I slept late this morning since it's a holiday for me and because we did get home in time to watch Downton Abbey which didn't go until 11pm but 10:35 and then we watched the "behind the scenes" short.

I'm looking forward to Season 3.

The weather is up and down like a yo-yo. One day bitterly cold, next day mild. Today it's back to icy cold. Later in the week it's due to get exceptionally mild.

Good morning, all! Last night was filleed with dreams about Dublin, and I am looking forward to August's recording sessions there.

I hope to finish my taxes today, but the last four categories to be tallied have the largest number of receipts, and I will most likely spend a good deal of time at the computer printing out receipts from Abebooks and Amazon. Even if I don't finish today, I am in great shape for Wednesday's appointment.

First thing this morning, I will run down to Staples and purchase four storage cartons: I need one for my taxes, one for the DEAREST ENEMY proofs, and a couple for sending things to the Miami University Library.

More coffee!

Staples was nearly empty, but so is Broadway; it's like a Sunday morning or the day of a heavy snowfall. I bought everything I needed, so I have no option but to begin work.

I've only liked the Democrat presidents since I started voting around 1970. My mother's family is part of Abraham Lincoln's family, so I guess he's my favorite, and I have great admiration for him. Although he was a Republican, I doubt he'd recognize the party or the god-fearing, narrowminded and mentally challenged candidates running under that banner at present.

Speaking of that crazy music the young 'un's listen to nowadays, I am reviewing an L.A. concert by a band that actually manages to write songs with, oh, you know, melodies.  Has anyone here heard of Owl City?  Sweet little electronica band founded by a kid in his parents' basement (he did all of the first recordings himself, driving sequences from his laptop).  Go to YouTube and listen to "Fireflies."

Re:  Downton Abbey.  By the time Season Two ended, Betsy and I were more than happy with the overall arc of the show.  As I mentioned (lest anyone forget, LOL), I found a couple of the episodes leading up to the denouement predictable, which is not to say they weren't immensely enjoyable.  I for one am really looking forward to Shirley MacLaine next year.

BK, the man playing Lord Grantham is the inimitable Hugh Bonneville, and you would love, love, love him in the very funny LOST IN AUSTEN (hmmm. . .where did they get that title, I wonder), a miniseries about a modern day British lass who finds herself transported back into Pride and Prejudice.

Good morning, DR's.  I'm having an eBay issue regarding payment.  I recently won an auction for something that I'm very excited about.  When I actually pay for it, I'll share it with you.  Anyway... this has to do with shipping costs.  There was a shipping cost calculated in the total of the auction, which is fine.  However, the seller is saying it's going to cost more for shipping because they'd like to send it FedEx, which I have no problem with.  I asked him to go in and change the shipping criteria on the item because I can't change the shipping cost when using PayPal when eBay seems to have calculated it themselves, or he used the shipping calculator, or whatever.

Well, this seller is not very bright, they seem very defensive and they don't seems to want to work on this from their end.  We messaged back and forth yesterday and got no where.  I asked if he would send me his email address and I'd be happy to send the amount directly to him, that didn't happen.  Then I asked if he would just send me an invoice, but that hasn't happened either.

This item is a find and I'm very excited (not to mention a HUGE steal!)  The seller has a 100% feedback rating which leads me to believe this hasn't happened to them before.  My first thought is to go ahead and send the payment with the amount that eBay says is correct and deal with the $20 extra dollars later.  I'd hate to lose the item because of the seller not cooperating.  Never once did I say I wouldn't pay what they asked for.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  :)

Pay the amount that's due now via PayPal and then open a dispute if he won't ship.  You'll win, guaranteed.

If you're a PayPal Advantage member, you can actually call them and discuss the issue AFTER you've paid.  The sellers are required to abide by the shipping costs in the auction.  I've run into this before and have always come out on top.

Just save your PayPal email receipts.  You'll need them, with transaction numbers, if he doesn't ship.  And you still could make a case to get your extra $ back, they are forbidden from asking for extra monies for shipping.

I've been using eBay since 1998.  I always thought the seller set the shipping cost.  When did that change?

Sellers can set shipping, within certain parameters.  Those parameters become MUCH more restrictive when eBay revamped everything a few years ago (it was at the point that sellers could no longer leave negative feedback, one of the reasons I stopped selling on eBay).  One way or the other, eBay rules expressly forbid a seller "revising" shipping costs after an auction closes.  What is posted in the auction is what must be adhered to.

Could you just send two payments thru Paypal.  one for the item with the correct shipping costs; and the second one as just a send money transaction to his account?

I see that the first artificially produced burger made from stem cells is on the way later this year. I might wait for others to try them out before I sample one. Still, if it saves having to kill animals for meat I'm all in favour.

I think I may vomit on the ground.

How many Presidents have been mentioned in show tune lyrics?

Mr. Adams,
But Mr. Adams...

"We'd like to thank you, Herbert Hoover..."

LBJ took the IRT...

I am assuming there must be a few mentioned in ASSASSINS.
And maybe even one or two in "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson."

I'm not a big fan of it, either. Maybe that's why the costumes cover so much this year. It's not flesh, it's ink that's being hidden.

Or maybe it's just that the newspaper did run a full array of images. Only that which was fit to print.

Betsy and I managed to get our tax prep done in about an hour.  I don't know why I have such trepidation every year, it never turns out to be as bad as I think it will.  Years ago we created spreadsheets to track everything month by month, with a yearly summary (I'm pretty sure I forwarded the templates to some DRs at one point), and it makes collating info rather easy.

Historically I like the Founding Fathers......and that's about it.....maybe Lincoln.....

LOL, I read that as  "I have seen al the Presidents in my lifetime"  I was thinking,...he isn't THAT old

Only DR TCB can say that. He voted for Alexander Hamilton.

True, but I had to give up on Lincoln, because he was on the rebound after elmore dumped him for some actor named Booth.

Wow. . .Shirley was a lot older than I imagined.  ;)

I bought a new C flute today.  I kept my old one, I've had it 35 years, it's older than 4/7 of our flute section
Congrats. Hope you have plenty of fun with it.

That would be incestuous. Lincoln's a relative. I have heard that the person Booth was aiming for was actually you as "Our American Cousin." I hear you're the first actor snce Montfleury to provoke assassination attempts.

Actually, it is funny that you should say that.  At my friend, Sharry's, 50 years in theater Celebration / Roast, a couple of years ago; I announced that Sharry's performance as Our American Cousin was what set John Wilkes Booth off on his murderous rage.

Watching the NYCO production of "A Little Night Music" tonight. Ages ago, I saw George Lee Andrews play El Gallo in a dinner theater production of "The Fantastiks." He's was great in that, very virile, as I recall. And he's wonderful as Frederick, sheepish and caught between reality and is blind love for his young bride. I don't care too much for the production, the black, white and blue and a little too stark. I miss Desiree's red dress.

And, yes, it's keeping me from getting my work done tonight.

I love George Lee Andrews! He's such a nice man. That City Opera production wasn't great: the director's second rate.

Ididn't forget tonight and so I'mwatching SMASH. I have no idea what I missed from last week except Ivy's getting nvolved with the director. I have never seen the American Idol lady in anything else, including American Idol, and I think she's rather good in this.

George is good as Egerman because he was in the original, played Egerman in the first national tour, and he worked with Hal Prince, whose direction of the original was quite wonderful.

He was Frid the butler and the understudy in the original, right? I had forgotten that.

Earlier today, I had on a DVD from George of "The Best of Broadway" with Len Cariou and Glynis Johns recreating their roles for a brief scene. Seeing them after listening to that album so many thousands of times and seeing the movie and other productions was touching.

At the end of the NYCO production, the cast waltzes out one more time, only problem was that none of the cast members was dancing in time with the music. Very sloppy.

I saw them both on Broadway, the day after I saw PIPPIN.

I have recounted the story of Ms. Johns evidently having been in her cups that night, and almost having been taken out by Boris Aronson's plexiglas birch trees, if not for the quick thinking of Mr. Cariou.

Mrs. Banks in her cups. That's a funny image.

Well, I finished my work for the day. A few hours later than I would have liked, but the story is done. Now, I can watch something and focus on it, too.
