TOD: First date was probably in between junior and senior years of high school. I was studying in Barcelona for awhile and the trip was bookended with stops in London and Paris. In Paris, I met up with a girl who had studied in France. Alison and I decided to go to Maxim's for dinner. I wasn't really dressed for the occasion and I had been robbed the week before, so I had to use Alison's credit card to pay for the meal, until I got back home.

Alison didn't go to my high school, but she did end up marrying someone who did. So, I manage to see her at our class reunions and we've caught up on Facebook.

Good morning, all!

I slept quite poorly last night, and I have no idea what was the problem. At 1:30 I posted on HHW, and at some point after 2am, I finally dozed off.  I will crash at some point in the afternoon.

Oh we would go to houses with just lights on if they were giving candy. Our rule is only to figure out which houses are giving out candy.

guess I am confused, Jennifer.  If this isn't a caramel apple or a red candy one; then what kind of candy apple is it that you are eating?

It does look like caramel or red candy. But it wasn't sweet like those ones usually are.

I guess the lady made the recipe herself. It looked exactly like one of the delicious ones. Had the same texture. But wasn't really sweet and yummy like they usually are. I have no idea how she managed to accomplish this.

Halloween was fun.  Not many kids walk around any more under 15 years old.   My friend's house is at the end of the street, and the houses up the street have a huge block party.  So the kids do not go very far from that.

Which is good and safe.  They have plenty of fun and candy to make them sleep for the night.

TOD

First date was 1963 when I was 17. I phoned and asked out a 16 year old girl who I knew who lived a few houses from me. She said she would ask her parents if she could go out with me. I received a letter from her saying she could go and what time to call on her. I called on the arranged Saturday evening and her parents asked me in, while she got ready. They asked me about my interests, my job and my prospects etc. I felt like saying it was just a first date and that I wasn't actually asking for her hand in marriage :). We went to the local cinema but I can't remember what film we saw. We were both on our first date and felt a bit awkward.

I loved reading about all of the trick or treaters last night.  I left home about 5 p.m. so I didn't see many.  I did see many on the street here and in Greencastle as I was arriving at the PAC....

Several of the SCREAM character....those costumes are freaky....lots of princesses....vampires....and as I said....one hot dog.....

I am having such a hard time trying to find a cat sitter.  And I worry about what happens if there is a snow storm when I'm gone.  With Sharon I didn't worry, but I don't know with other people.  So I'm going to go out to http://www.dogwoodpethotel.com/index.html and check out their cat wing.   I may be able to have all three cats stay in the same suite.  There is a live in caretaker so if there is a storm someone is there to care for the animals.  It's worth checking out.  It seems to be more dog oriented, but they have a cat wing, so I'm thinking this may not be bad.

I hope this works out so you don't have to worry about your cats getting sick while you are gone.

I'm up, I'm up.  I was awakened by a telephonic call from Michael Sterling of Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal.  His guest on his radio show cancelled and he asked if I'd come in to replace and I said I'd be happy to.  So, I have to be in the studio, which is in the Oaks of Sherman, by about twelve-thirty.  Which means if I'm to eat before six I have to go grab something at eleven or so.  That's probably okay - just a quick sandwich will be good.

Is anyone watching "Pwoject Wunway All Stars"?

Tonight is the second episode.  Last week, Peach Carr was sent home. (She never should have been on it in the first place as she has a very limited approach to design and zero flexibility, it seems).

Tonight, I'm wondering if the "real" Ivy Higa will be on display.  She's one of the all-time great villains of Project Runway, alongside Wendy Pepper and Angela whatshername and Gretchen whatsehername.

Last week, Ivy seemed to have acknowledged that she was in a very bad place during her PR season and was out to make amends.  In her first challenge, she was wonderful and her outfit was the best work she's ever done on the show.

Previews, however, seemed premonitory....as in Elton Johns' "The Bitch is Back".

Because Mitt Romney
  1.  knows that New York is a pro-Obama state, he's ignoring the devastation in Manhattan and environs,
  2.  has made photo-ops of doing charity work for victims in the swng states where he might gain some votes,
  3.  has until quite recently been very much against FEMA,
I have no problem with posting this. It's funny, and pretty accurate if you're running for president of the fraternity!

Thursday afternoon greetings!  Today was Richard's official pre-op visit with the podiatrist who's going to operate on his foot in 2 weeks.  We had to leave for Dayton at 8:30am and it took quite a while.  Had coffee afterwards at the Starbucks nearby and ran into a former library co-worker, also now-retired.  We did a couple of errands on the way home and I had lunch and tried to take a nap to make up for being awake since 4:45 this morning.  My left foot kept cramping, so I gave up on the nap and am now trying to do some desk work.

Not sure if it is a good show or not, but guest starring on several upcoming episodes is one of my favorite current day actors, Jason Beghe, playing a bad police officer.

I think I first notice Jason Beghe when he played one of Matt's boyfriend's, or maybe he was just a friend, on MELROSE PLACE.

Very cool photo, DR Elmore.  In 2008 our neighbor to the west had power before we did and, if she'd been a nicer person, she'd have offered to let us string our outdoor cord to her house.  But the only reason she speaks to us is to complain about how our yard doesn't meet her standards.

I still haven't forgiven BK for not inviting me to watch the filming of OUTSIDE THE BOX when I was in LA last time...and the guest star was Gregory Harrison.

I'd have been all over that.

Which could be why I wasn't invited.

Thanks all, glad you like the pics.

I haven't mentioned his son to David as yet.....I figured he gets that too much.

And according to his Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Cryer) entry:

Quote
In recent years, he is best known for the role of Firmin in The Phantom of the Opera, which he has played for nearly 19 years on the road and on Broadway. He has also played more performances of the Bernstein Mass, as The Celebrant (including at the Metropolitan Opera and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts) and more performances as Juan Peron in Evita than any other actor.

DR TCB read the descriptions under "caramel" apples.  This link is from my small local Rocky Mountain Chocolate store.

Jane, I guess I was just having trouble understanding Jennifer's post last ngiht (I wasn't feeling very well).  I thought she was saying that this apple wasn't caramel and it wasn't red candy.  Those are the only kinds of candy apples that I know about. Believe me, I have had my share of both the caramel (with and without additions) and red candy apples.

Never mind, it is better just to forget the whole covnersation.  Sorry Jane.  Sorry Jennifer.

It was an understandable question if those are the only two kinds of apples you have had.  I doubt I could bite into a red candy apple without breaking a tooth.  Those were good though.  As an adult I like the caramel & chocolate ones best.

Yes, when I remember it is on.  Last night, I watched THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CLARLIE BROWN and that horrible new show THE NEIGHBORS; AND THEN remembered that ARROW was on at the same time.

I have a dear friend in L.A. who's granddaughter has a class project to collect as many post cards from around the US as possible.  They don't know many out of state people & only have Oregon, of course, AZ & FL covered, though duplicates are welcome.

Would any DR's be so kind as to send a post card?  If so let me know & I will send you their address.

Thanks.

Greetings.

Still in the dark and cold.  Still schlepping to places like Panera Bread to sit for a spell, recharge things, and say hi to the world.  The work to be done on our street, as I see it, is proceeding in as piecemeal a fashion as I believe is humanly possible.  Power company has said the state should be 95% or 98% up by Monday night.  You can't get any further or more detailed information out of them.

Called my electrician today.  He'll be over next week to help me decide on a generator and start the process.  No way I'm not doing it.

Last night I watched what I presume is a mid-season replacement tv show titled CHICAGO FIRE.

It would be a little early for a mid-season show.  It is part of NBC's Fall Season.

Do you like this doctor better than the one who operated on your food?

You mean, like this?

Needless to say, "Casablanca" is still one of the greats. I focused tonight on how astounding Claude Rains is, and how different he is from when he and Ingrid did "Notorious." Is there a character actor on the scene today as versatile as he was?

This comment has nothing to do with EDWIN DROOD, but rather some of the players on THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.

I lost some money making the change, but it's worth it.  I love to play in concerts, even though I'm not as good as I used to be and my shoulder hurts when I play.  I really can't wait to play the flute choir music.  The night I would have missed was Christmas in the pioneer village in a nearby town.  It's a really cool event and when I heard we were playing and I couldn't be there, it was pretty much the last straw.

I remember my Grandpa Al with all of his WWII navy tatoos.  Not a pretty sight.

No, it's not that easy for them to get here.  I do give them a cd of every concert and there are links to the concerts online a few weeks after we play so they've heard the music

TOD:

My first date was with a guy named AJ and we went to a basketball game where the home team got beaten really bad. The score was 89 to 30.

Back from rehearsal, after 7 years of this show, I really don't like "Mr Fezziwig's Annual Christmas Ball", cuz I can never get the cast to do it right when they finally get on stage.  It needs a click track, like a lot of the choral numbers in the show, but that ain't gonna happen.  I wish I could do something to make it better, but I can't.  No magic here.

Tomorrow is another day.
