Well, you've read the notes, the notes were angular, and now it is time for you to post until the angular cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: THETIC!
-
Good morning! I'm surprised I'm the first to post after BK.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
What are you doing up so early Kevin?
-
Good morning, all.
Sunday vibes and rest for all.
-
good morning to all
-
Jose, if you do see "Kinky Boots," we expect a full report. I've enjoyed the three or four songs I've heard from it so far, but that's no sign that the show works.
-
Here is the dog and me.
Lisa, the lady who rescued him gave him a name that I am having a hard time pronouncing and remembering it. So I am calling him for the time being "Junior" because he reminds me of my first dog.
So far so good. He stays on a little bed that I bought him without asking and came into my bedroom to welcome the day and then HE took me for a walk. ;D

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about to walk a 5K.
-
And even though I tend to walk 5K on a daily basis, this morning will be for me than just because "I want to" and/or "I want to get a cookie/ice cream/candy"...
AIDS Run & Walk Chicago 2012 (http://afc.aidschicago.org/netcommunity/page.aspx?pid=1518)
-
And...
Laters...
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee #2!
-
Hoping KINKY BOOTS is great! Some folks we wish wonderful things for are in it!
-
Junior looks like a fine and dandy dog!
-
Yesterday's day-long celebration was most entertaining, and it was fun to see so many people from the PAST.
-
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson was okay. The cast was for the most part excellent, the lead was especially good - AND I could understand every word that was sung....which helps.
Not a big fan of the show, but it says what it wants to see - half assed as that may be. No need to ever see it again in my life, but I am glad I saw it once.
-
I was supposed to be two places today, but I decided I didn't have to be at either of them....so I don't have to be anyplace today.
-
My KINKY BOOTS tribute parody :) with much love to Ms. Lauper
Tune of GOOD ENOUGH (Cyndi Lauper recording)
Here we are
A Broadway of shows without new songs
Brand new scores seem not to come
So few new songs that you can’t stand it
Jukeboxes and revivals
Old stuff for stars to play with
Here's her new score based on film -
Hope she's -
New enough for you
‘Cause she’s new enough for me
It's new enough, it's new enough for me
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Now you say
You're scared the movie trend won’t end
Each movie that’s in the can
Broadway starts puttering through those;
New plots must have star writers
Like Book of Mormon’s does
If not, you get no buzz;
Hope she’s -
New enough for you
She’s new enough for me
It's new enough, it's new enough for me
(yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
-
Sorry for being E&T
-
Good morning - I'm off to work then to callbacks for A Christmas Carol - The Musical Looking forward to seeing if we have anything one new this year. Time to take year 6 up to a new height.
-
Good morning, all!
I am under the weather. I hope it isn't the flu, since my flu shot is scheduled for Wednesday morning, but it may just be a bad chapter of Me And My Allergies. I'm hoping.
DR ChasSmith, I thought the Austtralian Opera and Ballet Orchestra played the score for FLEDERMAUS quite well. I believe the production of PINAFORE/TRIAL BY JURY was from Melbourne. In th credits, the scores shown are the new editions from Broude Brothers which are quite excellent. I was surprised that the cut duet from PINAFORE, included in the Broude score as an appendix, wasn't put back, but perhaps they feel it was unnecessary then and remains unnecessary now.
I'm making a trip to the market and that's my day.
-

This is the best-- congratulations...to both of you!!!
-
Broude Brothers! I know I've been out the loop, but I haven't heard that name in years. I still have a few of their hardcover scores from way back when.
Didn't know about a new G&S edition, either. Is this related to those Dover scores published a while back, or something entirely different?
Also, I don't know about my reading comprehension yesterday, but it's TRIAL BY JURY that I don't know. Somehow missed that the other one was PINAFORE.

I thnk the Dover "editors" are total fools and an insult to the word. I have little respect for them.
The Broudes as folk are fools, from my experience once in applying to work for them around 1984, and their edition, which was announced over 30 years ago and so far only two volumes have been published, seems an awfully long time tin production for the remaining 12 or so volumes.
Still, both editions are quite wonderful, excellent in all respects, and i hope more are released before I die:

It's a beautiful day in Manhattan.
We were out and about early. We went to Penn Station to pick up our tickets for DC. We are having a small trip/honeymoon courtesy of a dear old friend. She didn't know what to do/what to get us for our wedding and she decided she should give us a trip to DC (she lives there). We are old friends (35 years) from college and after and this is a great present.
We leave Friday morning on the Acela Express Business Class and return Sunday evening. We are being housed at the
Mayflower Hotel (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/wassh-the-mayflower-renaissance-washington-dc-hotel/)
On Saturday evening we are being taken to dinner at
Bistro D'Oc (http://www.bistrodoc.com/)
We're meeting Karen and Melinda, another friend who pairing with Karen to make the gift, for drinks at the Lounge in the hotel on Friday evening.
On Saturday during the day we may go to
President Lincoln's Cottage in DC (http://lincolncottage.org/)
We will probably have brunch on Sunday somewhere in Dupont Circle and then play in the city until our train back early Sunday evening.
We are very excited about our trip and the gift from our very generous friends.

That sounds fantastic, DR Ben. Enjoy!
-
I'm up after a pretty good night's sleep. The neighbors were out playing with the dog this morning so that was about nine-thirty. Then I just stayed in bed. Then I got up and was greeted with page one.
-
This will NOT do, oh, no, this will not do and will lead to a lot of angularity.
-
Here is Page Two.
-
I just ate a very late breakfast of eggs over medium, toast, bacon, and am about to have some more coffee.
-
I am back from the market, where I spent too much money, and I am now in the midst of preparing tuna salad. That should keep me alive until my invoice check. or social security payment. kicks in.
After that, I'll watch a DVD. I'm leaning toward Ken Russell's THE DEVILS which I haven't seen since1973 or so, and the new BFI edition is calling me.
-
I love THE DEVILS. Saw it a couple of times in L.A. back in the day, then had no contact with it or much thought about it for years. When I came back around to it I was shocked to discover its history of being suppressed, cut down, etc., and it was a thrill just to get that UK bootleg DVD several years back. The BFI release is a godsend.
-
From DR Cilla:
If you did i must have missed it. thanks!
It was me, somehow I didn't post my congrats except in my brain.

At least not too much like I'm coming down with something. Today I'm mostly sure it is only my allergies to stuff.

The situation with Warner Brothers sitting on it is absolutely ridiculous, because we'll never see the most offensive sequence until they do. I'm not even sure the Rape of Christ is that offensive by today's standards, but curiosity alone over its suppression and Warner Brothers' attitude toward it makes me want to see it!
-
I gotta tell you.

And the word of the day is: THETIC!
Wasn't that the TV series starring Patrick Warburton?

DR Ben - That's so cool about your DC Trip/Gift! -And I love Bistro D'Oc. And if you haven't checked out the recently renovated Ford's Theatre Museum, you could do so before dinner since Ford's is right across the street.
*And I'll be back in DC too as of tomorrow afternoon.

I'm taking a break from the movie. It's very, very intense but I'd forgotten how visually beautiful it is. Derek Jarman's sets are really interesting and Shirley Russell's costume design is stunning. I love Gemma Jones, and I'd forgotten how large her role is. I'd also forgotten all of the cross cutting between characters: Louis XIII's smug laugh cutting to Vanessa Redgrave's insane one, Regrave's erotic fantasies cutting with the wedding ceremony. All I remembered of the film were the politics and the nuns' public displays of possession. I'm at the point where Redgrave's Soeur Jeanne des Anges has wigged out over the edge from too much erotomania - I worry about Mikey flipping out as well! - and confessed to Father Mignon that the priest comes to her at night as a demon and ravishes her. The political circus is about to begin. It's as crazy as Salem, only lewder.

I couldn't stomach that film forty years ago, so I doubt I wll rush out and buy a copy of the DVD.

Thanks.
We got our flu shots and then went for a relaxing walk wishing Sherlock was with us.
-
When we returned home there was an email from the artist who did the Sherlock Holmes painting of our Sherlock. She sent us a pic of her newest work, possible to be made into Christmas cards. She didn't put it on FB or I would share it here. It is from a photo Keith took when Sherlock was 4 1/2 months old.
-
Nice pics DR Jose, even the ones I had to back up from the computer to see ;)
-
Thanks all for the nice words about our trip!
Jose, thanks for the info about Ford's Theatre Museum. I think we will check it out.
In your first picture I thought for a minute you were with Dan Savage. I went up and checked the name and saw it was David and after I looked at the other pictures I think he doesn't look so much like Dan Savage except for the first picture.
Mike, the dog looks adorable!!!
My friends really like Bistro D'Oc as well. The menu looks great and we're excited about going.
The weather is supposed to be nice and according to Karen and Mel, October is a good time because most of the tourists are gone and the weather has shifted to very nice from very hot.

All I see is a Red X.
-
I loved it. Seeing a more complete print than the one shown in the US in 1971 raises the film in my esteem. The torture and madness are rather graphic, but it's a beautiful film, not nearly as gross or repellant as some of the "horror" films like HOSTEL or SAW, and the story is a real tragedy. I found it much less graphic than I had remembered. I found much of it visually stunning and beautiful, and truly insane when the political circus takes over and the nuns are forced to go wild. Some of the screenplay comes right out of John Whiting's play, like the scene where the very gay Prnce Henri de Conde, cousin of the very gay King Louis XIII (Dumas makes him a heterosexual King in THREE MUSKETEERS), exposes the madness for the sham it is
I also like the play on the title: the devils aren't the mythical ones corrupting the nuns but the demented priests and politicians torturing and burning an innocent. I will read Huxley's wonderful history The Devils of Loudun again. Great cast, too. Oliver Reed is wonderful, but it was nice to see Joe Orton's original Mr Sloane, Dudley Sutton, as de Laubardemont and the original Dr Pangloss Max Adrian as the demented surgeon. Murray Melvin. the original Hostage Leslie in Behan's great play, is Father Mignon. I'll watch this again next week withvthe commentary. There are too many other things in the DVD set I want to watch.

Sunday evening greetings after a ver-r-r-ry long day for the Vicar and his wife. We knew last night we'd be making a hospital call on one of our 93-year-old parishioners and we found out when we got there that our much younger licensed lay reader was hospitalized last night with a bleeding ulcer. His hospital is an hour further north, so we made the local (Lima) call, had lunch, and headed for Bowling Green. We left there about 3:45 and got home at 6:15. We're too old for 11-hour days!
Rob and Mary Linda were about an hour behind us on their way back from Michigan. They'd left a car here on Friday, so they stopped for it and for a popcorn supper with us.
-
At least you had a visit from Rob and Mary Linda to brighten your day.

At least you had a visit from Rob and Mary Linda to brighten your day.
Yes, DR Jane, that's true. Actually, the day wasn't all that bad, just long and very tiring - especially for Fr. Richard, who administered communion 3 times. The weather was beautiful - the harvest moon was still up when we left home this morning and the trees are beginning to show their fall colors.
-
I'm glad your long day was a beautiful one and not dreary.
-
DR Ben, I hope you and Anthony have a fabulous time in Washington, DC. That's so thoughtful of your friends!
-
A friend just asked if I sent her an email with no subject and a web link. She of course didn't open it without checking and I didn't send it.
-
Something tells me I'll be asleep soon - 'night!

'night

From DR Cilla:
If you did i must have missed it. thanks!
It was me, somehow I didn't post my congrats except in my brain.
It's the thought that counts ;)

Beautiful moon tonight.

I tried to put them in directly, but the photos are way too big. Kind of made them too small....anyway, there are more on FB. I opened this album to the public so anyone can see it
-
I have more, but that should give you an idea.
-
this morning I broke my little toe
-
I didn't want to believe I broke my little toe, so instead of looking at it, I put on shoes and socks and went to breakfast
-
Then I went on a photo drive in the fabulously wonderful fall weather and the most vibrant colors I have seen in ages
-
When I came home and took off my shoes and socks, I realized my little toe had also turned a vibrant shade of purple and it was much bigger than the last time I saw it
-
So, I figure it's broken
-
I've iced it and elevated it and taken Aleve
-
Lovely moon photo, DR Laura
-
I also did one load of laundry. I have much more to do, but wanted to keep my foot up. So I just did enough so I have clean clothes to wear tomorrow

Wow! Beautiful!
-
Just watched DANGEROUS MISSION starring Victor Mature, Vincent Price and Piper Laurie. Very exciting movie with some Irwin Allen disaster stuff here and there.
And saw my interviewee Frank Griffin (brother of Debra Paget and Lisa Gaye) in a small role, but he was in 3 different scenes as a (rather handsome) hotel desk clerk.
-
Now, to watch PARRISH or THE AMAZING RACE. Hmmmm.
-
Beautiful moon tonight.

Yes, it was. Great photo.

Gorgeous photos, Cillaliz. Hope your toe heals quickly.

Had some wonderful cinnamon-basil-black pepper ice cream today. Could use another scoop right now.
-
Thanks MBarnum and JohnG. The toe will be fine, just ugly and sore for awhile. It was so great to get outside today and take photos. What a break after such a busy month
-
I want that ice cream, DR John G. Hand it over.
-
The best I can do, ChasSmith, is hand over the recipe, which I just finished working on.
Cinnamon-Basil-Black Pepper Ice Cream
6 basil leaves (minced)
3 cups heavy cream
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
In a saucepan, heat the basil and cream to a simmer. Remove from heat. Add sugar and whisk in the vanilla, cinnamon and black pepper. Cool to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate until cold. Finish in ice cream maker, using manufacturer's instructions.

And that's all she wrote. Night, folks.

And...
I really, really, really, really like Kinky Boots.
:)
-
*And I ended up sitting about 20 feet away from Cyndi Lauper, Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Mitchell. -As I tweeted earlier, it made me feel extra-gay. ::)
-
And if any DR is able to get to Chicago some time over the next five weeks to see Kinky Boots, do so!
-
DR Cillaliz - Great pics!
-
DR JohnG - No eggs in that ice cream? I guess it's "Philly" style.
-
DR Jane - That's a beautiful tribute to DD Sherlock.
-
Well...
Since I got up early today...
And since I have to fly out early tomorrow...
Which means I have to be up in six hours...
Goodnight.

Back from Juliana's show - completely sold out and I would say it went beautifully, especially for someone who's never done a solo act before. She was very nervous beforehand, but if she remained nervous during the show we certainly didn't know about it. The audience loved her, she received huge applause after every single number and therein was her only real problem during the show - rather than let them applaud and then begin her next patter as the applause is dying down, she continually began her patter before the applause was even halfway done, thereby missing some really good laughs because they couldn't hear her. By mid-act, they simply stopped applauding so long so they could hear her. That's something we'll address before she does it again, but other than that I don't think the reaction could have been much better.

That's wonderful, Ben! Have a great time!!

BK, Congrats to you and to Juliana on the show!
