Well, you've read the notes, the notes tripped the light fantastic, the light fantastic was good natured about it, and now it is time for you to post until the light fantastic cows come home.

Good mrning, all! I slept quite a long time, with one long torturous "New York Is Destroyed So Evacuate Now" dream involving a hotel, subway, automobiles, elevators and God alone knows what else.

It's a long weekend because of Presdent's Day. I hope my invoice check arrives today, otherwise it will be a long poor weekend. I have a cuple of errands to run this morning, and then I will spend the remainder of the weekend working on taxes and proofreading.

Did Andrew Lloyd Webber write a song about it?

Saturday morning greetings!  I had a very nice day yesterday, first running errands by myself, then more errands and a Red Lobster dinner with Richard.  My first stop was the Middfest International office to buy tickets for their March 3 "French Affair," a fundraiser and preview of this year's featured country, France.  Then on to Lambikin's Hideaway, the knitting store, for some coaching on my 2 projects.  Richard and I went to a branch of my former library employer before our dinner and to the grocery store after.

Today I'm home baking coffee cakes for the fellowship time after tomorrow's church service.

BK - glad you liked the Phantom Blu and Ray.  I thought it was amazing how they staged it with the projections and all.

TOD:  You know I strive to keep the ALW flame alive here at HHW, so I should probably list the songs that are NOT my favorite because the list would be much shorter.  I'll have to get back to you on that.

I reviewed The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall (http://<a href="http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Phantom-of-the-Opera-at-The-Royal-Albert-Hall-Blu-ray/29303/#Review">The Phantom of the Opera at The Royal Albert Hall Blu-ray review</a>) and didn't despise it, which, coming from me, is high praise indeed.  :)  There's been some brouhaha about a missing center channel on the 5.1 mix, but it is there after the Prologue, but it's really strangely mixed, over-reverbed and muddy sounding.  Phantom fans should also be aware that one of the big set pieces of the show (in fact, the set piece) doesn't occur in this production.

As I joked in my review, and some other ALW reviews through the years, I feel Sir Andrew suffered from some inexplicable series of strokes after Jesus Christ Superstar.  JCS was a work of genius in my estimation, but after that, meh, with some slight exceptions.

Best Punchline o' the Night Department:  Betsy's parents are in town from Wisconsin and we went out to dinner last night and got talking about the Scott Walker recall.  They said they had signed the petition (of course LOL) and I asked if a petitioner had come to their little lakeside cabin, and they said no, they had gone to an official "signing" event at the local (tiny northern Wisconsin village) Unitarian Church.  Betsy's mom, in extolling the virtues of how easy it was to sign the petition, offered this assessment:  "Those Unitarians. . .they're so advanced."  ;)

I am back from my errands to find a huge check in today's mail. Yowzah!

So far, the day goes well. I hope a phone call I did not answer last night wasn't from the jerk Master Toymaker, but isn't 213 area code Los Angeles?

And the good news is, I avoided the Whitney Houston brouhaha, although I'm sure the media will keep it going as long as they did the deaths of Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson.

So, I baked the coffee cakes at 350o and when they were done turned the oven up to 375o to roast some almonds.  When they were done, I turned the oven up to 425o to pre-bake pizza crust for tonight's dinner.  Now I've turned the oven off and will knit for a while.

Been moving stuff "in" to the house from the apartment.  I'm getting a little perturbed as the DP hasn't offered to help or even cared that it isn't getting done in a timely fashion.  In other words, he still hasn't figured out that he is the reason all the stuff went out of the house and then back into the house.

And... scene.

Meaning no disrespect, and someone somewhere will use the title "The Houston Opera," if they're not working  on it already, but it seems Whitney Houston herself already had fun with a "Houston Opera" concept in this clip from the 1990s.

I have seen several productions of POTO (granted, I haven't yet seen the 25th Anniversary version); but I still believe that the finest production around is the Las Vegas PHANTOM at The Venetian.  Unfortunately, that production will close on September 2.  I must admit that having the WSMA playing the Phantom may have colored by opinion slightly.  Still, the fact that the show was trimmed to a 92 minute running time (with no intermission) by ALW, himself, helped eliminate a lot of the problems i have always had with the show.  Too many verses of too many songs!  "Masquerade" must have 20 verses during the normal show, but it moves very swiftly in the Las Vegas version.  I am hoping I can go back and see PHANTOM in Las Vegas one last time before it closes.

Of course I have to agree, TCB!  In the original production, the auction drags on and on and as you mentioned, Masquerade is too long.  I'd like to see the Vegas version again too.  It'd be interesting to see Anthony Crivello in the role he's been doing for 6 years!

I saw a Vera Bradley store at the Prudential Center mall.  And then I saw Vera Bradley merchandise at Barnes and Noble.  Of course I thought of DR Ginny.  I have to say I don't ever remember hearing the name before I read DR Ginny's posts.  Now I seem to see it everywhere!

Barnes & Noble, that surprises me.  Vera Bradley seems to be more popular every day so more places are selling it.

I received an e-mail from Amazon.com telling me that as a Prime Member,  I can borrow one book per month for my Kindle.  I read over all the details and the fine print, but I must confess that this portion of the rules has me baffled.

The book currently being borrowed can be read on multiple Kindle devices, as long as they are registered to the same eligible account, but cannot be read on Kindle reading apps.

Typically glitches like that are something minor like fingerprints.  DVDs can be washed with liquid soap.  Just dry them by rubbing from the center out (not around in a circle).

Now, it's a strange Buster Keaton flick I found at the library, "Three Ages." In the first of the three ages, he's a cave man with Wallace Beery and some cheesy dinosaur effects.

The Vixter and I went to see POTO in Albert Hall  in the movie theatre when it was being broadcast  live from London

We watched the 1st 1/2 of the DVD yesterday and she says that she thinks that some of the camera angles are different in the video than those we saw during the original broadcast

She also believes they may have enhanced some of the sound effects

I've been going and doing.  I picked up two packages, both of which contained a CD with the same music - a soundtrack we're issuing.  These two issues seem very bogus to me - and there's a third that was released here in the States - I don't know from whom these were licensed but NONE of them are from the original album masters - they're all from either LP or a mono third or fourth generation tape and sound like crap.  So, something I could have licensed years ago but didn't because of all these specious releases will, in fact, be getting the Kritzerland treatment - stereo for the first time on CD, from the original album masters - and with a bonus, too.  I can't say what that is without giving away the title, but I can say the film from whence this score comes is one of the most beloved 60s films ever, and this CD will sell out instantly.

Just passingly curious:  how in the hell did Belinda Carlisle ever become a "star"?  Watching the Whitney Houston recap today reminded me of the Seattle songwriting team who wrote some of her hits and later had that great tune "Waiting for a Star to Fall" under their own band name (Boy Meets Girl), which Carlisle also evidently recorded.  Just listened to a demo on YouTube and she is so flat I can't believe it.

I ended up going out for a late supper.  I wasn't really intending to eat again, but hunger got the better of me - so a friend and I went to the Eclectic Cafe and I had cajun chicken angel hair pasta - very light, actually.
