what is the difference between the Nook Color and the Nook Tablet?

Jose - Um... I think there's a side-by-side comparison chart at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nook/379003208

From what I can tell, the main additional feature of the Tablet is the built in HD Hulu and Netflix streaming capabilities.

Read David Pogue's comments about it, though because the "HD" claims, according to Mr. Pogue, (a trustworthy source) are exaggerated.

DR TCB also asked why Canadian Thanksgiving is in October.  I looked it up and apparently:

Canada has an earlier harvest season than its neighbors to the south. Crops are usually all harvested by mid October therefore the celebration of Thanksgiving is during that month.  Many Canadian provinces also receive Remembrance day (November 11th) as a holiday. In order to break up the holidays, Thanksgiving was placed in October, between the two holidays Labour Day and Remembrance day.

There is also Canada's long association with Britain where the harvest cycle begins with Lammas Day (August 1st) ends at the autumnal equinox in late September. This time of year is associated with the celebration of bounty since the 6th century and is marked by church and laic celebrations

The weather here is getting weird. Today it is supposed to be 50s. But tomorrow it is supposed to be 30s. And we may even get our first snow this week. Not looking forward to that!  Looks like biking could potentially be done for the year, since today is supposed to be very windy and rainy. :(

Good morning, all! I am a bit depressed today. Last night I dreamed of my dad and my Uncle Bud. I can't say that I miss my uncle in the least but I do still miss my dad enormously, and after four and a half years the wound still bleeds.

I will watch the new Outside the Box episode when my Sunday morning music finishes in about an hour. I could use the laugh right now, though.

Today, I have work on ROBERTA and have a serious listen to the first CD of EILEEN.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes for Aunt Pearl and those in need today! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last night I caught a rerun of SEINFELD, a program I hadn't  seen in reruns in over a year. I just realized that I haven't seen the character that Kramer is based on biking around the nrighborhood in some time. In the early 1980s Jerry lived on West 81st Street, as I recall, and now he's over at Central Park West.
I went on YouTube earlier this morning and watched Danny Burstein's two big numbers from "Follies." Then I clicked on what I thought was the new "One Last Kiss." Turned out to be Joan Roberts, plus a long snippet of Blythe Danner as Phyllis. Danner is incredible. As bad as that production was supposed to be, I always thought she was a perfect choice for Phyllis, at least as an actress.
I'd posted this parody lyric of "Where Are The Snows" from I DO! I DO! in the Times comment box, and someone I trust emailed me that the parody was kind of nasty to jokingly say the show is one of the "straightest" hits of the 1960's.  I meant it as playful, but maybe someone who knows the show can tell me if I'm going too far before i try to record it?  I don't want to offend anyone.
Tune of “Where Are The Snows (of Yesteryear)” (from I DO! I DO!)
When they do shows of yesteryear
They keep our demographic clear
They must attract us gay folk, dear
Otherwise it won’t fly
When they do shows of yesterday
They keep in mind that new cliché
They’ve got to get the crowd that’s gay
We keep attendance high
Old shows are always there on the slate
Still it does seem
They tend to date
If they’re too straight
When they do shows of the classic set
This show may be the straightest yet
(But wait –)
Looks like it’s starring Bernadette!!!
That is a reason why
You bet, we’ll get / right on the net
We’ve really got to buy!
I've been seriously looking into which one to buy the Nook or Kindle. An IPad is too expensive for just being a reader.
I went to the B & N Botique last night and looked at Nook Color. (Tablet doesn't interest me)
Today I will go to Staples and look at the kindle, I'm leaning towrds the Nook because there larger selection of books, you can read books in the store. There is an yearly fee of $80.00 for the kindle if I understand what Pogue said in his article. B & N discounts their ebooks. You can join there B & N club for $25. They will put that towards the cost, but the club doesn't work on the ebooks.
I will make my decision after I go to staples
I'm up after nine hours of very needed sleep.  Glad to hear the nice comments about episode two.  Other than little nips and tucks in the set-up scenes for all the episodes, this one was the only one where I nipped and tucked the first and second numbers because it was running a minute longer and at seven and a half minutes I felt it just was overstaying its welcome.  So, we cut the entire intro to Showering My Troubles Away - it was good, but in the end I felt we should just get to it, and I cut the final verse of Nobody Here But Mother, even though it contains the punch line to the song, because I just felt we'd had the fun by the end of the bridge.  The editor totally agreed and had been thinking the same thing.  I do have the full versions of both and will probably start posting that stuff on the Outside The Box website, as soon as I get the time and finish everything else.
Great lyric. Fits in with a book I'm reading now, a bit of theatrical theory called "Something for the Boys." (I haven't read a book with that many typos in ages.)
BTW: When I think of leading men actors in the Robert Preston/Hal Linden mold, I always think of Martin Short. Whatever happened to Brian Stokes Mitchell? Too many flops?
Jrand, funny about the windows - normally I would not have shot the long way in that room, I would have shot the other way, as I have at Screenland here in LA, but I loved the look of the windows so we did that.  FJL posted on Talkin' Broadway - mostly positive responses, but naturally dcb, who I think we ALL know, had to come in, as always, and make a disparaging comment, and one other guy said he didn't like it because he saw the original movie during its original run.  I don't really understand his point - it's almost as if he took the clip seriously.  You would think dcb, who I think we ALL know, would get tired of this crap, but apparently this crap is what dcb lives for - every waking minute of every waking day.
Episode two is up and running.
Bravo!  That is even funnier than the first episode.  Who is the piano player?  I am in love lust.
The piano player is Brandon Uranowitz, who'll be back with us when we shoot the NY season two episodes.  He was in Baby, It's You with Barry Pearl and is a great guy and very funny.  Funnily, he doesn't actually play the piano.
I've not known such a foggy day for a long time. It makes everything very still and quiet. The nearby airport is having to divert and delay flights.
I thought it was always foggy in London town.
However, I did get good amount of sleep, but I think I could use some more. The past week really caught up with me last night. I kept trying to stay awake to watch SNL, but I think I ended up dozing off every other skit. I also didn't hear my friends/hosts come in last night, nor did I hear them walk their dog. Oh... And I fell asleep on the couch too. Whew!
I loved the Episode 2!
And then I found on youtube clips from the Chicago Light Opera Works production of THE GOLDEN APPLE with a good cast and a full orchestra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1khi-gxI-c&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
It's great hearing the full Act one Finale and Judgment of Paris, which are cut on the OBC.
Thank you. Hope to catch that later.
I guess there is a reason why I have never heard the score before.
I thought it was always foggy in London town.
It used to be up to the '60s.... and no film set in London up to then looked authentic unless the streets were shown full of fog.  The thick fogs were known as "smogs" or "pea-soupers" but, over time, they disappeared when clean air laws were brought it to ban the use of smoky coal. I remember leaving the cinema in the late '50s with my sister and finding a thick fog had descended in the late afternoon. All the trains and buses had stopped running and we had to walk several miles to get home - which took a long time because we could only see about three feet in front of us. One advantage of the smog was that at school we were often allowed to go home early before the buses stopped or before we couldn't see our way home.
what is the difference between the Nook Color and the Nook Tablet?
Jose - Um... I think there's a side-by-side comparison chart at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nook/379003208
From what I can tell, the main additional feature of the Tablet is the built in HD Hulu and Netflix streaming capabilities.
Read David Pogue's comments about it, though because the "HD" claims, according to Mr. Pogue, (a trustworthy source) are exaggerated.
Nook Tablet (http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/17/nooks-specs-are-exaggerated-again)
Oh, by the way,
Morning all.
That is all.
I've been seriously looking into which one to buy the Nook or Kindle. An IPad is too expensive for just being a reader.
I went to the B & N Botique last night and looked at Nook Color. (Tablet doesn't interest me)
Today I will go to Staples and look at the kindle, I'm leaning towrds the Nook because there larger selection of books, you can read books in the store. There is an yearly fee of $80.00 for the kindle if I understand what Pogue said in his article. B & N discounts their ebooks. You can join there B & N club for $25. They will put that towards the cost, but the club doesn't work on the ebooks.
I will make my decision after I go to staples
I wish there were stores I could go to look at a kindle. I think the only way to get it here (they will ship to canada) is to order it thru amazon.com. I wish amazon.ca sold them. But from amazon.com there i a large duty and shipping charge.
I can't imagine that there is an $80/year fee for a kindle.
I think one consideration on nook vs kindle is if you plan to buy a lot of ebooks ... where do you want to buy them from?
The only ereaders we can get here are kobos (chapters). I'm not sure though how it works if we want to buy books from amazon (if it's possible).
What did you buy me?
I actually didn't buy anything. Although my sister bought me some fudge (i love fudge).
My niece got this fancy pencil. A lady made a fancy girl that sits on the eraser of the pencil.
My niece loved it as soon as she saw it. My sister told her she could have one thing from the fair but she needed to look at everything first.
The whole time she was saying that i was thinking "um do you know your daughter ... she is so coming back for that pencil!" :)
My wonderful local bookstore is now selling ebooks from their website.  So far the prices have been comparable to Amazon & Barnes & Noble.  These are nice people who own the store & treat their employees well so I plan to purchase my books from them when possible.
I'm surprised that so many States allow the use of hand held phones while driving. In the UK it's completely illegal. There have been numerous cases of drivers causing accidents and deaths due to them being on the phone or texting. Mind you, it doesn't stop people - I see drivers all the time here using hand held phones.
Back from delivering a big box o' CDs and some lunch.  I shall now relax a little - still raining heavily, which is kind of nice, actually.  We now have at least one of our obligatory "dislikes" on the video - and I think we can all guess who was kind enough to leave it.
What's so amazing to me always is that FJL posts something positive - people agree, but some folks can't help but go in and trumpet how they don't.  Why?  It's fine not to like something but why go into a thread that's positive to do so?  Just to be negative?  My response, if I cared to make one, which I don't, would be the same as FJL's - some find things funny, some don't.  Who cares?  That's the way it's been with comedy since the year One.  Some people find Adam Sandler funny - I don't.  But I don't really feel the need to go into every pro-Adam Sandler thread and thread crap.  But that's the Internet.  And, of course, we know who at least one of those threadcrappers is.
Jrand, funny about the windows - normally I would not have shot the long way in that room, I would have shot the other way, as I have at Screenland here in LA, but I loved the look of the windows so we did that.  FJL posted on Talkin' Broadway - mostly positive responses, but naturally dcb, who I think we ALL know, had to come in, as always, and make a disparaging comment, and one other guy said he didn't like it because he saw the original movie during its original run.  I don't really understand his point - it's almost as if he took the clip seriously.  You would think dcb, who I think we ALL know, would get tired of this crap, but apparently this crap is what dcb lives for - every waking minute of every waking day.
I received a private message saying that the poster on all that chat is not who I think it is.  Of course, I have no way of knowing whether that's true or not since it's not my site - I only know when "dcb" showed up there, and the fact that whomever that really is began coming after me immediately.  And it was soon after the FSM 3D showed up - so the conclusion on my part certainly made sense at the time.  Whatever it is it is and there's nothing to be done about it.  It is the way it is on the Internet.  If someone doesn't like you they can just follow you around and try to cause as much havoc as they can.  Whether it's the same person doing it or a handful, the result is the same.  If it's not 3D then it's not - and I only wish whoever it is the same sort of treatment someday.  Anonymity is a wonderful thing - it enables anyone to say anything about anyone or anything without having to sign their name to their writing.  Got something to say to me - say it to me and sign your name.  That does level the playing field, as you might imagine.  So, if dcb is a separate entity, get off your cowardly ASS and tell us who's doing the writing.
I did look at dcb's postings on ATC - and I don't think it is 3D....it has her tone but is not quite the wacky syntax she uses.
Since I do use my cell phone from time to time while driving, I'm glad to see this info:
Cell Phone and Texting Laws (http://www.iihs.org/laws/cellphonelaws.aspx)
Thank you.  Bryan called from his cell while driving through Ohio on his way to an interview in Pittsburgh.  The reception was so bad he switched to holding the phone & said he wouldn't get a ticket.  I guess he was right.  I'm surprised how many states don't have a ban.  I find using a bluetooth more complicated & distracting than holding my cell while driving.
Really?
The bluetooth is always falling off & doesn't always work well.  I have had multiple styles & they have all been annoying enough that I eventually stop using them.  I try to remember to take it when I'll be on the freeway & can't pull over to use the phone.
LOL Ginny, I don't know about you but I am not capable of driving & texting.  I am very slow at texting even when I'm not doing anything else.
I must confess that I have only sent three or four text in my life.  I don't like it.
I had to get the hang of texting as Bryan responds faster to texting when he is working.
After brunch with my friends, I had them drop me off at The Americana which is the big outdoor mall here. Well, after walking around there for a while I headed across the street to the Galleria, a.k.a. The Indoor Mall. It was quite packed.
I walked around there for a while, and then ended up in Target. I bought some socks, flannel sleep pants, gloves and a fleece jacket. Frankly, I'm still sort of troubled that I had to buy some "Winter" clothes in "sunny, Southern California". ::)
The situation with the Chitty signed booklets is baffling to me.  I gave them to the helper in strict order with the EXCEPTION of anyone from this site who ordered.  Because I hadn't gotten the notice up in advance as I always do, I said everyone here would get one.  I asked her if she'd reorganized by time and she said no, but nothing else makes sense, because I personally moved the orders from regulars into the first 100 and since we actually had 150 signed I just don't get what happened.  However, Jrand and Matthew will get theirs (George already got his) because we had five left over.
Saw on CNN they arrested a person for terrorism  in NYC. I'm glad that they caught this guy before he was able to carry out his plot.
But I don't understand why in the new conference they explain how they got him and what he did to get caught.
This just tells people what not to do to get caught in planning terrorism in the future.
I went to Staples to see what the Kindles are like and compare the to the Nook, Staples sells both of them. Unfortunately they only have demos and none are "practical" ones that you can try them.
I decided to go with a Color Nook and bought mine today at B & N. I looked over the touch before deciding on the Color.
I have 14 days to see if it is the right e-reader for me.
I would have like to have had the opportunity to have tried a practical Kindle.
It is definitely bizarre. I would also stay away from someone i disliked. It does not seem normal to constantly go out of your way to bother someone you dislike. Even if that person did you harm (which in this case isn't even the case).
Back from Vitello's.  Without elaborating, I'll just say oy and vey.  Everything you never EVER want to do in an act was done.  I'd been asked to direct this show and I just didn't have time and I would have ultimately said no anyway, but someone should have given some guidance.  The performer asked me several times, and I had intended to at least watch a rehearsal or help him with song order, but the LACC show and getting the episodes finished and prepping releases and a million other things kept me from ever being able to do it.
Since I do use my cell phone from time to time while driving, I'm glad to see this info:
Cell Phone and Texting Laws (http://www.iihs.org/laws/cellphonelaws.aspx)
Thank you.  Bryan called from his cell while driving through Ohio on his way to an interview in Pittsburgh.  The reception was so bad he switched to holding the phone & said he wouldn't get a ticket.  I guess he was right.  I'm surprised how many states don't have a ban.  I find using a bluetooth more complicated & distracting than holding my cell while driving.
I have a bluetooth earpiece and I love it.  It just rests on my my ear and is very convenient.  I used to have a bluetooth speaker that I hung on my visor, but it wasn't very good and not very loud.
Jose - Um... I think there's a side-by-side comparison chart at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nook/379003208
From what I can tell, the main additional feature of the Tablet is the built in HD Hulu and Netflix streaming capabilities.
Read David Pogue's comments about it, though because the "HD" claims, according to Mr. Pogue, (a trustworthy source) are exaggerated.
Nook Tablet (http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/17/nooks-specs-are-exaggerated-again)
Oh, by the way,
Morning all.
That is all.
I've been seriously looking into which one to buy the Nook or Kindle. An IPad is too expensive for just being a reader.
I went to the B & N Botique last night and looked at Nook Color. (Tablet doesn't interest me)
Today I will go to Staples and look at the kindle, I'm leaning towrds the Nook because there larger selection of books, you can read books in the store. There is an yearly fee of $80.00 for the kindle if I understand what Pogue said in his article. B & N discounts their ebooks. You can join there B & N club for $25. They will put that towards the cost, but the club doesn't work on the ebooks.
I will make my decision after I go to staples
What yearly fee of $80 for the kindle??  I haven't heard anything about any $80 yearly fee.
