Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a honey of the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the honey of the cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOLSTICIAL!
-
Thursday morning greetings! First post after BK = Insomnia.
-
Hi all.
Just wanted to let you know that John did pass away yesterday with Thelma at his side. Thank you all again for the wonderful vibes. I'm sure they helped to ease his passing.
-
Have a wonderful day and vibes to all who need them.
-
Good morning, all.
Sorry for yours and Thelma's loss, Danise.
Cooling vibes for those facing another scorcher today.

TOD: When I was 7, we went to visit family in Germany. On the Fourth of July, we were in Heidelberg where the Americans set off a huge fireworks show over the castle. The beauty of that scene was made even more memorable by the addition of a couple of people somewhere in the crowd bellowing "Ooooooooooooh," "Aaaaaaaaaaaaah," "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeh," "O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-h" over and over again. Soon everyone joined in. My Mom, my sisters and I still do that every time we're together when we see fireworks.
-
Good morning, all! It was a night of peculiar dreams, most of which I no longer remember. I remember one about sorting music on a shelf for a camera crew.
Today, I will head to Toyland, pack up half of the orchestra parts for DEAREST ENEMY and tote them off to the McGlinnventory mail room, where they will be shipped to Dublin. After that I will kill time until I head to the 2:00 matinee of ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS. I look forward to it.
DR George, I was asking about the Complete Show Boat laser disc set because it had fascinating extras. I can live with never seeng the 1951 SHOW BOAT ever again. The 1936 one is the great one.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I actually slept late (for me) this morning.
I got up around 6:30 and had some breakfast and now I'm on the patio with the laptop.
It was horribly hot yesterday. I was outside for part of it but I just couldn't take it anymore so I spent a chunk of the afternoon in the house with the AC.
I can tell it's going to be another hot day.
We are seeing a friend for lunch, which will be spent indoors and then whatever the rest of the day brings.
-
I'm' kind of interested in seeing Guv'nors. If I can get a TDF ticket I will see it.
-
I'm here all alone so I will retreat to get ready for the day.
-
DR George, I was asking about the Complete Show Boat laser disc set because it had fascinating extras. I can live with never seeng the 1951 SHOW BOAT ever again. The 1936 one is the great one.
I agree, though I'd like to see the 1929 version.
-
Audra MacDonald is talking on the news this morning about what a great role Bess is and how she's wanted to play it since she was a wee tot; that's a far cry from her pre-production comments on how this crap revisal is fixing all of the problems and holes in Bess' character and the original piece.

The 1929 version is quite wonderful, much more faithful to the novel.

HOT TODAY again.....whew!
And tonight is a run through.....but without costumes.....
-
My alarm clock went off at the usual time yesterday morning and I was in the shower before I remembered it was the Fourth of July. But even so, I felt oddly energized and spent the early morning cleaning and organizing my back porch (it serves as a greenhouse and storage for yardwork tool and tends to become cluttered with whatnot during the winter and spring.) I then ventured out into the heat to run a few errands which turned out to be easier than I anticipated since every place was open for business (even my bank!) Though I was happy for the convienience, I feel bad for the people who had to work.
It also felt strang that it was the first Fourth of July in years where I did not go to someone's backyard picnic. It was just too hot and humid to be outdoors for me. Feh! on this weather, I say...
-
HOT TODAY again.....whew!
And tonight is a run through.....but without costumes.....
Well, that could be refreshing. Also give everyone a different perspective...
-
TOD:
I don't think I ever had a 4th of July meal that didn't consist of hamburgers and/or hot dogs with potato salad on the side.
-

I have adored Audra MacDonald for years and I loved Diane Paulus' work on the HAIR revival, but I can't get over their borderline arrogance regarding PORGY & BESS. My anger is such that I can't yet bring myself to even listen to the recording, let alone purchase it.
Hopefully, we won't be hearing Paulus griping that Bob Fosse sexed up PIPPIN in the original production.
-
Am I misremembering? I vaguely recall an opera or some kind of musical stage work based on DOUBLE INDEMNITY...
-
An interesting feature of the Criterion set of "Double Indemnity" was that it featured a made-for-TV remake with Samantha Eggers and Richard Crenna. It wasn't the original, by any means, but it also wasn't the worst remake ever, either. Eggers had the smoldering sexuality the part called for.

I hear enough of the crappy new orchestrations and arrangements in the tv clips and commercials!
-
Condolences to DR Danise and her friend Thelma over the passing of their friend John.
Ditto from Me!
And greetings from Toyland!
-
Is Paulus involved in a PIPPIN revival? Oh dear.....or oh deer.....as the case may be.
-
hello, goodbye.
That's all I got. Off to camp
-
Good morning. I took the measuring tape out of the drawer, and now my DH is hiding because he is afraid I am going to have a project for him later this morning.

Thursday morning greetings! First post after BK = Insomnia.
Good morning, again. I went back to bed about 6am and slept until 9. Weird night...

Page two Whippin' Pippin Dance!

So, the word "beneficiary" is deemed a bit too legal for some I work with (at an insurance company). "Family" isn't necessarily those to whom a person leaves his money, however, so it's not quite right. Thesaurus.com recommends "crown prince/princess" as one synonym. Hmm. Don't think that's it, either.
-
We had rain yesterday. And cool (for us at this time of year) weather. How great is that?!!
-
I am pleased to announce that I have finally graduated from the ONE-person play.
PUTZ is a TWO-person play, and it is somewhat autobiographical.
Please watch the trailer, then read the play. I know that you will enjoy (and quite possibly) identify with them.

DR GINNY - great news about a projected trip to London next year!!!

DR JOHN G you could always use "chosen one" or "designated recipient."

Good morning, again. I went back to bed about 6am and slept until 9. Weird night...
I hope this doesn't mean now that you and Richard have abandoned the Methodists for the anglicans that you're into kinky sects?

HOT TODAY again.....whew!
And tonight is a run through.....but without costumes.....
Without costumes! Perhaps you should charge admission to this rehearsal!
-
The orchestra parts are now in the hands of the shippers and I am killing time until I head off to see the matinee.
The traffic is a breeze today, and I had two wonderful taxi drivers to help me with my bundles. I am going to cart the string parts over to the McGlinnventory on Saturday morning so they will be packed and waiting at the office for shipment on Monday. All is good,
-
Nicky wanted me to get up and give him breakfast at five o'clock. I argued for an extra hour. At six o'clock I was ready to get up, but I had a terrible time getting Nicky, the slumbering log, to move so that I could get out of bed.

DR Elmore :o
My next post will be a milestone, so I don't want it to be a kvetch. I've just purchased, from the iTunes Store, the ONCE cast album. The download was slow, but is now complete. My printer ran out of unicorn blood ink in the middle of printing the booklet.

So, here is the milestone post that I've seen coming for a few days now. Thank you all for being here for the ups and downs of my life over the past 8 years :-*

DR George, I was asking about the Complete Show Boat laser disc set because it had fascinating extras. I can live with never seeng the 1951 SHOW BOAT ever again. The 1936 one is the great one.
The 1951 "Show Boat" is memorable for its amazing orchestrations, especially the underscore arrangements.
And then there is that hauntingly sad, beautiful shot of Ava Gardner at the end.

Congrats on your millstone, Ginny!

Thursday morning greetings! First post after BK = Insomnia.
Good morning, again. I went back to bed about 6am and slept until 9. Weird night...
I made the mistake last evening of drinking regular diet Pepsi instead of decaf diet Pepsi and I was bug-eyed awake until 1:00 am...

I agree, though I'd like to see the 1929 version.
The 1929 version is quite wonderful, much more faithful to the novel.
It's strange...it's a part talkie/part silent, and there's a lot of actual silence...no music or underscoring for a goodly portion of it.
-
I watched "The Artist" last night. I had pre-ordered it shortly after it won the Oscar for Best Picture/Actor/Director/Score, etc. When it arrived last week, I was not sure I was ready to see it.
Some movies get overhyped so much that watching them is like an event that cannot live up to that hype. I'm happy to report that this movie DID live up to its hype...primarily because it was so much more than what I'd read about it. The two leading performances are absolutely superb. Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejon are beyond belief, IMO. They truly seem to be from the silent movie era. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
-
I'm up already. I awoke at nine-twenty, stayed in bed and fell back asleep around ten. Now it's almost noon.

Well DR GEORGE - I am taking the actresses the jewelry from the vault, so they will at least be wearing THAT.

We're told we can expect two months of rain in the next two days. That's good - I shouldn't need watering the plants for the next two months.

Okay, I've just finished the overture, but it's good. :D

DR Doug R - what kind of weather should Richard and I expect in January? We'll be in London/Norwich/London.
Well January is the coldest month with temperatures around 40F. It's rare to get snow in London or even Norwich. Could be wet though.

How interesting, DougR. I would love to know more about this archiving project.
The Cinema Theatre Association has thousands of items of press cuttings, programmes, photographs etc, mainly sent in by members, which needs cataloging and filing. There's a lot of fascinating material which goes back decades and much had been kept by a member who died and which was passed to the archive for sorting out. A working group is also involved in research to digitilize the collection. There are loads of filing cabinets containing files for every cinema in every town and city in Britain. Sorting it all is a daunting task.

ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS is a slapstick delight with an amazing cast. Carlo Goldoni's mid-18th century commedia SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS has been turned into a farce set in 1963 Brighton with a neo-1960s rock and roll score played, primarily, by a wonderful 4-piece band along with occasional musical moments from the cast. It's absolutely brilliant and outrageously naughty and funny. Goldoni's plot and most of his business are kept and, once rolling, it gets crazier and crazier.
The Act One closer is a masterpiece of complete insanity: a meal for the two masters served by the leading man and two waiters, one of them an 87 year-old on a pacemaker, and an assist from a lady in the audience, gets loonier and loonier with the old waiter throttled, falling or thrown down stairs, knocked down and slammed by opening and closing doors till you think you can laugh no more. The staging and the comic timing are brilliant, as is the cast, stepping in and out of character to address the audience. Most of the songs act as interludes, having nothing to do with the plot, but the curtain call, with everyone singing and dancing various dances of the early 60's like the Pony, and I kept thinking, DR JRand61 would really love this.
As to our leading man who won the Tony for Best Actor: perfection.
A lot of youtube clips from the show in London and New York; this clip of excerpts is good:

Evening all. Thank for all the kind words about John. I shall pass them along to Thelma.

George, the overture to Merrily is one of my favorites.
Look forward to hearing your opinion of this particular cast.

It will be most highlighted in the announcements, but I didn't want anything competing with the art.

I've picked up a couple of packages, including the early arrival of the important envelope, and I did some banking. I ate two tuna sandwiches again (that craving is now done) and I'm watching episode one of the TV version of Beck - different cast to get used to, awful 1990s shaky-cam (not the same as today, but just as bad and pointless) and we'll see if it's to my liking or not.
-
There are all these commercials being broadcast lately - Corolla, Time Warner Cable are my two least faves - and after they end, I think what the fat hell did that piece of crap commercial mean or even have to so with selling a product?
-
It's a good thing I'm not God. I'd destroy lives.

TOD: In the early 1980s in Indianapolis ... probably July 4, 1980 or 1981. The entire downtown area -- from the circle to the library -- was cordoned off for a major celebration/street fair/evening concert. People-watching was great, there were bands and the food vendors everywhere with great food offerings. The Indianpolis Symphony started playing at dusk. On tap for that event was the world premiere of John Williams' symphonic arrangement of music from "Star Wars". Quite unexpected and thrilling. We had the William Tell Overture for the fireworks display, naturally.

I don't wish her ill.

But I am learning to cope a bit better with how I feel.

:o Yikes! Hope you're able to get it straightened out easily, Iris!

We do need a few more folks. We've lost really only two or three key people, and others have just made Facebook their home, which is kind of nauseating but it becomes all about them there where we're all just a little group here. And if you see the stuff they post there - these silly one-liners that almost no one ever sees - much nicer here, I have to say. Remember, neither MySpace or Facebook existed when we began our journey. I was one of a handful of folks and the ONLY one who was doing it every single day, to put their life out there for all to see. I was, I think, a bit of a pioneer in that regard. Not every once in a while, but every single day for over ten years now.
-
Thanks for the email vibes-I think the problem has been fixed.
I'll know for certain if I no longer hear from friends about Viagra offers they're receiving from me.
-
After reading all of the new Follies info, I have decided to read, once again, the book by Ted Chapin-
Everything Was Possible.
-
Such a fascinating account of the creation of Follies.
Good pics too.

Heading out to walk on the beach in the fog.
Have a good night, everyone!

Watching the rest of "West Side Story." I don't think I've ever seen this without commercials.

And on that note (F#), I'm off.
Be back later.

I think I liked everything except for Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer.
-
Night, all.

Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening.

This post is coming to you LIVE from Rochester NY, where I, DR ChasSmith, have just entered the phase in life which will be identified by my biographers as "his post-ROBOT MONSTER in 3D period."

Do people still use MySpace?

Finished the second Beck movie. I'm now getting used to the new cast. It's a little unnerving that the actor who plays Beck in the TV series is the actor who plays Martin Vanger in the Dragon Tattoo Swedish films.

Does anyone still wear a hat?

Listened to six out of fourteen tracks for an upcoming release - since those six tracks total less than eight minutes, one can only hope the remaining tracks are longer.

Now listening to Maurice Jarre's score for Topaz.

I'll drink to that. And one to Sondheim

Tonight's mixes: Could I Leave You?, You're Gonna Love Tomorrow/Love Will See Us Through, and The God-Why-Don't-You-Love-Me Blues. That leaves four more tracks. One More Kiss wasn't on the tape where it should have been, so we're hoping it was at the end somewhere - if it's not, that one we'll have to use from the CD, I guess, but we'll at least make it sparkle.
