Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a strange excitement and smelled, and now it is time for you to post until the smelly cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CORTEGE!
-
Good morning to all
-
Sometimes the "like" button on Facebook is used in my opinion in poor taste. I am sure they didn't mean that way, but it sure looked like it at first. DR MBarnum posted that Susan Gordon had passed and his remembrances of the time they knew each other, At least two peopled "liked" the posting, but it seems to me that it makes it look like that they liked that Susan had died. Maybe I'm being over sensative, but couldn't they have just posted something instead?

I agree with you. I find it tacky. But is there another way to register sympathy and not leave a message?

And the word of the day is: CORTEGE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: A PARADE IN TOWN
-
Gee I feel rough today. Must be that terrible steak I had last night - or too much beer to go with it!
-
The season's not feeling so much like Christmas season this year. I'm not sure why.
-
Maybe it'll kick in next week.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late. Around 3AM, I had terrible indigestion and needed to take some meds, I then had a long dream involving my being on a theatre tour with a young Judi Dench, Tom Conti, a long walk and a stop for refreshments. There was a taxi ride, too.
I am a bit melancholic today: this would have been my dad's 90th birthday. He's been dead for four years, but so much has happened in my life since Feb 2007 that it seems forty years ago.
Today, I have plenty of work here: DEAREST ENEMY, ROBERTA scores to be assembled - this job will go on for several weeks! - and a lot of German lyrics for the Victor Herbert lieder waiting for diacritical markings.
Hopefully my last invoice check will arrive today and I can finish my Christmas shopping.
-
Christmas vibes for DR FJL.
Happier vibes for DR ELMORE.....remember that this is the year the wonderful Appalachian Christmas was produced!!!
-
I remember Karma.....and the people that definitely did use it negatively and then DENIED that they did.....none of whom are around anymore.....at least as active posters....BUT I REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE.
-
Dear BK,
I have had that Mac spinning thing since the first time I turned on this computer. I have always complained about it and wondered what in the world everyone was raving about when they talked about Macs.
-
Those of us who use PCs never have to deal with your little spinning Mac thing.
(We have little Windows spinning things to deal with instead).

Christmas vibes for DR FJL.
Happier vibes for DR ELMORE.....remember that this is the year the wonderful Appalachian Christmas was produced!!!
Thanks, DR JRand61! We've got production meetings a week from Friday, so let's hope the Appalachian Christmas stays wonderful and makes a lot of folk happy next Christmas!

I'm up and will be on my way to the Cinerama Dome shortly. I was so tired when writing the notes that I got the time wrong.

Did I say "Stick 'em up"? I meant, "Please don't hurt me" Department (http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-12-05/news/chi-robber-tussles-with-martialarts-expert-gets-beaten-and-shot-20111205_1_arts-robber-burglary-cases)

Well, my day's already undergoing change: my letter of permissions from Rodgers & Hammerstein has arrived, so I can go to the NYPL and have photocopies made of the scores for "The Pipes of Pansy." I'll get there at noon, put in the request and pick the copies up on Friday.
-
This is sort of a first for me:
Aside from THE HELP, which I watched last week on DVD, and MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, which I have and I'll probably watch tonight, I have not seen any of the movies that are in contention for this year's Oscars.
:o
[I'm avoiding THE TREE OF LIFE because, I'm told, as beautiful as it may be visually, it's really very boring to sit through.]
I don't go to movie theaters any more, and, frankly, I'm in no hurry to see these pictures. I can wait for the DVDs.
:o
I guess that's what happens when you leave Los Angeles. I will have been in Austin for 3 years this coming April.
:-\
-
It'll be interesting to know what this 70mm footage is. Holiday in Spain didn’t open in London in Cinerama until 1966. I didn’t see it because I was working away from London at the time and it only played for a few weeks.

"The Pipes of Pansy."
I must assume this is the sequel to Chee-Chee.

"The Pipes of Pansy."
I must assume this is the sequel to Chee-Chee.
You're old enough to know what happens to those who assume. "The Pipes of Pansy" did not end up in CHEE-CHEE, although it could have. It was a song that Rodgers & Hart tried to put into the scores for at least four shows - SHE'S MY BABY, DEAREST ENEMY, PEGGY-ANN, and THE GIRL FRIEND - and only out-of-yown audiences ever heard it. I don't think the song's ever been recorded.

I will be most interested to hear MR BK's report on what transpires at the Cinerama Dome.

Wednesday morning greetings! I slept past 10am, which is very late for me.
-
BK, have you tried going under the Safari menu and emptying the cache? Also, so you clear your history frequently? I find doing both of those things reduces the frequency of the spinning beachball.

DR Elmore - I hope your fond memories of your Dad sustain you today. {{{{{Hugs}}}}}

One's a surgical prcedure, the other's slang or a slur term for a less-than-masculine-appearing man. Don't get it.

This runs a little long, but I thought DR Elmore, especially, would like to see it. It's the Middletown city employees' holiday video, featuring many familiar faces. The police detective in the yellow tie is the husband of a friend of mine and the city attorney played Charlie Brown when I played Lucy:

And you don't think he's still assaying the role?

From DR Jrand:
DR JANE - I loved your story of your reconnection with Susan!!!
It was funny. I think we were both surprised we briefly stared at each other. After that we had a mini reunion at Roxbury Park. Penny was there along with other friends I called & some that Susan called. We both got to see people we hadn't seen in a long time. Keith was there too.

DR Ginny, nice wrapping table. It reminds me I need to wrap the few gifts I'm giving.

From DR Jennifer:
DR Jane, I finally found someone who lives in Canada who is answering my kindle questions. I found a kindle group on goodreads. And goodreads allows you to actually email the person (vs amazon where there were tons of people in Canada i just cannot figure out a way to just email the person).
Perfect! I have too many books at the moment or I would explore the current one you are reading. I wish my ebook library queue had the ability to put a hold on the holds like my regular library queue does.

I know what you mean. FB truly needs a dislike or unhappy or sad button.

Thanks, DR Jane! I spent several hours at that table last night - cleaning, sorting, and getting 3 packages ready to take to the post office today. Next project: getting dear niece/goddaughter Lauren's graduation and Christmas presents ready to deliver at her open house on Saturday. Also, I need to wrap some presents to put under the tree, because the only ones there right now are for me. Santa Richard has been busy....

I am sometimes unsure whether to "like" a posting like the one you described. But in this case i think they were "liking" his remembering of a wonderful lady.

I'm not sure that DIVERGENT would be your cup of tea anyways. But I would recommend it DR JMK's wife as she loved the Hunger Games (if i remember correctly). If you liked the Hunger Games I think you would like Divergent.

ER trip at 2 am = admitted In the hospital again. Possibly for a few days. Possibly for surgery. Saying things about a diverticulum causing a partially obstructed bowel. Hurts like a mother. Oh joy.

DR Jane, so far the woman from Canada with a kindle is really helping me. She suggested a few things that i had already thought of. But when you don't know for sure, it is so much better to have an actual person tell you.

I have had many warm responses from my school classmates regarding the sad news of Susan. Flip Mark, as I knew, was very affected by the news. He sent us a photo of Flip & Susan together at an autograph show. I believe she encouraged him to do the show with her. After we graduated high school they went on the World Campus Afloat together.

Jane, how old is her youngest child?

I'm thinking he recently graduated high school, close to that age anyway though I could be completely off. Definately too young to be losing his mother & they were very close.

Back from the Cinerama Dome - very interesting. They'd found five small reels of 70mm Scent Of Mystery (they have found a complete 70mm print of the original version but it's completely faded and has no sound). The first reel was the opening of the film, but the mag track had been erased or what they call degaussed. Even completely faded, it looked amazing, but it was no different than the Holiday in Spain opening. However, at the end of that reel was one of the cut scenes. Then there was a second reel of reel one and that did have sound and so that missing scene can either be cut back in the film or included as an extra should this ever actually get released. I've spoken about the possibility of us releasing it and I was about to write that proposal when my dear friend Nick Redman's partner in Twilight Time did his own - this does not make me happy and I do not like unnecessary gluttony (and I'm sure Nick doesn't know) - they have hundreds of titles to release and don't need something as marginal as Holiday In Spain for heaven's sake. I'll be talking to Nick about this later. The rest of the reels' sound had also been degaussed - and there was only one other missing scene so that could be included sans sound - plus one of the reels had the original intermission point (it was changed to a much worse place in Holiday In Spain) and it had the original intermission card, so that will get transferred to.

Back from the post office. When I arrived there were only 2 people ahead of me in line. When I left, the line extended all the way to the door and one of my AAUW friends was at the end of it. She'll be there a while...

But I brought back page 3 from the PO!

Thank you, all, for the hugs and good wishes! My day is going quite well: I've ordered my NYPL photocopies, and I'm home and ready to work on rebuilding a score from ROBERTA. I also learned from New World Records that ArkivMusic.com has selected the Herbert Cello-Piano set as one its highlighted recordings. Very good.

Perhaps you're wrong. Castration dosn't equal effeminacy; it just equals a high pitched voice, depending at what age it occurred.

I'm up, I'm up... And I have soooo much to do before I head down to Virginia on Friday morning.

But I am getting those things done. So, that's a good thing.

And, yes, I'm still dealing with the jet lag, but I managed to get out of bed without hitting the snooze button too many times this morning before I headed down to the studio to get some more practicing in.

Quote of the day at the office:
"Karma doesn't work downstairs."
-
After my practice session this morning - which went well, I guess :-\ - I headed up to my storage unit to pull some winter clothes. I could not locate my favorite sweaters - the ones I bought in Australia - but I was able to pull some other sweaters, scarves and gloves. I'm wondering if I already pulled my Australian sweaters, or if had somehow given them away in one of my textile recycling purges. In any case...
I was also trying to pull some sheet music for a friend of mine. She's putting together a cabaret evening of Poulenc songs in February. I easily found my boxes of Classical Vocal Music, but there was only one collection of Poulenc songs in the box - and I know I have many others. It's not the end of the world, but, of course, now I'm wondering if I just mis-filed the other collections or if I loaned them out to someone years ago and just never got them back. 'Tis a sorta-puzzlement.

And Homer Simpson explains karma:
Apu: I have come to make amends, sir. At first, I blamed you for squealing, but then I realized, it was I who wronged you. So I have come to work off my debt. I am at your service.
Homer: You're selling what, now?
Apu: I am selling only the concept of karmic realignment.
Homer: You can't sell that! Karma can only be portioned out by the cosmos.
Apu: He's got me there.
-
Maybe it's Karma, Jose.

Maybe it's Karma, Jose.
Maybe.
Or just my jet lag.

I just talked on the phone with my Mother. She's much more relaxed now that we have her finances straightened out. The lesson we learned on Monday is that if you have business to do with Social Security and have an office nearby, go in person instead of trying to deal with them over the phone.

I, on the other hand, am back from getting something to eat and am now awaiting the arrival of the fellow who will install the new all-region Blu and Ray player.

That sounds like fun. Heck, just the sounds of watching TV sounds fun. Maybe once the semester ends Monday I can kick back. (I thought it was Friday, but I heard that I have actually a couple of extra days.)

I think Tony had probably the most phenomenal breath control of any pop singer back in his prime. When I hear him on ballads like "Maybe September," my breath is taken away.

I received a beautiful gift box today from A&E. I thought initially it was fruitcake, but it's actually a nice variety of wonderful dessert pastries, including what looks like some delish brownies.

I hope they realize that doesn't mean I'm going to love Ice Road Truckers. :)

Last night we were all feeling rather down & not in the mood to cook for our company. It perked us up to go out to a nice restaurant for dinner.
Tonight, without an excuse, we ordered food in. Craig is picking it up & should return about the same time our company, sweet Eli's mother, arrives.. She had to work in Grants Pass today & then make a stop at Toys R Us for a Christmas gift she will give her niece at breakfast tomorrow.

Someone just sent me an hilarious NPR blog post about bitter people who post negative comments on chat boards, kind of like what BK talks about with regard to YouTube. I'll see if I can find it online and link to it.

PBS is showing the City Ballet's NUTCRACKER tonight live from Lincoln Center and I missed the first half! Balanchne's directon and stagng of the children in the first act is sheer genius.
I had no idea it was being shown tonight. Damn. Maybe they'll rebroadcast on Sunday.
-
We are also watching THE NUTCRACKER - want some popcorn, DR Elmore?
-
Well, I'm off to see Capital Playhouse's production of Scrooge. It's the first time that they've presented it without ousted founder Jeff Kingsbury as Scrooge. I'm sure that it'll be good, though. :)
Until later.
-
It's rebroadcast Sunday at 12:30. I'll tape it then. I'm sure it's better than the filmed version with McCauley Culkin. Or hwever the hell you spell it!
-
As I was walking toward the library today, I was thinking about stopping at the box office and buying a ticket for NUTCRACKER. It was the reason I first came to New York in Christmas week, 1966, and it's one of my favorite things about New York at Christmas.
I don't thnk the director was too smart, though, about directing the ballet for tv: to many cameras so you can't see Balanchine's beautful patterns and pictures, why the cut to Marie during the Prince's narrative about the Mouse King instead of sticking the camer on him? It's his moment. I'll videotape it on Sunday, and I ,ay rn down to Lincoln Center when I hit the NYPL and buy a tcet for next week.
-
I agree about the camera work, DR Elmore, and I envy you being able to go see the production in person. We did enjoy the broadcast.

It remans for me the definitive production of the ballet, and I can't wait to see the broadcast of Act One now.
I'll check on ticket sales. If I go, I want a good seat in the first ring or first balcony.

I just mentioned that that was my hope in my recent review of the Direct from Broadway MEMPHIS.

I hope they realize that doesn't mean I'm going to love Ice Road Truckers. :)
Yes, I agree.....that would have to be ONE BIG BOX of candy to accomplish that for me as well.

OVATION is having the battle of the Nutcrackers this week. Unfortunately they are introduced by Debbie Allen......the great danseuse. Even with Nigel Lythgoe along, it's a strange evening.
One Nutcracker an evening for five nights.....and then you vote for your favorite.
-
I guess I shall go to bed as well.....
-
I'm glad you talked today.
Me, too.

I'm sorry but Miss Debbie Allen and dance should not be mentioned in the same breath. Or posting.

Played "Holiday inn" in the background tonight while working. Then I started "Going My Way," which I won't finish tonight.
-
Good night, all.

Good Evening!
Just back from Brandy's where not only did it turn into a mini-OKLAHOMA! reunion, but the amazing Terri White dropped by after her two-show day, and sang a few songs. Nicholas Rodriguez, who played Curly, was behind the bar, and our Laurey and Ali Hakim - Eleasha Gamble and Nehal Joshi - were there tonight too. It was great seeing everyone again.
-
DR elmore - Terri sends her Love.
-
And...
Since I really should have been in bed at least two hours ago...
Goodnight.
