Title: THE APRIL FOOLS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written in April and were foolish, and now it is time for you to post until the foolish cows come home.

Good morning, all! I will shortly be out the door to Toyland to accomplish what I did not yesterday. I hope to be back by noon.  I need to scan and email a couple of choral fixes to the DEAREST ENEMY team and wrap this show up.

I've managed to watch nothing this weekend, so perhaps when I return I'll watch a DVD. There are a couple of films I wany to see, but my movie theatre score is batting zero so far for 2012.

Sunday morning greetings!  Fr. Richard excused me from church today after my 3am nosebleed, after which I was unable to go back to sleep until after he left for Lima.  I'm sorry to miss Palm Sunday, but I still have that "cobwebby" feeling in my head that lingers after a nosebleed.  I think my meds are out of whack and I'm glad to have a previously-scheduled doctor's appointment tomorrow.

A bit like when I asked my brother about a book & the author, I wanted to know if the price was worth it.  He thought it was funny as the book was free.  After reading a number of free books I realized my wasted time wasn't worth the price. :)

There are thousands of free books for kindle especially. Even if it's free. You still have to be choosy. If i'm not going to read it then i'm not going to take it just because it's free.

No, you must have your goodreads account set to receive what your "friends" read. I do not ever receive updates so i don't think it would matter. Or i would be getting emails every hour. The only way i can see what my friends are reading is to go into the friends section and look.

Titanic at 100: Television plans a wealth of programming
Julian Fellowes' ABC miniseries 'Titanic,' PBS' 'Saving the Titanic' and a James Cameron National Geographic special are among the various shows with plenty left to say on the subject.

My favorite quote:

"It's sad," says Ballard,…. "You don't poke your finger into the Mona Lisa, you don't go to Gettysburg with a shovel."

der Brucer

Dr. Ballard has been voicing the same complaint since the Nineties, when RMS Titanic Inc. won the world salvage rights.  But the salvage rights only apply to the debris field surrounding the wreckage.  The wreck itself has been explored, but left untouched.  The only exceptions were a couple of the Russian submersibles that have actually landed on different parts on the wreck itself, and the one submersible (rumored to have been working for James Cameron and his movie) that actually ran into the side of the wreck.  This is not fingers in the eye of a painting or shovels in the dirt of a battlefield.  This is not even as intrusive as the archaeological digs that are going on in hundreds of sites around the world each year.

And as a perfect tie in to EASY LISTENING and THE APRIL FOOLS, the first recording of the Bacharach-David theme song to that film was by none other than Percy Faith, who had a minor AC hit with it.

AC = Air conditioning?
Amy Camus? Or was that Yma Sumac?

That is was.

Palm/Passion Sunday was fine.  We had a colt in the procession.  Trying to organize a procession is like trying to herd sheep.  It was crazy, but better than last year.  Still, so hard to do ritual when most of the people aren't "with" you.  Ah well, when you come to church to be "seen", worship usually takes a back seat.

Goodreads sent me an email this morning informing me DR Jennifer has marked............
"as to-read: Album Produced By... by Bruce Kimmel
bookshelves: to-read"

That's funny. Why would goodreads email you that?  I noticed that the book is on goodreads giveaway. But for US only.

I'm always receiving updates on what you read.  If I tracked my books I expect you would receive updates on me.  Do you want me to track them & see what happens?

No, you must have your goodreads account set to receive what your "friends" read. I do not ever receive updates so i don't think it would matter. Or i would be getting emails every hour. The only way i can see what my friends are reading is to go into the friends section and look.

There is probably something you ticked that said you wanted to be notified.

Thanks for the explanation.  Since only you & DR td are my friends I don't receive too many emails from Goodreads.

Okay then that is not too bad. But imagine if you had 1000 "friends" and got an email each time. :)

That would not be good.  I get enough with whatever box I must have checked. ;D  What I receive is a mix of what you are reading, reviewing & plan to read.  I usually give the emails a quick glance or save them to check out the books at a later time.

I wonder if you can check off a box that prevents those emails.  I doubt it since the idea is to share info.  All those people you are friends with can look you up anyway.  I assure you, if I had more than two friends I would not want all of those notifications.  I might want them from people I find I read the same books on a regular basis.

Hi all.  I went to church with Thelma and Bill.   I guess that's a bit of a April Fool joke on God but since the church is still standing, it's ok.  :)

I don't know why DR TCB was having problems with the phone and Facebook.  I would sort of understood if the login had been from the Tampa area--that would have been me in some weird way but even then that shouldn't happen because I set the phone back to it's factory settings before I sent it.

Skipper's is still around...I think.  About 30 years ago, my dad was the manager of the Skipper's in Kent, and they said that if/when they ever opened one in Lacey (where my parents still live), he'd get to be the manager for that.  They did open a Lacey store, but they didn't give him the job. :P He quit.

Jennifer - I thought you had Kobo because you asked about it - I don't know from all these e things. :)  I get that stuff from Goodreads all the time.  I get to see what a lot of people I don't know are reading.

Yes i did mention it because you asked if you were missing any ereaders. And that is the big one in Canada. But like DR Jane said I have a kindle.

You also must have your settings to receive what your "friends" are reading. I am sure there is a very simple thing you can do to change this. I know it would drive me crazy. I get enough emails without knowing what everyone else is reading (although i do love to check to see what people are reading. I just would not want to receive an email updating every single person on my friends list.

How very strange.  And I just received a video showing me what elmore is watching on VHS!

Really got into cooking today. Started the loquat pickles, then made a Hawaiian Horseradish Salad that would be a good harosset for Passover with apples, celery, walnuts and mayo in addition to the horseradish.

Then I made strawberry-loquat empanadas. I've never made empanadas before, so I hope they came out OK. They're too hot at the moment to pick up.

And for dinner: Low-carb tacos. I used cabbage leaves instead of taco shells and filled them with pork belly, radishes, onions, cilantro from the garden, jalapenos and salsa. Mighty fine. And unlike the empanada, they're on the diet.

This is DR Danise's phone, right? Not sure why it would say Kansas. Can you still log in from your computer?

No, I couldn't sign into Facebook on either machine; until I went thru their security system.

Just harvested a load of loquats, which I've started to pickle. First major harvest from this tree, which I planted 11 years ago. And I haven't made a dent in what the tree has one it.

Looks like loquat pie and loquat cobbler this week.

what in the world is a loquat?

A fruit. It's what sweet-and-sour sauce is made from.

Here's a link with more information:

Are they related to kum?

Is there another word that is used to describe pork bellies?  I don't think I have seen those in the stores here.

DR Jennifer I went to Goodreads & couldn't find anything about email options.  I did find several recommendations that looked interesting.  I also rated a number of books.  I will try to be better about doing so which should improve the quality of suggested books for me to read.
I will look around there tomorrow to see if i notice anything.  Off thetop of my head the only thing i can think od is that you ticked the "follow reviews" when you became friends.

Nope. Kumquats are a citrus fruit. These aren't.

No. That's what it is. And except for the place I found it, it's often overpriced. .

Starting to watch "Tanner '88" for the first time in ages. I don't know if I can stomach the fact that the political scene is still as inane and insane as it was back then.

Today, I've been watching TV...a lot of TV.  I also finally decided to clear some things off my DVD burner.  I don't know how much room my DVD burner actually has, but I know how much time I have left:  about 6 hours on the XP speed.  I still have things on there going all the way back 2008!  I just burned a DVD of pop/rock performers on TV talk shows...performers like John Legend, OK Go, Weezer, Maroon 5...just a bunch of totally random songs that I liked.  The newest musical clip that I decided to burn is November 2011.  This first disc is about 2 hours long, so that's 2 hours cleared off.

Just had to share. :)

Back from an absolutely great show - more in the notes, but it really could not have gone better, with one tiny exception which had nothing to do with the show itself or the sound and lighting, but with the digital grand piano.  We're now all going to actively pressure Michael Sterling to get a real piano in there.
