Well, you've read the notes, the notes questioned me an answer, and now it is time for you to post until the questioned cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DISBOSOM!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good Morning also! And also, that is all.
-
But it IS Wednesday.
-
Good morning, all.
Running late and on five hours of sleep. Not a good combination. Had a long day yesterday and today is looking to be just as long. Hope to catch up with postings later.
Until then, happy hump day to all! And take your vibes as directed.
-
Good morning.
;D
-
I'm really tired. Can't seem to get enough sleep. Too many little things to do, maintance things all the time that consume all my time.
That is all.
:)
-
Off to work. Another 17 hr day before I get home.
It's clear and cold outside. Happy Wednesday.
;D
-
Really good vibes for everyone.
;)
-
Good morning, all
In the middle of the night I started waking and tossing and turning, but finally got comfortable and finished the night with a couple of hours rest and (mostly) sleep that made up for it pretty nicely.
Breakfast: leftover slice of Stew Leonard's pumpkin pie and coffee.

That was a whole lotta notes on LOST HORIZON. Might very well be one of the best summations we're likely to read on this film.
I wish I could remember why I didn't go to it when it opened. What kept me away in March 1973? I have no idea now. My first memory of seeing any part of it was on some horrible local TV channel in Cincinnati while on a visit to my folks. It was commercial-interrupted and pan-and-scanned to death, and the first musical number to appear after we tuned to the channel was, I kid you not, Question Me an Answer. I sat there, horrified, but unable to look away.
Years later, with a borrowed laserdisc (the good one), I watched it and was somewhat amused, but it wasn't until a couple of years ago when we had a good clear DVD, and I had a good screen to watch it on, that it finally made some sense and started becoming -- dare I say it? -- "lovable". Now I could appreciate the good in what I was seeing, and it even seemed I had "grown into" the music -- most of the songs, and the score itself, were quite lovely. Like MR BK says, it is a bad film rife with bad decisions. But it is eye and ear candy of a fairly high order which can reward one when taken in the right dose at the right time. And even so, I know that simply won't work for a lot of people. But I'm glad it finally did for me, because the film can finally claim its rightful place on the List of Guilty Pleasures.
-
As I recall it, I grudgingly went to see THE BLUE LAGOON on a second-run showing. I got my three bucks worth and never looked back. Sight unseen since, I'm nevertheless in for Mr. Redman's release of yet more eye candy. It'll be fun.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! I'll be E & T most of the day, tending to my Mother and having lunch with my friend Becky. Looks like a cold, brilliantly sunny, day here in SW Ohio.
-
Travel vibes to DR Doug R!
-
Off for the day - bye for now!
-
Good morning from Montreal.
My last trip for this year and probably won't be back until Passover 2013.
The weather is "crisp" and no snow planned while I'm here.
-
Good morning. To quote DR Elmore, I slept poorly last night. Up and down a lot etc. It's going to be a long day I predict.
-
Running late and on five hours of sleep. Not a good combination. Had a long day yesterday and today is looking to be just as long.
I know the misery. Been there and done that too many times. Vibes you come through it unscathed, DR John G.
-
And the word of the day is: DISBOSOM!
I think this word can only be said out loud by Miss Jayne Mansfield with her patented squeal and giggle.

It sounds to me like something Mrs. Slocombe (Mollie Sugden in "Are You Being Served?") might say to a young woman in the dressing rooms if said young woman were trying to fill out the front of a new dress that didn't quite fit.
Mrs. S.: "My dear, I don't think this is quite right for you. Kindly disbosom yourself and let us try another frock."

And The Song Of The Day Is: I'M CONFESSIN' (THAT I LOVE YOU)
-
Today is Wednesday.
It is my first workday of the week.
I took yesterday off to accommodate a four-day weekend.
This was in preparation for my being off all of next week. Nine consecutive days.
And that is the final rehearsal for the month I'm taking off two weeks later.
I takes effort to get ready for a month off, you know.
-
I recall seeing LOST HORIZON someplace...sometime....
But, like every other disappointing movie I've seen in my life, I quickly forget it and, truthfully, remember very little about it.
-
Well DR DRUXY - The Girl is on its way to you....you may experience this again.
-
DR JRand and DR Ron Pulliam, you both made me laugh this morning, quite heartily!
-
Cilliliz, yes it is quite fun doing the searching, isn't it! Sometimes I get addicted, searching to find out whatever became of the most miniscule bit player in a movie or TV show. Sometimes I just have to know!
-
For your viewing pleasure...
Sorry for out-of-focus shot, and that I didn't take more.

Hope these photo sizes work okay for everyone. I also have a few of Nick Redman and company which I'll post as soon as I get them sized.
-
In the meantime, let's get off this blasted first page.
-
PAGE TWO.
-
Nice photo DR CHAS SMITH.....what is MR BK holding in his hand?
-
Looks like the program book for "Son of Monsterpalooza", and, I believe, the test discs for BONJOUR TRISTESSE and THE RAINS OF RANCHIPUR which we had just sampled at the HTF Twilight Time event.
-
Good morning, all! I debated staying in bed all day, and around 11am I decided to get out of bed, bathe and dress. Now that I am moving, I'll have some eggs and take my meds, work on the computer for a bit, and see what fresh hell arrives.
Speaking of debating, I'm still debating the purchase of a blu-ray non-region DVD player. I'm also debating Thanksgiving - I wsh I'd booked a ticket for Ohio when I got back from Dublin - since I find I have no plans this year.
-
Well DR DRUXY - The Girl is on its way to you....you may experience this again.
Thank you.
Actually, the trade reviews were pretty good; better than HITCHCOCK, so you never know.
;)

We look like a couple of old farts.

BK,
We should do THE SUNSHINE BOYS together.

DR JRand and DR Ron Pulliam, you both made me laugh this morning, quite heartily!

More old farts to follow.

That was a nice evening. Frankly, I wish we'd had more of those through the week, and less of other stuff which isn't nearly so memorable.
-
I can't even LOOK at these awful photos of me. Except the one of me and Nick. I must NEVER be photographed in profile, at least until thirty pounds is shed.
-
Had an interesting telephonic meeting - lots to ponder and I'll probably solicit advice from you dear readers - having to do with Outside the Box.
-
Then I walked to the bank, and now I'm here and answering e-mails and then the singer and the pianist will arrive at eleven and I've already decided we're eating then.
-
Interesting reviews of the "Drood" revival. I have always loved the show, which I saw in previews, but there had been some critical backlash within the last few years. Glad these largely wonderful pieces have gone back to the opinion that the show is as much fun as ever.
-
Was LOST HORIZON ever shown on commercial television? I don't recall ever seeing it televised.
-
Very nice pics, DR ChasSmith!
And BK, don't be so hard on yourself, you look quite nice in those photos! All of them!
-
I have never seen THE LOST HORIZON....but I love all of the dances from FLOWER DRUM SONG.
So, my ask BK question is: which dances in FLOWER DRUM SONG did you think were not good (as per the BK notes) ?
-
Interesting reviews of the "Drood" revival. I have always loved the show, which I saw in previews, but there had been some critical backlash within the last few years. Glad these largely wonderful pieces have gone back to the opinion that the show is as much fun as ever.
What strikes me about this revival is that, for a change, director Scott Ellis allowed the material to do it's work and didn't layer the production with some ill-fitting "vision", resulting in a successful show.
-
I have never been a fan of LOST HORIZON, starting with the original novel by Hilton. I can think of nothing more awful than puttering around in a garden of sublime peace cultivating my navel ad nauseam and lving beyond a reasonable life span. I would have been the brother wanting to escape to civilization with all its warts and problems.
-
I don't like Grant Avenue or I Enjoy Being a Girl - the Love, Look Away ballet is cheesy but okay, and Sunday is fine. Then there are his "dances" in Finian's Rainbow, most of which Coppola tossed out and told his cast to just improvise.
-
Yes, I'm afraid I would perish in Shangri-La as well. I seemingly need the teeming city with all its horrors.
-
Was LOST HORIZON ever shown on commercial television? I don't recall ever seeing it televised.
Yes. I saw it on NBC back when I lived in Louisville. I don't think the movie lasted long enough at the theaters back then for me to catch it.

Yeah, thankfully he saw no need to improve the show with his vision.
Elmore's favorite, S. Suskin, managed to mangle one of the song titles, calling it "Nightfall" instead of "Moonfall."
-
I love the soundtrack for "Finian's Rainbow," but watching the movie can hurt the eyes, and it's a combination of the dancing and the then-novel way of taking a dance number and cutting it up into too many takes. The editor, working at Coppola's direction, no doubt, deserves as much credit for the movie's inability to work as the choreographer does. Still, I watch it about once a year or so, if only to listen to Petula Clark, Fred Astaire and Don Francks, or whatever his name is, sing a few of those songs. It was my favorite recording of the score until the recent Broadway revival that Elmore worked on.
-
Oh.....okay DR CHAS SMITH - that makes since.
-
Thanks for sharing the photos, ChasSmith.
-
One more.

Return travel vibes for DR DOUG R
-
DR DRUXY do you have links to those reviews.....I would be interested in seeing what they LIKED about the production.....maybe I missed something.
-
I love Capra's "Lost Horizon". I, too, think a place of peace and harmony would be horrific longterm. It's sort of like the vision of heaven I was raised to believe in...a place where I'd be on my knees worshipping God for eternity. Nothing else. Just that.
I've never been able to sort out why that would be "heaven".

Mr Suskin is a good writer and theatre critic. I think he needs to broaden his narrow musical perspective.

Oy! DR ELMORE, I somehow missed that you had Finian's Rainbow to your credit. I've always been sorry I didn't get to that production.
-

Aren't they on the imdb?
-
Oh could be, I shall look ... thanks. I keep forgetting IMDB as a source for things other than CREDITS.

It's a little after 1:00pm PST and my eyes are still open

And the word of the day is: DISBOSOM!
Rest your head here on disbosom.

I have both CD releases of the original cast album AND the vinyl album, and I've seen it live twice here in Olympia. I love this show! :D

Return travel vibes for DR DOUG R
Thank you DR Jrand 61 and DR Ginny. It was touch and go but I'm back home. Many flights were cancelled from Spain and other countries due to public service worker strikes. Saw strikers battling with police in the center of Madrid. My plane was only delayed an hour and that was because the wheel was found to be damaged. Fortunately Spanish air traffic controllers did not join in the strike despite having gone on strike before, even though it's illegal for them to strike.

Doughnuts. That is all.
-
Back on my diet shakes after a few days of eating leftover veggies & sweet n spicy peanut sauce.
Mixing it up to be a cherry limeade flavor.
-
Still on Page 3?
Oh, no no no. Not again!
-
I doubt I will get us to Page 3.
-
I'll make an effort.
-
My afternoon was very quiet.
-
And the word of the day is: DISBOSOM!
you bedda keep dosehands off disbosom
-
Except for a phone call from Jerome Moross' daughter Susanna.
-
Good morning, all.
Running late and on five hours of sleep.
welcome to vixmomworld

2013 is the Moross centenary.

I did step out to pay my Verizon bill.
-
And now I am in for the evening.
-
Maybe I will move us to Page 4.
-
The next should do it?
-
Page 4!!!!
My work is done.
-
Doughnuts. That is all.
I'm with you, bub. In fact, the East Coast Singer brought over two little mini donut things and I ate them all up.
-
Page four? Four pages?
-
Oy! DR ELMORE, I somehow missed that you had Finian's Rainbow to your credit. I've always been sorry I didn't get to that production.
It was wonderful
-
Had a Cobb salad, and whilst at lunch I created all the patter for the show. Then we came back and rehearsed straight through, I flipped two songs, and it's all going to work very well. I also asked them to add one up-tempos song (Let It Snow) - not on the album, but the show really needs it. Lanny already figured out the feel and we'll add it to the mix tomorrow night.
-
I have to take the Vixter out to buy boots

BBL
-
It's always interesting having to literally create a show in one day. Intense, but sort of exhilarating, and doable because of my sense of structure, which is pretty strong.
-
I have to take the Vixter out to buy boots
These boots are made for walkin'
-
I did step out to pay my Verizon bill.
I pay that on-line, but at lunch today, I paid my Tumwater utilities bill...water/sewer.
Just had to share.

And I just ordered Rocky: The Musical (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009EPBCZO?ie=UTF8&tag=castalborg-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B009EPBCZO), the world premiere cast recording (my designation)...it's from Germany and in German!

So here is the question me an answer of the day: The telephonic meeting this morning was with the owner of Broadway World. He contacted me and we discussed making Outside the Box a Broadway World exclusive, i.e. it would not be on You Tube, but exclusively available for viewing on B'way World. They do one other web series that way and it's paid off for that show - they usually get about 25,000 viewers per episode. So, I have to make this decision. There are several factors at play: IF we were to do it, do we start in the middle of season two, or do we wait until season two is done and then they would promote and run the entirety of season one and two and then they'd have the exclusive on season three and onward. The way it works is they promote us, we're on their home page permanently, we got lots of front page releases and we provide content and interviews for our down weeks so we're always doing something for the show. Part of me likes You Tube and the fact that you can tag the videos in any number of interesting ways, but the fact is our most popular episode has under 8,000 views, while all the others are under 3,000 so I'm not sure tagging or being on You Tube is meaningful at all. I'd be able to link to B'way World from our channel page, so our channel subscribers would know where to go.
So, what do you think? Do it? Not do it? Upsides? Downsides? Start in the middle of season two so we can actually get some viewers or wait until season three, which we would definitely have ready to go in April of 2013.
-
Go for the audience. You can always post links on FB to the Broadway World episode. Start with Episodes 1 and 2.
-
Sounds like a winner to me.
Disclaimer: I know nothing about promoting/marketing anything.
But it sure sounds good! :)
-
It's too bad it has to be exclusively on broadwayworld. I like youtube and how it works. But if it will get more viewers ...
-
I just went to broadway world to see the site and how they do videos. What is the other web series they do? It wasn't clear from just going to the site.
Wow, there homepage is busy. So much going on. I did watch a few videos and they seem to have commercials at the beginning which i really dislike. But if it will get you the viewers it is worth considering.
-
BK, is there any kind of financial benefit to a BW exclusive?
-

I am all for it, BK! Couldn't they begin with Season 1 until you have more of Season 2 on tape? If it goes well, you might have any number of people wanting to appear in Season 3.
Beyond that, though, I have no further thoughts.
-
Hello, everyone.
I have been trying to catch up on things. Making progress, but still behind on many things.
-
Sorry to read about your loss, DR Druxy.
-
Jane, your yard is beautiful! Who is that on the right, sitting on the ledge?
-
Bruce, I think the Broadway World thing makes a lot of sense. I also think that they should start with season 1, and not mid-season. Could they put up what's already on YouTube, then make it an exclusive at some point in season2?
-
BTW, I watched Outside the Box (the Exorcist) twice and could NOT get that tune out of my head!! A very catchy tune!
-

what he said ---
Can you remove your previous videos from You Tube and start from the very beginning? (A very good place to start)
-
Here's what we're thinking: If I decide yay we would make an immediate press release announcement, probably on Sunday night (Monday is their biggest traffic day) and they would immediately air all of season one and the first episode of season two. We'd begin the exclusive with episode two. I'm just not that interested in getting less than 800 views for this on You Tube. It's pathetic. Part of the problem is Facebook - any views by people who watch it there rather than clicking through don't count. Then again, I really don't think that many on Facebook are watching. I have close to 3000 "friends" and I'd guess maybe twenty of them have seen it. That, too, is pathetic. It's because many of the people there are so full of only themselves they never look at anything that doesn't involve them. I could name any number of people I've given a HUGE amount of work to who never bother with my stuff, never "like" it, never comment. Either our posts are falling off their news feeds too quickly or it's just not about them so why bother. With Broadway World, you're starting with a LOT of traffic. That's not to say we'll get all those people, but at least we'll have a real PRESENCE there every day, every week and we'll have to do better than we're doing on You Tube. The most pathetic, unfunny tripe on You Tube sometimes gets hundreds of thousands of hits - it's an enigma. Maybe I'm just too dumb to understand how it all works but B'way World isn't dumb in terms of promotion. The ONLY way our video would have a commercial is if they find a sponsor who loves our show - and if that happens, there's actual money paid to us, so that's okay by me, and I think the commercials can be skipped if I'm remembering correctly - or maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else. Anyway, I'm leaning towards saying yes tomorrow.
-
We wouldn't have to remove the videos - no one is really watching season one anymore. I'd rather do this sooner than later so that episodes one and two of season two can really get maximum play. They will, believe me, make a very big deal out of getting the series. It's tricky - I don't like change.
-
I'll be leaving for the rehearsal in about forty minutes.
-

Oh Jeanne agrees with me!
or I suppose I agree with her, since her post appeared before mine
but I posted before I read hers...
what comes first the chicken or the egg?

This sounds good to me

I can't even LOOK at these awful photos of me. Except the one of me and Nick. I must NEVER be photographed in profile, at least until thirty pounds is shed.
I thought you looked great.
-
Was LOST HORIZON ever shown on commercial television? I don't recall ever seeing it televised.
How dumb do you think those network presidents are?
-
I love Capra's "Lost Horizon". I, too, think a place of peace and harmony would be horrific longterm. It's sort of like the vision of heaven I was raised to believe in...a place where I'd be on my knees worshipping God for eternity. Nothing else. Just that.
I've never been able to sort out why that would be "heaven".
That is an interesting view of heaven, DR Ron. You aren't by any chance Southern Baptist?
-
Had a Cobb salad, and whilst at lunch I created all the patter for the show. Then we came back and rehearsed straight through, I flipped two songs, and it's all going to work very well. I also asked them to add one up-tempos song (Let It Snow) - not on the album, but the show really needs it. Lanny already figured out the feel and we'll add it to the mix tomorrow night.
BK, I love me a good Cobb Salad, but every day? Is this the new Cobb Diet?

And I just ordered Rocky: The Musical (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009EPBCZO?ie=UTF8&tag=castalborg-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B009EPBCZO), the world premiere cast recording (my designation)...it's from Germany and in German!
My sympathies!

I'm a poster child for not liking change. I get that, big time.
But I don't think any real, concrete negatives have been posted here yet. Are there any?

Part of me likes You Tube and the fact that you can tag the videos in any number of interesting ways, but the fact is our most popular episode has under 8,000 , views, while all the others are under 3,000 so I'm not sure tagging or being on You Tube is meaningful at all.
If you ask me, oh I guess you did, I would go with Broadway World. These episodes are classics, and they deserve to be seen by a wider audience. Don't wait for Season Three, start as soon as possible.

Cilliliz, yes it is quite fun doing the searching, isn't it! Sometimes I get addicted, searching to find out whatever became of the most miniscule bit player in a movie or TV show. Sometimes I just have to know!
Yes, I really enjoy it. It's a challenge to see what I can find. When I have an expert in a trial I search the web for things they have written and said in the past on the subject. When I have witnesses I'll see what i can find about them on the web. It's amazing what people will say on Facebook or my space. I do enjoy the search

Interesting reviews of the "Drood" revival. I have always loved the show, which I saw in previews, but there had been some critical backlash within the last few years. Glad these largely wonderful pieces have gone back to the opinion that the show is as much fun as ever.
I was very happy to read them. I'm really pleased for Rupert.

I vote go with Broadwayworld.

Kevin left today before I could ask him if he had booked a flight to San Diego.

Going by just my gut instinct, I think you're better off staying with YouTube.
People know YouTube. They are not going to have to be directed to another site and deal with their promotions or whatever.
If you were being offered some $ or something beyond promotion, it might be worth considering, but based on what you've said the deal is, why give away exclusivity?
However, I guess I'm pretty much alone with this position.
-
I just looked at the Broadway World site.
Frankly, I think it's too "busy". You could easily get lost.

I have always loved the Theme from LOST HORIZON. In fact the opening credits were my favorite part of the whole movie. I was horrified when I saw the film in a theater when it was first released. In the last few years I have watched bits and pieces of the movie and the big musical numbers, mostly on YouTibe. The person in the film I can't stand is the Michael York role. Very annoying perfromance. I would probably enjoy seeing the whole film in Blu-Ray.
-
I always wondered why Shawn Phillips was picked to sing the Main Theme. Not that there is anything wrong with his singing voice, I just wondered, "Why him?" I would think that James Shagita could have done a nice job.

My vote would be to make sure it's visible on BroadwayWorld.com, because I agree with the folks who cite the cluttered nature of the site. It's hard to find things there, but they do have their audience.

You are assuming that George will still be in his right mind when he has finished listening to the entire CD.

I'm listening to "Elf" right now. I'd put that in a similar category.

Yes, but a lot of the work was done before I started to do it.

We are getting close to page 6

I guess I can do the deed and get us there

Congratulations, Cilla, you got us here.

The landlord's cat has been sitting on my balcony since about 4:30 this afternoon. She has been driving Nicky crazy, and in turn, he has driven me crazy!!

Strangely, I am at a loss for words this evening (or even a joke or two). I hope that whatever BK decides to do about OUTSIDE THE BOX, that it will turn out for the best. Great humor needs to be shared.
-
Well. my work here is done.
G'night!
-
Back from rehearsal - for me, basically just watching what Kay has done and figuring out my shooting plan. I made only a couple of tiny suggestions, but the numbers look great.
-
All I know about B'way World is that the other series they do tripled their You Tube views - they were basically in the same boat as us. If they're trumpeting something regularly it goes right in their headlines, which are easy to see. And people who use the site understand it. And I just don't see how we can do worse than we're doing on You Tube. If the season premiere had a couple thousand views I might see the point of staying. And, if I'm ultimately not happy at B'way World I can leave after season two.
-
Here's what we're thinking: If I decide yay we would make an immediate press release announcement, probably on Sunday night (Monday is their biggest traffic day) and they would immediately air all of season one and the first episode of season two. Seems like, even though Broadway World is pretty cluttered, it would be better for the series. As long as WE get notified, I'm sure that we'll all adjust accordingly. ;)

Well, the score is written by Ahrens and Flaherty (who I love), so it can't be all bad. :D

It won't really be any different than going to You Tube. There will be a simple link to follow, just like when I post a You Tube link - it works exactly the same way - same with posting it on Facebook - you just end up at a different destination.
