Title: IN A WORD
Post by: bk on July 13, 2012, 12:19:39 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were, in a word, notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - in a word, they will be home very soon.  Well, that's six words.  I hate when that happens.

Although we aren't in a "heat wave" I have been turning on the AC at night because I'm finding it difficult to sleep without it.

Tomorrow I'm getting a haircut.

That's all for now.

Last night's opening night went well.....there were some line mishaps, but we had a very nice audience.....about 3/4's of a house.....and we are nearly sold out tonight.....

However the man didn't show up to do the slide show/promo DVD - and he has NEVER told anyone else how to do it.....so we couldn't figure out how to get the picture from the tech office television to the television in the lobby.....which also meant NO preshow or Intermission music....   AND he didn't answer calls or texts.

I am a bit worried that no one has heard from him.....but perhaps he will answer some texts or emails today.

Thanks to everyone for their show vibes and for their thoughts for Vickie.  They are much appreciated.

RE: SMASH and the character of Sam.

There were definitely some episodes towards the end where his part became bigger. I'm sure that somebody could find the exact episodes when they did the out of town try-out in Boston. Because his part was definitely bigger in those episodes.

Good morning, all.  I'd like to think that I'd still be somewhat solidly asleep if I hadn't had to get up to put the trash out.  But we will never know now, will we.  Because that horse has sailed and that ship has left the barn.

Got the Mr. Producer article open on the next tab, to read as soon as I come back from refilling the coffee cup.

The reaction to the FOLLIES release is really exciting.  I've said it before, but I so look forward to this being my gateway to learning/appreciating the show.

I swore last night that I would sit down and watch GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDS from beginning to end and pay strict attention to it.  Yet fifteen minutes in, I found my mind wandering and before I knew it I had my iPad in my hands and I was browsing through Twitter.  There just is something about that movie in that it always fails to hold me--it's like the TV is not even on while the film is running.  It is a mystery to me...

I don't think I've ever seen GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES all the way through.  Might give that a try now.  Or soon.  Probably later.

But here's something amazing, and after reading MR BK's notes I know I've definitely missed something:  I've never seen HIGH TIME.  Never.  How could that be?  This is going to be one incredible discovery.

And all incredible discoveries are incredible.  I love that about them.

Saw the digital BIRDIE at the Lafayette Theater last year, and it was very very good, but it sounds like the upcoming Twilight Time experience is going to be even very very much better.

Congratulations to DR JRand61 on surviving opening night, and VIBES for a really great second night.

I would prefer to be there now, but I have to deal with this Fed Ex issue and whatever fresh hell arrives; there seems to be a rea; plethora at the moment.

The omens are not good, dammit.

Fed Ex is no help ("we've received your fax"), and I can get no answers from the producers in Dublin over the whereabouts of the package delivered to the wrong address. I've decided to do laundry, something positive, rather than get drunk and/or go back to bed or go out and stomp pigeons and kick strangers.

Which reminds me. I saw a review of the blu-ray "Singin' in the Rain" in which the reviewer said "the film's inherent softness can be prohibitive". What does that mean? I never saw the film in 35mm but I don't believe the film could ever have been anything but pin sharp.

Also, good news about the brother of DR cillaliz.

I'm really pissed today because the Dublin producers are not getting back to me about the carton that Fed Ex claims was delivered, but they did not receive. Will I need to reprint, tape and ship another set of orchestra parts? How much time does it take to call the Dublin Fed Ex office and ask who the hell has it and send me an email?

Friday morning greetings!  My sister and I left here about 8:15 for the vampire's lab, where I was scheduled for 2 different blood tests, one of which was fasting.  We then went out for a nice breakfast, picked up a prescription for Mom, and did a little shopping at our pitiful mall.  She brought me back home and is now on her way home to Michigan.

That will teach me to slow down when I am reading posts.  I missed the mention of your sister, and I thought you meant that your mother brought you back home.  That sounded scary!

DR Jane I just checked the listings for SMASH.

http://epguides.com/smash/

From the description it looks like ep 1-14 called PREVIEWS is the one that features Sam a lot.  He is still a supporting character. But he definitely started to get a bigger part towards the end of the season.

Thank you. I'll try to record this so I can see him.

Or you could watch his parts online. I'm sure it's on nbc.com.

I love the coaches aspect.

I thought the screen captures for today's notes were really poor.  The colors were all muted and there was too much brown.

Which reminds me. I saw a review of the blu-ray "Singin' in the Rain" in which the reviewer said "the film's inherent softness can be prohibitive". What does that mean? I never saw the film in 35mm but I don't believe the film could ever have been anything but pin sharp.

It is obvious the "reviewer" has no idea of what Singin' in the Rain should look like.  The caps on that site are terrible and I'm told the disc looks good, but since the last DVD was horrible in terms of color, I'm waiting to see it myself.  There is no inherent softness, save for some use of filters on close-ups.

I am a bit worried that no one has heard from him.....but perhaps he will answer some texts or emails today.

thanks, KevinH.

Wish I could have gone to see "Singin' in the Rain" on the big screen this week. I saw the first four-fifths of it on the big screen, but the revival house (back in the late 1970s) noticed something weird. The company that shipped out the film mixed up the last reel and sent out the ending of "An American in Paris" instead. So, somewhere around the Broadway Melody number, Gene ended up dancing with Leslie Caron around the water fountain.

We knew that going into the theater, and yet about 150 or so of us stayed. I think the theater showed it for free.

I recall  that print being beautiful, clean and in focus, perhaps not as alive with color as a Vincente Minnelli movie, but certainly not the critical claptrap that was quoted earlier.

Mom says this was the best birthday that she has had in years. Someone told her they thought she was 60, not 85, so that certainly appealed. She and Dad went with my sister and nephew to their favorite Chinese restaurant and ate too much, which always makes her happy.

Home now.  Didn't make it to the Beer Garden as it was way to crowded.  We ended up at a British Gastro Pub, which was awesome.  We had scotch eggs, which while they were a bit on the salty side, were yummy.   The rest of the food and beer was great.  Nice finish to a decent day.

DR Jennifer, I watched the first night of BIG BROTHER and enjoyed it quite a lot. I also think the "coaching" aspect will add some fun to the competition. And there are certainly some interesting personalities competing.

The rain storm when I left work was so great that I had to duck into a nearby Indian grocery for an hour while it raged and flashed and thundered. Water was deeper than a half foot on the streets and cars everywhere were getting stranded.

I get home, which is 12 miles away, and we had no rain. Go figure.

:o It started raining hard here in the Tumwater/Olympia area a little more than an hour ago and it's just starting to let up...there has been thunder and lightning like I haven't seen in YEARS!

I have been taking some cute photos of Kitty but have no idea how to post them.  I know, I wasn't paying attention cuz I didn't need it at the time.  I think I was still managing to do it the old way.

We have so many talented people here.  Is there anyone who could volunteer to fix the problem for Bruce?

Jane, I can't help Bruce, but to help you, I just sent you a PM. :)

And now, it's not lightning, thundering OR raining at all.

Very strange.
