Well, you've read the notes, the notes let it go, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently letting it go because it needs some freedom.

And the word of the day is: NICTITATE!

Morning all.
That is all.

Since October 26th it has been hellish at work. Not Vixmom kind of hellish with long, long hours but hellish none the less. I can't wait for it all to be over next week. Part of it is related to what the Hurricane did to our schedule but there are other facets to the problems that I won't go into. Suffice it to say every working day (Monday through Friday) so far in November has been difficult to say the least. Although we did have a more than wonderful reunion with a friend from Nottingham on Wednesday afternoon but that took place outside of work. Of course, Wednesday afternoon was when we got hit with the Nor' Easter so walking to the Restaurant was a challenge. By the time we left the restaurant the fiercest part of the storm has stopped so it just meant walking through slush.
Any reunion with friends from England will brighten my day.

Twee is a perfect word to describe Danny Kaye. I feel about him the way JR feels about Gene Kelly.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!

Lovely story from DR CILLA LIZ last night....congratulations to you and your client!

I am working today...oh well. There is NO performance of the THE RED SHOES.....I mean....THE CRUCIBLE tonight, because today is the day of the BIG football game between DePauw and Wabash - which is a fierce longstanding rivalry....although most of the cast is not optimistic about a win for DePauw.
Last night we had ANOTHER sell out crowd.....158 people.....they had to send out for more chairs. The cast of THE CRUCIBLE from the local high school - they did the play last fall - was there....and they joined us onstage for a talkback. Of course most of them knew more about theatre and acting and the play than we did - or at least they wanted us to think they did - and a lot of their parents were in the audience, so they got a lot of questions. It was an interesting and entertaining ten minutes....unfortunately, it last 40 minutes.
I did get a couple of questions, and expressed my opinion a couple of times....another talk back next Friday if anyone wants to come.
-
There were some other nice pictures in the DePauw paper that I will scan for HHW this week.
Here is our final curtain call pose.....I am third from the left, standing beside my wife....a freshman girl who is the worst actress in the play, if not the world.

Off to work.....oh well. I shall return this evening.

BTW, I liked BK's post last night about reissuing a very much in demand out-of-print Kritzerland title. No idea what it's going to be, but:
I'll take it! :)
-
Hi all! I'm sorry I missed the celebration. I was on the phone with Thelma for a bit because we haven't been in contact for awhile.
The house is still having it's problems. They were going to come and pour the concrete for the laundry room then that got canceled because of the septic. They somehow thought I was connected to city sewage but I have a septic hole.
Anyway things have been up and down with work and all. Well things are about to change. Hopefully for the better but I can't post about it until after Tuesday when I'm sure. So stay tuned for the (hopefully) happy news!

TOD
Cheese. Oy! Where to begin?
First of all, right now I'm temporarily off all dairy because I'm on a standard 30-day course of Doxycycline thanks to a very friendly DEER TICK. Yes, my fellow DRs, after all of these years living around the deer, I finally attracted one of their lovely friends, and I'm on the antibiotic to pretty much ensure I never have a problem with Lyme -- the prognosis of which is as close to 100% as it gets, since we caught it and started the Doxy within 24 hours of the bite. And I've felt fine throughout, no symptoms at all.
This happened the morning after "Sandy". One of the many things I'm still behind in posting about with the disruptions of the past two weeks.
But I digress...
-
Looking forward to the potentially very happy news, DR Danise.
P.S. -- Please try to keep your hurricanes down south where they belong, okay? :)
-
Good morning, all.
Work vibes for DRs Ben, Danise, Vixmom and all of us.
Anti-Lyme vibes for DR ChasSmith. Hope that antibiotic does its job.
Great news, JRand. Are they sending schools in to see the show? I remember we had to read that play for high school one year.
-
TOD:
I love cheese of any shape and form, but I particularly prefer discovering new cheeses, especially those made in interesting ways, such as the cheeses of Asturias, Spain, which are wrapped in the likes of fig leaves and then left to ripen in salty caves that face the sea or the various sheep, goat and cow cheeses of Portugal. Each town has its own and it was fun driving through the countryside and tasting the various cheeses.
I only buy those if I'm going someplace to share them, however. So, my fridge generally has the Costco varieties in it, including the Jarlsburg and a Parmesan or Pecorino Romno.
ChasSmith, if you are off dairy, could you still have goat or sheep milk cheeses? Or is it the mold involved that makes them off limits?
-
No idea, DR John G. I think the basic layman's understanding is that dairy products cling to this particular antibiotic in a way that prevents it from doing its good work. As a person who takes cheese on everything, I'm finding it especially difficult to avoid -- only from a habit standpoint. The simple act of ordering a hamburger instead of a cheeseburger takes a surprising mental effort! I don't mind doing without for a while, it's just a challenge to remember at all times.
-
Vibes to DR Chas for quick recovery.
Speaking of medical: Have any people had any reactions to this year's flu shot that are unusual?
Sounds like for some, the prevention is worse than what they're curing.
-
Thanks, DR FJL!
I've never had reactions to flu shots. The one thing I noticed about this one is that the arm was slightly but noticeably more sore for a day or two.
-
Sorry I missed HHW's birthday!
So glad to have heard and gotten to vote in the categories where I knew the work. congrats to BK!

Saturday morning greetings! Not much to say today, except "Go, Blue!" and "Go, Bearcats!" Michigan plays Northwestern and Cincinnati plays Temple, both at noon, on different networks.
-
Good morning, all! I got home late and slept in this morning. Around 9 or so this morning, I decided I was coing down with a cold and decided to sleep longer. I hope I am not, bumy freind Fionnuala is definitely sick; she told me her cold came on as soon as the Wexford Opera season, where she's concert mistress, ended last week.
So, I'm about two hours behind my proposed schedule this morning. My day s open until 5pm today, when I meet Jonathan for dinner and see his show at Lincoln Center, so I think I'll do the laundry that I had meant to do two hours ago.
Last night, Finnoula, Lynda, their friend Ger, and I had dinner at the apartment of Molly on East 97th Street. Molly is an Irish retired friend of Fionnuala wh worked for Elizabeth Arden. She prepared a very simple but wonderful dinner of zucchini, roast pork, boiled potatoes, and a nut cake with fresh fruit. It wasavery Irish evening, and I had a really good time.
More coffee and then it's time for the laundry!
-
Oy! I hate colds. Chicken soup VIBES for DR Elmore.
-
With a little splash of Irish whiskey in it to ward off the chill.
-
It's Saturday. And it's cold (for us-- especially lately). Not as rainy as it's supposed to be, but at least it feels like some season other than summer.
-
Good morning.

From DR Cilla:
I was going to write a catchy Anniversary poem, but I kept starting out with
Happy Anniversary to Us...we live in a bus.... a tad too twee for me so i stopped
Funny!! :)

DR George enjoy FIREFLY. I can't remember if you watched the show when it was on tv.

Speaking of medical: Have any people had any reactions to this year's flu shot that are unusual?

Nope.
I can't take the live virus shot without getting extremely ill. Fortunately I don't have to worry about that anymore.
-
Feel better vibes for DR elmore!
-
Too many good things came in from the library all at once. Got the first season of "Homeland" as well as the original "Cat People" and a vampire flick that's supposed to be really scary, "Let the Right One In."

Foie gras sale today. I spent too much money. Even on sale, it's expensive.

No reaction from me, just a bit warm at the injection site for a day or so. I haven't had the flu since I started getting the shots, I get one every year

What I found was overly sweet, cheesy or something like that

Thanks to all who commented. We've actually helped a lot of people, but this family has gone through so much to be able to be together. I guess it's because they are Somali, but still. I mean my client works at an ice cream factory, how much more American can you get, lol

Today is supposed to be warm but the cold is coming sometime later today with thunderstorms etc. So this morning I got an early start on my yard work. Got the front by the road raked and put out a lot of grass seed. The drought killed a lot of the yard, but this part died before the drought got really bad. Then I hauled in three bags of softener salt (40# each) and raked out the leaves in the storm sewer drains in the street. Now I'm resting. I wanted to put up plastic in the windows today, but it's already a bit windy and that makes it a pain in the butt, so I'll just clean out the eaves on the garage and call the outside work done.
-
Vibes to all who need them ~~~~~~

It's a beautiful day in Manhattan. It's in the 50s and tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 60s! How long will this glorious weather last? I hope it lasts long enough for the unload of our annual volunteer work on November 30th.
I have been in and out all day since about 9am and I have to go out again because I need socks. I will go to Marshall's and/or TJ Maxx in the Bed Bath and Beyond Complex to see what they have. The problem is (which I've talked about many times) I have small feet (size 6) and it's hard to find shoes and socks. That's why I hate shopping so much. It's hard to find anything that fits!!! But, there are other people who have much worse problems than finding socks that fit so I'll shut up.
I'm looking forward to the days off for Thanksgiving. My office closes early and because I go in early I will leave even earlier (around 11:30am). I will do nothing but eat, sleep and see friends on Long Island.
-
Lovely photo, Jane.
Congrats, Cillaliz.

Too many good things came in from the library all at once. Got the first season of "Homeland" as well as the original "Cat People" and a vampire flick that's supposed to be really scary, "Let the Right One In."
Is ths the original Swedish film, which is quite wonderful, or the American remake I could not get through? While I liked the film, I found the book much better.
And the laundry is finished.
-
I had the flu shot on Wednesday. The only reaction I had was that my arm hurt and I was a bit under the weather for a day or two.

The original Swedish movie. But it will have to wait until after "Homeland," which got me hooked in the first few minutes.

Page three pancake dance!

I'll take some dancing pancakes.
-
Well, the weather sure changed. It is now grey and cloudy in Manhattan. It may rain. Oh, well.
-
Outside of Manhattan Marshall's and TJ Maxx may be OK but the stores here in the city are for s*** I don't need to go to them again. I will wait until we are on Long Island for Thanksgiving and go to Target for socks. I'm not going up to 116th Street and FDR to the only Target in Manhattan. It's not worth the subway way and 10 minute walk.

I'm up after a great night's beauty sleep - about ten hours. I got up at eleven and read e-mails, one of which was from the person to whom I was going to send the e-mail. She'd read what she considered to be a "venomous" series of posts directed at her on Facebook. No. I did what I did hear and simply asked if I should or should not send an e-mail - no names, no details. And not one thing in the post or any of its responses that could ever be considered a country mile within "venomous." When I'm venomous there's really no mistaking it. I was told that I didn't have the "entire picture." Well, duh. When no one tells you what the entire picture is then how can you have an entire picture. The fact is there are health issues that are in play, and for that I am truly sorry, but this isn't about that. This is about simple courtesy. And I think the point of the e-mail sent to me was to guilt trip me. So, I responded in a very even-keeled way - probably too long, but when have I ever not been? And I tried to end it on a conciliatory note saying that the best thing that could possibly happen is if we could ALL make an effort to get past this and back to being friends or friendly. There was a lot of past tense in the e-mail, and I'm afraid (reading between the lines) that their poor daughter has been given anything BUT the entire picture and probably been given a very one-sided reading of the events since past June. That's a shame, but I guess it's to be expected. I suggested they read the entirety of my e-mail to her. They won't, of course. I was not mean or negative about anything - I just said factual information in a very calm and nice way. I read it through about five times before pressing "send." I doubt I'll get a response, from what I've been told. She never once acknowledges her part in any of this, which I just find odd. I was actually kind of hoping NOT to hear anything after I'd made the decision yesterday, but alas. And there was no way not to respond to it, because I'm being made to feel like I'm some kind of villain in all this, and that I am not. I am the opposite of that as regards these folks.
-

I only have two books out right now. I had just finished the first one when the second one came in. I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent timing.

Thanks you.

I was confused at first and then realized she meant on your FB page, not that you had posted on her page. You didn't hide that from her then-groan. It was almost as good as sending her the email.
-
One thing about working for the county, you get the flu shot for free. We got ours back in late September.
I didn't notice any real side effects. A sore arm and I noticed I felt like I was starting to come down with the flu but it never went into full blown flu. That happens every year.
I do have some news I can share. I got a call from Sergio (the contractor) and he said Lowes will be coming out to the house on Monday and will measure the kitchen! I don't know what will come of that--my choices as to what I want-- but I'm hopeful!
I don't know if you all knew that I was told that Lowes was out of the picture for awhile there. I mentioned it when I went to my local store and was told I should contact customer care. I did and told them the entire story. Next thing I knew corporate was involved and they really do want to help. I don't think telling the AC part hurt.
This could be the BEST holiday season I've had in a very, very, very (that's 3 very's) long time. ;)
-
Good for corporate Lowe's!!!
VIBES THEY GET THE KITCHEN DONE FOR YOU!!!!
-
Bruce I'm sorry that just as you reached the "letting" go stage you received the email.

I didn't realize that you were going to post the "should i send the email question" on facebook where she is your friend.
I think the postings you wrote here made it pretty clear who/what you were referring to. Although without specifically saying anything too bad.
So basically you ended up sending her a nicer version of the email as your response?
I feel bad that you were helping her daughter so much and now that is over.
-
Good news DR Danise. Hope it all works out!
-
Bruce I'm sorry that just as you reached the "letting" go stage you received the email.
She's responded to my response - again, it's all about them and I understand that. I've responded again, and the only response she can make to that response (which was, again, very even-keeled and nice and even amusing) is to say let's do just put this away and move on, or let's forget all this crap and get back to our nice friendship. I left her no wiggle room really because those really are the two options. If it were the latter, I have no problem getting right back on track because that's the kind of person I am. I'd much rather accentuate the positive, frankly.
-
Well stated DR Jennifer.
-
Bruce vibes you can return to the happy relationship you used to have, or at the least to a friendly one.
-
Hard to know. I sense they are very obstinate people - I am the opposite. If I were them (which I'm not) I would jump at the chance because they above all don't need negativity in the air they breathe. I don't know that it can ever quite go back to what it was, but it would be nice to have it be something that was positive and felt good.
-
Oh man. Hope this works out decently. Maybe this incident brings it to the head it needed to get to. VIBES for good results.
-
I also wanted to mention that today was my Mom's birthday. It was also the 3rd year since I moved back into the house. I don't count it because the house was incomplete at the time--everything was done to make it livable except a hot water heater. That was installed on November 11th so that is the "official" day I was back in my house after being out of it since the January before.
-
Linda Purl just turned up in an episode of "Homeland." Great acting, fine writing.
-
BK, vibes that the best resolution comes about.
-
Had a hankering for a Portuguese wafer made with lemon zest and oil-cured olives. It's both sweet and salty, and I love them. So, they're baking right now.
-
Vibes to Danise that this time the house remodel will continue without any more problems~~~~~~
-
Vibes to BK for a good resolution to the situation

Well, the wind calmed to a dead calm so I decided to start doing the plastic on the windows. I got the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room done. They are the north side main floor windows so I'm really glad I got them done. I also climbed up on the roof of the garage and got the eaves I could reach cleaned out. Whew! Then the best part of such a day...the shower! As I was finishing up and putting things away the clouds started rolling in. 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms.
-
I still have to put plastic on the west window which is next to where I sit most of the time, but i'm sure we'll get another nice day before the weather changes for the winter. At least I'm nearly done with my outside work to prep for winter
-
My shoulder is a bit sore, but considering all I did today, it's doing quite well.
-
Oh let's get off this page

Cheese. Hmmm. I love the cheese from Pasture Pride Cheese factory in Cashton, WI http://www.pasturepridecheese.com/index.asp (http://www.pasturepridecheese.com/index.asp)
I still have a big chunk of muenster from the last trip- Edith told me it's the same cheese used in quesadillas in Mexico.
I love it in grilled cheese sandwiches.
I like lots of cheese but right now this is my favorite

I now have frozen, individually shaped, oatmeal cookie dough all ready to pop in the oven and bake on Tuesday.
Earlier why I was mixing the batter I said to Keith that sometimes I wish it was my left shoulder that broke & not my right. There are just somethings I have to do with my right arm, such as mixing cookie batter.
I am pleased to say I managed to do it without Keith's help.

Congrats on the sell-out and continued broken leg vibes!
-
There were some other nice pictures in the DePauw paper that I will scan for HHW this week.
Here is our final curtain call pose.....I am third from the left, standing beside my wife....a freshman girl who is the worst actress in the play, if not the world.

I'm glad you enjoyed your second day of judging. Sleep well.

Good morning.

Thanks.

Too many good things came in from the library all at once. Got the first season of "Homeland" as well as the original "Cat People" and a vampire flick that's supposed to be really scary, "Let the Right One In."
Is that the Swedish film I have heard so much about?
I think so. But it may have to wait a day or three until I get through "Homeland." New addiction.

I wanted to put up plastic in the windows today, but it's already a bit windy and that makes it a pain in the butt, so I'll just clean out the eaves on the garage and call the outside work done.
you know we have some roof shingles what need replacing , a fence to repair and siding to put back on , wanna stop by next weekend? The keys'll be in the mailbox
I would love to, but I don't think you'd be happy with the results. I'm not very good at the actual construction work
-
Well, the wind calmed to a dead calm so I decided to start doing the plastic on the windows.
Just in time!! I'm always amazed at what you do. DR Danise seems to be handy around the house as well, just not enough to build a new one ;)
Thanks. I knew when I bought an old house to live alone in I would be doinga lot of work myself. I really hate some of it and love some of it, but it all has to be done, so I just do it
-
We're having thunderstorms. Yeah!!! It's raining on my grass seed.
-
Watching one of the most terrifying movies I've ever seen - The Girl - courtesy of Jrand. Horrifyingly bad. The home grown DVD froze about fifty minutes in - maybe that's a sign, but I'll try to slog through on another player.
-
Bruce I don't know how you could suffer the full 50 minutes. I would take that as an omen and stop watching ;D
-
'night

Yeah!

I am home from the Lincoln Center White Light Festival presentation of Ireland's Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre in their latest production, RIAN, for eight dancers and five musicians playing harp, piano, harpsichord, penny whistle, concertina, pipes, mandolin, violin, and a variety of percussion. It was quite interesting and some of it quite dazzling.
-
just watched Love Actually. I really love that movie.
-
Time to practice the flute a little. Night
-
I finished The Girl - and will have puhlenty to say about it in the notes.
-
And coincidentally I just finished MARNIE -- showed it to someone who had never seen it. Lots of fun. This was still the DVD, which looked fantastic. (I believe it's one of the several screwed up in the Blu-ray transfer?)

Now Ben has used the "S" word!
-
It's a beautiful day in Manhattan.
When you find something you like buy a couple of extra pairs. I would think you could find socks on line.
And if you are a member of Amazon Prime, you can get all of that stuff sent to you with no shipping charges. Prime has been a real Godsend to me, since I can't get out and shop on my own.
-
I got up at eleven and read e-mails, one of which was from the person to whom I was going to send the e-mail. She'd read what she considered to be a "venomous" series of posts directed at her on Facebook.
I was confused at first and then realized she meant on your FB page, not that you had posted on her page. You didn't hide that from her then-groan. It was almost as good as sending her the email.
I didn't know you could hide posts from people on Facebook. I can think of a few thousand political posts I would have liked to have hidden from me!

This could be the BEST holiday season I've had in a very, very, very (that's 3 very's) long time. ;)
Now that could be the answer to a great many of my prayers!
-
Had a hankering for a Portuguese wafer made with lemon zest and oil-cured olives. It's both sweet and salty, and I love them. So, they're baking right now.
What a coincidence! I was just hankering for a Portuguese thingie myself.

Greetings from the west side of Lima, OH! We just had dinner with the Bishop and his wife and the family of the baby who will be baptized tomorrow. The guest of honor slept through the entire meal.
What a good baby.
Oohhhh, the baby. I thought she meant Richard.

I'll be meeting Dear Reader Laura for pancakes at Du-Par's early tomorrow morning.
-
Had a cobb salad and a bagel earlier and am now kind of hungry. Perhaps a Popeye's chicken breast - I could do one of those without doing any damage at all.
-
Or maybe I'll just get some funky foods at Gelson's. It was really quite chilly today. When I first went to Jerry's Deli at 1:45 there was not a single booth or table available - ridiculous. I came back an hour later and got a not-wonderful booth. I asked why when there's NEVER anyone in this place on a Saturday at that time was it jammed up - the reply? "When it's cold out everyone comes and has soup." The shropshire sheep of Studio City never cease to amaze. I could have probably gone directly to Hugo's and gotten right in, since there's no soup there.

BJ's has their own line of cheeses and one of them is this mild cheddar bar with blueberries in - it is their "artisian " line of cheeses - I bought it on a lark and it was really good!!

I don't know a great deal about cheese. Mild cheddar and Pepper Jack are about the only cheeses that I buy for myself. However, I will put a word in for some great cheese made by Washington State University -- Cougar Gold.

Fortunately, no. I went to work for a few hours and then went to my parents' house and played some Scrabble. I lost...as usual.

Now, I'm just watching TV.

Well, my work here is done.

TOD:
I love cheese... I like American, Provolone or Swiss for sandwiches and melts. I love chedder, Pepper jack, Muenster, Gouda, and Colby for snacking on. I have a fondness of putting shredded cheddar, colby Jack or mozzerella on many things.
I love brie on toast...

Cheese.

~~~FEEL BETTER VIBES FOR LARRY AND FIONNUALA/FINNOULA!!~~~
DR George enjoy FIREFLY. I can't remember if you watched the show when it was on tv.
No, I didn't. This is the first time that I'm watching any of it, even though I actually bought the TV series AND the movie on DVD, when they first came out...and now I got them on Blu-ray. ::)
But the Blu-rays were very inexpensive. :)
