Well, you've read the notes, the notes were insane and then stopped being so, and now it is time for you to post until the insane cows come home - I think they call it mad cow disease.
-
And the word of the day is: PANEGYRIZE!
-
Morning all. Bright, sunny day but very cold.
-
The squirrels have been busy lately. They take the nuts which I leave on the outside table and then go around the garden burying them, destroying the plants in the process. I wonder whether they find the ones they've buried?
-
Ken Russell, one of the most distinctive and controversial British film directors of all time has died at the age of 84.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Three days left at the office then done until January 3rd.
-
We're having dinner tonight with friends from Middlesborough. The got to the city on Wednesday when we were on Long Island and they have been enjoying the "madness" of Times Square. They will come down to our neighborhood and we will have dinner and a catch up and then they will go back uptown to see a show and they head back tomorrow.

Oatmeal with dried cherries, walnuts, cinnamon and coffee.

T'was a beautiful day in Manhattan yesterday, sunny and in the 60s. I had brunch with some college friends and then we walked the High Line.
The HL was crowded because of the beautiful weather. As nice as the HL can be, when it's crowded it's not so much fun.
-
Good morning, all! I'm up early, trying to get back to my old schedule of 6:30am-10:30pm. We'll see. It was another night of bizarre dreams: one dealt with a visit from a friends who has been dead for nearly 20 years, one was about a child in a hospital and a terrifying lady representing a church who was trying to kill him, and I've now forgotten the one I was dreaming when the alarm went off.
Last night I had a good conversation with the Man from Philadelphia; he's very very happy with the recording of EILEEN and that was good news indeed.
I have lots of work to accomplsh today with THE RED MILL, so I will be out of here very shortly.
-
Monday morning greetings! It's pouring rain here in SW Ohio, but I have to go out for a blood test and to do some banking at Mom's retirement community with her and my sister. After that, my sister and her husband will be on the road to their home in Michigan, so we're glad it's not cold enough for this to be snow.
-
I am sorry to hear about director Ken Russell's death. Perhaps we'll see some new DVD releases.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Off to the
vampire's blood lab and then to catch up with my sister for breakfast - bye for now!
-
Oh, thanks to DR Cillaliz for the birthday wish for Mom!
Bye for NOW!
-
Yeah, sorry to hear about Ken Russell, as Doug R posted earlier. But I agree with you, Elmore, perhaps this will result in more releases of his movies.
-
DR DougR, I don't know how I missed your post about Ken Rssell! I can only blame myself for not being entirely awake.
And now I'm off to RED MILL chores.
-
Alabama's foolish new anti-immigration law is getting the state into a mess. What a nice thing to know!

Belated Happy Birthdays to Dr divarobbie and DR Ginnys' Mom!
-
Thanks to all for the travel vibes. I may need more since my flight is delayed.
-
I got to the airport and looked at the monitors showing flight information. Of all the flights listed, mine was the only one marked "delayed!"
The agent just announced that we should be arriving shortly after 11 instead of 10:09 (assuming we take off as (re)scheduled). The plane is on its way from Boston. I hope the weather will hold out. They skies are looking pretty gray right now.
-
Speedy boarding vibes to KevinH !!!!
-
DR DougR, I don't know how I missed your post about Ken Rssell! I can only blame myself for not being entirely awake.
That's OK. I know the feeling!
-
I print my own postage online but, following some eBay sales, I've got some bulky packages which won't fit in the street mailbox so I'm off to the post office for a change. After that it's on to the city to meet up with Steve for drinks and a meal.

Monday!

We lost a team on TAR last night......sad to see them go.

I always thought Ken Russell was an over the top director; pushing the envelope to see far he go.
I enjoyed:
The Boy Friend (the most A typical of all friends)
Tommy (his visual style worked very well with material)
Altered States
The original musical videos for The Phantom of the Opera; Wishing You Were Still Here Again & the title song
His strangest films that I've seen

There's a really excellent boxed set of Russell's early BBC television stuff available, part of that same series that had sets on Maggie Smith, etc.

In yet another example of how far outside of the preferred demographic I have become, I am reviewing a set of "party demos" that amateur programmers do on their computers to show their programming/graphics skills. This has evidently been going on since the Atari age, but I had never heard of it. I did my very first studio MIDI work on an Atari. ;)

I did it again (screwed up while quoting)!

It's a lovely day today.

I keep seeing promos for a new series called I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER and it looks really bad......lame writing and some really bad comedy "acting."
And I am starting to see promos for Debra Messing's new show - I am intrigued by the format, but I don't think I can watch it.

If BK and/or JR have a few extra thousand lying around department: I've been browsing through the two MAMMOTH Profiles in History auction catalogs that came last week. There is some absolutely amazing stuff. For BK, in the Icons of Animation catalog, there is a rare Eyvind Earle advertising illustration for WEST SIDE STORY (!!). I don't think it was ever used. For JR, there is the original art for the cover of the ANNETTE COLORING BOOK.
-
I've mentioned this before, but Profiles in History must shell out some SERIOUS cash in producing these catalogs. They're always hundreds of pages, on glossy stock with copious photos.

Just about anything but "Absence of Malice," and that for the pure reason that Hollywood's shorthand for journalism is silly. Thought the acting (except for Balaban) was fine, but if it had been a true depiction of journalism, well, the audience would have been bored.

Excellent lab result vibes for DR Ginny!!
Thanks, DR Jane! My INR has been wonky ever since we returned from Europe and the doctor has been adjusting my Coumadin dosage and having me go more frequently for tests. I had one last Wednesday and had not yet heard the results as of last evening when I experienced spontaneous and profuse bleeding of the gums :P (maybe TMI?). I called my doctor's answering service and he called back right away. When I told him I hadn't yet taken yesterday's Coumadin he said, "DON'T!" and told me to eat some broccoli for the Vitamin K. He also said if that didn't control the bleeding I should go to the ER. I wasn't sure until about 1:30am that we weren't going to the hospital, but things seem to have settled down. The doctor also said to have another blood test this morning.
So, when I got home, of course, Richard said his office had called with last Wednesday's results/instructions. Now the big question is - will they figure out that, yes, I have had a subsequent test or will they dismiss today's results thinking the lab got confused?

In fact when I stopped on it for a moment, I exclaimed to DW Wife Betsy that she needed to take a gander at the completely odd dress Mitzi Gaynor was wearing as it looked like there was ruffled growth emanating from her bosom.

It's been a long long day, but I did manage to photocopy the entire edited vocal score and to scan the first act vocal scores and full scores to the copyists. Tomorrow I do the same for all of the full scores for ROBERTA that are ready to go.

I haven't seen Joe and Jaston for years. It was backstage during the Broadway run of A TUNA CHRISTMAS. They are really amazing. When I was working on BABES IN TOYLAND in 1991 in Huston, they were staying in my housing and I'd run into them all the time on the elevator, usually when Jaston was walking his dog. I also loved the HBO 1985 special of GREATER TUNA.
Why do I keep thinking there's a third Tuna show?

DR Cilla, how are you doing? You tried so hard to find out what was wrong with Phoebe though I know in your heart you feared what has happened.
I'm ok. I knew when I left it was going to be the last time I saw her, although Mom insisted it wouldn't be. It almost seemed like she'd had a stroke, her whole right side didn't work very well. I believe it was either from the abcess behind her eye or that there was a tumor there. All her symptoms were consistent with what the vet described. This morning mom said she couldn't keep the right side of her mouth closed and she fell down when walking (she's been doing that since last week). She wasn't responding to the antibiotics at all. She ate and ate and ate but still lost weight. It was just time. I'm sad about it, she was a sweet little thing.

Thanks everyone for your vibes, thoughts, prayers and kind words.

I'm wondering why someone would pre-order an ebook. Why give them your money when you can receive the book the same day you order it, once it has been released.
I missed the first part of what you're responding to (like where they ordered it from). But don't they just take your money when they deliver it?
And isn't pre-ordering an e-book similar to pre-ordering a regular book? You get the price you like. And then you don't forget about it.
-
I didn't have a first part to my statement. I get pre-ordering a book so it is shipped at the earliest possible date. An ebook just downloads, no shipping required. The price shouldn't change, unless I'm mistaken.
I'm 4th in the queue at the library for this book that is released on Dec. 13th. If I decide I want to get it sooner to take to Tahiti with us I might purchase it. Chances are I'll look for something else.
You could be right about the money & not charging me until later. It seems more convenient to pre-order but what if I lose my Nook & still have to pay for a book I can't read? ;D

G'night!

You could get a new Nook and update your account to that. I assume that B&N keeps copies of everything that you order (like Amazon.com with Kindle) so that you can redownload onto a new device, if something like that happens.

I am now off to a TAO Publicity Committee Meeting. I don't know how I got roped into being on this committee, though. ::)
Be back later. ;D

I could but I don't know what I would want next time.

Good evening. Thanks again for all the vibes and thoughts about Phoebe. Dad is taking it pretty hard. He got a shot in the back this morning and they took Phoebe in as soon as they got back to town. And of course his TV keeps cutting out. I think I found a fix on the net, he's going to try it next time it happens. Since he's a former dixieland trombone player, I sent him the jazz for cows videos. Don't know if that will make him smile. And of course his TV keeps cutting out. Nook keeps all your books online and you can even archive them. You can download them to a computer or even your phone. Sometimes you can get a book on sale. Then it would be worth pre-ordering. Or, sometimes I want to order something while I'm thinking about it.
-
My sister posted on facebook that she had no idea Phoebe was sick. Good grief what planet was she on when she was at mom and dad's.

Thanks. Does it say sale price so you know what it will cost later? From my computer can I download the book to the iPad?

Maybe she didn't want to acknowledge it.

Back from a rehearsal that was better than it had any right to be. I have never in all my years in the business done a show wherein the company has had five days off before their dress/tech. Ridiculous and NEVER again. But everyone was pretty much on top of things, save for two horrible lyric flubs by the same performer in act two - I was calm about it, but strong - I completely understand someone going up on a line or lyric but to stand there immobile and freeze is not the way to handle it - you can't ever let the audience know. If this were a cabaret show, sure, make a deal out of it - but here, one must cover or one looks like a complete twit. Some energy was off, but overall we got through it with no stops - the lighting was good - after we adjusted a few cues and so all that should be smoother for our final dress/tech. I was also not happy with the music we were using for the curtain call, so we ran it with a few different choices and I finally found the one I liked and it did exactly what I wanted - the company now sings the final line of the song as the button to the bows.
Jose's playing was very strong for the most part - just a few things were off and I'm sure he'll be working those out. So, what could have been a disaster wasn't. Whew!

Thank You, bk. And after I get another good hour or so on the new piano tomorrow, I should "very strong for the all part".
*I also need to remember to have some sort of snack and caffeine during intermission. Even I wasn't sure what I was doing during parts of the last two numbers. ::)

Did everyone else already know that Indiana was part of the United States?
I thought that only applied during Daylight Savings Time. ???

DR Jane - When you pre-order a book or CD or DVD from Amazon, you lock in that pre-order price which is usually lower than the eventual sale price. Additionally, you are not charged for the item until it ships. *And I also know that if the price drops on the day of the official release date, Amazon will honor that price.

And now...
To sleep.
Goodnight.

Just before I went to post the notes, Time Warner went down. I called and was told they have a schedulled six hour maintenance. I completely lost it and used my tired voice more than I should have. How dare them not let their customers know in advance! So no notes until I get up in the morning.
