Well, you've read the notes, the notes rhapsodized about Beer Nuts, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating some Beer Nuts and watching The MOO Who Knew Too Much.

Collapsing in relief at having HEAT, LIGHT, HOT WATER.
May DR vixmom, DR Ben, et al, be next. For now, a happy good night to all.

Good morning, all.
Congratulations on power being restored, DR ChasSmith.
Power vibes and waves of warmth for all.

Good morning.
MEGA VIBES.
:) ;)

Good morning. I didn't feel like staying up and finishing my brief last night, so I'm here at the office very early (for me) today. If I get started in the next 10 minutes or so I'll have a good half hour before Edith gets to work and the phone starts ringing. I think I can finish up in that amount of time
-
DR Jennifer, thanks for your comments last night. I have to say that I'm amazed how relieved I feel after cancelling that trip. It seemed like every day something else would come up that was a conflict or a problem related to that weekend.
-
Mega vibes to all in NYC...especially those in the cold and the dark. May today be the day that your power is restored!
-
Ok, better get to work or getting here this early was for naught.
-
Good morning, all! The laundry is in the dryers, and the winter bedding on the bed. It's now getting chilly, so I guess we've passed Indian Summer.
I have nothing to report here. The City is still relatively quiet, and there seems little traffic so far. I have no plans today, but I do believe that tomorrow I will head down to Toyland. My vacation needs to end.
DR ChasSmith, great news!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes to everyone suffering from the hurricane devastation! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friday morning greetings! Today I'm having the perm that was originally scheduled for 2 weeks from today. I'd moved it to next Friday when Richard's surgery was scheduled, but decided that I probably won't feel like being there the day after my colonoscopy.
Yes, but that wasn't a movie. Just a backstage story.
Good Morning to all. Vibes to all too!
As predicted yesterday became today and it's definitley another day.
Happy next day to all!!! I'm off to work.
Great Filichia on Friday. BK, his topic of Chess reminded me of your comment earlier this week about people not wanting to see R&H, Porter, Kern as much as today's writers. What about a show with songs written for the stage by people who are known more for writing pop material or just more pop/rock for the stage. You could do "Chess," "Dreamgirls," "Faust," "Don't Stop the Carnival," or even some of the jukebox stuff that's ended up on stage form "Jersey Boys" to "All Shook Up." It may not be legit theater music in all instances, but it would probably fill some seats.
My DN Laura, who was with me at DR PennyO's show in NYC in 2005, lives in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois, where BEER NUTS (http://www.beernuts.com) are made. There are 2 company stores in the area and she always brings products from there when she comes to visit.
-
The laundry is finished, my bed completely winterized, and I'm wondering what to tackle next.
DR JohnG, I loved the movie "Eating Raul," but you have no idea how poorly it was executed onstage. It was an ugly, inept production. My whole memory of it now is the dreadful synth orchestrations.
It's time to order the Hitchcock set
I've got to get the Hitchcock set sometime as well. In which connection, with all the viewpoints being expressed, I'll repeat what I said somewhere else;
I may read reviews but I never base my buying decisions on them because if it's a favourite film then I will buy it and know that it's going to be an upgrade over the DVD. It particularly annoys me when reviewers say if a title is recommended for a purchase. Thank you... but I don't need someone else to tell me what to buy or what not to buy. Not that bk does that of course :)
Thank goodness for HHW and for BK's notes. Without them, I would never have known that today is Friday. It isn't like I had decided that today was some different day of the week, I really hadn't thought about it one way or another. But when BK wrote, "Today is Friday....."; I thought to myself, "Self, this can't possibly be Friday. But it must be true, because BK told me so.."
From DR Chas:
POWER CAME ON AT 2:00 AM!!!
WONDERFUL!!!!
I'm up after a really good night's sleep, which I really needed.
As much as I'm annoyed at The Man Who Knew Too Much's shortcomings, I can tell you it's a huge step up from the previous DVD and that most people will be fine with it.
The NY Marathon this Sunday is today's bone of contention: there are generators and shelter brought in to keep the runners comfortable while the people in Long Island and Staten Island with no power - in some cases, no shelter or food - are justifiably fraught over this news.
My "Irene" friend has a discussion going on about it at her FB friend. While she luckily came through Sandy fine friends close by were some of the hardest hit by this storm. They can't get money, food, gas, etc. They are understandable very angry. One suggestion was each person planning to run the marathon take in supplies instead.
We are so used to seeing these types of photos after every disaster that happens around the world, which is why I have to remind myself that these are Americans. These are New Yorkers.
I did not have to go to rehearsal last night - but tonight we are doing the WHOLE SHOW beginning at 6 p.m. - so we shall see.
I am sure at one time or another David will mention his son.....or I will come upon a conversation with he and others about it....but as the snippet that DR TCB posted last night, David has had quite an interesting career himself.
Our costumes are in, but my fitting is not until Sunday at 5:45 p.m. - and we will also be having our Head Shots for the show taken that day....so.....it will be a busy day.
No rehearsal on Saturday, so of course I will be working at the World of Wisdom.
Around noon, I stepped out to buy a wedding gift, and the buses are packed with nannies and mothers taking their children shopping since the schools are closed. All I can say is, open the schools ASAP! I am amazed at the number of rude, undisciplined noisy obnoxious children breeding in this town.
I wrote him to ask for a postcard from DC and he said he will post soon.....
Well, not intentionally, but I usually buy more than I send when we're traveling so a small stash has developed. I'm so glad when there's a fun way to pay them forward.
As usual, when a crisis like this occurs, I want the help in some way, but I find myself at a loss. So, a financial donation is about the only thing I can do. I dislike The Red Cross (a personal thing) so I give to World Vision. Not only are they headquartered here in the Northwest (Federal Way), but I always feel that they go the extra mile.
Here they are out distributing already on a street in Queens, even though a large warehouse of theirs in New York was flooded.
Dear reader Jose is in Facebook-only land. I never understand this, but it seems to happen when he's working in Washington doing shows. I suppose he'll be back in three or four months.
Had a cobb salad and a cup of chicken soup for lunch. No packages and, irritatingly, no important envelope.
Will jog in about an hour.
I had to do some Kritzerland business, busy-work, but that's done now. It took almost an hour.
The laundry is finished, my bed completely winterized, and I'm wondering what to tackle next.
DR JohnG, I loved the movie "Eating Raul," but you have no idea how poorly it was executed onstage. It was an ugly, inept production. My whole memory of it now is the dreadful synth orchestrations.
A shame because it seems like it should work well as a play.
Pug, the artistic direcor of Theater Artists Olympia, would like to do "Evil Dead: The Musical," but the royalties would cost too much for us. :-\
Sunday's NY Marathon has been cancelled.
It is about time. What a waste of The City's resources at a time like this.
The Mayor said it swas better cancelled than to be a source of contention at this time.
I would prefer he just say that it was the right thing to do.
-
Elmore, thanks for all the updates.
It's my pleasure. We do what we can. I'm hoping in the next couple of hours DR Ben wil surprise us with a post that he's back in fine fettle.
-
Elmore, thanks for all the updates.
Better than CNN!
I am tired of people blaming this terrible storm on my wife, Sandy.
STOP IT!
;D
I could use a card from Texas ;)
Did I miss something? Are you collecting post cards?
Yes. My friend's granddaughter needs to collect them from around the US for a school project & they don't know many people out of state. May I send you her address?
-
The power is on in the Lower East Side and East Village.
:)
One friend in PA just got her power back after 92 hours without.
DR Jane's post from last night:
I have a dear friend in L.A. who's granddaughter has a class project to collect as many post cards from around the US as possible. They don't know many out of state people & only have Oregon, of course, AZ & FL covered, though duplicates are welcome.
Would any DR's be so kind as to send a post card? If so let me know & I will send you their address.
Thanks.
Thank you for re-posting this.
Thank you DR John G.
I did miss that. DR Jane, pm me the address. I can send one from Iowa and go across the river and get one from Nebraska. Oh! And I'm going to South Dakota tomorrow to check out the pet hotel, so I may be able to do the whole tri-state area.
Fantastic! She needs all three of these states.
Marathons in good times are a horrible pain to have going on. I'm glad they canceled the NY one.
We have one coming up this weekend that will affect my getting outside the neighborhood. I hate that they close down public streets for a for-profit company.
-
And now, I have to catch Sasha to take her to the vet for a recheck and report of her previous tests. Wish me luck.
The heater in our bedroom stopped working last night. Fortunately, after about an hour, Keith was able to get the emergency heat to kick on. It is still working, for how long we don't know. Since the repair guy couldn't come today I have put clean sheets on in the guest room just in case we have to switch rooms.
I hope if the heat does goes go out again it won't be in the middle of the night.
It was easy. Just throw ground beef, rice, tomato sauce, onion and cabbage together. Bake and serve. You could probably use more rice and more cabbage in it instead of the meat.
Power and heat just came on, lost internet will be back when can. My mom got her power back early today.
Whoa!
FANTASTIC!
And don't sweat the internet. Power and heat are EVERYTHING. :)
It's wonderful being able to listen/watch/relax in my music and movie room for the first time in two weeks -- following the week-plus in L.A., and the storm.
Got some great listening done with the latest Kritzerland CDs, and dipped my toes into the water with JUBLIEE and EILEEN. Relaxing and enjoyable.
-
SOOO happy that the power seems to be on for everyone.
Me too, but also relieved that everyone is safe and sound.
10:20pm here. I'll post more tomorrow. Just good to be back to normal.
I spent the evening cleaning out the defrosted freezer and refrigerator. It couldn't wait any longer because some things were starting to smell.
We have hot water and tomorrow I'll have a cup of coffee!!! I walked uptown today to get my hair cut. I wanted to wait and go to my barber but it was just beginning to drive me crazy so I went to a barber I used to go to when I lived on 46th Street and 9th Avenue (in 1982). He didn't remember me but it's been 30 years and he did a good job. I'm sure Yuri, my current barber will understand. I don't even know if the shop will be open tomorrow anyway and he lives in Queens which was particularly hard hit so he may not be cutting hair for a few more days anyway.
That's enough for now. It's time to climb into bed and turn out the light (that's good to say) and go to sleep in a warm apartment.
Nytol!
Sorry I desserted you last night, Cilla.
Hello out there in Hainsieland!!
-
Internet is back but spotty - but I have lights and HEAT blessed blessed HEAT!!
-
My Mom called me at work and told me her power had come back but I did not dare to hope that ours woudl be taken care of as wqell
-
When I got home the light swere on - and then I opednde the front door and was created by warm air
-
I was so happy I nearly cried
-
I am so please to see that Ben, Anthony and Chas are also powered up!!
-
The lines for gasoline are extraodinary -- this morning I drove by a line that extended for over two miles
-
The younguns at work (the under 30's) were expressing hteir surprise that people would queue so long fpr gas - we older ones started recounting tales of teh gas shortages of the 70's withthe odd/even system
My friedns and I used to sleep in our cars at the gas station over night to ensure we got gas ands got to work on time
-
AS more people get power I am hoping the problem resolves itself a little -- many station s have gas but no power so could not pump and as more people get power the use of generators will decrease
-
Glad to hear that everyone has power and heat now!
-
Welcome back, DR Vixmom - we missed you!
-
And welcome back to DR Ben!
-
Vixdad went back tot work to day for the first time this week -- with no train or subway service he couldn't get in
I drove him to the station because we were afraid if he left his car in the parking lot that all the gas would be siphoned out by time he got home
-
HI Ginny & Laura!
The second film of the evening was "High Society," which I love. But my DVD is messed up, and I missed two songs in the middle. I hate it when that happens.
Finished with my viewing.
I just watched Ellen DeGeneres and "The Mark Twain Prize." The people who spoke in tribute to her were pretty darned funny. My sister's boyfriend said that he was going to record it and make a Blu-ray of it and he's going to make a Blu-ray copy for me. :)
