Title: BK VS. THE SPIDER

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were spider-like and spun webs of words, and now it is time for you to post until the spider-like cows come home.

Good morning, all! I slept fitfully and did not want to get up when the alarm went off. I have a few errands to run this morning before I settle into work mode.

Beyond that, I have nothing to report except the TOD:
DVD: the three Netflix items still sit here, Tower Heist, Berg's operas, Lulu and Wozzeck
CD:  Offenbach's "Robinson Crusoe," Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Lorelei's Diary with Carol Channing

When this court thing is over 1st week of March, must tell what has been going on, so glad I never had a divorce or had to deal with child custody issues.   Yuck.    My name was mentioned and I just can not figure out why, except that someone is not getting what they want, or maybe realize that they made a mistake. It's been 5 years, don't people get over it.

My mind and heart have been going crazy, the fear and flight thing has been happening, beyond my control.

 :) OH WELL

Regarding J. EDGAR:

Although I liked it more than BK, it certainly is not one of Eastwood's better films of recent years.

As I said a couple of days ago, I think the story would have worked better as a 8+ hour mini-series, rather than as a 2+ hour movie.  I felt the same way about Lawrence Kasdan's WYATT EARP a few years back.

Regarding BK's CITIZEN KANE comparison:  Yes, there was a slight surprising story twist at the end of J. EDGAR, but unlike with Welles classic, it didn't really help.

In KANE, the "Rosebud" mystery is set up from the start...and it drives the narrative.  Had Eastwood's picture included a "mystery" like that from the start, I think that J. EDGAR would have been much more effective and, indeed, might have worked.

Nevertheless, it did hold my intellectual, if not emotional, interest.

DVD - NIGHT CALLER (aka BLOOD BEAST FROM OUTER SPACE) 1965 low budget British sci-fi B movie, in the Quatermass vein, recently released on the Renown label. Doug, if you can find it, get the Columbia Record club 2 LP release SOUNDSTAGE SPECTACULAR, which is full of beautiful Gregory arrangements.  If you search the site, you'll see I posted about it a long time ago--there are two versions out, get the one with AN ANGEL IS LOVE from Barbarella--one of Gregory's nicest arrangements.

I am In Search of Signs of Intelligent Life In the GOP these days. Does this mean the ladies in the GOP supporting Santorum approve of all the GOP male population is doing to call the shots on women's rights? That is such a frightening thought. I have never seen a group make words like "thinking" or "intelligent" or "broadminded" seem like marks of Cain as they praise and want to return to a past America that never ever existed.

E&T DR Charles Pogue posted the other day on Facebook that he believes the ban on taxing churches should be lifted since the various churches from Roman Catholic to Latter Day Saints to Fred Phelps' travesty to the southern Baptists all insist on interfering with goverment policies. I agree wholeheartedly.

I need to get back on track on my VHS to DVD project this weekend.  I became discouraged a few weeks ago while attempting to convert my VHS copy of the 1984 Tony Awards.  The tape flickers too much and that causes a disruption in the signal, breaking off the copying process to the PC.  Tomorrow, I am going to try copying to my TiVo and then converting from there.  We shall see how it goes...

Went to the Quiet Room in the complex for a brief rest. It's on the third floor with a wall of windows that lets in the afternoon sun. You can sit in a comfortable chair in the warmth of the sun and look out on a segment of town. Very peaceful.

Well, this afternoon, there were two vultures on the ledge right in front of my chair and both held their wings open for about five minutes. Their wingspan is about 4 feet wide. Just beautiful.

I hope they were just interested in their reflections and were not considering me to be carrion.

I believe I may be close to being in Rapture seance.  My shipment arrived today, and while I haven't played it yet, it looks perfect.  This probably won't mean a lot to anyone, but I managed to get the incredibly rare Paul Winter recording Road, which was released on CD for about 10 minutes 20 years ago.  It normally sells for hundreds and I got it for $20.

Congrats, Jeff!

 :) OH WELL

Good vibes for you, Sam!  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And wasn't this, like, the 12th time for Anne Frank?

I hadn't realised how tame my goldfish are. They swim close to the surface of the pond and let me stroke them with my fingers. I'm amazed that all the local cats (including Daisy) don't catch them but maybe the fish are used to me and have the good sense to swim deep when the cats are around!

I'm pretty sure that despite not being a Mormon, Santorum was behind the proxy baptism of Hitler.  ;)

With no offense meant to my Republican brothers and sisters, I really think that SC (Scary candidate) Rick Santorum (if he truly believes all of these things that he says) is a very dangerous man to be gaining such popularity in the polls

Did anyone read that Rick Santorum has accused President Obama of encourage young people to go to college because colleges are "indoctrination mills" that strip young people of their "faith commitment".

Really?

Merciful heavens!!!

At this point, nothing that fool utters surprises me. I find it frightening that someone so bigoted, stupid, misinformed, marrowminded, terrifying and downright ugly could find so many equally repellent voters to give him his fifteen minutes of Public Ugliness.
I'm marrow-minded. Anybody with leftover marrow bones, send them my way.

Anyway, the Washington Post has a horror story on how Santorum is appealing to GOP women. HUH????

With Anita Bryant in the news (since her ex-husband just passed away), I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on - was Anita Bryant any more hostile about homosexuality than the anti-homosexuality people who are run of the mill today?

I don't think so and she apologized later.

I have heard of that one, but haven't seen it yet. It is a Tamil language film, so it would be referred to as a Kollywood.  You may already know,  but each of the major languages/areas of India have there own distinct film industry with their own film stars and directors. Aishwarya Rai worked in south Indian films before she went on to making Hindi films.

She shor is purty!

It is delightfully amusing and sweet. Just a nice feel good movie. The plot is about an express train loaded with people heading to Mumbai for the (arranged marriage) of two people who have no desire to get married to each other, and who conspire to get their families to call off the marriage.

It is the first film for it's director Sunny Bhambhani as well as the four leads, all of whom do a fantastic job.

Here is the trailer. Even the non-Bollywood fans ought to enjoy this.

Thanks for the warm wishes upon my returning to HHW...of coure my being gone was only a temporary thing....sort of like "a girl in trouble..." (referencing a 1980s pop hit).

I meant to ask yesterday if you have finished all the work you had to do.  Have you? ;)

Well, much has been accomplished, but not even nearly finished with any of it.

Good much has been accomplished, not so you you still have much to do.  Will you have to leave us again for awhile?

DR Elmore suggested that I do that again. He says I have a lot more work to  get done.

;D

I'm doing better, TCB. Thanks.

How are YOU doing?

Not so good.  I seem to get worse every day.  But hanging out here helps considerably!

I'm sorry to hear that. Is it the pain or something else?

The pain is about the  same, but my leg and foot just seem to get worse every day.

I just heard from my friends in New Delhi.  They say the latest crazy in Indian films is Barnumwood films.

Theatre: ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED (taking my grand nephew Cole to see it...but I am very afraid!).

DVR: Last night's THE OFFICE

I found last night's THE OFFICE disgusting and a bit creepy.  I think I will find something else to watch on Thursday evenings at 9:00 p.m.

I don't watch it...what happened??

NO SPOILER NEEDED

(becasue this was shown in all of the previews)

Let me just say, Rainn Wilson in nothing but his briefs, and it was downhilll after that.

It started snowing at 3pm. By 4pm it was snowing very hard. I went to pick up my nieces from daycare. But left as soon as my sister got home. It wasn't snowing too much when i left. The driving was okay. But it was very hard to see how the back window and the rear side windows. There should be a lot of snow tonight and overnight.

Jennifer, did you get the snow you expected?

I think we are going to get it (most should be tonight and overnight). It only started at 3pm. But it was snowing very heavily at 4pm. I was parked in a circle at my niece's school. And it was hard to see anything out the windows. But luckily she only lives 2 minutes away.

I should get the results of the MRSA test I took yesterday by Monday or Tuesday.  Then it is just a matter of when the surgeon is available and when the hospital is available.

LOL!  I phrased that like I had to take a written essay test for MRSA.  Actually it was multiple-choice.

Hi all.  More news.  It seems they want me sooner than Tuesday.  I'm going up on Monday and staying through Wednesday.  I hate to say it but I don't know if we will have time for a meet while I'm there because my plane leaves at 7:10 PM.  I know I have to be there by 5 to check in so it would have to be an early dinner.  Shucks.  I was told I'm staying at the Hudson.  I read about guards on the elevators and one person wrote that you go there when you don't want to be found!

Worked at Grant's for four hours - we entered all the fixes, then captioned the photos, which he'd already placed in the book, then we assembled the cover and back cover - all we need now is the flap copy and the blurbs and this puppy can be on the way to the publisher.  I'll post the cover photo at midnight.  I LOVE the cover!

Tonight at "A Bucket of Blood," we had a GREAT audience!  It wasn't filled, but they were responsive and laughed at lines that had never gotten laughs before...and they weren't inappropriate laughs, either!  They obviously loved the show! :D
