Well, you've read the notes, you know what becomes the notes most, and now it is time for you to post until the legendary cows come home.

A Very Happy Birthday to (former?) DR Iris* (aka Dear Lurker Iris)!! ;D
-
Last night, we ran through act one of "A Bucket of Blood" twice and got to leave early. Tonight, we'll run act two twice. It's coming together quite nicely and I think will do well, as long as people actually come to see it. That's always the problem...getting butts in seats. :-\

Well, it's official!! Historic Senate vote clears way for gay marriage in [Washington] state (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2017398387_gaymarriage02m.html)!!

Dear Lurker Iris still lurks, and very much enjoys this fabulous family that meets up in Bruce's living room.
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, and a very Happy Birthday to my birthday twin, Ben.
I'll try to stop by more frequently and even post, as I miss you guys.

Spending my birthday in New York, where it felt like spring today. Flowers are blooming, people are jogging in shorts and t-shirts, and it's all very strange.
-
I understand your confusion, George! I registered too many times, forgot my password, etc. etc.
I always enjoyed being your fellow late night denizen on the West Coast!
-
Perhaps we should bring that late night tradition back!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Thank you, Bruce, George and Iris for the birthday wishes (especially my birthday twin Iris). Mr. Oatmeal is very happy to have a group of friends like you!
-
I have another birthday twin, my friend Peter, in North Carolina.
-
It will be a quiet day. We will go out to dinner tomorrow. Yesterday was a beautiful day. More normal winter weather has arrived for the next few days. It's 45 degrees right now (yesterday it got up to over 62 degrees), not bad, but a big drop from yesterday.
I'm finishing the ubiquitous oatmeal (banana, cinnamon and walnuts and a cup of coffee) and then it's a clean up and out to the office.
-
Good morning, all! I slept quite well I'm reaady for whatever fresh hell the day brings me.
Frst thing this morning,
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to Our DRs Ben & the occasional Iris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My day is a long workday; proofing the vocal and full scores for "The Pipes of Pansy," a bit of work on the stage band charts for ROBERTA, and back to liner notes for Disc 4 of the Herbert songs.

There is this free game on kindle that I am in love with. It is called Every Word.
They give you scrambled letters and you have to find as many words as you can. To move on to the next level you need to at least find the longest word. But you get more points for every other word you find. It is helpful that they are listed in alphabetical order. So you can figure out some words.
Love this game.

JohnG, your recent comments about DEXTER have made me laugh--years ago, Betsy and I had a cold and I had to go to the store to get cough medicine and they had the first season of DEXTER on sale for $9.99, so I picked it up. I brought it home, we popped in the first disc thinking we'd watch one episode--a day later, we were done with our DEXTER marathon, having watched the entire first season in basically one sitting. I bought Betsy the 5 pack of Blu-rays that was an Amazon special last December for the holidays.
-
I am listening to an album I never even knew existed until a couple of weeks ago. You all are so well informed, you probably all knew this, but evidently Simon & Garfunkel split up right after they recorded their first album because nothing was happening commercially for them, and Simon split to England where he recorded a solo album (!) for Columbia. Just a few weeks later Sound of Silence started charting regionally and the pair reunited. I'm listening to Paul's 1965 solo album (just Paul and guitar), which contains several songs he did later with S&G.

Thanks for the mention in the notes, BK. There is a contingent of anti-Universal whiners on several boards and they just refuse to accept any catalog release that Uni puts out. I'm about to post All's Quiet on the Western Front, so expect the uproar to begin yet again. :)

DR JRand - Have you watched the pilot online? Most of the songs are written by Debra Messing and Christian Borle, er, I mean Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. So, the sound is very much of "today's Broadway".
I like what I've heard so far, although, I will admit that nothing has truly impressed me, but I think that may be on purpose.
*I actually liked the choice of "Beautiful" for an audition song. There was something very smart about that choice. Alas, I didn't like the auto-tuning.
**I'm wondering if we'll be hearing any songs from the writing teams "current" hit show, "Heaven & Earth" (which, apparently is at the Shubert Theatre).

I believe it's still available as a free download on iTunes, as well on NBC's own site, in addition to many other media websites. It's all a part of the hyper-publicity campaign for the show.
*And notice how NBC put the show on Mondays when most (Broadway) shows are "dark".

My only pre-conceived difficulty with this show is that I couldn't stand Katharine McPhee as a vocalist on "American Idol"...didn't like her intonations, didn't like that she was pitchy, at one point or another, in every song she sang. I considered her a "vanilla" singer...a voice, but not one I wanted to hear again.
Will give the show a chance. But I'm pre-disposed to not liking it.
-
JRand61: Other than Debra Messing claiming to be "the new Lucille Ball" in an interview many years back during her "Will and Grace" days, are there any other reasons you dislike her?
I ask because that quote never bothered me (other than giving me a huge guffaw), but I confess I'm not a huge fan otherwise.
-
Well that's about an hour of my life I will never get back.
HOWEVER.....it was not as awful as it could have been. And I will agree with DR JOSE that the original music was actually enjoyable.
I may watch it now and then......but McPhee is a weak link....especially when compared to Hilty who is a big WOW!!! McPhee is stuck with her American Idol type singing which doesn't do it for me.
DR RLP - she can't act, she isn't pretty, she can't deliver lines with any conviction, and her hair has a life of its own. She is not as bad in SMASH as she has been - or can be - but she isn't convincing to me.....and I wonder if it's her character choice or Messing who pronounces the word theatre as "thee-ter......"
DR JOSE - are they pronouncing Michael Reidel's name correctly? I am assuming they are.....
-
And she still likes to pull down the corners of her mouth when she says something funny.....

Kritzerland music vibes for MR BK.
On Tuesday night on ME TV - they broadcast the Perry Mason episode from 1964 titled The Case of the Accosted Accountant....the victim in the piece was named B.K. Durand.....so it was most amusing to me to hear an hour of people in court and out discussing the BK.

On a different topic, why do people care who Donald Trump endorses??

On a different topic, why do people care who Donald Trump endorses??
A better question might be "Who are these people?"
Who gives a sweet patootie whatsoever about what "the Donald" thinks or endorses? Seriously.
The biggest joke of last year was his announcement that he was running for president!!!
:)

I heard on the news this morning that the Trump people proclaimed that the Donald would be making a MAJOR announcement today.

"Misery"! I loved the book and I loved the movie. :D
A few weeks ago, I just finished reading Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and I love "Scrooge" with Albert Finney.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the British TV version is muchly preferred over the movie, which I liked, but don't prefer)
I'm reading today's Topic of the Day as that we should've seen the movie AND read the book...so, I can't think of any other books that I've read that were made into movies...not that there haven't been any other, but I just can't think of any. :-\
Or is it just movies in general that were based on books, whether we've read the books or not?

Thank you, Ron.

I have not tried signing in on my kindle yet. I was worried i wouldn't be able to read the comments easily. But i'm guessing i wouldn't be able to read them okay (i can read twitter but not facebook). Just thinking posting might be a challenge.
Posting is a challenge for me. I don't know how to go back & correct mistakes & it bothers my shoulders posting under the covers.
The reason i haven't set it up on my kindle is because i don't want to read something and want to comment on it and not be able to. I think you can go back my selecting "delete" (assuming you just mean to correct one letter).
When I click on the comment box my keyboard comes up. As for corrections, I can't get to the word I want to remove, change, whatever without deleting everything I typed after the word.

Jane, what a beautiful birthday card! Thanks!!
You are welcome. It is a real treat to have you here today.
-
Got an iPad for my b-day.
Now I understand the addiction to Angry Birds!
:)
I don't know about Angry Birds but DH Keith loves his iPad.
-
On a different topic, why do people care who Donald Trump endorses??
LOL. I haven't a clue.
-
On a different topic, why do people care who Donald Trump endorses??
It's especially hilarious in that there are polls showing his endorsement will actually be detrimental. :)
I wondered about that.
-
Didn't see your post, George. Great minds. Or at least one-track minds, eh?
Umm...let's go with "great minds."
;)
-
Thank you, Doug.
I am currently enjoying my birthday chocolates from London-many different kinds of bars made by Thorntons.
Yummy.
I'm not a fan of Thorntons chocolates, however I LOVE the special toffee, especially the mint. I have about two pieces of the licorice to eat.

Apologies for seeming to sit here like so much fish all day. I logged in this morning on my computer and our Internet went out shortly thereafter. Now I'm on my phone, but can't log my computer out.

Internet vibes for DR Ginny!

I've done my six hours today, and I am waiting for dinner to arrive from the Cottage, a Chinese place of 77th Street. I ran down to taples and picked up some 11x17copy paer for tomorrow and on my way back, I saw that a new Nickolodeon show is filming across the street from me at the Catholic church tonight. I asked a couple of prduction assistants what was going on.
Tonight, I hope to finish sorting my 2011 tax receipts, as soon as I turn in these Herbert songs noytes, bios, etc., I have to begin tallying them for my appointment.
I heard on the news that Newt was expecting Trump's endorsement. I'm still laughing.

TOD:
Books I love the movie versions of....
Brideshead Revisited
I, Claudius
A Room With A View
Maurice
To Kill A Mockingbird
Most of the Jane Austens, especially the multi-part "Pride and Prejudice" with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

Happy Birthday, Ben!

Happy Birthday, Dear Lurker Iris!

There is nothing like a well done Jane Austen movie with actors that bring the characters to life.

I'm trying to figure out what to make for the Super Bowl.
I love cheesecake. But most use like 3-4 containers of cream cheese which is too expensive, especially on an untried recipe.
Do you have a small cheese cake springform pan? If so you can halve the recipe.
I don't know what size my springform pan is. But i think it's pretty big.
You can find smaller ones. I like making a half size cheese cake as they are so rich.
Except this is for a Super Bowl party. So i can't make a smaller one. I need a big one!

Thank you, Kevin.

Happy Birthday,

DR Ben!

Last night, we ran through act one of "A Bucket of Blood" twice and got to leave early. Tonight, we'll run act two twice. It's coming together quite nicely and I think will do well, as long as people actually come to see it. That's always the problem...getting butts in seats. :-\
It wouldn't be my first choice as a Valentine's Day Gift!

I guess I am now officially "RETIRED." My former unit and some other former coworkers took me down to the waterffront for my going away lunch. I received my offical letter from Governor Gregoire thanking me for my 28 years of service; plus another letter from our former Under-Secretary of Children's Services, who has now returned to her home state of Wisconsin (it was probably her last official act before fleeing the state). I also received a very nice plaque for my 28 years.
-
Congratulations, DR TCB!
-
OMG, there are pages of videos saying happy birthday to me! How did they all know???
Thanks Fred!
At least you didn't get the 70-year old hooker!

Very nice DR TCB & congratulations!!!

They took you to the waterfront and didn't throw you off the pier? Some people have better self control, I guess. :D
I have finished all receipt sorting, and that's the worst part of my taxes.
Beyond paying the additional amount.

I haven't stopped sneezing & blowing my nose for the last four hours. I think it might be easing up so I'm going to attempt to finish reading a book.

Can you buy one from someplace like Costco? They have large cheesecakes and they're very reasonably priced...if you have a Costco near you AND you have a membership.

It's tough to tell from the promos - but the music from SMASH doesn't seem to be Broadway like - more American Idol content and singing style. It might be a vehicle for selling LOTS of music downloads....kind of like GLEE.
And then there's the luminescence of Miss MESSing.
So, which one is Messing? Wittman or Shaiman?
Isn't that like asking two lesbians, "Which one is the bride?"
-
And now, I'm off to rehearsal. My four, count 'em FOUR lines are near the end of the second act. I finally get to speak tonight. :)
Until later!

That's pretty funny. He just endorsed Mitt Romney.
Now the DNC has announced that he chose Romney because they both like to fire people!
I believe it is the Republicans who are saying that.

Good, that was the idea. I am hoping we will hear soon about your next broadcast.

Well the flute lessons were a great idea. The problem is between taking care of the cats and the house, running a business, practicing for band and sleeping and eating I really don't have the time to practice the way I would need to in order to work the way she wanted me to. I pretty much decided yesterday it just isn't going to work. I talked to her today. She volunteered to go to every other week (which she refused to do last week), but I told her we should just stop so she can fill the time slot with someone who can be there.
The other thing is, it was already becoming work and I was already feeling guilty because I didn't have time to practice as I needed to. I want to play for fun. I decided I'd rather be one of the old timers in the lower half of the section playing for fun and having a good time, than having it become work.

Granted I have never tasted a Costco cheesecake I find the thought of purchasing one from them unappealing, plus DR Jennifer likes to bake.

I'm not surprised, only that you came to this decision so quickly. Fun is your priority here. :)

'night
-
DR Cillaliz - I think you made a very wise decision.
-
Good Evening!
Greetings from Memphis!
-
It's been a good day. It's been a long day. And since I have about 180 auditions to play for tomorrow...
-
DR TCB - Congratulations OFFICIALLY on your retirement!
-
DR Jennifer - Why don't you make a cheesecake recipe you've already "tried"? ;)
-
As for springform pans and cheesecakes...
After reading Nick Malgieri's book on cakes a few years ago, I just started making my cheesecakes in extra-deep cake pans - which, as it turns out, are called "cheesecake pans". If you cook and cool them far enough in advance, it's very easy to turn them out - and you don't ha to worry about water seeping into the (springform pan).
-
DR Jennifer (part deux) - One option is to make a big plain cheesecake, then serve it with various fruit and toppings (chocolate sauce, caramel, etc.) for your guests to spoon over themselves.
-
Well that's about an hour of my life I will never get back.
DR JRand - Good to hear that you didn't gouge out your eyes and ears. ;)
-I've seen parts of ten second and third episodes, and I believe Miss McPhee's "low wattage" in the pilot is on purpose.
-Yes, they are pronouncing Michael Riedel's name correctly. He pops up from time to time on Twitter with some great tidbits - @MichaelRiedelNY.
-I'm wondering how Ms. Messing's current marital status will get played out in the press - if it does - once they introduce Will Chase's character.
-
Has anybody seen that video feature on Playbill.com on Elaine Stritch?
::)
-

Saw "Shame" tonight. It's like the uglier side of "Company" with a character less likable than Bobby Baby.
The nudity apparently got to one couple who got up and left about 10-15 minutes before the end. That was OK, because it got a lot more graphic after that.
-
Thank you, Jose, Cillaliz, Kevin, and TCB for the birthday greetings.
Loved your card, TCB, and congrats on retirement!
-
Oh, and Jose, there is a good restaurant in Memphis with a fabulous name.
Restaurant Iris. It would have been remiss of me not to share that info.
You probably know about it already, as you are the knower of such things.
But if you do manage to dine there, I would love to hear what it's like!
-
I am seriously exhausted. The why will be in the notes.
