Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Hugo-centric, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently listening to the music of MOOgo Friedhofer.
-
And the word of the day is: PLACATE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.

Jack, I don't know if you have some toolbar in Firefox but perhaps this information can do something for you regarding the thing that got added and you can't get rid of. It's from the New York Times. Also, I think John G. said he ended up taking his computer in to the shop to finally get rid of Text Enhancer. He couldn't do it himself.

Q&A: Removing Unwanted Firefox Add-ons
By J.D. BIERSDORFER
Q.
I installed some free software and also got an extra toolbar on my Firefox browser in the process. How can I get rid of this thing?
A.
Third-party toolbars are often bundled with certain software programs and are automatically added to your computer unless you watch closely and decline the option during the installation process. (Depending on the software, extra toolbars and other adware may just get added to your computer anyway.)
In some cases, you can remove the unwanted toolbar by going to the Firefox menu bar, choosing Tools and selecting Add-ons. On the left side of the Add-ons Manager screen, click on the Extensions icon. In the list of extensions that have been added to Firefox, click on the name of the toolbar you want to discard and click the Remove button. You may need to restart the Firefox browser to see any change.
If the toolbar defies removal, try returning to the Extensions panel and clicking on the Disable button next to its name to at least shut it down. Browser add-ons and extensions can vary widely in quality, and some can persist despite your best efforts to get rid of them the easy way. If you still cannot uninstall the toolbar, visit Mozilla’s guide for serious add-on troubleshooting in Firefox for further instructions.

! ! ! ! ! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DR DOUGR ! ! ! ! !

Good news! I don't have listeria!
On Sunday, my sisters came for a visit and for a treat I bought two bags of Indiana brand kettlecorn. Well, yesterday a report came out that the company was recalling bags of their popcorn because they were contaminated with listeria bacteria. As luck would have it, we didn't finish the popcorn and I had put the leftovers into the bag so I was able to check it out when I got home. Thankfully, the bag size was not among the list of recalled items. I wouldn't doubt that the company will eventually recall all product so I'm holding onto the bags just in case. But none of us have been experiencing any of the symptoms associated with listeria, so I guess we are in the clear.
The end.

Good morning, all!
I wanted to sleep late but I have a flu shot this morning. Last year's shot made me sick for a few days - something that had never happened before - and I'm hoping that isn't the case this year. I will return home for abit before I make a trek to the NYPL to research a few things.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to Our DR DougR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning, all.
AND A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR DougR!!!
-
Loved the music reminiscences in the notes today, and can't wait to listen to some Friedhofer.
-
Flu shot VIBES for DR Elmore. And thanks for the reminder, since I should be getting mine soon. I've never had the slightest reaction to one, and I hope it stays that way.

Happy Birthday, DougR!

Thank you for the Birthday greeting Dan.

Thank you DR BEN. This may have done the trick. Time will tell.
I hope this works for you. Sorry that Revo didn't work out the way I hoped. I use it all the time and don't have a problem with it, but then I didn't have a piece of crap software installation to remove.

Happy Day to Doug R!!!

Forgot to post this yesterday, but I went to visit the doctor for the first since surgery in February. No trace of cancer. I'm very happy at that news, as you can imagine.

My "Ask BK" question: You mentioned a book fair in Pasadena this weekend...How are the book fairs these days? When I left, it had pretty much become dealers selling to dealers and the finds were few and far between. Have they gotten any better or more interesting? Being where I am these days, we don't much hear of book fairs anymore. The Pulpfest in Columbus, Ohio, is the only one I get to now.

Happiest of birthdays to DR Doug R!

I had a flu shot last week and had no reaction. In fact, I didn't even feel it.
My shot this morning was completely painless. I had nver had areaction before last year so I'm hoping it was a fluke.

I must get on with my day which involves being E&T for a while. Later!

Forgot to post this yesterday, but I went to visit the doctor for the first since surgery in February. No trace of cancer. I'm very happy at that news, as you can imagine.
DR JohnG, I must have been thinking about other things on the board, but I managed to gloss right over your post. What fatastic news! I hope the good vibes continue into your employment zone.
-
Mikey, I was a huge Little Lulu fan as a kid. I'm surprised I never before saw a card with her and Tubby.
-
Yay for DR John G's good medical news!
-
Great news John!
-
Thank you, all.
I had a Little Lulu question. She doesn't have a cakehole (the layered equivalent of a piehole, I would presume), so how can she consume the cake in her hand?
These are the mysteries of the universe.

Mikey, I was a huge Little Lulu fan as a kid. I'm surprised I never before saw a card with her and Tubby.
Little Lulu. Little Lulu,
With frekles on her chin,
Always in and out of trouble,
But mostly alway in.
Using daddy's necktie for the tail of your kite
Using mommy's lipstick for the letters you write
Though the clock strikes seven thirty, it's really after ten,
Looks like Lulu's been repairing it again.
Though she's wild as any Zulu
And she's just as hard to tame.
Little Lulu I love you-you
Just the same the same
Little Lulu I love you-you
Just the same!

We're beginning to step up our planning for our January trip to England. I have a bookmark on my computer for a London hotel called The Sanctuary House (http://www.sanctuaryhousehotel.co.uk) and I don't know why I bookmarked it. Did someone here recommend it?

One of the advantages of writing and directing for Roger Corman is that, when you get old, you get to be a celebrity guest at horror conventions.
::)
I will be appearing and signing books/DVDs at the Son of Monsterpalooza horror convention.
The event is being held on October 26-28 at the Burbank Marriott Hotel Convention Center, which is just across the street from the Burbank Airport.
For further details:

The one this weekend will be quite lame, I'm sure, which is what the Pasadena show had devolved to. But the one this past February in Pasadena, the big one that used to be held near the airport and then in Century City - that one was great.
-
No burgers?
-
I'm up - was up at eight-thirty thanks to hammering and the churning of a cement truck - they are doing so many tear downs around here that this will be going on for years.

Happy Birthday to DR Doug R!

Ginny, I know nothing of this hotel, except it's in a great location, walking distance to most of the major sites and, if you like to walk, most of the theatres.
-
Thanks for weighing in, DR Charles Pogue. Any other recommendations?

I don't look, either. I don't mind the needle, but I don't want to have to see it.

This morning I gave a talk to some seniors who were on a field trip from their senior center. They didn't know why they were at a church until I began talking about our butterfly garden. Most of them were interested and asked lots of questions about the plants and caterpillars and the many butterflies flitting around. There was one lady who clearly thought all bugs should be killed. I guess that's what happens when your outing is a surprise.
-
I took some caterpillars and chrysalises from my yard, plus we had a nice big monarch caterpillar at the church munching away at the top of a plant so it was easy to see.
-
And that's all I had scheduled for today.
-
And that's all I had scheduled for today.
Then you won't mind if I send you some of my work to do via e-mail ;D
-
And I am home from the library. I just called to make an appointment to see my doctor for this malaise I am suffering, and her first free appointment is 16 days from now! This strikes me as completely ridiculous, and I wasquite vocal about it. So the receptonist said she would contact the doctor and see what can be done. We'll see how this goes down.

Great story, Laura. I can just see their faces.
I once covered a murder mystery dinner theater, except the hotel manager forgot to tell the seniors that that was they were experiencing. When the murder occurred, I thought several of the people were going to have a stroke. Not a nice surprise.
-
I don't see another topic:
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, write, eat, and then attend a seminar. Today’s topic of discussion: It's Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I hit the road to dreamland, where my dreams will be accompanied by the music of Hugo Friedhofer.

I printed up Ginny's bingo cards from yesterday. And I printed up my drinking game list. (I will use M&Ms instead of alcohol, though.)

Otherwise...
It was another good day of rehearsal, our second. Our "Higgins", Benedict Campbell, joined us today - he's still finishing up his obligations up at The Shaw Festival over the next week and a half. -And it turns out that Benedict's father, Douglas, was a protégé of Sir Tyrone Guthtrie, and was an Artistic Director of The Guthrie Theater.
-
It has been a busy day & I still have things to do.
This morning my hiking group went to Mt. Ashland on Echo & Sherlock's trail. I let them get ahead of me and sat on their rock. Since it was my first time up after leaving Sherlock there I had a bit of a cry. That's ok and expected. It will get better with time & it felt so very good to sit on the rock & imagine them playing together in the fields below me.

Well, I must be off. I got to work early for my meeting this morning and now, I'm actually an hour over! That hasn't happened in quite a while.

Be back later!

I do not think they do flu shots here till around Dec. Hopefully I will be able to get a free one this year.
Are your nieces too old for you to count with them?
The rules are different some years. And they seem to do them different places every year. Last year my nieces did not get free shots but found a place very nearby and did not have to wait.
-

Jane, they only knew they were going on an outing. What the outing was going to be was a surprise to them.
-
I paid $30 and got the shot. Didn't go through the insurance at all. Last year I got a call TEN MONTHS after the flu shot from a collection agency because my insurance didn't cover the shot at Walgreens. Now I just pay cash and I'm done with it.
-
Watching "Shadows and Fog" tonight. Love this movie, one of my favorite Wood Allen features. Don't think I've seen it since it was released. Odd that the prostitutes in the movie include Jodie Foster, Lily Tomlin and Kathy Bates.

If you live in the Los Angeles area and have time and are in the neighborhood, please stop by and say "Hello,".
Holy MOOley -- I'll be right there in the hotel. I'm leaving first thing Saturday the 27th and I think Friday night is booked, but surely the "Hello" can be made to happen somehow.
I will also staying at the hotel, so I look forward to meeting you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DOUGR!!!! And anyone else I may have missed in the past day or two

I could use some vibes and prayers for my cat sitter, Sharon. She has somehow contracted a flesh eating bacteria and is in critical condition in the hospital. This has all happened very quickly. Her family had to make the decision to amputate her arm to save her life. She is still hanging on but it isn't a sure thing she will survive. It's very sad and very shocking to us all.
-
I watched half of the debates and then switched over to watching THE MUNSTERS.
-
OH my gosh Cillaliz, how horrible! Many vibes for poor Sharon!
How does one contract something so terrible, anyhow?!
-
I'm not exactly clear on that. I'm hearing that it came from infection in a cut she had. She works a lot with horses and in the barn etc. One of our mutual friends is a doctor and she thinks she probably somehow contracted at the stables. It also seems you have to have lowered immunity. I think she is a diabetic which could impact her immune system

Horrible. VIBES for Sharon.

Thanks MBarnum and ChasSmith. It is so sad. She is the most incredible woman and has done so much for so many people. Of course the fact remains that there are many many people who now are scrambling to figure out how to find alternate care for their pets.
-
I almost hate to say that, it seems insensitive, but it is a real problem.

How long are you here - we simply must have a get-together.

Back from the Richard Sherman event at the Paley Center. Had a great meal first, then walked for about two miles up and down the streets of Beverly Hills, about which more later, and then attended the evening, which was fun.
