Well, you've read the notes, the notes dug it, and now it is time for you to post until the digging it cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BADINAGE!
-
A Very Happy Birthday to former DR jhvw, nephew to our very own DR Cillaliz! ;D
-
Good morning, all! I miss New York during the sleazy years! Fighting the crowds on 42nd Street to get to FINIAN'S RAINBOW everynight made me long for the days whewn people were afraid to walk it after dark.
DR FJL, I loved your Mike Tyson comment yesterday.
So, today, we continue orchestra rehearsals. I still don't know if Stephen Rea is feeling good enough to show, but I sure do hope so. Keep those vibes for his recovery coming! Meanwhile, the production team is wondering if any other "name" actors are currently in Dublin, like Gabriel Byrne. I've got my fingers crossed for Mr Rea, so let's hope he's feeling better.
Off to breakfast!
-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good Weekend Vibes for All the DRs and Theirs! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
DR MBarnum, answer your PM, please!
Breakfast was quite tasty: coffee, juice, toast and eggs over easy.
I've sent an inquiry to the production team and I'm waiting for an answer. I am still enjoying HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY, which I hope to finish by the middle of the week. The book for the return to NYC is TIME AND AGAIN.
-
Stephen Rea may show up to today's rehearsal, but we may not see him before tomorrow. He's eager to do the recording, so all we need is vibes that his ailment has cleared up by tomorrow.
HHW vibes are the best in the world!
BK, when do you fly to NYC? I know you've posted it, but I can't think straight at the moment. In cases it's today, although I think it's tomorrow . . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Excellent Travel Vibes & Xylophones for BK! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morning all.
That is all.
-
BK flies to New York tomorrow (Sunday).
-
At the moment it's cool and drizzly in New York
-
Good morning all
Vibes to all that need them
-
Here is a link to a wonderful music parody called "One Term More" (One Day More).
I think BK will notice many of his Kritzerland at _______ performers in this one. It's very well done.

Midnight Cowboy
-
Good morning, all, and good morning, world.
Found myself still logged in this morning even though I hadn't been near the computer since early yesterday evening. I hope I didn't post anything unseemly in my absence.
Coffee! Oh here it is.
-
Coffee, and a stale donut re-animated back to a temporary life by 10 seconds in the microwave.
Nothing like it.
-
A few months ago I caught a few minutes of SHAFT on TCM and it looked pretty good to me for the first time -- meaning, I simply found it kind of boring back in the day. It sounds like its time has come, DR ChasSmith-wise, so I will pick it up at some point and dig it.
-
TOD
Oh, I like this TOD. I hope I learn of many more films than I already know.
Anything of mid-century NYC is of great interest, but I think today we're concentrating on films with some 42nd Street style sleaze in evidence, so, let me see..
SHAFT
MIDNIGHT COWBOY
TAXI DRIVER
FRENCH CONNECTION
uh... let's keep those titles coming in, folks.
-
We're having a heat wave. Expected to be up to 90 this weekend.
-
Chas and Ben - Great, got your PMs about the mini-get-together with BK Sunday evening.
Anyone else who's on the HHW board who's in the NYC area Sunday evening, just PM me, you know BK would love to see you.
-
Not sure about all of these, but...
ALL THAT JAZZ
SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
KLUTE
CRUISING
WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS
THE WORLD, THE FLESH AND THE DEVIL
THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR
THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE
EYES OF LAURA MARS
HUSBANDS, maybe, or other Cassavetes
TV series:
KOJAK
NAKED CITY
JOHNNY STACCATO
-
Chas and Ben - Great, got your PMs about the mini-get-together with BK Sunday evening.

Travel vibes for MR BK.
Happy Birthday to DR fhvw.
Congrats to the niece of DR VIXMOM.

Saturday!!!

Continued rehearsal and recording vibes for DR ELMORE who is halfway around the world.
-
Good morning, all.
Enjoying eight hours of sleep, which is rare and most welcome.
Recording and health vibes for Elmore and his company.
Watching the silent version of "Show Boat." Not sure it works with no miscegenation plot with turning Gaylord into a rake while Parthy is uglier than usual. Also don't understand why only "Ol' Man River" is the only real song from Kern's score that is used, except in the overture.
-
Triangle vibes for DR JOSE.
-
Good morning all. won't be able to post for long as there is lightning storm overhead. I'm feeling much better but had to get up in the middle of the night. My stomach finely lost it's battle with what ever it was and that was that.
I shall be going out to dinner tonight with Thelma and her husband Bill and am really looking forward to it.
Wish I could be at mini gathering tomorrow night but vibes and good thoughts shall be sent to all who can be there. :) Hoping for some photos of the event!
I watched that "One Term More" and also liked it very much.
Vibes to DR Elmore and Vixmom. Hope both are having a wonderful time be it for work or pleasure.
Vibes to all who need them.
Must put the Thunder Shirts on the dogs--be back weather permitting!
-
The "hatchet-faced" Parthy -- to paraphrase Miles Kreuger on the Criterion.
-
TOD:
Taxi Driver
Shaft
Superfly
Cotton Goes to Harlem
-
"Horse-faced old hypocrite" is Gaylord's description of Parthy. "Sour-faced old harridan."
Yet his character in this version is ugly and unlikable.
-
Two!
-
TOD:
I think that the best "sleazy New York" movies were made in the 1970s:
THE FRENCH CONNECTION
SERPICO
REPORT TO THE COMMISSIONER
DOG DAY AFTERNOON
-
Agree.
And I can't believe I didn't think of SERPICO.
-
Saturday morning greetings! I had a wonderful 9 hours of sleep last night and have been up since about 7:30 reading Ina Caro's Paris to the Past. We are gearing up for Middfest, which this year celebrates France and I'm scheduled to lead 2 discussions of this book next month.
-
Since I just re-posted it on another site, how about a
Cyd Charisse GRAND HOTEL classic TV commercial dance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wcf64hp_54
"I'm going to see it twice more! My husband works in the area!" :)
So cool that the cast is still singing while the audience is filing out into the lobby.

TOD:
ACROSS 110TH STREET
-
The damn telephonic device rang at eight-thirty. It's all spam calls and I don't answer, but the next one will be answered and they will not be happy.
-
DR FJL that was pretty darn funny.
-
Just received two (count'em) packages from Kritzerland! :)
JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Blu-ray and CD, plus BAJA MARIMBAS and the MARTHA IVERS soundtrack.
Also, I got halfway through KRITZER TIME yesterday and will likely finish it this evening. It's a Kritzer weekend.
-
And a TIME weekend. In addition to KRITZER, I watched the first half of HIGH TIME, and will probably finish that tonight as well.
-
DR FJL that was pretty darn funny.
Nothing like professional Broadway thee-ay-tur! Looks llike it was shot with a mini-tapee, doesn't it?
Of course, they didn;t have today's technology in the early 1990's.

I think she sat behind me once!
People who leave the theatre before the playout music is over annoy me as much as the people who don't watch the credits in movies. What's so-o-o-o important that they can't stay and show their appreciation to the creators of things they've just LOVED?
-
I'm going to take some leftovers to my Mom and then meet with a couple of AAUW friends to finalize our local 2012-13 programs.
Bye for now!
-
TOD:
ACROSS 110TH STREET
I like that one, too.
-
I used to represent Art Lund, and he was always amused by the fact that they would cast him in the "Blaxploitation" movies as "the bad whitey".
:)

Seriously. And why does anyone want to miss anything, period?
-
I went back to bed - didn't sleep, just relaxed. Up now, but it's now too hot to jog - unless I jog later in the afternoon.
-
I wasn't going to eat till later, around two, but maybe I'll rethink that.
-
Cleaned much of the kitchen. Long overdue.
Now, it's time for a nap.
-
off to the anniversary celebration!
-
I also received my BAJA and MARTHA cd's yesterday.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And I just finished packing about 80% of my stuff.
-
And now it's off to our final rehearsal and final performance/presentation. And then some sort of party. :)

Back from returning a plate that Emilie left here after the potluck, visiting with my Mom, and finalizing the year's AAUW programs with Chris and Robin.

Travel vibes to BK - wave when you fly over Ohio!

Back from picking up a couple of packages and then a sandwich and sweet potato fries.
-
And everything is packed and I now get to relax the rest o' the day.
-
We are in fine fettle: Mr rea will join us tomorrow at 2pm to rehearse his number, and I think it will go smoothly. The chorus is becoming a living, funny group of characters, and I've got them making the producer laugh in the recording booth.
Tomorrow, the recording begins. I'm very proud of this cast, and I think we'll arrive at something very nice.
It's almost midnight. Thank you all for your support. More tomorrow.
-
Boy, does that sound great. VIBES it only continues to get better and better.
-
Watched a good thriller from Norway - very much sort of an "American" thriller, but without any shaky-cam.
-
Hello, everyone.
MEGA TRAVEL VIBES to BK for a safe and smooth trip.
-
What's the thriller from Norway?
-
Congrats to the Vixfamily on their new addition!
-
Continued RECORDING VIBES to Larry and the Dublin cast!
-
LA's heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow. I truly hope they're right!
-
I wasn't here to wish Jane travel vibes, but I hope she's having a good visit.
-
Enjoy the Joe Allen HHW get-together!
-
What's the thriller from Norway?
Headhunters, from the book by Jo Nesbo. Naturally they're doing an American version.

Are we there yet?

Tonight was the first night of Restaurant Week. I went to a mexican street food plce for three courses. the first was this dainty ceviche with four slender slivers of tuna in lime juice with habanero. Lovely. Then out comes four beef ribs that stand more than six inches off the plate. People are saying "OMG" as it goes by and I start laughing when I see it. I ate two ribs and the corn-filled quesdadillas. Dessert was a corn cake with fresh pineapple on top.
The whole week is going to be like this.

BACK TO CEVICHE - my new Frankie & Annette Haute Cuisine musical

At the same used bookstore, I found the Reba version of 'South Pacific," the Douglas Fairbanks' version of "Thief of Bagdad" and Dorothy Rodgers' "The House in My Head."

This is the tax-free clothing weekend. Got a few new shirts, some jeans and socks. It'll ahve to last me until next tax-free clothing weekend.

Found a book called "Be Very Afraid" about how we cope with the fear after traumatic events but we don't learn so much from them.
I know what you're saying. It happens all the time. Like even after the trauma of PORKY's II, I still let my friends talk me into seeing PORKY's III. i'm sure there are many other examples.
-
FJL, where did you go?
Sorry, reliving the trauma was too much, i had to go have a cry.
-
Greetings from the Lucie Stern Community Center, one of the homes of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley.
I'm just sitting in the green room and relaxing before tonight's final presentation... I have a feeling I'll be crying during the final scenes tonight...

Is this a weird story about layoffs at the Tonight Show with Jay Leno? If Leno really doesn't need or ever touch the money, why lay off the poor 20 staff people who really need the money to live on, why not just reduce his multi-million dollar salary that he never touches?
Oy!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/18/jay-lenos-tonight-show-lays-off-20-staffers_n_1801887.html
-
Jose - Are these for the public or just for subscribers?
These are public presentations. It's all a part of their New Works Festival.
-And, there are patrons who will come to each presentation to see how each show evolves over the course of the festival. And fill out the comment cards, and/or corner the writers in the lobby after the show. ;)
Actually, the festival is set up as a conversation of sorts. Feedback and criticism is encouraged.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Page four?

The only one with an excuse is dear reader ChasSmith, who is reading Kritzer Time. :)

OK, I'll try again. Went to the office for a little while. Then to George's for hot dogs where this photo was taken
-
That's my friend Ray, he was filling in to help out George and Mary and had no clue what to do
-
Let's see. I Did some work on my yard and my shoulder was really sore so I came in and relaxed a little. I went looking for light fixtures again, stopped at the grocery store and made a roast beef with potatoes and carrots that will last for a few days
-
Callie has been sick, but I think she's doing better. I did call the vet, but he told me to just keep an eye on her. She's been good for a little over an hour, so I think we'll be ok
-
I did do my exercise bike for 15 minutes. I was really feeling cruddy, sluggish or whatever. I'm sure I ate way too much today. The bike really helped.
-
I'm watching Stars Earn Stripes. Don't ask me why
-
You'd think they would make sure they could swim before they made them jump out of a helicopter in full gear. They had to rescue 2 of them
-
I seriously doubt that's a spoiler for anyone
-
So, we're on page 5
-
Last night this idiot lawyer on our imm. law listserv posted something I thought was inappropriate for the list serv, so I said so. He started sending me emails about how I'm the only one complaining and no one supports me blah blah blah. So I posted one of those to the list and asked if I was the only one. I posted the tamest email. Anyway, he went ballistic and sent me about 8 emails. I held my tongue, explained in very civil terms my position and left it at that.
Today someone who I really respect for his knowledge and ability, came to my defense and did it in a way that focused on my expertise. They idiot then came back with "see they are picking on me and I didn't pick on anyone publicly" Sheesh! I can't believe some people. I privately thanked the person who came to my defense and i'm letting it go. The stupid part of this is that i refer people to lawyers in his town everyday. I won't be referring them to him now
-
Seriously, I don't even know this guy and he's writing saying things like "I know you hate me" ... I don't get that at all
-
Ok, well that was a couple posts anyway
-
I've got some work I have to do for the office tomorrow. I also have to go to the middle of nowhere in Nebraska to have beer and brats
-
The two aren't related
-
Happy first 29th birthday to DR jhvw and his brother!
-
Have we discussed this rumor?
Lisa Whelchel - Blair from FACTS OF LIFE - is strongly rumored to be one of the contestants on the new SURVIVOR series that's about to get under way.
Jennifer, did you know about this?
Here's a link

I was supposed to go kayaking down the river, but I'm sure after today that my shoulder isnt' ready
-
Helper came by to get some new invoices and stuff. She'll be house-sitting whilst I am in the city that never sleeps. I taught her how to use the Blu and Ray player and TV and stereo receiver and she took copious notes. Then I showed her the closet where the Blu and Rays are - her mouth practically hit the floor.
-
The two aren't related
Jhvw and his brother aren't related?
Wait, i'm reading too fast.
We're posting way too quickly.
-
OMG, I'm watching a repeat of Stars Earn Stripes.....I actually watched this part the other day..lol...oh this is sort of embarrassing.

That last post of mine was stupid, but it was a post.

We're watching an episode of CASTLE that I missed while I was watching SMASH during the regular season. As soon as it's over, I'm going to bed because I have a 5:30am wake-up tomorrow.

Well, every time it was on

I'm having a frenzy of a frenzy
-
I do need to go see if I can find Callie, though
-
She was fine last I saw her, so I'm sure she's ok now
-
So would that mean Lisa Whelchel had already filmed SURVIVOR or was about to film SURVIVOR if the rumor is true that she's on the Philippines show?
-
huh?
-
I don't watch Survivor, so you may have to translate
-
It rained today. It was so nice to see it and feel it again. We got less than half an inch but it was very welcome.

Oh, I posted the link further back. Here it is again. Blair from Facts of Life rumored to be on SURVIVOR.

I was thinking the same could apply to the one and only time I saw the film version of "Sophie's Choice." Not a favorite of mine.

Great photo, Cillaliz.
Been watching "Every Little Step." Great documentary. Sad seeing Marvin Hamlisch in his scenes.

Thunderstorm rolling in. Hope some rain is coming, too.

Looking forward to ChasSmith's thoughts on Kritzer Time, which I hope he finishes this evening.

Getting ready to turn in. Elmore, I just opened the box set for Altman's "Short Cuts" and noticed that Lori Singer plays Victor Herbert's Cello Concerto No. 2 in the movie. Didn't know if you knew that.
Night, all.
