Good morning, all! It was a very long night. I slept well, with many dreams, but it seemed to go on for years. All of my dreams were bizarre: working at Drama Book Shop to discover I'd arrived wearing only my underwear, deciphering who should sing what part in a Christmas rehearsal in which a reindeer was named Feckless (shades of Cold comfort Farm!), a dream in which my brother Randy was about five years old. I'm glad to be awake.

First thing, laundry, then I tidy the apartment, mop the bathroom and kitchen, and get to work on the Disc 4 liner notes.

Coffee first.

Saturday.....it is a bit rainy - so maybe there will be fewer than 350,000 people wandering the SuperBoil Village today.

I am annoyed that everyday on the news we hear from the SMUG woman who is in charge of the event bragging about herself and her almost ALL FEMALE staff and the great job they are doing.....she NEVER mentions the 8,000 volunteers who are doing the street work...NEVER....  I hope she enjoys her paycheck.  As soon as the event ends, she is off to run the Olympics somewhere.....my guess is that she won't even clean out her desk.....but leave everything for someone else to clean up.

Mayo, yes. Salad dressing (oil, vinegar, herbs, etc.), yes.

I mean, even bk's Tuna Pasta Salad uses mayo.

A number of ways--many people in the various choirs I lead do not read music and aren't especially skilled.  Pounding out their parts repeatedly on a piano helps.  I also provide MIDI files of parts for my choir members.

Today, in my Disc 4 researches, I came across this sketch of the comedy The MerryWives OfGotham. It's actresses Laura Hope Crews and Grace George as two sisters who were separated in Ireland 43 years earlier and are friends in 1873 Manhattan. Crews played the Irish washerwoman who works for the wealthy Park Avenue matron, played by George. Only the audience knows they are sisters; they never discover the fact. Victor Herbert wrote a  glorious song "Heart O'Mine,"  for the production. It's possibly his last song and moves me to tears every time I hear it

Jennifer, when I make a pasta salad, I finely chop onion, celery, green pepper if I have it, carrots, and some broccoli flowers cut really small. I often mix some mayo and some bottled dressing and toss it all together. I like to use the rotini shaped -- like a corkscrew -- because it holds the dressing better.

DR Ginny, I agree-great picture! :)

The restaurant looks good except I didn't see much there for a vegetarian.  What did you have?

Im thinking that tomorrow I may go to two movies, WOMAN IN BLACK, which i hope will live up to the great BBC production from about 15(?) years ago, and ONE FOR THE MONEY. After a scare, I could use a laugh.

I had chicken paprikas with spaetzle and German chocolate cake for dessert (half of which I sent home with Mom).  Not at all heart healthy...

I used to make a great chicken paprika.  Even the vegetarian version was rather unhealthy.

Yes, DR Jane, I opened the link and agree that you need to buy those sheets.  The few times it's gotten cold enough here for flannel sheets, we used only the top one with a regular sheet on the bottom and that worked quite well.

Hmmm, I'll have to ask Keith about using only one flannel sheet.  I don't use the pillow cases anymore while he prefers them.

This is the reason my side of the bed has twice as much fur in it as Keith's side, and why I stopped using flannel pillow cases.

Back from a party marking the opening of a new Stephan Pyles restaurant. the problem with these things is far too many cocktails and not enough food. And I wasn't in a cocktail mood tonight.

I did go shopping, which wouldn't have been possible if we had gotten the snow.  I got a really good mattress topper that I'm going to put on the futon that has a fairly thin mattress when mom and dad come to spend the night.   Mom likes sleeping in that room and it will make it a very comfortable bed. I also got a great deal on an outfit for my nephew's wedding.   I couldn't believe the amount of clothes on the clearance racks.  People must not have been buying winter clothes this year

Had a mostly good rehearsal - cast was fine but I had to give a few notes to a few people, just to keep energy up and stuff.  And a few notes about dynamic for the pianist.

Jane, I also loved Moorea.
Stayed in a fare, or hut, on stilts on the lagoon.
Had a glass window in the floor that I could open and feed the fish below.
Love the photos.

Well, today was a day.  At about 10:15 am, I got to the scene shop to help load set pieces to transport to the space where we're performing (the basement of the local Eagle's Club, called The Eagle's Underground).  There were about 10 or so people and three vehicles, so it all fit in the carts and we only had to make one trip.  We then got to the space and unloaded the vehicles.  We assembled most of the pieces that needed to be put together (there are still some things that aren't finished and it was decided that some people would continue with the assemblage and some of us would walk downtown and put up posters.

I went with the posterers and by the time we got to a restaurant called McMenamin's/The Spar (http://www.mcmenamins.com/633-mcmenamins-spar-cafe-home), it was time for me to meet my friend Margo and our former co-worker Jan at McMenamin's.  Jan, Margo and I had a lovely lunch and chatted for a couple of hours.  Afterward, I walked back to the space and helped a bit more.  I then left after an hour or so and came home to rest.  I actually took an impromptu nap.

I needed to wake up because tonight, I went to a concert at a local shop called Traditions.  A group called Hot Club Sandwich (http://www.hotclubsandwich.com/) performed and they were very good and a lot of fun!  I even bought the three, count 'em THREE CDs that they were selling...for $25 total!  I then came home and am now ketchuping on HHW. :D
