Good Morning
I Will Be On Vacation For One Week to Return On July 9..See Ya Then
Last night I watched a VHS copy of the 1953 Disney film THE SWORD AND THE ROSE, which I hadn't seen since its first release when I was six or seven. After all the seasons of THE TUDORSwith their bumping humping grinding nudity and skinny Henry VIII, it was interesting to see Disney's take on a Victorian novel's look at the same Tudor court. I quite enjoyed the film. The color was beautiful, and late in the film, when Glynis Johns as Mary Tudor, Henry VIII's sister, slugged villain Michael Gough with an oar, I had a sense of deja vu and was back in the Middletown OhioParamount Theatre, where I first saw the film.
It was interesting to see a film where Katherine of Aragon isn't a suffering victim of Henry's adultery but a bitch, and I womder if the pretty young thing dancing the La Volta with Henry was Anne Boleyn. I loved the actor playing Henry, and both Richard Todd and Glynis Johns look like fantasies of Disney heroes and heroines. It was a great deal of fun, and I've discovered that the film isavailable on DVD as a "special" to members of the Disney Movie Club. I may have to join to get myself a copy.

Never saw that - it would be interesting to see it. Unfortunately Disney haven't taken much interest in making available their early '50s live action films.
Here's a photograph of the East Coast Singer and me right after the second show. She's lovely!

Nice to see those pictures.

Why are they doing a remake (sort of) of THE SOUND OF MUSIC? Even as a live event on network (NBC) television, is there really a need?
Such lovely photos from MR BK.
Yes DR CHAS SMITH - I am hoping that MR BK's recording of FOLLIES is my ticket to understanding the show - or at least liking it a little more. I think I have all of the Midnite Movie series DVD's......I enjoy most of them.....
DR JOHN G I hope you enjoy Miss June Kenney in her defining role in ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE......
Thank you one and all for your thoughts and concerns regarding my fellow high school graduate. It isn't the first time that I have thought about this as another danger of living alone. Granted, chocking on food is not one ofthe Top Ten reasons for dying, but it is a scary thought. I have only one apartment in my section of the building that I can reach in my wheelchair.
Perhaps I will have to give up eating any food at home.

I love most of the music from FOLLIES, but I can't say that I think the show itself is great. Perhaps, had I seen the original production, like BK did, I would like the show more than I do.

DR TCB, when I was teaching college in 1971, the head of the department was going through a divorce and he was separated from his wife who lived ay their house with the children. He was a pig who'd knocked up one of his students. Anyway, that's not the story here. His wife choked to death on a sandwich duting lunch and one of the boys came home to find her dead on the kitchen floor.
For years I have worried about a similar death.
TCB---I'm sorry about your classmate.
All right, what the hell's the problem? You'd think people had no electricity or computer access!
DAMN! I got suckered, again, by the way they show their pricing. It's $19.95. They always highlight the half-off price, or whatever their current promotion is. (That reminds me of why I've bought so few things from them.) Sorry about that.
Skip should be getting back from his weekend jaunt to Connecticut.
Sorry for having been E&T. Now to catch up.
My work is done. I am going to watch Richard Todd in Disney's STORY OF ROBIN HOOD from 1952.
I have that one but haven't watched it.
BTW, I'm a member of Disney Movie Club. Joined a few years ago to get a couple of things that were otherwise unavailable, such as a couple of Walt Disney Treasures, and a few of the exclusive titles like THE SWORD AND THE ROSE that you posted about earlier. I don't have that one, but if you want it, I'd be happy to order it. Unless there are several things right off the bat that you KNOW you want from them, it is NOT worth joining.
Very interesting! The weather is much nicer today than yesterday. Today it is sunny, a little windy, but still sunny. And yet there are a lot less people heading for the Taste of Tacoma than yesterday.
I think I will now watch ROB ROY, the third in the Disney series of British adventures, with Richard Todd and Glynis Johns. For all I know, it too is a Ken Annakin movie. Since reading Sir Walter Scott is a nearly impossible task - has anyone read a Scott novel? -
Why don't the 3 Guests have to post?
Back from watching AS GOOD AS IT GETS which, for some reason, I had never seen. Loved it. And what a beautiful Blu-ray. Twilight Time scores again -- not that I'd expect anything less.

Just remember the Allegro is twice the speed of the Andante opening.
I've taken a cold bath and feel quite refreshed.

A cold bath? How hot is it in New York today?

Thanks, Kevin. I am glad that ruined frozen food is the worst of the damage you suffered. That storm looked scary!
KevinH, here's a story from the Washington Post on what food to keep and what to pitch:

Did she reach in her pocket and silence it? The old ladies don't know how to silence their phones. I have shown a few afterwards.
We've had them go off before, but this was during communion. Pretty hard to ignore.
Love the cell-phone-in-church stories!I do, too. As much as don't care for cellphones, I know they will go off at the least likely of times. And thankfully, forgiveness is a great part of what services are all about, right?
Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight after a very restless night in Lima - 'night!
I made Experiment for dinnerYum. My favorite.
Oh, my! I am glad you got home safely. Youse guys are getting our monsoon storms, it seems.
Oy. We had one ring during a funeral once. The lady answered and conducted a conversation.
We made "Lemon Mistake" once. Forgot the sugar.

BlueGobo's new clip is of Lotte Lenya singing "Green Up Time," which is a lot of fun, not the least because the singers in this 1960s show include an interracial couple who actual touch.
Just finished the first draft of the Follies liner notes. I'm sure there will be much finessing, and then, as a courtesy, I'll send them to my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim, just for fact-checking.

I don't suppose that there'd be any possibility of signed booklets, would there?
:)
Happy Canada Day to all you guys up there!
