Title: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE RIDEOUT?
Post by: bk on October 24, 2012, 12:28:57 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a glorious rideout, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they just finished doing a musical number that ended with them singing, "Moo" held for one beat, followed a one-beat button from the orchestra.

Good morning, all! I had a lot of peculiar dreams last night, most of which I don't now remember. One of my dreams had to do with a production of THE BEGGAR'S OPERA but that's all I do remember about it.

The laundry is in the washers and in 10 minutes thet should be ready for the dryers.  Once it's finished, i'm stu;ck here until yjr UPS delivery arrives. I have a bit of banking to do then, so I can pack for DC. And that's myday.

DR JENNIFER I would only use the Kindle for reading books.  I am not interested in having a tablet or telephone with internet capabilities.  I don't need to take my computer with me.

I don't text at all - and I barely use my cell phone - it is only in case of emergencies.  But then I am not so important that I need to be instantly and constantly IN TOUCH with anybody in particular.

I do NOT have WIFI, so how the KINDLE seems to be described here and elsewhere seems like just too much trouble.  I think I will keep reading BOOKS for awhile.

Thanks to MR BK for the Book Of Mormon report....  I like to listen to the CD, although I haven't gotten it out since I put it away almost a year ago.  All of the MP3 songs are $1.29 on Amazon as opposed to the .99 cents most other songs are.

And more than half of the reviewers call the recording the "Broadway Soundtrack" - which irritates the HELL out of me.

Amazon and ITunes list all such things as Broadway Soundtracks.  I usually end up screaming, "It's not a soundtrack!" followed by my lecture to no one.  Sugar hates it when I do that!

I voted today (absentee ballot turned in at the Superior Court down the street from my office building).

I have a jury summons for tomorrow.   Will be calling in this afternoon to see if they want my group to report.

Well, I've seen my new refrigerator.

It's a GE, and with no advance notification it arrived about 20 minutes ago. That meant a flurry of activity while I emptied the old one and thedelivery men hauledit into the building. At that point I noticed thedoor was hinged incorrectly and refused to accept it. The delivery men checked the delivery info and. sure enough, GE was supposedto redo the door and they didn't. The chief delivery man called theoffice and they said to cart it back for the door replacement.

So they carted it out of here and I told them to call me on Monday and schedule a new delivery.  I'm glad it happened while I was here. Otherwise I would have come home to find a fridge in place with an inoperable door.

So, I've plugged the old one back in and put everything back into it. The new one looks great, I must say, but I cannot say I'm fond of the GE company at the moment.

You do not need wifi to use your kindle. You just need it for a few minutes when you want your ebooks to download. There must be some place that has wifi near you. Do you want access to free ebooks. Amazon is the best in this respect. Or do you just want to pay full price for whatever book you want.  I really cannot recommend the kindle highly enough. Love mine.

We are back from Dayton, where Richard visited a new (to us) podiatrist who, in a few weeks, will perform some conservative surgery on one of his toes.  We then had lunch at Panera and drove around Kettering Medical Center so that we know where we're going on the day of the procedure.

Jennifer, I really think you need to see your doctor for a complete exam.

I was going to suggest the same thing.  There should be loads of blood taken & tests to be run to find out why you have been so run down the last year.  It might be more than just catching things from your nieces.

Quote
My father did not like them (I think he had a friend who was killed on one), so we never had one...until neither of my parents wanted to drive my brother to summer football practice at six in the morning, so he got a bike from a relative or somewhere, but by that time I didn't care and would've have probably never learned to balance myself on one anyway.  And, frankly, I was kind of in my father's camp.  I liked something with sides around me.

I can understand your father's concerns.  I'm glad you didn't feel deprived not having one.

Oh, so we'll both be up early tomorrow.  I'm going on a bus trip with my Mom and her senior center friends to Ohio's Hocking Hills.  It was scheduled as a Fall Foliage Tour, but the fall foliage has past its peak.  It was beautiful on my drive to Indiana and back last week, but I'm afraid tomorrow will just be a long bus ride for lunch.

Travel vibes to you, dear friend!

Yesterday at the gym I saw one of my book club members and stopped to chat, which turned out to be a good thing.  She mentioned she couldn't get the book at the library and had to buy it at the book store & it was pricey at $20.  I was surprised about both comments but didn't think much about it.

Then she said the book store, that keeps a list of all book groups & the books they are reading plus gives us a discount, had the wrong book listed & the incorrect coordinator & said she needed me to call.  This conversation was 10 days ago & she had forgotten to let me know.  ::)

I was totally baffled how the book could be wrong since I had updated the bookstore's list just before this person was there. I of course called as soon as I got home.  I got lucky & spoke to the same person who took my info & confirmed she had done it correctly, yet it showed the book change.  Knowing which book it was changed to set off the light bulb in my head.

I called the person who told me the book was incorrect & sure enough she had mistaken an email for the February book as the November book.

Ten days!!!  I hope she was the only one reading the wrong book.  I will not be happy if people come to my house unprepared to discuss my book.  And yes, an email went out as soon as I got off the phone with the bookstore.

The email about the February book, which she purchased for $20, also mentions how to find it for a lot less.

I do feel bad for her because I know she has some medical issues that make her foggy at times though she is extremely bright.

Back from a wonderful couple of hours with the editor of Outside The Box - he did a fantastic job on the first episode of season two - I almost spit up my Diet Coke at one point because of the way he cut one particular laugh - it was always going to be one of the great laughs of the series, but he made it even funnier.  But the whole thing plays beautifully and other than a couple of pull-ups in the set-up scene to help the pace (maybe eliminating twenty seconds) it's just grand.  I made no changes at all in the first number, one tiny change in the second, and none in the third.  That's the way I like it.  He's just so on my wavelength in terms of the humor.

Hi all!  Sorry I've been away but you know me, I get depressed and then I can't say anything.  It is really rough at work and there was nothing happening with the house.

I finely have some good news--was told that they are going to post the permits tomorrow.  I guess that means things really are going to start shortly! ;)

I hope everyone is doing well.

Good news on the house!

I send a hug...

Well, I learned on tonight's news about how my credit card theft happened: monitors on 63 Barnes & Noble stores, including the one where I used to work at 82nd and Broadway.  Istopped in there several weeks ago to buy Godiva truffles for my dinner host when my friend Elena was in town.

You used your debit card?  We don't use ours since our account was hacked at Costco.  No one said for sure it was Costco but they were the only place we used the debit card.  Now they take American Express cards.

I do not have credit cards but I am seriously considering getting a few visa gift cards or pre-paid cards. I am thinking they might be safer for online purchases, etc.

Jennifer, I really think you need to see your doctor for a complete exam.

I was going to suggest the same thing.  There should be loads of blood taken & tests to be run to find out why you have been so run down the last year.  It might be more than just catching things from your nieces.

Not run down the last year, only the last month.  I don't really have any other symptoms. And it is common (for me at least) to feel a bit under the weather when the seasons change. I"m not really sick. I've often felt under the weather for a while. But then it goes away.

If i felt like crap i would definitely go to the doctor. But what should i say now. That i'm 70%. Most people probably feel only 70% much of the time. It mostly impacts my ability to exercise.

With the right credit card you can get cash back.  The key is to pay everything off immediately without monthly interest payments.

;D

I've read some books I would never had read and been very glad I did.  This has happened more than the books I wish I had never read & would not have done so on my own.  There are clubs with more selective categories which are more difficult to find unless they are mystery groups.

Even books I have disliked have had great discussions, sometimes better than a book that everyone likes.

I need to add the last two book I read. Just got done reading one by Louise Erdrich  called Islands and Books. It is more a personal journey to understand the rock paintings on rocks in Northern Minnesota and Ontario from an Ojibwe perspective.

Interesting book... I have been chewing on some of her comments for several days.

I'm surprised they didn't just switch it at your apartment. You can change the side it opens on without getting a new door.  Apparently the delivery men didn't know that

Love mine.

I love my Nook.  Their new one is really just a reader.  My old nook had 3G so I didn't need wifi to download, but I'm not sure they make them that way anymore

I thought the delivery men changed the door if it needed to be changed.

They probably couldn't fix it.

When my dryer door needed to have the direction switched I was told they don't do this due to lack of time in the scheduling, then he kindly fixed it for me.

You can fix them, they probably just didn't know how

The new cat sitter was a nightmare.  I came home to things moved around, mostly just things, not furniture, but also my bills my info on my accident etc.  It really bothered me.  I know she wants to be my cleaning person and to help me reorganize my house, but I didn't ask her to do any of that and it upset me.   I may have been ok if she had called me when she had problems with Callie the first night and if Callie hadn't been a mess and very very upset when I got home.  She had her medicine all over her (it's a sticky mess) and not long after I got home was throwing up.  She was very angry and wouldn't let me go near her.

Needless to say I was totally upset.  It took me hours to get Callie to calm down. Hours to get her cleaned up and a couple days for things to get back to normal.  I am looking for a new cat sitter.  Someone who is more interested in taking care of my cats than rearranging my house.

RFID

Radio-frequency identification!  I hate so sound like "the sky is falling," but this is a very real problem.  The crook only has to walk past you with this very small electronic device and can instantly have all the information off of your credit cards or debit cards or passports.

And the Supervisor Book Camp is over.  I did learn a lot.  I realize that I've had it pretty easy with my staff...there haven't been any kind of problems, really.  Some of the other participants are dealing with some heavy issues in their jobs.  One woman has a staff member who paid $16,000 in invoices but the items were never delivered. :o

George!  Are you back home?

I'm home and on my very own computer!  I'll get to sleep in my very own bed, too! :D

Do you work in the morning?

Yup...back to my normal schedule.

We are back from Dayton, where Richard visited a new (to us) podiatrist who, in a few weeks, will perform some conservative surgery on one of his toes.  We then had lunch at Panera and drove around Kettering Medical Center so that we know where we're going on the day of the procedure.

~~~Toe Vibes for Richard!!~~~
My friend Kim Criswell's movies is now on DVD in the US and Amazon just sent me my copy. It's a bawdy comedy and I recommend the film. Kim has the wildest scene.
I just ordered the Blu-ray!
Has anybody found any new series that they really enjoy?
I decided not to watch many new shows. I am watching ARROW and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. I"ve only seen one ep of the first and two of the latter. So far I really like BATB.
I"m really enjoying "Nashville."  It's a bit melodramatic with the young singer's story and her drug-addicted mother, though.
Hi all!  Sorry I've been away but you know me, I get depressed and then I can't say anything.  It is really rough at work and there was nothing happening with the house.
I finely have some good news--was told that they are going to post the permits tomorrow.  I guess that means things really are going to start shortly! ;)
I hope everyone is doing well.
Congrats on the permits, Danise!  Good luck!!
Back from a wonderful couple of hours with the editor of Outside The Box - he did a fantastic job on the first episode of season two - I almost spit up my Diet Coke at one point because of the way he cut one particular laugh - it was always going to be one of the great laughs of the series, but he made it even funnier.  But the whole thing plays beautifully and other than a couple of pull-ups in the set-up scene to help the pace (maybe eliminating twenty seconds) it's just grand.  I made no changes at all in the first number, one tiny change in the second, and none in the third.  That's the way I like it.  He's just so on my wavelength in terms of the humor.
Sounds great, BK!
Back from the engineer's home environment - we listened to the live recording of Juliana Hansen's show, which sounds very good - just debating whether I actually want to release it or not.  And we recorded all the Stephen Findle dialogue for the first two episodes, so that's done.
BK, have you made other recordings for people that haven't been released?  What if you put together something like a "Directed by Kimmel" compilation and had a few tracks from each so that the performers could be on a released CD but you wouldn't have to worry about whether each performer's CD would sell enough...assuming that you had recorded other performers' acts.  Since it would be one CD with multiple performers, each of their fans would be interested in the one CD and more people would buy it.
Just an idea. :)
And now, since I haven't gotten much sleep over the past couple of days, I'm going to bed (after I brush my teeth and get ready).
