I read this a few years ago - I believe it was recommended to me by the much missed E & T DR td -- I greatly enjoyed it!!!
My two cents on "One More Kiss": The show's fans know the history of its not having been included on the original vinyl album. With the release of the CD and the song's inclusion, it was presented in order with, as I recall, a footnote about the aural quality. To make yours different, I would include it at the end with a similar footnote, because as you state on the cover, this is the remixed and remastered recording, but "One More Kiss" won't be.
TOD:
I would have to echo DR John G. and say that the original A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is still, after all these years, my favorite recording. Not only because it was my first Sondheim OCR, but because of the sheer (for lack of a better word) intelligence of the score. The interplay throughout between the surprising and humorous rhymes and rhythms of the lyrics and the waltz variations that vary from playful to challenging demand that you pay attention and experience every number. Like listening to Mozart, I feel smarter after listenting to this recording.
Aurally, it's I think it's just about perfect (though I think "Now/Soon/Later" and the ending of "A Weekend In The Country" are a bit muddy.) I'm not crazy about the extended "Night Waltz" on the CD rerelease--the mid section sounds like they just looped through twice--there's no variation. But I do love the inclusion of Night Waltz II--it's one of my favorite parts of the recording now.

Or maybe have Dame Edna come in and record a new version. :)
Whew! Got the photos uploaded to the CURIOUS SAVAGE album....some of them good, some of them not.
Last Dress Rehearsal was okay..... Everyone looked good. Tonight is family picture night - the family and friends of the cast can come to watch a dress rehearsal and take photos.
It's good to have an audience of some kind to hear some laughs and response.....
Late last night I knew I would fall asleep watching something, but I definitely wanted to have something on, so I chose a Midnite Movies DVD for which I'd never seen the movies at all:
COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE and RETURN OF COUNT YORGA.
I had no idea what to expect, and what I got seemed in my drowsy state like something fairly unusual in terms of pacing and atmosphere. I was delighted to see a few 1970 L.A. location shots, but dozed through the last half of the first, then dutifully got up and turned the flipper disc over and started the second, and missed even more of that one. But little bits of them would work their way into dreams, so the whole thing was rather surreal, and the second film seemed to go on forever. I even checked the running time to see if it hadn't actually lasted three or four hours. So, a bizarre night on the TV couch. It'll be interesting to watch these in the cold light of day to see what the heck actually goes on.

Not yet sure on what I think is the worst sounding recording.
As much as I love listening to PIPPIN, I wish the score had been recorded as it was presented on stage. I don't know if it was Motown or Phil Romone or Stephen Schwartz deciding to remove any sense of Fosse's staging but the OCR is not half as fun as it could have been.
Danise, best of luck with all that is going on at work. I hope that whatever happens, it turns out to be the very best thing for you!Double dose of vibes.
I got my copy of the ONE MAN TWO GUVNERS cast album today! Thanks to DR ELMORE for mentioning it last week, I didn't know such a thing existed. I did get the British recording...although I guess an American one is also available, but without a lot of the British musicians.

DR JRand61, you might be right, but I believe the published script, as well as the recording, are the National Theatre British materials with new covers. I also can't tell if the show is closing on Sept 2 or if that's the date when the National Theatre players go back to London and, if the show continues, it's with American replacements.

All these cd's at once!!! And this is my POOR season.....hope I can keep up!
Although I did do one final thing last night. One actor who is an irritant......full of suggestions for others.... interrupted my notes last night to ask a question.
In case you don't know the play - the last few moments of the play, the residents of the Cloisters go into a dream state....Jeffrey is playing the piano, Hannibal (the said actor) plays the violin after screeching the strings all through the play, a plain girl wears a beautiful dress, a mother who lost her child is embracing a real live child, and a woman who paints straight lines is painting a beautiful seascape.
Hannibal has the last line: "Here is your song" after which he scratches on the violin, there is a light change, and he joins Jeffrey who is already playing the piano.
Hannibal puts some tape over his strings - and he said last night: "Can I have just a smidgen more time....I need to get the tape on the strings...." Well he has never disguised it....even though the lights are down, the audience can see that he is doing something....and he always misses his cue anyway....so....I said: "No. I tell you what. You have the tape on the violin when you come out. You say the line and then we will do the light change. No scratching on the strings at the end....."
I told the light operator, lights change when he says the line.....no extra music. So he lost a bit of business for being a pain in the ass for the last six weeks.

If these scientists knew that the Lethal Toxin-Neutralizing Factor (LTNF) worked well enough to give it a name, why did they wait to break the news?
So, I didn't see any followup to the threat of hundreds of thousands of computers dying yesterday. Was it a hoax?
I enjoyed "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines." Just don't make me sit thru a double feature where it is paired with "Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies." I didn't like that one at all.
It apparently did inspire "Jalopies" four years later. I see some comments to the effect that they might have used some footage from it, and Tony Curtis was in it. But it was also directed by Ken Annakin and scored again by Ron Goodwin. It must have been really imitative of both earlier films.
Has this already been posted here?
This guy got coaxed out of a coma by music from MACK AND MABEL, and now has financed a new production of that show in London

I don't really remember what I didn't like about the movie. I just remember being bored. Maybe it was because it was so similar to the other two films.
"Those Magnificent Men..." had dialogue bits in between music tracks.

It's not as good as either of the two 1965 films. BUT...it has a great title song that was sung by Jimmy Durante (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tEBXZjJfVQ)that assures it a memorable place in cinema history (if only for the song). It also had wonderful titles by Ronald Searle who did the ones for TMMITFM!

LOL that's the one I meant. Heat's got me.
Oh yes DR TCB....come October I will be rolling in $$$$.
My sister has arrived safely from Michigan. Please excuse me in advance for being E & T for much of the next 3 days while we play!Have fun.
Busying myself on the computer I completely forgot that I'd left a saucepan on the stove. Ignoring the strange smell I carried on working until I finally looked in the kitchen to find it had boiled dry. Annoyingly, I'd only bought the saucepan last week which is now ruined.I've done that before. Hate it when it happens. That's why I love my electric kettle. It turns itself off.
Potential great news: Capitol thinks they found One More Kiss. A single small one inch tape. Mislabeled as a soundtrack. If its the eight track we are home free. Won't know till later or tomorrowFingers crossed. Eyes crossed.

I can't remember if I even saw that one. I just checked to see when it was released, and it wasn't till 1969, four years later. I'd thought it wasn't long after "Magnificent Men".
Also "Magnificent Men" was released in June 1965 and "The Great Race" in July, and I'd been thinking of "The Great Race" as the film that kind of inspired the other one. Crazy, man.

I saw both "Magnificent Men" and The Great Race" when they first opened. I enjoyed both but prefered "Great Race". The humour in "Magnificent Men" was too broad and slapstick for me and I find it quite tedious to watch now. I liked the film references throughout "Great Race" which also had, IMO the better cast.
Oh, what potentially GREAT NEWS from Capitol!!

To answer your question DR Jane, I wouldn't lose my seniority or vacation/sick time. I might take a hit in pay but it is also possible that since I'm not even to mid point (thanks to the raise freeze we have suffered this past FIVE years) they may decide to keep me at my current level. It's possible because the job is just one step/level down from my current position. I just have to cross my fingers that it happens.

DR's Druxy, John G, & George, thanks for the additional vibes.
Craig called AFTER class today :)
He was able to begin the 8:30-3:30, 3 times a week class in the morning and register during the break. The school is a very convenient 15 minutes, by public transportation, from the house he is staying at.
After our conversation he was headed for a coffee shop for something to eat and to see if he could access his school link and download his work.

In the movies, whenever a doctor is talking a patient into being a human guinea pig (to save their life), you never hear them say, "Oh, by the way, you have a 50 / 50 chance of getting a placebo.
I guess nobody would want to make a film about the person who got the placebo.

DR George I hope this years keynote speaker isn't getting paid to speak.
the good news is we have indeed found the eight-track One More Kiss. The less than good news is they probably can't transfer it this week, although I've pleaded with them to try and squeeze it in - otherwise we'll have it at the beginning of the week, but at least we'll have it.

Well folks, it seems I've done it again. I just stepped in from the walk in clinic. This time I had an "interesting' reaction to "something". What I don't know. My eyes are so swollen they are almost shut. And while I assure you it looks far worse then it feels, It's not fun either.
The folks at the walk in clinic were great. I think I scared the sh*t out of them when I walked in. I just said I think I'm having some kind of reaction to something and after one look at my face, man did they spring into action. One took me by arm and I was put on a gurney toot sweet while they checked my bp, temp, etc. They kept asking if I felt my throat getting tight but I wasn't having any kind of breathing problem.
The doctor couldn't believe I drove myself there and wasn't sure I would be allowed to drive myself home but he had to.
I got a shot that hurt like the dickens (still hurts truth be told) and 3 prescriptions.
Anyway, I'm home, safe, going to take my contacts out here in a moment and take the pills I got. Then I'm going to bed. I was told not to lay flat but I don't do that anyway because of the sleep apnea.
What an exciting life I have.
No worries, I'm fine. Just practicing my oriental look. :)
Follies packaging is approved, it's all gone to the printers and we will announce at midnight tomorrow.
Great news about "One More Kiss."
Finished with my viewing. I'll make Follies available to you dear readers at midnight this very evening.
