Title: THAT'S A GOOD SANDWICH
Post by: bk on June 14, 2012, 08:51:48 PM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a good sandwich, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently saying, "That's a good sandwich" for no reason whatsoever.

Morning all.  Hope BK is enjoying his NY visit.  I wrote on fb last night that I wasn't sure how to wish an author good luck so the best I could come up with was "Break a pencil".

Vibes to all who need or want them.

Special travel vibes to DS Zach.  Special Here He Comes vibes to China. :)

Laters!

Good morning, all! I awoke at 5:50am with a verse from Gershwin's 1924 PRIMROSE running through my head. It tok me 30 minutes to figure out what the song came from; I kept thinking it was a Kern melody. I remember little of my dreams, but one had something to do with The Drama Book Shop but not about tonight's presentation.

So, in another hour or so, I will be at Kinko's at 72nd Street with several large scores to be bound. I'll then take the subway downtown, stop at Toyland to pick up a few 8.5x11 libretti and scores that I will haul over to the McGlinnventory and bind. After that, I will return to Toyland and then head home to work on these blasted liner notes.

Then I have this event later.

All I am listening to for the next couple of days is the final mix of EILEEN.

TCB, in the hilarious clip of Tony winning women that some posted yesterday, there was a reminder that one doesn't have to sing to win a Tony for best actor/actress. Makarova won for "On Your Toes" and has no singing part.

I don't remember if anyone here was a fan or not, but I just got a Groupon offer for the complete DVD set of "24."

http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-24-the-complete-series?c=all&p=3

Groupon says the value of the set (including shipping) is $356.00, and Groupon is offering it for $110.  Only one day left to purchase and is a limited quantity.  I have no idea if this is a good deal or not, but there you have it.

I would rather eat fresh vomit while having a colonoscopy (without anesthesia) performed by a leper who leaves with 4 fingers.

From what I've seen or heard, I don't think ROCK OF AGES is *that* bad.  But even though 80's music is one of my favorite genres, I just don't feel any particular need to see this movie.

I don't know. I was in college when that all that hair parading as music was popular and I'm not sure if Ben isn't on the side of right on this matter.

And I am home.

and I have good news. Remember all those request for office vibes? Here's the story: Toyland is closing and the institute is moving the work to another office in another city; I've been the only employee left on payroll and call, although all I've done for the past year is check in about once aweek to insure there are no breakins or problems, and use the office when I've needed a workspace outside my home. I've not submitted an invoice to the institute since March 2011, but I'm working with another foundation, and I have no complaints. So, knowing the lease expires on July 31, I thought, what if I could get the office for my team to use for music copying, theatre restoration, and other jobs?

The lease is now signed and I am staying there. Toyland will move out and the New Princess Theatre Company will move in.  I'm hoping we can purchase some of the office furniture and equipment from the Institute, and that's still in the air. I can't imagine they'd want to hold onto it, since all they really need are our computer files. So, thank you all for the positive vibes.

BroadwayWorld.com has learned that casting is now under way for a 29-hour reading of ANASTASIA - A New Musical, based on the hit 1997 animated motion picture from Fox Animation Studios. The musical, which is in its Early Stages of development will feature the five songs from the film along with fifteen new songs written for the stage.

I walked two miles so far today.  I went down to Academy Records and looked around - bought three cheap CDs I didn't have, including a Spanish import of the RCA album Jack the Ripper with music by Pete Rugolo.  Sadly, Skyline Books, which was directly across the street, is no more.  Are there any bookshops left?

Just shaved and in about thirty minutes I'll shower, then at four-ten I'll mosey on over to the Drama Book Shop.  They asked me to get there at four-thirty to check in.  Then I will hopefully have five minutes alone with Lanny downstairs to run a song before they bring the people down.  Really hoping for a decent turnout.  On my walk to 18th Street I had one of those impossible NY encounters - ran into Ryan Raftery, who was in What If at the Hudson Theatre.

Oy! Two weeks to deadline and all hell is beginning to break loose with questions on tracking sequence, recording personnel, etc.

I am not going to stress out as I did during BK's last visit, because i want to see him tonight. I may not be attending the Metropolitan Room on Sunday, though, because of the deadline, and that bums me out. We'll have to see how much I accomplish by Sunday afternoon, and, to add to the problem, I have every note I ever wrote on EILEEN sitting before me EXCEPT for the sheet on which I copied down the 1917 article on why the title was changed. Where the fat hell is it?

I hope there is a typo in this paragraph:

BroadwayWorld.com has learned that casting is now under way for a 29-hour reading of ANASTASIA - A New Musical, based on the hit 1997 animated motion picture from Fox Animation Studios. The musical, which is in its Early Stages of development will feature the five songs from the film along with fifteen new songs written for the stage.

What do you hope the typo is?  Do you mean 29-hour reading?

Maybe Liz Callaway will do the singing voice of Anastasia like she did in the movie?
Kelsley Grammar, Bernadette Petters recreating their roles?
The story said Angela Lansbury was taking part. And that 15 additional songs had been  written to supplement the film score.

Oh, I see the confusion!  A "29-Hour reading" is just industry-speak for the whole process for the Equity actors being 29 hours, including all rehearsal time and the readings themselves, though.

Wow, and perfect for you.   Good luck getting a good deal on the furniture and equipment!!!!

Adelaide and I had a wonderful time at the signing, which, as anyone would have predicted, we couldn't stay for the whole of.  Great to see so many of the old gang, and the store staff amazingly nice.
Someday, when I remind Adelaide she met a great record producer when she was six months old, I know just what she'll say:

Friday evening greetings!  I was awake at 4am (insomnia), up at 5:30, and on the road to Yellow Springs by 7:30 for an all-day grantwriters' conference.  It was quite interesting, even though the keynote speaker had to appear via teleconference because she's recovering from an illness that precluded cross-country travel.

And I am home from a festive evening! It was nice to see our E&T DR Noel there with his adorable Adelaide, and i'm sorry I didn't get the chance to visit with them. The crowd for the reading was modest but cherce, and I'll let BK tell you all about that.

His reading was a great deal of fun. Guy Haines didn't show up, so BK sang "Evening Star" from 110 IN THE SHADE. Then there was a question and answer session before we were told the Book Shop would soon close and it was time to sign some books. The 100 minutes of BK's event flew by.

Then BK, myself, and DRs Ben, ChasSmith, FJL, and our E&T producerJulie went to Joe Allen for a very festive dinner and madness. it was a partay! The perfect way to end a damned good day.
