do those, then we'd play it by ear from there

Good advice!  The scam here claimed it was about your wells fargo card.  Apparently if you pressed 1 they asked about your account number or other information.  It was bad here, I don't know anyone who didn't get a call.  Anyway, Wells Fargo went on tv and announced they would never call and ask for an account number or date of birth etc, they already have it.

If you ever have any question about the validity of a credit card company calling you, don't answer any questions. Hang up and call the number on the back of your card. They can tell if  there's a flag on your account or not.

Well they laughed heartily at a bus and truck version here in Portland, but for good reason.  First, Chino pulls the trigger.  No bullet sound.  He looks a little panicked, pulls the trigger again.  Nada.  Really panicked now.  Thinking fast (or at least as fast as any actor--yes, that's a joke), he THROWS the gun at Tony.  Tony falls dead.  You guessed it--sound effect of a bullet.  We were all in hysterics.

BK, your name is so synonymous with FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL, that it always seems strange when someone, like this reviewer, refers to you as "the co-director" of the film.

I was wondering if any of the demos from the DVD were going to be included.  That's great that you're able/willing to include them! :D

Yeah, the airfares have been kind of strange lately, good strange and bad strange. I'm still trying to figure out why some of the fares to and from Chicago took quite a dip over the next few weeks on United/Continental? -Well, I'm really not trying to figure it out, I'm just thankful for them. :) -And they're actually cheaper than my usual round-trip on Amtrak which is relatively quite cheap - $84 each way - and a lot(!) shorter travel time.

And, seriously, if you like Mexican food, be sure to set aside some time to try Rick Bayless's torta place in O'Hare.

Actually Jane, that's exactly where we went!  It was quite lovely and we had great weather.  We are back at my cousin's house for a late lunch/early dinner, then some more game playing...probably Phase 10

Exactly as in Bandon vs Shore Acres?  Sometimes Bandon get get too windy.  I'm glad you had nice weather.  Did you walk along the beach?

Sorry...we went to Shore Acres.  We did walk along the beach and it was delightful. :) We went to a couple of antique shops in Coquille, and then the beach.  After we got back, we ordered Chinese food (I had some not-so-great orange chicken) and then we played Qwirkle and Phase 10.  My cousin and his wife both go to bed early, so I am now up in my bedroom almost ready for bed.  I say almost because it's so darned early!  But it's probably not a bad thing to get some sleep...even on vacation. ::)

Well, it's nice to be able to ketchup on the posts, but using this Kindle as a browser is very awkward.  So, I will now use the Kindle for its natural function...continuing with reading BK's "Kritzer Time!"

Good night, all! 8)

Flurry is back for9r an extended visit: three weeks and counting.

Poor dear, she has such a difficult time acclimating herself to a strange environment:

As I discovered early on during her first visit, if you mix her wet food with the dry she scatters the dry all over hell-and-gone licking off the wet, so I separated her food when feeding her. I mentioned this trick to her owner when she was reclaimed.  This visit, she came equipped with a bowl already filled with a mix of wet and dry food. I placed in down for her supper and she walkedover, inspected the bowl, and gave me a very reproving look - and didn't eat!. I put down a second bowl with the wet and dry separated and she dined happily.

Shayne, there is no foreign language version on the blu-ray - there was a tape with various versions from different countries - I'm going to probably have it as a hidden track and I've instructed the mastering guy to edit them all (German, Spanish, French, Italian, Swedish, Japanes) into one track - each verse in a different language - I thought that would be fun.
