Old Filichia on Friday. I'll have to wait until Sunday to read the new one.

I won't be around until Sunday evening. We leave for DC in a few hours. We're not taking the laptop and I doubt I'll go into the business center at the hotel so I'll see you when we get back.

It is Friday and I am working all day....ugh.

I got about 80% of my lines last night.  The problem for me right now.....is......that.....the freshman girl playing my wife is so....well...BAD.....that her speeches and inflections really throw my line rhythm off.

I haven't been in a play with someone this bad and a LONG time.....I can't describe it......but now that I've heard how she's really doing it, at least I can go over my lines remembering how things are going to be said....

I did get a copy of the picture which I will scan soon.

Hollywood is the very core of my strongest feelings about L.A., not just because it was the center of my world there initially, but because its potential and promise still somehow represent what L.A. is about for the likes of moi.  I'm glad parts of it survive, but it's going to be a shock, regardless -- which I'm unfortunately accustomed to, having had plenty of experience returning to my various home towns after many years.  I'll post my ramblings later, with the notes in front of me so I can follow BK on his walking tour of the Boulevard.

Charles is a buddy of mine who I and DR Jose lunched with on my last trip to NYC. Charles is the son of my interviewee and dear departed friend actress Carolyn Kearney. Charles is a very talented chap and I am enjoying his songs very, very much.

In south FArgo I am amused by two of the store fronts in a strip mall... One front is for Hornbachers, a grocery story and next to it is an animal hospital.

I realize it is not good to feed animals human food but it does cause one to pause to wonder what the eat to become ill.

I've been up since seven-fifteen thanks to the hammering.  I got so annoyed finally that I went outside and found where it was happening - two doors north of me.  They're doing roofing work.  But apparently they only do this until the entire neighborhood is awake, then by eight-thirty there is no more hammering.  Later today I shall speak to the contractor because I've HAD it.

Just got some sad news...

Friends of mine, Dave and Christine, found out that their beloved Adela has Hemangiosarcoma. It is cancer of the spleen in dogs.  It is a fatal diagnosis. I have been honored to meet the beautiful Adela  on several occasions. She is a 12-year old German Shepherd.

Here is an article about the type of cancer she has. Adela did have a tumor removed last week because she was unusually lethargic and did not want to play with her favorite ball.  With Adela, if you have her ball in hand, she is ready to play even if it is just rolling it on the floor. Sweet dog....

They could use  a few thoughts and prayers to get through this trying time.

I am curious, BK, how things changed for you on your journeys once you began your career.  Were you recognized when you went into some of these places or did the service improve at some of these eateries once you became "Bruce Kimmel" rather than that skinny Jewish kid?

I wouldn't say the service improved, but in my TV heyday I was recognized often in eateries, both by staff and diners.  I know that bothers some actors, but I always loved it.

I used to complain about books that had small print until it occurred to me that not all of the publishers had suddenly started reducing the size of the print, so there might be another reason.

I think his TV wife has first dibs on the part.

It's book 2 and i really want to read it. This is the only series i've ever had a problem with. Sometimes they fonts are a bit smaller but i've never seen anything like this. And it's making me crazy.

I ended up getting the first 3 chapters as a sample at amazon.com so i could read that part comfortably.

I really don't understand why anyone printing a book would do this.

I think I was unclear since DR George misunderstood.  This is an ACTUAL BOOK not an ebook.  I just got the sample 3 chapters on my kindle so i can read the first part easier.

And they didn't change the print from the first book. It was small there too.

If I read on my bed with my reading lamp right on the book it is bearable. But the print is still too small for it to be comfortable. I may end up using a magnifying glass for part of it. Just putting the magnifying glass right on the book makes the print big enough. I wish i had a ruler shaped magnifying glass because it's not practical to hold a mg while trying to read the whole book.

It is just so frustrating. Why did they make the print so small? I have never heard had a problem with any book before this series. I never find anything too small to read. But this is ridiculous!

Perhaps a pair of Cheater Glasses would help you with the book.

I tried it with a pair and it was completely blurry.

I read a lot and this book is significantly smaller than what i am used to.

I found a very large magnifying glass (circle). If i place it directly on the page it increases the font by 1 size, which makes it perfect for me read. It's just a pain to have to move it.

I used to complain about books that had small print until it occurred to me that not all of the publishers had suddenly started reducing the size of the print, so there might be another reason.

Yah if other books were bothering me i would say it was me. But in this case it's the book :)

I look forward to reading your ramblings.

There are a number of different strengths of cheaters.  If you tried a pair that was too strong for you, it would certainly make everything blurry.  But if you found the correct strength, it would be the same as using the magnifying glass without having to move it.

DR Jennifer I have encountered books with ridiculously small print, more often in a large book where I can only guess that the publisher's want to reduce the total number of pages.  On the other hand I have seen this kind of small print in books with only two-three hundred pages.

I have one advantage over you.  I have always been so near sighted that where other's began needing reading glasses I began taking my glasses off to read.  Still that small print gives me eye strain.  Now with my shoulder holding a book up that close to my face for any length of time simply hurts.

Most of my life I have been reading that Baby Boomer's "rule" the world and as we age the world will accommodate to our needs, more so than any previous generation.  If that is so why has the print on books become smaller‽‽

Hello, all.

Last night I saw a production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  Yes, I've never seen it until last night.  It's a lovely little show.  Very funny, and the songs make more sense now that I've seen it, so the cast recording is fun to listen to!  I'll probably see it in November at another theatre company, so I'm excited to see it again.  Tonight, I'm seeing a production of Anything Goes which I'm also looking forward to. I love the show and a good friend of mine is playing Reno.

I'm trying to see as much theatre as possible.  However, I'm finding when I'm not working on a show, it's more fun to be at home and not have to be somewhere.

In the oven, there are turkey cutlets, which I floured, dipped in egg and coated with crushed corn flakes.  Hopefully, it will turn out well.

That's all I have.

I do wear glasses but only for driving/distances. I don't use glasses to read.

I actually have been reading the book with the small print without any help. I guess my eyes just got used to it. It was never that i couldn't see the print. It was just so small it felt very uncomfortable to read.

I counted the number of lines per pages and there are 35. And it is not a big book. Also it's only 300 pages. I checked with other books and i see some of 30 lines per page. I am guessing they wanted to try to have to print less pages. But to me it's ridiculous.

Speaking of annoying.... I'm not happy how much work Keith has had to do during this landscaping job.  This is why we paid the landscaper.  Of course Keith is twice as unhappy as he is the one doing the work.

The guy should be here working with his crews.  Thank goodness they are good but Keith isn't the one who should be catching the mistakes.  The plant lady is also terrific and doing some of the landscaper's job.

HOLLYWOOD -- BK had the best years there, no question.  In comparison to his, my 1970s were the beginning of the downhill slide.  But I thought it was the greatest place in the world.  I’d still give anything to have those 1970s back, so it’s interesting to start from what I remember, and try to imagine all the ways in which it would have been even better prior to that.

The intersection of Hollywood and Highland was BK’s arrival point, and I credit that intersection as being my own focal point and gateway to Hollywood when several of us in college drove out there from Ohio in the summer of 1971.  A few of us stayed in a motel on Sunset Blvd. east of Highland.  It might even have been east of Vine, and it’s bizarre that after all those years I never thought to go have a look back at it.  Somewhere I have a picture saved from Google Earth that shows what I believe to be the one.  Others in our group stayed in a Travelodge on Sunset that I think was between Highland and La Brea.  My chief memory of our motel was coming back one afternoon to find cops and ambulance there because some girl had drowned in the pool.  I remember the blanket-covered body lying there on the patio.  In spite of that little welcome to Hollywood, my best friend and I were so blown away by the place that we drove out the following June, 1972, no particular plans in mind but to enjoy it for a year or two.  (That turned into 17 years for me.  A job later took him to Northern California, where he married and raised a family and still lives in Santa Rosa.)

We took a one-week rental in a cheap apartment on Orange Drive behind the Chinese Theater.  We’d both loved the Hamburger Hamlet, and he took a job as waiter there -- at store #10 in Hamlet lingo.  (More about the Hamlet later.)  I pounded the pavement looking at apartments, and finally chose the “Franklin Park Apartments” at the NW corner of Franklin and Whitley, even though we'd be splurging on it to the tune of $175 per month, more than we’d planned on spending.  But we loved that place -- two blocks up from the House of Pies and the Boulevard and, as far as we were concerned, the center of the world.  I took a job at a small publishing company on Beverly Blvd. near Rampart, a block from the original Tommy’s where an 8:00 a.m. chili cheeseburger before work was the greatest starter ever.

Back later with my own walk through Hollywood.

Back from about 3 hours at Middfest, where I turned in money and some unsold admission buttons and bought 5 tickets for the drawing for 2 roundtrip airfares and 4 nights in a Paris hotel.  Then I helped set up the Language and Literature Center, where I will spend the better part of Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  I've been working closely on this with the young woman who now holds the public services librarian position at our local Miami University campus that brought me to Middletown 39 years ago.

So, Ginny, have given any thought on who you might want to take to Paris?
Hey, I was going to ask that!

Too bad.  That will teach you to run off to those pagan feasts every night!

I just caught up on the postings from after I went to bed last night. TCB, monkfish used to be called the poor man's lobster. Now it's two or three times more expensive than lobster. Wonderful stuff.

 More expensive!  Wow.

I love HHW everyday.  But it is days like this, with these walks down memory lane, that make this place so very special.  Thank you one and all.

Perhaps Brian D'Arcy James can play Kong?

This musical is one. of. the. stupidest. ideas. ever.

Could it be any worse than SPIDERMAN?

I arrived in Hollywood at the end of 1963, and by the middle of the following year, I lived in an apartment at Franklin and Argyle.

Hollywood was so nice back then.  Friday nights after work, I would stroll down Hollywood Blvd. from the Pantages Theater to Grauman's Chinese, then back again on the other side of the street.  It was a totally different time.

Of course, I could take my own walk down memory lane, not down through the Hills of Beverly, but rather in the hills of Laguna Niguel.  My nights of drinking with Maggie Raye at the infamous Little Shrimp.........  Oh wait, I think there are still copyright problems involved with those storie, so maybe not!

Thankfully, I have never heard that song before.  My disco memories run more to The Bee Gees.

Very sorry, but I'll have to continue that post tomorrow or another time.  I have to help a friend who is in need of some real support.  The pet lovers here will understand how some serious lost-beloved-cat-finding vibes will be very welcome right about now.  Thanks.

Saw LAWRENCE OF ARABIA in 4K at the local AMC last night.

The first time I saw LAWRENCE OF ARABIA was on the big screen when Keith took me to the Fox Wilshire Theater on Beverly Drive.

Don't think Lawrence ever played the Wilshire - unless it was second run, which the Wilshire didn't usually do.  It played its roadshow at the Stanley Warner Beverly Hills.
