Good morning, all!Ditto, Jose!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Safe travel Vibes to our DR Jose! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Have fun in Chicago!
Mittwoch afternoon greetings from Miltenberg, where we just docked. We're leaving in about 15 minutes for a walk through town, but I thought I'd pop in while the internet is working. It's very sporadic on the boat, which is why I've been so E & T. Yesterday was a full day, touring Wurzburg in the morning and Rothenberg ob der Tauber in the afternoon. This morning I elected to stay on the boat for a lovely cruise while Richard went on the shore journey to Wertheim.Rothenberg is about 45 minutes from where my mother grew up. We visit almost every time I get back there. Gorgeous town.
DR John G, I want to hear THE CRADLE WILL ROCK with Marc Blitzstein's orchestration, but I must admit I'm not agreat fan of the score. I think Marc's greatest productons are JUNO and THE THREEPENNY OPERA, which - though antiquated by now after 67 years - is still the best singing translation of the piece. And the funniest. Selfishly speaking, I want Encores! to do JUBILEE, because I think they might assemble a really good cast and I know that Rob Berman will do a great job with the score. I'd also like to see them do, for the 2013 centennial of Moross' birth, THE GOLDEN APPLE.

Off to Miltenberg - by for now!Enjoy.
And the word of the day is: DARKLE!
Any suggestions on how to sign on to yahoo? It just wont' work! I had to use the computer in the lobby to see my email this morning.
Another thing: I think I lost my phone charger cord. Any New Yorkers here have a suggestion of where I could get a replacement? It's so old they probably don't have it at the Verizon store, but I'll give them a call.
So, it was a fun day! It was so great seeing DR Ben and Anthony!
It's supposed to rain all day today, I guess. If there had to be a rainy day, I'm glad it's today since we'll be at 2 shows: Spiderman and Follies.
Only two of us are seeing Follies, so all 4 of us are going to enter the lottery for Book of Mormon, to better our chances of winning. So, here's our dilemma: thought it's very unlikely, what if 2 of us win the lottery (we'd have 4 tickets then). Do we refuse 2 of them and see Follies or take them and try to get rid of the Follies tickets?

As a matter of fact, I did call the lost and found office at hotel we stayed at Sunday night . I'm waiting to hear from them. Fingers crossed!
DR KevinH - I can't help you with Yahoo!, but as for a phone charger, just ask at the hotel's front desk - or any hotel's front desk. People leave them behind all the time, and there's bound to be one in the lost and found.
I see I screwed up the quote thing again.
I'm glad you're having a good time, DR Ginny!
And, we've set sail again - next stop, Mainz!
MAINZ!
Nice review you posted on that movie DR JMK....hmmmm....and I like the screen caps - just not sure if it's MY kind of movie.
When are they coming to make your new desk?
MAINZ!

Tomorrow. And unfortunately it looks like I'm interviewing Francis Ford Coppola's archivist (hmmm. . .where have I heard that term before? ;D) at the same time, so I hope the desk builders can be circumspect. :)
Someone reviewed POTICHE (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Potiche-Blu-ray/23757/#Review) quite some time ago.

DR JMK. Thanks for the link. I didn't realise you were, who you are! I love your reviews.
I am trying to buy my way into popularity with the group
And, we've set sail again - next stop, Mainz!
I know Mainz well DR Ginny. It's a pleasant place for a visit. Pity you will be there too early for the Christmas market!

DR Doug R, it looks like Mainz is just our port for excursions to Heidelberg and Rudesheim tomorrow.
BK:
Potiche sounds interesting. On the subject of French films, did you enjoy "Le Diner de Cons" as much as I did?
BK, does your new release feature a Tony award winner for a Sondheim musical and a co-star with another major Sondheim connection?
My question for ASK BK Day.....are you attending a Halloween party this year?
I am watching some movies that I will send along to DR MBARNUM.....some of which do defy credulity.
Including:
The Human Vapor
The Human Duplicators
and
Mission: Stardust
Some of you may want to add this (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Harimaya-Bridge-Blu-ray/28518/#Review) to your Netflix queue when it's available.
And for the production number: the ancient parody GO TELL AUNT RODENT (or is it GO TELL ANT RODENT)
Good day to you and to you and to you. And to you there. And yes, to you, too.
The Rivalry between Portland and Seattle Hits New Highs (or Lows) Department: I have been meaning to share this somewhat funny (to me, anyway) anecdote about that Seattle friend who sent the e-card I quoted. When she and her husband were down here for dinner they mentioned they had had problems with ant infestations in their home, and we shared that we had, too, and that we had been told in no uncertain terms that you must not kill the ants you see, but leave out ant bait which they will take back to the hive/nest, thereby killing them. We were told if you kill the ones you see, the Queen just sends out more scouts to find food.
So, anyhoo, Pamela hears this and immediately states that they killed the ants they saw and didn't see any more for a while, and she felt that was because (and I'm not making this up) Seattle had a higher order of ants than Portland, ones who sensed that their kin were being killed and knew not to come out anymore.
JRand, The Human Vapor sounds interesting. Very intriguing title. Especially if it's a story of alcoholism. And I doubt that.
Having grown up in Salt Lake City, I saw Mormon Follies on a virtual daily basis.LOL.
Oh, wait. . .
Hmmmm....I do not know what the new cast album from Kritzerland is......I must not be in know.My only hint, if I am correct, is that somebody involved in the writing was also involved with "At Long Last Love." But don't hold that against this person.

I do believe it might, as long as you're not talking about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang :)

Oh. My. Goodness. :-\
....And it's cold and it's damp too.
Happy to find out the my 10 year/10,000 mile warrenty does indeed cover the wheel bearings and hub. The lady I had been talking to was quite surprised, but said it was good that I had pushed the issue....and now I am saving $500.00! Whew!

Well, stop touching it then.
Sounds like the winds are howling in the Windy City....glad DR Jose is already on the ground. I don't arrive in Chicago until about 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. Sounds like the winds should die a bit before then. Glad of that.
We are in for the night after a lovely dinner with a couple from Purdue and a couple from Michigan State. We shared our anniversary cake with them and learned all about cataract surgery. Yes, we are among the youngest people on this cruise...

No it is not, it is a man who is able to turn himself into a VAPOR - he then robs banks so that he can give the money to a dancer so that she can have a recital.....after she first buys her self a BLACK 1961 Dodge four door sedan.
I am awaiting calls from the Hyundai repair shop and from The Motion Picture Country Home's Elder Care section.
I'm on a roll today. I was previously on a bagel, but it was too hard.
I am making deviled eggs.
Yep, those new-fangled washers have built in "scales" and sensors that can tell how many clothes you're putting in (by weight), as well as the heft of the fabric.
Had my usual morning cappuccino at the local coffee shop. I used to enjoy chatting to the lovely, tall, blonde Lithuanian girl who managed the place but sadly she has moved on.

Anyhoo...
As I was taking the Blue Line into the city from O'Hare, my friend, David, texted me to tell me he wasn't feeling too well, that he was coming down with a cold, and was going to head home for the day. However, he said he'd wait for me, and at least bring my luggage back with him (since I'm staying with him). Well, since I had only got about two hours of sleep last night, I told him I'd just ride back with him and take a nap.
And that's exactly what I, we did.

You are obviously a man of unquestionable taste and brilliance.
Your check's in the mail.
I finally received my DVD-R of "Lost Horizon" from Warner Archives in yesterday afternoon's mail.
Nothing would do but that I put it into my BD player and see how it looked.
And that title song sung by Shawn Phillips....why is it that it really moves me?

Good to hear it DR Jane. Lithuanians are lovely people. There are lots of them living round my way. There's also a handy Lithuanian supermarket selling all kinds of interesting food.
Unfortunately, Joel Grey was out (actually, the insert in the playbill said that the role of Moonface Martin is " NOW being played by Robert Creighton," so I guess Mr. Grey is gone for good. Frankly, I don't know he could have been better than Mr. Creighton. Sutton Foster was amazing! How she could still sing after that demanding tap routine in the title song, I can't imagine. She didn't seem to be out of breath at all. The other actors were all great too.

I haven't tried it yet, TCB. It's for the gathering tonight.
I would love to take one of those Christmas time river cruises in Germany. I guess it is very beautiful with all the decorations and lights.
I made hot buffalo chicken dip, hummus, onion dip, deviled eggs, and cocktail meatballs. With chips, baked pita chips, and celery and carrot sticks for dipping in the aforementioned dips.
Cool! Just found out DR JHVW is working on one of the 7 houses in 7 days that Extreme Makeover is doing in Joplin. That's pretty cool. I'll have to find out if Joe is working on them too

I thought I'd buy my popularity first before I let them see my goofy side, Jose.

Last time, everyone visited and chatted and snacked before the meeting. I heard good things about it. Tonight, one guy wants to start the meeting exactly on time. So I don't know -- maybe I'll have all that food to bring back home.
Good Evening!
Greetings from Andersonville!
*Or, as some of the locals like to call it: Mandersonville. -Yes, there are some "special interest establishments" in this part of town. Plus a lot of Swedish businesses.
I am awaiting calls from the Hyundai repair shop and from The Motion Picture Country Home's Elder Care section.
I didn't realize that the Motion Picture County Home also handles car insurance?
No, no....not car insurance, DR JoseSPiano. It handles old Hyundais...but they have to be in good repair before they're checked in 'cause they don't do auto repairs at the Motion Picture Country Home.
I'm shocked Craig isn't home yet. He called to ask if we wanted something from the market. I didn't know he wasn't here.
BK:
I just read that Warner Brothers Archive has pulled Lost Horizon from their website and I was wondering if you heard about this and the reason why.
One site said it was because it was released in mono rather the stereo. But I respect your knowledge more than other people who bitch whether a film has an intermission or not.
Dear BK,
I have been watching old tv shows on hulu.com. Why is it that sometimes an actor is credited at the very end with his character? Like: And Tom Poston as "George."
Is it a good thing to get last billing? And why with the character name?
Why?
DR TCB I know how vivid my last fall on the hard tile continues to haunt me. My heart goes out to you.
VIBES YOU DIDN'T DO MUCH HARM!!!!!

And What Is That Recipe?
And I also just finished watching the musical version of Lost Horizon including the fertility dance. The only thing I thought of while watching it was all the barefoot dancers leaping and jumping and hitting the cement ground. I wondered if they did any damage to their feet and legs.Wow, did they ever explain where the cement factories were in the Himalayas so they could make Shangri-La?
