Happy Anniversary to us all! What a swell place this is. Thank you for making it for us, BK.

I know that the Food pantries and Soup Kitchen around here welcome leftover Halloween candy - its a treat for the people in need that they do not usually get and cannot afford to spend money on - rather than throw the candy in the garbage perhaps you might consider donating it to one of them?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HHW!!
thank you BK for making and keeping this here site - I have met many dear friends here I would not otherwise have met and have learned many new things here I otherwise would not have learned

I am not generally a fan of strongly worded emails - I think it leads to grief, burned bridges and locked doors

Good morning, all!
I will shortly head to the post office to mail a set of the Herbert songs to a friend in DC before I head down to Toyland. After that, I shall head home, rest for a bit, and get ready to go out for dinner tonight on the Upper East Side with my Dublin friends Lynda, Fionnuala, and Hugh. We are the guests of a friend of Fionnuala.
!!!!!!!!!!! Happy HHW Anniversary to one and all !!!!!!!!!!!

Had to take half a Benedryl last night in order to be able to sleep, so I'm somewhat groggy this morning. I hate that feeling, but I wouldn't be able to sleep without it.

Maybe they do not realize how they are acting.
Maybe they do.
Parent's reactions are tricky. I know, I've been dealing with someone's reaction to the things I tell him about his kids for over a year. His eyes and ears are closed when it comes to his kids. Only 2 times he opened them where in court with his ex-wife.
I've given up. The kids lost my wanting to help them. Maybe I'll try again when they get older.
So now I just keep peace and stay away.
Vixmon is right, talk to a lawyer who is a friend.
Just my thoughts.
;D

Off to work.
Have a really really really happy day here at HHW.
Happy Anniversary bk.

Don't send the letter.
I have no idea what the situation is, but you've already vented your emotions in writing the letter.
Sending ti can only throw gasoline onto the fire.

Happy Anniversary to us!!!

DR TCB - recorded music in a musical certainly has its place in these times, especially in a smaller venue with little or no space for musicians. I've never had an "accident" in performance (knock on wood) and I don't intend to. I tend to make it fool proof for vamps and such which takes a lot of editing and learning the show with the performers with the tracks. It's good for kids as they are able to rehearse with a track of what the music will be in performance. The more you rehearse with it, the more it settles in your body and you are less likely to "go up" at all.
Let me say it's NOT my preferred method of doing a musical, but it has its place and when it's used correctly, is an invaluable resource.
-
Gracious and aloof.
Those are the watchwords I usually attempt to embrace when I'm annoyed, irritated, hurt by a friend's/associate's words or deeds.
I'd certainly confide in "mutual" friends about my concerns and feelings about something, but I think vixmom and Druxy and Kerry are correct...the strongly worded e-mail will not solve -- but will accelerate deterioration of -- whatever the situation is.
If this is strictly business (i.e., no bonds of friendship ever involved), then strongly worded is the way to go.
My 7 1/2 cents worth.
-
Happy Millstone to each and every one of the Hainsie/Kimlets!
-
I am not generally a fan of strongly worded emails - I think it leads to grief, burned bridges and locked doors
I prefer your usual method of washing it down the drain
I agree. When I have been incensed enough to take dramatic action I invariably regret it later. And once done, there's no turning back. Best to move on.

I just went to yesterday and read the posts from after I went to sleep last night
Is she still doing the act, as you created it, elsewhere?
Are you able to legally place an injunction on her doing the act?
This is my question too. Is she still doing the act?
Sending the strong email because the parents have been rude is a separate issue to me. IF she is still doing the act and you don't want her to do it then that is one thing.
I don't think that you should send the email. This girl probably had nothing to do with your split from her. And since you were so close she is probably quite upset by it all.
If you don't want her to do the act and she is then that is another thing. You can nicely tell this to the parents.
Also, if you really want to contact the parents then you should be the bigger person. Do not make it a mean-spirited email to get it off your chest. Do not tell them you think they are rude. If you wanted you could tell them how hurt you were that they did not contact you re: the award. The thing is it feels like they burned their relationship with you. So they are probably too ashamed to contact you.
-
Happy anniversary!

Thanks for all the good thoughts, which are much appreciated. I'm weighing many things here and I understand all points of view. I have no idea if any of this is emanating from the youngster - there's no way for me to know that unfortunately. I think these people live in some kind of bubble and it's all about them. These are people who called me their guardian angel, these are people who told me I was family and then these are people who disappeared, then tried to make contact, which I responded to very positively while addressing the central problem. I received a kind of half-assed apology, to which I replied again very positively, saying I was glad we were past it - after which silence.
I have no idea whether they plan to do the act again, but if and when that happens I will put a stop to it. That part is easy and it will be done by a lawyer, not me. I've explained it all here - no need to beat it to death. The only question is to send or not to send. I'm going to re-read it in a bit and see how I feel. Some people suggest sending it and being done with it once and for all. I don't care about burning bridges when I'm not treated well and anyone who has read and understood the Kritzer books will understand my reaction here. The real question for me is if I don't send it will it continue to bug me - if I don't send it they never really know how I feel. I see no reason to temper what I wrote because they deserve to hear it in the strongest possible way. I don't expect any good to come from it IF I send it, and I don't care if any good comes from it. On the other hand, in the end other than getting it off my chest, what does it gain me? Nothing will change and they've done the damage, really. For all I know, they may be going through difficult times, but all it takes is a one-line e-mail of congratulations and thanks. How bloody hard is that? Certainly this woman is all over Facebook begging her friends to vote for her daughter - apparently she has all the time in the world for that and to contact every human being she knows so they can vote, which is why Melody is currently in second place. I'm easy - thank me and appreciate me if I've done something beyond the call of duty for your child - if I've put in a year and a half nurturing her talent and making her a better performer. They probably think THEY did it all, but I have given this girl incredible opportunities and material no one in their right mind would have ever given her - and then I've directed her carefully and she's gotten better and better for it. To just continue to ignore this reprehensible behavior is weird to me, but again, I understand all points of view here and I ultimately have to do what's going to make me the most comfortable so this doesn't gnaw at me. If I can truly wash it down the drain and not have residue, that would be the best. I don't know that that's possible, though.

On the other hand, they may be hurt you did not send a note of congratulations.

Send them an invoice.

BK, I'm in the don't send the e-mail camp. The trouble with an e-mail (or with a facebook post or a tweet or anything internetty for that matter) what you feel that you've expressed in the message may not be what the recipient gets from it. Is it possible to meet up with these people at some time and let them know face-to-face how you feel?

Is she still doing the act, as you created it, elsewhere?
Are you able to legally place an injunction on her doing the act?
My questions/thoughts as well.
I feel bad for the girl caught in the middle of this.
I'm not sure the girl IS caught in the middle - there's no way for me to know that. However, months ago when all this was starting, I contacted a lawyer about the act and, in fact, there is already a letter drafted that will be sent immediately should they attempt to book the act I created. Oh, they can do some act, but they can't use the songs I wrote, the title, any of the patter I contributed to (80%) or any of my arrangements that I provided gratis (70%). I control all of that.
And the decision has been made. I will not send the e-mail - it was good to write it and be done with it, but after talking to a mutual friend theirs and mine, there's just no point. These people live in their own peculiar world and just don't get it. And if they don't get it (and this mutual friend has tried to make them get it) then nothing I write will help them. I know that I did a lot for their child and I feel good about that. And that's the bottom line.

Very nice review, BK!

In other news, I'm on my way to the editing room. I woke up this morning with a thought about episode one - something that's been buzzing in the back of my mind. I discussed it early this morning with the editor, who understood what I was talking about but wasn't sure he agreed completely. Then I talked to a couple of people who were at the screening and got their opinions, and the editor came up with a solution that would help address my concern but not make it a huge change, basically just removing one little shot. I felt there's a song where we reveal something and this morning I began to question if the reveal wasn't splitting the joke or the focus. It certainly worked fine at the screening, but the editor's suggestion is to perhaps hold the reveal till the second verse of the song. I do think that might help so we're going in to see if we like that change. If so, we'll make it and he'll make me two new files - compressed and uncompressed and I'll have both versions and I can watch tomorrow and make my decision just before I upload. This is the problem with being a nitpicky perfectionist.
-

So very true. It is difficult enough in person.

Good luck with the re-edit, BK. :)

You did the right thing. You might ask if they saw your comments on FB, which the probably did. I really think that would be enough.
I'm actually kind of surprised you are still on FB with them. Of course good for you so you can track if they are using your material or not. Send the email & they might remove you.
Bruce I used to write letters like this to my sister and then not send them. The few I did taught me that it was useless.

I am relieved you aren't sending it. Since the girl didn't respond at all to your FB comments she may not be as much in the middle as one would think. Either way, they are her parent's and she won't go against their wishes.
I'm sorry this all happened.

On the way to Best Buy yesterday to return the keyboard Keith had purchased, and wasn't thrilled with, we discussed if I should get the mini-iPad your not. Having tested the Nook app on Keith's iPad we found I won't be able to purchase books from Barnes & Noble or keep a wish list with them. My library selection would also be rather limited.
I said, I suppose I will get the new Nook Color and Keith responded that he had just, yesterday morning, read something about a new Nook HD 7" tablet coming out shortly. While I ran into the mall to buy a desk calendar I wanted he looked up info on it. The review he found was very good.
Delay long enough have new technology keeps coming out. I have high hopes I will soon be able to upgrade, my sometimes difficult, Nook Color. :)
-
I stayed home from the gym today to clean the house. I had better get started.

I recently entrusted my Nook Color in the hands of someone at church. He took it and now I have a devise on which I can get both Nook and Kindle and just read them separately. Now, if only I had time to read ...

Why would you not be able to buy ebooks from Barnes & Noble on the ipad?? My sister has the kindle app on her ipad and she can buy from amazon.com just like i can from my kindle.

I know that I did a lot for their child and I feel good about that.
And there you have the most important part!

Well, this is a pretty sad story: Seattle anchor dies of diabetes-related seizure (http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20121109/Seattle.anchor/?cid=hero_media_sea).
He just started the job a week ago...and got married only two weeks ago. :(

DR Jennifer, B & N & Amazon compete for the book market. It is possible one or both of them don't want to share.

Have fun DR ELMORE.
DR JANE that is very nice!!
-
OK - off for performance two of THE CRUCIBLE.
-
Back from the editing room - did what the editor suggested and I think it works very well and he really likes it, too and is glad I brought it up. We showed both versions to someone where the edit room is and he liked the new one for the right reasons and then at lunch I explained to someone else what we'd done and just hearing it he liked the sound of the new version - it was very simple - just removing one shot that revealed an actress - that shot now first occurs as the second verse is two-thirds through and it's much better there for the reveal - it keeps the first bit very clean and the reveal is a surprise that now makes sense.
-
Lunch was fun. I'm dickering about putting out Dan Guntzelman's documentary on the Kentwood Players, the thing that was show on local PBS here.

Thank you. I'm getting excited & I haven't even seen the new Nook.

I think this is funny. Who watched this Superbowl commercial?
Don't worry, this link is not the commercial, it is where the idea for it came from.

What is this page four on our anniversary? Some waltz. Maybe we should do the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance).
-
I've put the piano tracks we're using for the shoot on my laptop and I'll burn a couple of back-up CDs, too. I also found out something I didn't know about Ye Olde Computer - I can burn DVDs in here - have to put the movie in iDVD and then it's easy.
-
I don't like operating on three and a half hours of sleep and it's not good for the patient I'm operating on.

I need to return to my cleaning-goofed off too much and today is my only day to do it. I don't have much light left so I had better hurry.

Well, I'm off to work concessions for Warren Miller. Wish me luck...it's going to be a madhouse!
Be back later.

How can page four be this LONG?
-
Still?
-
Waiting for my friends to show up for dinner. Can't turn left, can't turn right.
-
Thinking about eating, and watching something. Something good. Really good. What will it be?
-
Got home. Tired. Still have a rehearsal this eve. Friday's are long.
-
Next Twilight Time up would be RAPTURE. Got some Criterions that need watching, too.
-
Finally ordered the Hitchcock set. Decided on the UK "limited edition". It should be here in a week.
-
HAPPY HHW ANNIVERSARY TO ALL!
-
Gotta some some more posting going.
-
Everybody out on the town like DR Elmore?
-
I could sure use a cheeseburger.
-
But I'll settle for whatever I can scrounge.

Okay, must go do things. I hereby yield the floor to..........

We are fully cast for next week. Finally. Our final actor is a really wonderful performer named Nick Santa Maria - a Barry Pearl suggestion.

Starting to watch "The Inspector General." I'm enjoying it so far, maybe because Danny Kaye hasn't shown up yet.

Spoke too soon. There he is.

I love Danny Kaye, always have.

stuck in the middle of the floor AGAIN?
-
I am enjoying this. I like Danny Kaye in some things, especially "The Court Jester," but in some others movies he can be too twee to endure.
-
I have never seen or heard the expression twee before-had to look it up.
-
And? Do you agree?
-
It has been too long since I've seen "The Inspector General." Of course it doesn't compare to "The Court Jester" in script or acting. IMHO few movies do.
-
I have never seen or heard the expression twee before-had to look it up.
It's a favorite expression of Vixdad

WOW, 11 YEARS! No wonder I fee so old ;)

A bit of my childhood has been given back to me. A friend in Austin recently gave me a DVD of musical highlights from "The Johnny Cash Show," with everybody from Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell to George Jones and Credence Clearwater Revival. We used to watch that show every week. I wasn't big on country music back then, but Johnny Cash made all kinds of music acceptable and inviting.
I'm glad I just finished my work. I wanna sit here and watch all of this.
-
Happy Anniversary!

Good evening one and all...

It's amazing, isn't it? Eleven full years and going into our twelfth. I really miss some of the people who've passed on. And I miss one or two of the dear readers we've lost for one reason or another. And I miss page six.
-
Ah, there it is now.
-
I love Danny Kaye, twee (eewt, spelled backwards) or not.
-
It just occurred to me that straw spelled backwards is warts. Yes, I love this site, straw and all.

I am completely tuckered out after a long day of judging forensics and debate. It was fun and rewarding day as I greatly enjoy watching young people present their speeches. I judged Informative, Prose, After Dinner Speeches and Dramatic Duo.
I was impressed that a person used Guy Haines. I was very surprised they were aware of him. It was a fun speech to listen to as the person incorporated one of his pieces with cuttings from humourous stories. I was impressed.
It was fun and rewarding day. I am tuckered out... I will be judging again tomorrow.

It was nice to see our very own DR ArnoldMBrockman as one of the original HHW pioneers

Happiest of Anniversaries, BK and all the Haines-Kimlets! I celebrate with cheese chunks and ham hunks and dancing the wa-wa-watusi!

I wish Pogue would come to LA for a visit - and now that I think that, I think I may have to go to Bird's tomorrow.

GOOD EVENING AND HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!!!!
-
I was going to write a catchy Anniversary poem, but I kept starting out with
Happy Anniversary to Us...we live in a bus.... a tad too twee for me so i stopped
-
It's going to be 74 degrees tomorrow, then thunderstorms, then snow and Sunday highs in the mid 30s. Guess I better try to get the rest of my outdoor work done tomorrow
-
Had another busy day, but am really glad it's Friday
-
I'll send chili! Re: this issue and the email. My advice: don't send it. As Churchill sez: "Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty but the pig likes it." Or words to that effect. You keep mentioning matters that may require a lawyer. If so, let the lawyers handle it...and don't bother interacting with these people (whoever they mihgt be) directly.
-
Tonight I practiced my flutes for awhile. I have 2 concerts for concert band with different music on Dec 8 and 9 and two concert/ events for flute choir - more different music, and today i got the music to play my flute with the church choir in my home town at the midnight service Christmas even (it ends at midnight). I'm loving it.
-
I have a sign that says "never try to teach a pig to sing, it wastes your time and annoys the pig"
-
I'm glad you decided not to send the email. Last week I wrote a very strongly worded letter to someone and then deleted it. I do that from time to time
-
Today I found out that the 5 kids I've spent the last year and a half trying to get to the US to be with their father (their mother died and they've been with an uncle in Kenya) will be arriving here on Tuesday. We are very happy about that. Their dad has had a 5 bedroom house rented since July waiting for them. They had to go through DNA testing and 4 or 5 consular interviews. It was just stupid. And there were months of waiting between interviews. the kids are from 14 years old down to 6 or 7 and their dad is a citizen now. I think it's sad it takes so darn long to reunite families
-
BUT they are going to be reunited. Thanks to phones and skype they have been in contact with their dad the whole time. I can't wait to meet them
-
I need to return to my cleaning-goofed off too much and today is my only day to do it. I don't have much light left so I had better hurry.

Since it's our anniversary, I have to say that this is the most amazing site on the internet and I"m not kidding. We are different from each other in many ways and we don't all agree on some things, but it's clear to me, at least, that everyone here truly cares about everyone else. I'm sorry that some have been offended or whatever and decided to leave. I still think of them and hope they decide to come back. Sort of like the extended family you never see anymore. Any way, this is a bit of a ramble, but thanks everyone for being my friends and family and thanks BK for creating a wonderful space where we all can be together
-
And thanks TCB for making me laugh every single day
-
I'm really tired.
-
But there are left over chicken wings in the kitchen that are calling to me.......
-
Ok, before I go...onward to page 7
-
Just a few more to go

La La La

We're playing Russian Christmas Music for our concert. I really like it

We're also playing some twee Christmas songs. Twee shall be my new favorite word

Reminds me of a bit in "Big River," where the man singing says "You could teach a hog to smoke a cigarette. It might take some time, but, hell, what's time to a hog!"
-
Twat does twee mean?
And it better not be some anti-gay slang. We can get married now, so I can legally kick your ass.
-
I, too, am so overtired it's not even funny. And yet I laughed and laughed and just when I thought I could laugh no more, I laughed again.

Elmore, "Eileen" is not available on BN.com. Someone gave me a gift card and I couldn't order it. Drat.

Twee doth mean "affectedly or excessively dainty, delicate, cute, or quaint."
Think of a commemorative thimble collection honoring "Star Trek: The Next Generation" with its own special lazy Susan display tower.

Night, all.

I am going to crash since I have to be up quite early in the morning.
Pleasant dreams everyone!

It was really cold at the football game tonight in Ojai.
Off to get something warm.
Good weekend everyone.

Couldn't get into any of the movies I had recorded...Chamber of Horrors...Lady With a Past...The Story of Temple Drake...
...so I popped in season 7 of Perry Mason and watched two episodes...and each episode had people in it that I knew personally...Jackie Loughery and Paul Lukather. That was fun!
-
Now I think it is bed time. Nighty, night, and hope all HHWers enjoyed their anniversary day!

Just wrote the press release for season two of Outside The Box and sent it off.

Almost time to write some notes.
-
Listening to a Kritzerland CD from two years ago - it will be the first soundtrack that we do an Encore Edition of - 1000 more units. It sold out so quickly and not a week goes by that I don't get five or ten e-mails asking if there's any way for us to do it again. That coupled with the fact that another label was nosing around the title and I don't love when someone benefits off work I paid for and did well - so I decided to do it.
-
Congrats, BK!
-
I'm watching the pilot episode to "Firefly." I just got the whole series on Blu-ray very cheaply. :D
