Title: COME RAIN OR COME SHINE

Well, you've read the notes, the notes rained and shined - or is it shone - of course, if it's shone then perhaps rain should be rone - and now it is time for you to post until the rainy and shiny cows come home.

I have to be at work this morning at 8:30 am...that's much too early for me.  A rep from our biggest book vendor will be giving some sort of demonstration at 9:00 am and I need to be there before she does to make sure that things are set up and ready to go.  I don't like being at work that early. :P But I must.

Good night. 8)

Ron - re DWTS

Well, I'm not saying it's tit for tat.  I'm talking about an overall air of free-for-all disrespect that's set when (examples) Bruno would liken Chaz Bono to a penguin or an Ewok, or what Len did to Nancy Grace (whom I admit I don't like that much in her news work, but she deserved better than that "you've been like Cinderella at the ball all these weeks, now it's time to go home" last week.  But she's classy in some respects and was in the audience this week, wasn't she?)

I sometimes make fun at Skip taking TV drama series seriously, and he sometimes laughs at me taking DWTS so seriously.  Much of this was "good television" - at least I found it gripping at times, and much of this season's DWTS was appointment must-see-live TV for me.

I've already gotten a tidal wave of angry emails (OK, just two) saying my SMILE parody on YouTube is unfair to Carrie Ann.  i should just be so lucky that it upset people enough that the video might go viral - LOL!

But really, it just seemed like something silly and worth laughing and parodying about, that Carrie Ann berated Maks for SMILING!

So here's a "Smile parody" about Maks vs Carrie Ann on Dancing with the Stars - all in fun, really!

LOL.....Carrie Ann was telling Maks that Hope's awkward lifts were HIS fault not HERS.

DR JENNIFER how could Hopeless NOT know she was wearing a microphone pak....that is impossible.  And she is NOT a nice person - didn't you see the part of the story about her dissing her coach years ago?

Maks and Hope were the perfect pair - two out of control egos struggling to be top dog in the pair and neither one accepting the fact that they have weaknesses.

I hope Maks is gone next year....although I have a feeling that reality TV has a Jayne Mansfield/Kardashian response to bad publicity - it IS publicity....people are talking about me....that's what's important.

If they get that 18-to-49 year old demographic to come back with these types of shenanigans, that's what it's all about for ABC, isn't it?  :)

Voting off Chynna Phillips in her bad week may have been the best thing to happen to this season for ABC.   I don't think people wanted to see Miss perfect be a front runner, and I love her as an artist, but the image she projected (I thought) was of having it all.

A nice moment was when Tom Bergeron said to Chynna not to take it SO VERY seriously - when he said "You've seen what the prize is, haven't you?" or something like that.

Although wasn't there a report that revealed that the contestant/stars on DWTS actually get paid well for each week that they're on - not sitcom or Simpsons-voicing money, but they were decent numbers.

Yes, they are paid a fairly hefty fee for each week that they are on, and a bonus if they make it to finals.

Good morning, all! I had one very bizarre dream last night in which the cast from Hilton Head and I were terrorized by a large carnivorous dinosaur. My only memory of the dream now is asking if anyone had a knife sharp enough to cut its Achilles tendon, if dinosaurs have such muscular structure!

DR Jose, I don't think this show is going into anyone's rental catalogue yet. We still have clearances to obtain for some of the music, the book to finesse, etc. We're considering the Hilton Head production a workshop, not a finished product.

So, today I'm staying pretty close to home. I've got to begin serious editorial work on the music prep for ROBERTA and THE RED MILL. I think I'll begin with ROBERTAS since it's the one most in need of a reconstruction.

Following previous discussion about losing cars in car parks, I downloaded a free Application for my phone "Find Your Car" which I've tested and seems to work OK. It's also handy for guiding you back to any location such as a hotel - I could have done with it when I got lost in Bilbao last week. Also a lot cheaper than those GPS key chains.

Thursday morning greetings!  It's sunny and cold here in SW Ohio today.  I'm staying close to the phone while my mother sees her doctor about the chest cold she's developed.  If he calls in a prescription for her, I'm on call to pick it up.  Other than that, I'm home trying to finish Zola's The Ladies' Paradise before tonight's discussion.

Had to go to the mall for a few things. The shops are getting ever more busy with the approach to Christmas. Whilst there had a tasty ham and salad baguette and cappuccino for lunch at a newly opened cafe. A female sales assistant grabbed me at a display stand and insisted on demonstrating a gel warming device - they come in all different sizes; some are hand warmers whilst others fit over your shoulders. They certainly get very warm. They were very pricey though and I declined to buy one.

Some of you may have seen/heard about the Portland Tri-Met driver who kicked a woman off her bus because the woman's child was fussy.  Well The Oregonian did a big expose this morning that this driver has a long history of manufacturing "rules" for riders, including telling people to stop talking on their cell phones, and Betsy realized she had an encounter with this driver last year, when the driver stopped the bus and said she wouldn't continue until Betsy hung up.

We know a celebrity!!!!

Of course Betsy was mortified at the time, though I told her it was ridiculous and she should file a complaint.  She assumed she was completely in the wrong.  I rolled my eyes this morning and said, "Sure, the Tri-Met driver gets the benefit of the doubt, but your husband?. . ."  ;)

Pan Am has just started being aired here. I liked the '60s look and it made a change to see people elegantly dressed. It wasn't brilliant but I found it entertaining enough. It's just a pity that it has to be so soap operish when there is considerable scope for some serious plot elements. And does everyone - including pilots when working at flying the plane - have to be constantly smiling? I'd not seen Margot Robbie before but she certainly is gorgeous.

For whatever reasons, the time capsule never shows up under software updates - never has.  You have to go into applications and click on the icon and then you see that it wants to do it.  I checked on the Software Update last night - nothing there.  And I do get auto notified when updates are available.  It's weird.

DRs Jose and Jane - thanks for asking about my Mom.  Her doctor found no reason to suspect anything more serious than a chest cold, so he's called for an antibiotic that I'll go pick up and deliver to her.  When I called about an hour ago, the pharmacy had not yet heard from the doctor's office, so I'll check again pretty soon.  It's too far away to just head out before I know the order is ready.

I am, but it's because in Oakland you never see ANYONE in law enforcement on the streets.  Folks jaywalk ALL the time here and never get ticketed for it.  It's because our police force is decimated.   Many police forces in small cities no longer exist...they use County sheriffs and even they don't patrol the streets.

L.A. has, apparently, not been affected.

TOD - this is probably the dietary category that's changed most drastically in the aftermath of my heart attack.  I used to love chips and salsa, cheese & crackers, and salty snacks like potato chips and mixed nuts.  I've eliminated the high-fat, high-sodium items and now eat baby carrots instead of chips with my salsa and I roast my own unsalted almonds.

Sheesh!  I called the pharmacy again and they still had not heard from Mom's doctor's office.  So, I called there and they said, "Oh, we'll call that in right now!"  So, I'm off to a far-away Kroger - bye for now!

You are in California so I'm not surprised you got pulled over for jaywalking.

There's no such word as jaywalking or any such offence in the UK.  I see tourists standing by the side of the road waiting for the lights to tell them to cross but we locals just wander across the road whenever we feel like it.  ;D

I got ticketed for jaywalking once in Cincinnati. I thought it was a joke and never paid the ticket. Forgot about it. Three years later, I got stopped for speeding and they hauled me in for the unpaid jaywalking ticket. I was in for an hour or two until friends with my ATM card got me out.

So, I did the crime and I did the time.

TOD: I used to snack on crisps a lot but hardly ever eat them now. I suppose I stopped because I began to think that they weren't healthy. Nowadays I snack mainly on nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts) and biscuits. Oddly enough, I used to snack far more at the office when I was working, than I do now.

I obviously have a different opinion that DR Ron P. But here are my 2 cents.

I don't think that the judges are above the professional dancers. They are there to critique the celebrities. All the professional dancers are amazing. They choreograph and teach and are truly fantastic.

I think that the judges have a tough job. Because they want to critique the celebs. But it's hard when they have all different levels of abilities.  And they want to be entertaining.

I think for the most part the judges try not to be too mean. But occasionally what they say hurts the celebs (take Chaz Bono for instance - Bruno called him a name and he was very upset by it).

I agree with you DR FJL. But i guess sometimes they try to be funny. They just hurt people's feelings (although i think unintentionally).

One thing that i think Maks was right about is that the judges score some people based on their own ability. I think that Chaz and Nancy both got higher scores than they probably deserved. And to me Hope had more ability than them. But they were perfoming as good as they were capable of performing.

Okay it does make Carrie Ann look mean. And she seems like a nice person. I honestly think that she thought Maks was being disrespectful. I personally thought he was smiling because he was happy that he and Hope were in the semi finals and that they got thru the dance. but because of what happened in previous weeks i can totally see why she thought he was smirking.

I'm not quite sure why Chaz was hurt by what Bruno said.  Chaz had just danced a really bad dance to music from the "Phantom of the Opera".  He was in white tie and a tux jacket.  All he did was kick his feet out.  His partner was dancing and Chaz looked like he was auditioning to be a Rockette.  Bruno told Chaz he looked like a penguin on the dance floor.  And truth is, he did.  I found it funny.  I'm quite certain Chaz has been subjected to a lot of hurtful verbiage in his short lifetime....and being likened to looking like a penguin in his getup on that dance floor should not rank "way up there" as being "hurtful", IMO.

I have to be at work this morning at 8:30 am...that's much too early for me.  A rep from our biggest book vendor will be giving some sort of demonstration at 9:00 am and I need to be there before she does to make sure that things are set up and ready to go.  I don't like being at work that early. :P But I must.

Good night. 8)

Well, I was able to get (almost) enough sleep but I did get to work at about 8:35.  The rep (Amy) got there and we got everything set up and demo (for downloadable e-books) went well.  Then I gave Amy a little tour of our technical services department here at the Service Center and then she left.

Now that I've had lunch, I just have to get some ordering done, then I need to pay some invoices.  All in a day's work. :D

Of couse Hope knew that there was a mike. But i feel like maybe she forgot.

I didn't feel like she was totally in the wrong re: what she said about her coach. She was wrong to go public. But I think she just wanted to play.

I hope Maks stays. He is one of my favorite pros.  I think because he's not American he just sometimes comes across as a bit rough. But i think he is great. Love him.

He was actually on that CW show with Mario Lopez where somebody hates a celeb and then they get to spend time with them. There was this woman who hated Maks. She thought he was arrogant and rude. She got to spend a few days with him. He taught her how to dance. And she realized that what she thought was mostly because of the media and that he really was a patient wonderful teacher.

You are in California so I'm not surprised you got pulled over for jaywalking.

Maybe I should have said L.A., not California.  I remember not jay walking to avoid getting a ticket, that or looking carefully for a cop first.

It is a shame your police force is so reduced.

Happy Christmas Little Friend:

Here are the lyrics

The soft morning light of a pale winter's sun
is tracing the trees on the snow
Leap up little friend and fly down the stairs
For Christmas is waiting below
There's a tree in the room
running over with stars
that twinkle and sing to your eyes
and under the tree there are presents that say
Unwrap me and get a surprise

Happy Christmas Little Friend
May your heart be laughing all day
May your joy be a dream
You'll remember as the years
roll along on their way
As the years roll along on their way
You'll be showing your own kid a tree
Then at last my friend
You'll know how happy a Christmas can be
how happy a Christmas can be

I miss reading just released books on a regular basis but there are so many books out there to read I have more than enough reading material.  With ebooks I'll be reading more recently books than before but of course I'll be paying for the privilege.

Well, at least all I got last night was a "talking to". I sensed that the policemen wered bored. They were probably out on the lookout for the drag racers that have been going up and down Brand Ave. I had actually pushed the "Walk" button at the crosswalk, waited two minutes, then when the light had not yet changed yet, I looked both ways, then crossed the street. As soon at my foot hit the other curb, I heard the police siren/blip. In a sense, it was kind of comical. However, it was nice to know that they actually enforce things like that out here.

Now I know.

I heard someone recently received a ticket in town.  We jaywalk there all the time.  It is easy to see if traffic is coming on a one way street.  We also find it annoying the pedestrian light turns red long before the green light turns yellow, totally unnecessary on small streets.

Come to think of it I have to submit requests in person which is why I don't do it.  I think their secret complaint isn't that you turn in so many requests but that you track the requests & catch their errors.  Maybe a plate of cookies in & a nice note will soften their attitude.

I miss reading just released books on a regular basis but there are so many books out there to read I have more than enough reading material.  With ebooks I'll be reading more recently books than before but of course I'll be paying for the privilege.

DR Jane, maybe you are right (about the reason they are annoyed).  I don't think this librarian was annoyed (not like the lady in charge who definitely is annoyed with me). I don't even think the lady meant to be rude (not like the other lady who is rude). It's just the way she said it that hurt my feelings.

There are too many librarians to feed!  And the older lady meant think i put something in them!

That is funny that you have to suggest books in person too. :)

However one difference is that we can reserve books online after the library has received them. I believe your library puts the books in their system as soon as they order them (or at least well in advance).

I didn't think it was jaywalking if you cross at the crosswalk.

Here jaywalking is when you cross in the middle of a street!  People do this all the time and are never ticketed.  I only dislike it when people do it dangerously. But what DR Jose described was not dangerous. And it was at a crosswalk!

Last week after dark a bicycle jayrode across the middle of 6 lane traffic, while i was stopped at the red light. He crossed in the middle of the street (3 lanes each way). No helmut. I was stunned. What he did was so dangerous. It was ridiculous.

Yes, once they have been ordered I an place a hold on the book.  I think that is a good idea so people don't bother the librarians with requests for books that have already been ordered. ;)

The book I'm first in line for that was published on the 8th is still listed as "in-progress"  With luck is will be available just as I finish reading, via the Nook, THE LAND OF PAINTED CAVES.

I didn't watch this season, but I did read Bruno's comment to Chaz, which I thought was extremely rude.  Apparently Bruno gets away with it, because he is such a goof ball.

Well i do like to get the new releases first.

But there is no way to know which books have been ordered unless i went to the nice older lady and asked her book by book.

But like i said we can't reserve online until the book is at the library.

And even though my library makes errors they are still amazing. They buy 95% of the books i request. They process the books very quickly after they get them. I am very lucky. It would cost a lot of buy all the books i take out.

I don't walk very often in busy areas where there are crosswalks. I mostly bike.

I have seen people cross when the lights are red. but most of the streets that have crosswalks are very busy. So there are always cars coming. But i don't think i would consider that jaywalking. People here run across 6 lane busy streets in the middle of the road. It is fairly dangerous. To me that is the true meaning of jaywalking.

95% is just a guesstimate. I really have no idea.

I actually win quite a lot of books. And if my library does not have a series that i want to read, i check my sister's library before making my library order it. If my sister's library has it i just ask her to take it for me.

So i am quite nice actually. :)

If they don't have the book they can request an inter-library loan which i think they did twice. Once they did it from across the country (which was no practical). ANd the dumb part is they ended up buying the series. And once they did it from across town without even telling me (the book just showed up).

I think when you read the comments it comes across as meaner. Bruno is so over the top that he uses words that are elaborate. But he gives hand gestures and acts out what he says.

But since Chaz was upset, obviously he went too far. But it was sort of funny for the at home viewer.

Yahoo has an interesting story on the worst covers of Life magazine, which includes a photo of Kaye Ballard in "The Golden Apple",

http://news.yahoo.com/photos/life-s-20-worst-covers-1321377938-slideshow/

One of the covers mentions a Rodgers & Hammerstein Christmas song, which Peter Filichia says was a stand-alone piece called "Merry Christmas, Little Friend." Does anybody know the song or know of a recording?

It's called Happy Christmas, Little Friend. It seems to be available as sheet music on line but I can't find a recording. Rosemary Clooney sang it on a Christmas album and there are many references all over the Web when you look for Happy, not Merry.

Happy Christmas, Little Friend (http://www.freehandmusic.com/sheet-music/happy-christmas-little-friend-366901)

Not to be confused with Happy Christmas, Little Lamb

Or the edible version: Happy Christmas, Little Lamb Chop (Ho-ho-hold the Jolly Mint Jelly)

Be careful, Jane will get you for that one!

Pedestrians will cross at any point in the road here. Crosswalks are only a suggestion, it seems. They will also stand in the middle of the street.

Between the Luhrs central parking lot and the East Court Building we used to regularly cross right where there was a big sign saying "This is not a cross walk. Do not cross here".   Everyone did it

DWTS - I was shocked at Hope's attitude and even though I'm not a big Maks fan, when she was being so snippy and rude, I really was hoping she was out of there.   I think the judges were a bit too much this season, but you have to believe some of it is orchestrated.  It's got people talking about the show and people were tuning in to see what happened next.

I am happy with the final 3 and home JR wins it all

Two legal firestorms coincided to bring Frances down:  she had failed to pay her DUI fine off, and then she went and assaulted a hairdresser.  If it ain't one thing, it's 'nother.  :)

And...

We had a good rehearsal tonight.

Well...

I think we did.

At least there was a lot of laughter.

I am watching  the new Marshall's Dept store  holiday commercial and I am wondering how many of those dancing  and singing bag swirling people are friends of Jose's

DR vixmom - It's possible I might. However, I believe that commercial was filmed in North Carolina - a lot of commercials get shot there diets to the lower Union - or non-existent - costs. I shall have to keep my eye out for it.

Back from rehearsal, which was indeed a lot of fun.  We did detail work tonight, rather than run the show.  One of our actors informed me he got a day of work on some film tomorrow and he might not be with us for what is one of our final two run-throughs with the full cast before tech - not thrilled about it but what can you do?

On ABC Nightly News just now they announced that Swift Butterball will be donating 20,000 lbs. to the nations food banks this Thanksgiving.  20,000 lbs.?  Isn't that a pretty small donation?

I wonder if they meant 20,000 turkeys?

Although if a meal is one pound, that's 20,000 people getting fed. Nothing to sneeze at there. And, hopefully, other food companies are also making donations.

And I still can't believe I got "pulled over" for jaywalking last night. Thankfully, I think my "I'm from New York City" excuse(?) worked. ::)

Was the cop cute?

One kinda was. The other one kinda wasn't.

That breakfast burrito was fantastic - I will be having that again, soon.  And they had a few other things on the menu that looked right up my alley.

And...

Time for me to start shutting down for the day.

Goodnight.
