Well, you've read the notes, the notes had magic but did not reveal the secrets of said magic, and now it is time for you to post until the magic cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MAZARD!
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to Dakota Celt, who seems to have gone away from this here site.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Laundry in 40 minutes.
I'm finishing breakfast now.
-
Happy birthday, Dakota
-
George - many thanks for your post last night!
-
Happy Birthday DR DAKOTA CELT.
-
DR FJL I will have to check your links when I get home tonight. Running a bit late this morning.....which is of course a work morning.
-
TOD:
CD - Glee The Warblers
DVD - Circus of Horrors, the Shuttered Room
-
Off to work. Oh well.
-
TOD:
Nothing new to watch on DVD.
I was going to watch STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER this weekend, but we watched that last night.
Oh, well, I've got plenty of stuff in my library.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy, happy, DakotaCelt!
-
Fox's release of STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER really irks me.
It has only been released as a Blu-Ray/DVD 2-pack, which means that it costs more money.
>:(
Frankly, I just wanted the DVD version, but if I wanted the movie at all, I had to take both.
(Thankfully, there was a good deal on ebay.)
::)
To make matters worse, the Blu-Ray version would not play on my Samsung. It loaded, and just sat there, so we wound up watching the DVD version anyway, which looks terrific.
>:( >:( >:(
But, that is one of the reasons why I hate Blu-Ray.
BTW: One of the extras on the disc is a very interesting featurette about the Fox musicals through the early 1950s. My friend, Miles Kreuger, is one of the participants.
:)
-
Good morning, all! My dreams were very strange and I remember next to nothng - something about prison sentences and a supermarket, perhaps - this morning. Now that I am mobile, I am pondering the morning's activities, but I do believe my weekend priority is to clean up this apartment, put things back where they belong and music into the proper carton. With all of my personal possessions moved out of Toyland, the place is has cluttered as it was before the 2008 bed bug invasion, and I cannot let it continue to pile up.
I do have to run down to Toyland this morning to look up some Toyland materials belonging to me, and then I will commence with the cleanup.
Tonight, I'm seeing the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players perform THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE and the conducting debut of my friend Joseph Rubin. I will sit with Joseph's parents, who are coming in from Canton, OH for the Big Night. I haven't seen a NYGASP performance in over ten years. When I first got to the City, I saw great productions of RUDDIGORE and IOLANTHE, but around 1987, I caught a New Year's Eve{?} performance of an under-rehearsed, sloppily performed GONDOLIERS that was really second rate. This is my first time back in 23 years. I don't care so much about the performance as Joseph's conducting this time around. I figure the company, which does PIRATES often, will be fine; I want Joseph's debut to be good.
TOD:
DVD: several Netflix items, ONCE
CD: The Fortune Teller, other Victor Herbert, Rodgers & Hart, Guy Haines, Offenbach
VCR: Hmmmm . . .
-
TOD:
DVD: Tiara Tahiti (1962). One of my favorite British '50s films which oddly enough has not been issued in the UK. This VCI version is far better than the French DVD which I have. What surprised me was the nudity, which certainly wasn't on the British cinema release version. I assume it was intended for the more broad-minded French filmgoers!
Blu-ray: David and Bathsheba (1951). Got this from Denmark on the Soul Media label but the picture quality is disappointing. It looks hardly any better than the DVD.
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to our E&T DR Dakotacelt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TOD:
DVD: Friday Night Lights, 1st Season
The Complete Jean Vigo
CD: Beethoven's symphonies
MP3: What Makes Sammy Run?, The Zulu and the Zayda, Let It Ride!

Elmore, if you see Patricia Sinnott at Symphony Space tonight, tell her hello from me.

Friday morning greetings! I slept past 9am today and feel quite refreshed. Richard and I are going on a New Year's Eve Eve date because we want to stay home tomorrow afternoon/evening to see the University of Cincinnati play in the Liberty Bowl. We're going to see WAR HORSE and then to an early dinner.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR DakotaCelt!
-
Conducting debut vibes to DR Elmore's friend Joseph!

HAPPYY BIRTHDAY DAKOTA!!!

I can't wait until the caucuses are over. I'm finding myself more and more irritated at how rude people are to the various candidates that come to town and to the people who support them. What ever happened to civil discourse and agreeing to disagree and respecting someone's right to think differently? I actually had a "friend" tell me that he was about ready to throw in the towel about me because of who I want to caucus for. It really made me mad. Disagree with me, vote for someone else, spend money supporting a different candidate, but if that's a determining fact in a friendship, then there never was a friendship. I haven't been political at all this time....until I heard that yesterday. I got so mad I went out and got a yard sign and a bumper sticker.
-
Ok, two yard signs
-
and a bumper sticker
-
But if no one else in the entire world supports the same person I do, that's fine with me. Just let me have my own opinion. (Stepping off of my soap box)
-
Thanks, Jrand!

Go in nude, TCB! What can they do?

If his office is as cold as mine that could be quite a problem.

Interesting that Fox evidently isn't covering this (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45819377#.Tv3srjVrNqs).
-
I can't help but feel a wave of sadness and nostalgia as they release the list of Sears stores that are closing. My father managed stores in SLC and Seattle. It was family lore that when my eldest sister was a toddler and a family friend asked her where she got her "big blue eyes" she answered without missing a beat, "Sears, Roebuck and Company!" :)
-
Or Shears and Robust, as "Finian's Rainbow" called it.
-
Fun Filichia on Friday to close out the year.
-
I don't even think there is a Sears around here. Or a K-Mart, either.

You've always been ahead of the times, Laura. ;)
-
Try to contain your excitement, but I think we're going to use our home laminator for the first time today.
-
Why we would be laminating our home is anyone's guess. ;)
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And I really need to get back on some sort of semblance of a normal sleep schedule. However, since my current show runs three hours, which means I don't get back home until 11:30pm, and then it takes me about an hour to unwind, well... At least I don't have a matinee today.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR DAKOTA CELT!!!!!

That oughta make the rain roll right off, JMK.

Why we would be laminating our home is anyone's guess. ;)
Oh... That's right... Your DW Betsy is the professional comedian in your family.

Well as Betsy would be the first (or at worst second ;) ) to admit, I write all of her best material. One way or the other.

As for the Friday Media Check...
Well...
I've mainly been listening to WCVE, the local NPR/PRI/PBS/etc. radio station. Actually, they're part of IdeaStations.org now. The new daytime host tends to play too many Classical stand-bys and chestnuts, but their line-up of new programs and latenight music is still my favorite.
-
There's actual work to be done at work today. Wassup with that?
-
I could not print an 11x17 score at Toyland yesterday from a pdf I had been sent, so I'm guessing it's corrupt in some way. Today, no matter what I did, from rebooting to kicking the copier, nothing would make it print that onescore. I was able to print out several other pdfs attached to the same email, but not that one. It will print on 8x11 on my home printer, so I guess I'll take it over to Staples and enlarge it to 11x17. All in all, a frustrating trip to Toyland.
-
TOD: Believe it or don't, I've been listening to a lot of "house" remix stuff lately. I am addicted to various remixes of "Morning Light" by Swen G and Inusa, which I am currently arranging for my choir.

OK... I should get a headstart on a project here that I should have completed last year. And by "last year", I mean 2009. ::)

Actually the fact that Portland was ever even considered "in" makes me laugh. Heartily.

I'm up, I'm up - the sun is shining and I'm trying to do the same. Talk about strange dreams - in one I was giving Bette Davis little pointers on her singing, and then, later, I was doing the same for Neil Sedaka. Go know.

Jrand isn't here to explain the dreams, but my thoughts:
Neil Sedaka is on your mind because of CALENDAR GIRL to remind you to get a new calendar.
As to Bette Davis, maybe because it's almost New Year's - Eve.

Hello, everyone.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR DAKOTA CELT!!

I believe JR either saw or actually may have been in MISS MOFFAT in Indy.

HAPPY RETIREMENT to DR TCB!!
NO ONE deserves this more than you do!!

A Very Happy Birthday to DR DakotaCelt!! ;D
-
I hope TCB is having a nice retirement party.

During my Christmas sojourn I came across a biscuit I've not had before; Carr's Cheese Melts. A bit of cheese on these biscuits goes down a treat. The biscuits melt and crumble in the mouth. I believe they are available in the US although I don't know how widely.

Happy retirement DR TCB and welcome to the club!

I just received DVD review copies of DIRTY GIRL and AN IDIOT ABROAD, so I will have something new to watch this weekend.
:)

And...
Just another friendly reminder:
Monday, January 2, 2012, is a Federal Holiday (since January 1, 2012, falls on a Sunday). So no US Post Office Mail service that day either.

And...
I think I'm going to head in for an early dinner/late lunch/brunch/breakfast ::) before tonight's show.

Ah, but since I'm hourly with no holidays or vacation time, that means four 10-hour days or lost income.
-
I don't really care, since I have the work.
-
What I care about is why are we still on this page?
-
Listening to early k.d. lang after too much Steve Lawrence and "What Makes Sammy Run." "Angel with a Lariat." I think it's her best album all these years later. What a raucous, wonderful instrument her voice is, and she sings as if there's no limit to what it could do. Like a child before it learns that it can't fly.
-
Well, I'm all alone here. That's why no one else is posting.
-
Sorry to have driven y'all off.
-
Going to "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" tonight. Hope it's a 10th as good as the Swedish version, even if David Fincher directed it. His track record is spotty in my book. I liked "Se7en" and parts of "Fight Club," "The Social Network" and "Zodiac" but found much of his other stuff overrated. And after the notes from bk, I don't plan to watch him in any "making of ..." documentaries.
-
Going to try a new Pakistani barbecue place for dinner.
-
A vegetarian I work with said all of the vegetable dishes tasted like meat. I guess that means it's smoky. But if we could that, more kids might eat their vegetables.
-
New York Times review of Alan Bennett's "Smut" made me put it on hold at the library. Sounds fun.
-
Well, I've blathered almost enough.
-
One more.
-
Page four!
-
And I'm off.
-
WHAT??!! Only 91 posts? Well, now it's 92.
-
I had lunch with my friend Jan. Jan and I grew up together. She was ill with a very painful condition for about six months this year. I'm very glad to see her feeling better and back at work. I told her about the HHW NYE partay, but I doubt that she'll drop by. And, yes, she remembers BK.
-
I'm now doing laundry. Such a life!!

TTFN.

Good Evening!
Greetings from Lift Coffee Shop where I'm satisfying my somewhat newfound coffee/caffeine addiction/habit.

Actually the fact that Portland was ever even considered "in" makes me laugh. Heartily.
DR JMK - From a Foodie/Gourmet/Gourmand/FoodTruck standpoint, it's still "In". Although, I believe that some cities in the Midwest are starting to grab more of that spotlight.

CRANBERRIES!!!

In other news...
I'm hoping that when I get up tomorrow morning, I will finally go through the 10 plastic "shoeboxes" of stuff that have been sitting up on a shelf in my parents' house. They've been there for a number of years already. I should just throw them out, but... Well... I do know that there are a few important receipts in one of them. However, the whole "project" should take less than an hour to complete. Much less than an hour. I hope.
-
...And then my father can stop bugging me about said boxes-o-stuff each time I come home. ::)
-
During my Christmas sojourn I came across a biscuit I've not had before; Carr's Cheese Melts. A bit of cheese on these biscuits goes down a treat. The biscuits melt and crumble in the mouth. I believe they are available in the US although I don't know how widely.

Ooh! I'll have to give a closer look the next time I pass the Carr's section in the Cookies & Crackers aisle in the supermarket.

I also got the dates for the New York auditions for THE MUSIC MAN at Arena Stage. I'm looking forward to being with a show from the audition process to closing night again.

Back from various and sundried things - had some matzo brei, did a two-mile jog rather than four, picked up some packages and no important envelope, which will hopefully be here tomorrow with some other packages. So, one of the packages contains a little something for you dear readers - therefore, you'll need to send your addresses to me at kritzerland at gmail dot com - even if you think I have it, send it anyway.

Please, seriously, no more jokes about DataLounge, at least as far as I'm concerned - it's building into a very worrisome situation and I'm now assuming it involves some of the anonymous lurking guests here .

Jokes about Ann and Mike of All that Chat are always welcome, however!!!

I suppose it's time to head up to Symphony Space for the Gilbert & Sullivan. Please, God, let it be good!

Just got home from War Horse. Since I seem to be losing my sense of humor I decided a little movie therapy would be a good idea. I have to say the movie was OK, but the book is much better. It's only 165 pages and narrated by the horse.

Looking forward to another 3-day weekend! I hope to get something accomplished, like getting rid of lots of stuff.

If any New Yorkers haven't heard about this: Roundabout Theatre is offering $10 tickets for the first weekend of previews for "Harvey," from May 18-20. The code is ACCESS10:

I'm about a month behind on catching up on old VARIETYs and just read the rather scathing review of Burt Bacharach's new UK musical with Steve Sater.
-
I enjoyed the Rebecca Luker songs, DR FJL!
Thanks, Kevin. I'll let Skip know. We're having a good time with that project!
-
I'm also catching up on this season's AMERICAN HORROR STORY. If this first season is going the direction I think it is, it really is an amazingly brave conceit.

You know, we go to see doctors when we are at our lowest point. We want to be comforted, encouraged, soothed, and sent away from their offices better than when we arrived. When that doesn't happen, we feel lost.

Sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience, DR TCB.

Watched a superb Maigret movie and am now listening to War Horse, a beautiful John Williams score.

Had some tuna (no bread) and a donut.
-
Oh, TCB, I am so sorry.
-
Good Evening!
And the final My Fair Lady for 2011 went very well.
-
Now I just need to figure out what I want to do tomorrow night, if anything. The past couple of days have been spent getting everything from January 1 to July 22 of the New Year in order. I haven't really thought about New Year's Eve. -Although, I suspect I will be starting my day back at Sidewalk Cafe with Edwina. :)

Had some tuna (no bread) and a donut.
Well... Technically speaking, a donut is "bread", so...
I wonder if a Tuna Salad Sandwich made with donuts as the "bread" would work like those Cheeseburgers with Krispy Kreme Doughnut "Buns"?
::)
-
I'm back from NYGASP! My friend Joseph acquitted himself well, but the production was hit or miss for me: too much prancing, too much silliness, a completely unsophisticated production with surprisingly wonderful, but too few, moments. I thought the attempts to make the show "funny" removed the heart from the piece and the failure to recognize the sophistication and elegance of the score - granted, it's mostly a parody of TROVATORE - pointed up the lack of sophistication and wit of the direction. I know it's a piece of Gilbertian whimsy and Topsy Turvydom, but there needs to be a foundation of reality that the director and choreographer completely failed to realize.
-
I'm off to bed. I have laundry first thing in the morning.

VIBES TO TCB~~~~~~
-
For those DRs who are fans of "Downtown Abbey", the first season is currently available on iTunes for just $9.99 for the SD version (http://itunes.apple.com/us/tv-season/downton-abbey/id410597630?showLC=true) or $14.99 for the HD version (http://itunes.apple.com/us/tv-season/downton-abbey/id410597630).

VIBES TO TCB~~~~~~
Many vibes to TCB.
-
"Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was good. It moved at a great pace and never felt long at all. But it was much softer than the Swedish film. More about relationships than I thought necessary. A little too Hollywood. Longer, more explicit sex scenes and more humor, the latter of which wasn't necessarily a plus.
-
And since it's already been December 31, 2011, here on the East Coast for about an hour and fifteen minutes...
Goodnight.
-
Vibes and hugs to TCB

Couldn't bring myself to watch Steve and Eydie tonight, FJL. Maybe tomorrow.
Till then. night, all.
