Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the same and were old, and now it is time for you to post until the same old same old cows come home.

And the word of the day is: VULCANIZE!

Welcome sixty GUESTS. Who are you people?
-
Morning all.
That is all.

Friday!! Is a work day....Oh well.
I received my Dragon software but have not installed it yet.....the reviews on Amazon on neatly divided, so I am not sure that I will install it.
But.....the pathway to hell is paved with good intentions.....so they say.

Friday morning greetings! It's ver-r-r-ry cold here - 21o - but clear and sunny. I'm going to the Butler County National Philanthropy Day luncheon and this evening Richard and I and Rob and Mary Linda are going to the Meadows for a belated birthday celebration for Richard. Between those 2 events we hope to get to the Verizon store to see about iPhones...

Good morning, all! I've been playing on the computer since 7:30 or so. I had one weird dream last night that I was recording with Rebecca Luker and we had a difficult producer. Then, I dreamed I was driving in Middletown, OH, and my car skidded out of control on a road running off State Route 122.
In an hour I have to be at Rodgers & Hammerstein to look over my scores for my restoration of DEAREST ENEMY from 2002 and then have luch with Bruce Pomahac.

DVD: Lark Rise to Candleford, last two disks, THE GREEN, a film directed by my neighbor Steve Williford

RE: pedestrians and crosswalks.
They've been putting up signs here about $100 fines if you don't stop at a crosswalk (and someone wants to cross). Near where I love they had put up these big poles in the middle of the road (2 for a 3 lane street) and the $100 sign. That wasn't bad because you had to yield not to hit the poles.
But there are crosswalks (no light, just the yellow lines on the road and a big crosswalk sign posted beside it) now right on the turn onto the service road. And you can i guess be fined if you don't stop. But it is very dangerous for the driver. I'm always praying that nobody will be there trying to cross. Or that no cars will be behind me. Cars are going fairly fast and if you stop, i feel like there is a decent chance to get hit.
I stopped last week (no cars behind me) and i think the pedestrian was in shock.
About a month or two ago i was trying to walk my bike across and nobody would stop for me. Like 20 cars went by. I wasn't surprised. But they still should have stopped!

Good column today from Mr. Filichia.

Years ago the Victorian food writer Mrs Beeton came up with the idea of a cheap sandwich for the underprivileged and in these difficult economic times apparently it’s making a comeback. You toast a piece of bread, butter it and season it with salt and pepper. You then place the toast in the middle of two slices of plain bread and then you….....Oh, that’s it! You then munch away. Sound delicious doesn’t it….....or maybe not.
-
I've done the weekend shop but I won't say what meat I bought for the Sunday roast because I don't want to upset DR Jane.
Actually, although I like meat, I don't like the idea of eating animals either - I have to blank out those thoughts from my head. If I had to kill my own animals I would definitely be a vegetarian.
-
But.....the pathway to hell is paved with good intentions.....so they say.
It's TWOO, it's TWOO! It may not be actual hell, but it's close.
-
About a month or two ago i was trying to walk my bike across and nobody would stop for me. Like 20 cars went by. I wasn't surprised. But they still should have stopped!
Hold your hand out and start walking. Many drivers pretend that if you're just standing there you don't really want to cross or you would be crossing. It's a rationalization born out of a desire to do things their way instead of the legal way.
-
There was a heartbreaking story this week in The Oregonian about two recent Reed graduates who were killed while crossing in a crosswalk. Because the driver wasn't impaired, they declined to charge him, and the civil case went nowhere. Sad.

Bruce forgot that he had another luncheon date scheduled, so I am home earlier than expected. The good news of the day is that my reconstruction of the first Rogers & Hart musical comedy success, DEAREST ENEMY, is now going to be corrected and finished by spring of 2012, so that it can be a future recording project. I am very happy.

Let's get this page to turn.

It needs a little bit of help.

One more teensy-tinsy push.....

Voila!

I've gotten my first "real" cell phone. It arrived yesterday afternoon.
For the past five or six years, I've been using a Siemens CT-66 pay-as-you-go phone, but it died a miserable death a week ago.
I finally decided on a phone and a plan, and I have the HTC Thunderbolt 4G LTE Android phone through Verizon Wireless.
It's AWESOME!
It's SCARY!
It's FUN!

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm really getting tired of this "jacket required" weather out here in "Sunny California". Brrrrrrr... ::)
-
And... I woke up to another offer for some work. Alas, it's a show I'd like to work on, but I'm not sure I want to deal/work with some of the other "creatives" on board. However, it fits in perfectly into my existing schedule, so... We shall see...

I love that Manhattan song in "Dearest Enemy" where Hart rhymes the island's name with "nanny goats sat in." Those lyrics always make me laugh, especially when Cyril Richard sings them.

I suppose I'm up. What sleep I had was good, but those tree cutter people began with a buzz saw at seven-thirty. I think I managed to sleep another hour somewhere between then and now. It's still going on and when I go out to jog I'll be sure to thank them.

At a regular crosswalk i probably would have started walking. But this seems like such a dangerous place for a crosswalk. I wouldn't want the car to get hit by another car. So i just waited a minute and then crossed.
But the hand does seem like a good idea.

Back from a lovely National Philanthropy Day luncheon. My seating assignment was funny - I was put at the table with one of the honorees and his family whose name is Palmer. I'd called at the last minute to make the reservation and I guess the people making the table assignments assumed I was related to them.

I spent all of yesterday in Portland. We had a service for my Uncle Richie, who of course had requested not to have a service (!!).
It was a nice service at a military cemetery and it was good to see my cousins who I see only when we have a family funeral, which has thankfully been a rare event over the last few decades. But since all of our remaining parents are in their 80s...well, I suspect that I will be seeing all of them more often over the next 10 years of so.
-
By the way, the last day of my Los Angeles vacation was spent in Glendale. Downtown Glendale is so pretty and clean. I even stopped in at BK's bookstore of choice, BOOKFELLOWS....once they finally opened...the sign said they open at 11am...but nobody showed up until close to 1pm.

Very sad, but very true. All but one of my aunts and uncles have passed. My father had 8 brothers and sisters and spouses, they're all gone. Only my mother's younger sister and her husband remain. My aunt turned 80 this year.
So far, so good, but I DREAD those telephone calls.

Back from the four-mile jog and I'd better go grab something to eat before beginning work.

Thanks Ginny, Ron, and George, but I wasn't particularly close to Uncle Richie. My mom's siblings all lived in Portland, so we didn't see them that often when I was growing up..at least not often enough for me to get to know them, and Uncle Richie tended to keep to himself in later years since he was so hard of hearing.

Good Afternoon!
I took a nice walk around Glendale since I had to run a few errands. It's a very gray and cool day here. However, the forecast for next week is sunny and 70's, so... I'm also looking into extending my stay here in L.A. by a few days after "Lost and Unsung" closes especially since it would only cost my $65 to change my flight. Hmmm...

From DR Ginny:
Probably not, DR Jane, but she THINKS it will keep her from developing pneumonia. Her doctor is humoring her, I suspect.

A stupid Amazon vendor, who took their time responding to my requesst to return the wrong item they'd shipped, finally sent me an address. On Oct 20 I returned the wrong DVD via priority mail. Today, a month later, the US Postal Service returned to me the unopened package which the vendor never bothered to pick up at the post office. I want my refund and I want them dead. Now.

My mother made the best Shepard's pie. It was my absolute favorite dish. I used to make a vegetarian variation on this but of course it wasn't as good.
George Bernard Shaw was known to tie a live chicken to the chair of his guest saying if you want chicken you have to kill it yourself. I find this a bit at odds with the message he was sending. One of our early vegetarian cook books was from his recipes.

Back from a sandwich and no fries or onion rings, picking up a couple of packages but not the one I was expecting, and an important envelope, banking, and I've finished the liner notes and all that stuff and it's been sent to the designer. Hee, hee, you know that reminds me of a story from my vacation that I forgot to share.
It happened on one of my various jaunts in which I got myself lost...I forget where I was heading...I think it was to have lunch with BK...but I somehow took a wrong turn, which seemd so right at the time....driving into some sort of canyon I finally pulled into a park of some sort....well, this park turned out to be a cruising area (if you know what I mean, and I know some of you DRs know what I mean ;) )
There were several cars parked along this low fence. I got out and sat on the fence whilst trying to use my cell phone to figure out where the heck I was. I noticed each car had an occupant, and nobody was in the park except two truck drivers eating their lunch and a good looking guy jogging.
A young-ish gentleman got out of his pick-up and came over to me. He asked me a rather personal question....well, first he asked me if I was a cop, then when I said "no," he asked me the personal question.
I told him I was sorry that I couldn't oblige him at the moment, but that I was in rather a hurry to figure out how to get where I was going. He left and then a couple of other guys got out of their cars and started circling me, so I thought it was best to go back and sit in my car until I could figure out on my phone map app where and how to get where I needed to be. It was too much distraction and I was getting late. LOL!
Finally, I figured out how to get where I needed to go...wish I could remember the name of that park...it seems like it was out in the boondocks, but I know I was still in Burbank and somehow taking San Fernando Blvd is what got me there.
-
On an unrelated note, I am waiting to hear from my personal trainer to see if we are getting together this evening. We have a goal to reach.
-
Interesting story DR MBarnum. I'm glad you got out of the park ok.
-
It just stopped snowing. When I saw snow this morning I really didn't feel like returning the the pool, especially since I didn't feel well. The snow eased up on the way to the gym & I began feeling a bit better. By the time I got into the pool it felt good as I was able to stay about an hour.
I'm pleased to report I can still do a one armed crawl though it does hurt a little.
-
DR MBarnum - That's a great story. -Will you be sharing that with your niece or nephew any time soon? ;D

And...
I'm halfway through the one long chart I need to re-do/transpose, and I think I will leave it at for today. Now it's time to get ready to head in for rehearsal.

When I returned to Children's Services to work, 18 years ago, I was still a smoker and at the time we had a smoking room just down the hall from my desk. I soon befriended two women who were smokers and co-workers. The three of us got together a lot for lunch or dinner or for a visit to a casino in Tacoma. We always spent each of our birthdays together with dinner and gifts.
About 8 or 9 years ago, one of the women, Bernice, retired from the state. From that moment on, she wrote, the other woman, Diane and I off completely. We never knew what we had done. She still stayed in contact with several people in the office, and I never changed my work phone number, but she never contacted me. I ran into Bernice once, about five years ago. She was all hugs and kisses, and said that we needed to get together soon for dinner. I never saw her again.
Last week, one of my former co-workers called and told me that she had seen Bernice's name listed in the Vital Stats Death Notices, and she wanted to know if I knew anything about it. I tracked down the Death Certificate, found out what funeral home was handling the body, and found out that the memorial service was scheduled for tomorrow. Since then I have watched repeatedly for an obituary in the paper, but nothing. Her son is a member of the Puyallup Tribe, so he and his daughter get lots of money from the casino each month, so it isn't a matter of money. Her son has an unlisted phone number so no one has been able to reach him. Several of us decided that we were going to go tomorrow, regardless of hte strange circumstances.
Just now, they said on the news that it is supposed to snow here in Tacoma tomorrow morning. One of my co-workers called me just now and said that maybe Bernice really didn't want us to go to the service. She may now get her wish.
-
Such a sad story, TCB. I am sorry for your loss.
-
Not everyone wants notices in the paper, often to prevent burglaries. I argued for one when my father in-law passed away. He had recently closed his business & I thought customer's would want to know. The reasoning not to announce it was concern my mother in-law would be harassed by people wanting to swindle money out of her. When my father passed away my sister didn't want people at the funeral, which is my guess why when I wanted to call my parents oldest friend's she said "It is taken care of!" which it wasn't.
I'm sorry your friend decided to go her own way & you never got a chance to find out why.

Three dinners tonight: Indian, Middle Eastern and oyster bar. Middle Eastern was far and away the best. Nothing bad, though, which was a plus.

I'm sorry. It's very good. I love all the added dialogue, especially Carlotta/Elaine Page spitting out the line, "Men are so sweet."
I'm up to "One More Kiss." Wow.

I don't know if this recording of "Follies" will replace the original cast in my order of preference. I doubt anyone could replace most of those leads, but this is a definite second. Danny is the best Buddy I've ever heard. And Ron's version of "Too Many Mornings" breaks your heart, makes you hate Ben and makes you understand how lost he is all at once.

Well, back to the book. It's getting done, slowly but surely.
-
Thanks Ginny, Ron, and George, but I wasn't particularly close to Uncle Richie. My mom's siblings all lived in Portland, so we didn't see them that often when I was growing up..at least not often enough for me to get to know them, and Uncle Richie tended to keep to himself in later years since he was so hard of hearing.
Pardon?
:D
-
PAGE 4?? What's up with that?
-
That must be remedied immediately
-
Well as quickly as possible any way
-
I'm very glad it's Friday
-
Tonight Ricky and Boo were sitting together on my recliner....not touching of course, Boo wouldn't have that
-
Hello page 5, how are you today?
-
I had a busy week. A good week, but a busy week
-
Our local film/theater critic is having a bad week. He didn't like Fiddler (except for Tevye) and hated J Edgar. Ok a high schooler could have done the make-up better, but I thought it was a good movie. Not thrilling and exciting or sexy but this is J Edgar Hoover we're talking about, what do you expect
-
So who really wants to have the moves like Jagger?
-
I can't think of much to say today.
-
I would like snow
-
We may get some tomorrow, but it's going to be 41 degrees, so it will be gone as soon as it falls. I don't think that counts
-
Where is everyone?
-
Where is Prince Charming on his birthday? Probably already done celebrating it in Japan
-
Did anyone participate in National Unfriend Day?
-
Back for a mo. Thanks for picking up my slacking off, Cillaliz.
-
I want to see J. Edgar, but I really don't like Leonardo, so I'm a little leery despite the reviews.
-
You really have to try to overlook the REALLY REALLY REALLY bad make-up. I kid you not, it's distracting. But I thought the content was good. I learned some things about him that I actually came home and fact checked. The movie was correct about them
-
I thought Leonardo did a good job. I wouldn't give him an Oscar, but I thought he was good.
-
Ok, I wouldn't even give him a nomination.... and I did get in free ....
-
I will see it eventually, even if I have to wait for DVD. I read some bio of him that was filled with all sorts of hero worship and doggerel. I'd like to have a more balanced portrait, somewhere between Mary the drag queen and Dorothy Lamour's lover.
-
Night, all. I'm fading fast. It's been another long day.
-
OK, I know many of you will call me crazy for this, but there is going to be a FoxNews Republican Candidate debate in Sioux City on December 15. I just got two tickets. I don't really like any of them, but I think it will be fascinating to see them in person and see how the interact when the camera is off.
-
Cilla, I think it would be great fun to attend a Republican Debate, but then again I always am a pushover for good comedy. ;)
-
Jon Stewart's show last night had a great bit about all the Republican "front runners." Plus a great IV with Scorsese.
-
Well, as much as I'd like to take them seriously, it's really hard to do that. I do think it will be an interesting evening. I have 2 tickets. Finding someone to go with me may be a challenge.
-
You'd get a kick out of some of the commercials, I doubt you're seeing them all. Cain has one or two that end with this guy smoking a cigarette. He doesn't say anything just looks into the camera and smokes. What's up with that?
-
I haven't decided if I'm going to caucus this year or not. If I do, it will be a Republican caucus because the dem nominee is already chosen. If you're into the procedural side of politics at all, it's really amazing to me how differently the two parties caucus. The democrats all talk and try to convince you to come to their candidate and make deals, etc. I've only caucused as a Republican once before, but there were speeches by all the candidates, then you break into smaller groups and do a paper vote instead of physically moving into a group and showing who you support. The Democrats caucuses take hours. The Repubicans are much quicker. I didn't live here when I caucused for a republican - I'll be curious to see if it's the same way here this time.
I have been known to be a defensive caucuser. I go and vote for the candidate in the other party I fear the least. I do that in primaries too. LOL
-
And that's as political as I'm going to get. Truth is I think we should throw all the elected officials out and start over.
-
Well, I did add to the post total for today
-
This weekend I REALLY need to clean the house. I have other things to do, but man, this house needs to be cleaned. I need to go through my closet and donate a bunch of stuff to charity. Some things that don't fit I'll keep - I may lose weight sometime, but there are a lot of things I'll never wear again. It's time to get rid of them. That's the plan for tomorrow.
-
I better get some sleep. Tomorrow is already here and I haven't slept yet, lol.
-
But before I go
-
I can at least....
-
Get us to page 6
-
My work is done here. Night
-
My other plan for the weekend is to see Happy Feet 2. I love my movie pass.....
-
I will not see a Twilight movie
-
Ok, now I'm really leaving
-
Vibes to all who need or want them.
-
Finally home after what was a very good rehearsal, especially considering we were missing an actor for part of act one - but we had someone walk his track and he really doesn't do his big stuff till act two so all was well. We've shaved another couple of minutes off each act and I'm sure it will continue to get tighter as we run. All things considered, not too many lyric flubs tonight, which is heartening, and yours truly got through A Wonderful Life unscathed.

The patter seems to be working better now that it's more concise. I did change the staging of one number, and I'd say that number is still in danger of getting cut.
