Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no inverted toenails, and now it is time for you to post until the inverted cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RHADAMANTHINE!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR KevinH!! ;D
-
BK, my Ask BK Wednesday question that I referred to yesterday was are there any other cast album reissue possibilities (besides "A Time for Singing") in the works for Kritzerland?...he asked hopefully.
-
~~~Speedy, Save Recovery Vibes for BK's Cousin Alan's ever-lovin' Dee Dee's Mom!!~~~
Last night, I left work at about 6:00 pm because I went to watch the rehearsal of Olympia Family Theater's locally written stage adaptation of "The Wind In the Willows (http://olyft.org/come-out-to-meet-mole-rat-toad-and-all-their-friends-in-the-wild-wood/)." I know the author and composer and a lot of the people in the cast and staff. I will be running the sound board and microphones again, just as I did earlier this year for OFT's "Goodnight Moon." One of the women in this cast was in that show, too. The show opens a week from this Friday. The score was written by Bruce Whitney, who wrote the score to Harlequin Productions' production of "A Rock & Roll Twelfth Night (http://castalbums.org/recordings/A-Rock-Roll-Twelfth-Night-1997-Original-Cast/12198)."
-
I love "A Rock & Roll Twelfth Night"...I'm sure that I will eventually like (or at least, get used to) "The Wind In the Willows."
::)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Happy, Happy, Brent, Barbra, Kevin Day (or KavinH as it's spelled in the notes just before the correct spelling)!!!
-
It's a half day at
hell the office and then I'm out to Long Island for the weekend. When I return Monday I will have, 4, count 'em, 4 days left for the year. On Friday the 30th we begin the annual volunteer work and then the rest of the time is mine.
-
See you all later.
-
Good morning, all! 6:00am arrived too early this morning, but I am up and ready to see the barber at 8:30. Since the bus schedule s completely screwed up from busgwt cuts, I will be at the stop around 7:45 to make it to Rockefeller Center by 8:30. Following that, I wll hit Toyland for a while and perhaps accomplish something. On my way home, I'll stop at Food Emprium.
That's my day.
-
Good morning, all.
Happy Thanksgiving Eve to all.
-
Happy birthday, DR KevinH.
-
Good morning, all.
I was having a fairly extended, ongoing dream that had the elements of becoming annoying but was oddly kind of interesting, too, so it was annoying to find myself waking up from it even though I really need more sleep. Well, such is life.
-
A very happy birthday to DR KevnH!
-
Re the notes:
Damn, Damn, Damn, Damn! I only recently got that Criterion Thief of Bagdad (haven't seen that since I was a kid) and was rather expecting to be wowed by it. Well, since there isn't yet an ideal one out there, I shall watch and be happy.
-
Tomorrow is the day for opening the Christmas CD, cranking the "good" system up to eleven, and reveling in some NEW! IMPROVED! holiday cheer.
-
Yesterday DR Cillaliz wrote this re: the Dancing With the Stars finale:
Dr Jennifer, I'm fine with the final DWS teams. Mom likes Shawn and Derek the best now.
I was so happy. I was jumping up and down. I'm sorry, Emmitt seems like a nice enough guy. But he was only staying there because of his popularity. That other night we he got all 10s was an outrage. I actually think that Kelly getting 9.5s helped her (and is the reason she stayed). People were so annoyed with the judges.
I'm surprised your mom loved him so much. I can't imagine she would be a huge football fan (which is his fanbase). I guess a lot of ladies vote for the guy. But he was by far the worst dancer left.
This was my preferred final 3. And I'm not actually sure who I want to win. I really do like them all. I do really like Shawn and Derek a lot. I end up routing for him a lot. Just love him (think he's fantastic and the best choreographer on the show). I think it is their comp to lose. Since they have the most popular pro and an Olympic champion. Where Tony and Val are less popular. And Melissa is not that well known. I think a lot of it will have to do with the performances next Monday.
-
Happy Birthday to DR KevinH!!!!
-
Oddly, around junior high school age, I have no idea why, but I became a bit obsessed with the possibility that I was developing an ingrown toenail. It apparently never happened, but it's something I remember to this day when trimming the large toenails.
-
Happy Happy Birthday, DR Kevin H.!
-
Speaking of CDs and such, I have something to
Ask BK :
This is probably a stupid question, but are Kritzerland CD mixes created with traditional two-channel stereo playback in mind, even on today's multi-channel receivers? Are there exceptions?
I was a late-comer to surround sound at home, setting up my first decent system only two years ago. The receiver I chose needed to not only process movie tracks wonderfully, but also assume the duties of a traditional stereo amp in being the hub for turntable and other goodies. (I added a decent outboard phono pre-amp.) It was my belief then, and is now, that traditional stereo sources should be appreciated in their own element, not "processed" in any number of schemes by the receiver. Not that I don't experiment now and then. But I'm a purist at heart, and always force the system into plain old stereo when enjoying regular CDs and records and tapes. I'll bet a lot of people don't pay much attention to that stuff, but it makes sense to me.
-
;D
-
Morning everyone, cheers for the upcoming holiday.
:)
-
I'm late again, see ya, off to work.
;)
But, it is a 3 day weekend for me starting at 1:00pm tomorrow. 8)
Happy Birthday, DR KevinH!!!!~
Greetings from Toyland!
-
Happy Birthday, Kevin H!
So, all of the people who work for the same contract agency that I work for got emails late last night that our time sheets had not been approved by the company we work at (we have to file two time sheets, one for the company we work for and one for the company we work at). Since it had not been approved, we would not be getting paid on time this week.
I'm sure it's a computer glitch. But it does make me wonder if that's how they were going to pay for that contractor appreciation party they were giving us next week.
-
Two!
-
Happy Birthday DR KevinH
-
DR John G.:
Oy!
-
Oy, indeed! What a way to start the Holiday weekend.
-
I'm outta here in 15 minutes for the wilds of Penn Station. I'm hoping it won't be horribly crowded.
I will upgrade my very basic Tracfone this weekend. My yearly renewal is due next month anyway and this phone is 4 years old so I'm going to get a very basic feature (not smart but feature) phone that looks like a BlackberryCrackberry. I still won't use it much except when I'm traveling but it will be fun to have a new toy to occupy myself.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! I'm home all day today to make our house presentable and festive for tomorrow's gathering. There will be 16 of us for Thanksgiving dinner.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR KevinH!
-
Happy Birthday to DR KEVINH.
-
Thanks to all for the comments on THE CRUCIBLE photos....most appreciated.
Wow...DR JOHN G - whose job is it to do that? Maybe they were in a holiday hurry?
-
Today is music day at my house.....which is bad for me....
I just saw a commercial for a game called Apples to Apples that had a sexy Abraham Lincoln dancing wearing only black bicycle shorts and a top hat. :o
JRand, it is listed as Eclipse Series 37. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Eclipse-Series-37-Criterion-Collection/dp/B008Y5OXDI
Oh....I was just by there on Sunday and didn't go in....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Maybe I will wait for a used one on AMAZON in a month or so....
-
OK, so someone just sent me the following recipe for a Holiday Smash. Might be just the thing for those having a liquid Thanksgiving:
Holiday Smash
In a shaker combine:
Bar spoon of leftover cranberry sauce
3 slices of fresh ginger
½ part of simple syrup
Muddle gently.
Add 2 parts Bärenjäger honey liqueur
Add ice and shake well and pour all ingredients into a rocks glass.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy!
It seems that somehow the payroll situation has been straightened out. Yeah. Now we can go kill turkeys and give thanks.
-
This is good news.
Watching HONOLULU on TCM....it has one of my favorite Eleanor Powell dance numbers in it....a hula tap!!
So sad, we lost another Mickey Mousketeer...and she was living near DR JRand62!
I will need to pop in one of my Mickey Mouse Club dvds, because I can't quite recall her. But sad, nevertheless.
BK, my Ask BK Wednesday question that I referred to yesterday was are there any other cast album reissue possibilities (besides "A Time for Singing") in the works for Kritzerland?...he asked hopefully.
Not really.
For the Wednesday ASK BK question:
What was your favorite or least favorite things about Thanksgiving as a kid.
For me, I loved having my cousin's Molly and Bobby over. We'd play board games and watch movies on TV all day long.
I can't think of any least favorite thing. I'm sure my brother was annoying, but that was always a nice holiday.
Oh, and I'm up. I was up at four, briefly, then up a couple of times after that, then finally up at ten, but just stayed in bed till now. People will be here in thirty minutes so I guess I'd better get my do on.
Splendiferous Birthday Wishes to DR KevinH!
I'm at wit's end trying to connect a wi-fi router to my computer. The concept is simplicity, itself: I know exactly what goes exactly where. BUT, there are "instructions" that require many strange maneuvers that, despite it not being important for me to fully comprehend "why", do not make any sense.
For instance: Step 1 has me disconnect my modem and connect my router to the computer, and then I plug the router in. Step 2 tells me I will not have internet connection (well, duh, since I'm disconnected from my modem) and then tells me to open a browser and enter an IP address to "Log in to the Router Settings Page". This does not work. All my not-connected-to-the-internet computer does is put up a "this page cannot be opened because you are not connected to the internet."
?? Huh??
Step 3 says that if I have not gotten a box pop up asking for me to enter information, I should repeat step 2. ?? Huh??
And on it goes.
I have disconnected everything having to do with the router and have reconnected to my modem and I fired off a querulous e-mail to the manufacturer about how to complete step 2 (in other words, are you having fun with me??).
Sigh.
Mom makes me laugh about Emmit she's not a football fan, but has always liked him. She doesn't like Tony and thinks Shawn isn't as good a dancer as the rest, but she's cheering for her. I don't really care who wins. I like watching and talking to mom about it because she's so into it
Happy Birthday DR KevinH!!!!!
So today I woke up and wondered why I'm not going to roast a turkey. I mean seriously, I love to cook the whole meal....so I went to the grocery store and lo and behold there was one fresh turkey left in the display case....only one...it was fate....so I bought it. And some potatoes and 1/2 a pumpkin pie, and black olives...gotta have black olives..and of course the ingredients for stuffing. It was funny, I was singing along the aisles. I'll eat leftovers and freeze the rest of it. I don't have to do all the sides tomorrow. I can make a couple tomorrow a couple Friday and a couple Saturday.
-
I did a jail visit this morning then told Edith we should just close. It's going to be over 70 degrees today. I'm guessing it's about the last of Indian Summer, so we better enjoy it. i've got the windows open and the cats are thrilled
It's all about the turkey, dressing (cooked inside the turkey), gravy, and mashed potatoes, anyway. And pie. So you are covered.
I have to go to Costco for LED Christmas lights and shampoo. And somewhere, I need to find butane for the torch to torch my meringue. Oh, and go to the grocery store for pie ingredients. Kinda don't want to leave the couch. First day in a LONG time where I wasn't expected to be anywhere for anything
T.O.D.
Yesterday I asked.
Yesterday you answered.
Thank you.
DR Cillaliz, we are also in possession of a fresh turkey (almost 21 pounds), but we
have get to share it tomorrow with 14 other people! Except for the stuffing, which we're making, the others are bringing all the sides. Seems odd not to be in control of anything but the entree...
The living/dining room is presentable and festive, now it's on to the kitchen and family room.
AOL has a rather bizarre photo slide show today.
TV SHOWS YOU ARE THANKFUL FOR
The shows were what you would expect (I guess).
MAD MEN
BREAKING BAD
NASHVILLE
30 ROCK
PARENTHOOD
plus a few strange ones, such as:
AMERICAN HORROR STORY
SUPERNATURAL
STRIKE BACK (?)
ARROW
I thought about ARROW, and I guess I can understand that one. After all, I am thankful that I get to see Stephen Amell, at least, once an episode without his shirt.
DR ELMORE: Today I drove up to Poughkeepsie and back, which provided a perfect opportunity to listen to the JUBILEE CDs straight through. Haven't read up on it yet, but the music is beautiful! Well, it's Cole Porter. But what great stuff. Thank you again for those.
I have a Quadrophonic album release of the Broadway cast recording to Company. I don't have a Quadrophonic system, so I've never heard it, but I've always wondered why it hasn't been (or couldn't be) remixed and rereleased in modern surround sound. I would hope that it's not so cheesy that people wouldn't want it, but of course, someone would have to do it.
Since last Saturday I've felt like I'm fighting an oncoming cold or something - please send excellent vibes and xylophones that I win this fight - I cannot afford to get sick, nor do I want to get sick. This has happened three times this year and each time I've won and I must win this time. I've been sucking down Coldeez for the last three days. I think I'll go have some chicken soup right now.
Stay well vibes for BK!
Thank you, DR ChasSmith. I'm really proud of that reconstruction/arrangement. I'm hoping that, if this current recording project I'm on continues, we will get to JUBILEE. On those CDs, the "Judgment of Paris" ballet is from a poor-sounding bootleg of the 1998 Carnegie Hall performance, and no one's played the wonderful Ravel-inspired Act Two Beach Dance, which was written to placate Dorothy Fox, Charles Walters' dancing partner in nightclubs. She had to be employed so the production - and Porter personally - could land Charles Walters.
Just have to dust and vacuum the family room and this house will be as clean as it's gonna get for tomorrow. I've always felt that people who come to holiday gatherings to see how clean or dirty my house is are coming for the wrong reasons.
-
Stay well, BK!
Art Ginsburg, aka Mr. Food, has died. His daughter used to the music director at the Cohoes Music Hall back in the day when shows like "No Way to Treat a Lady" and "Angelina" and "Theda Bara and the Frontier Rabbi" got productions.
I'm sorry, John G.
-
I loved "No Way to Treat a Lady." I saw it at our local theater, and I listen to the CD often. There's a familiar voice on there, too.
-
Stupid question for John G: If you have to put the turkey in cold water to finish thawing it, um, do you leave it in the plastic wrapper or take it out?
-
Speaking of CDs and such, I have something to
Ask BK :
This is probably a stupid question, but are Kritzerland CD mixes created with traditional two-channel stereo playback in mind, even on today's multi-channel receivers? Are there exceptions?
I was a late-comer to surround sound at home, setting up my first decent system only two years ago. The receiver I chose needed to not only process movie tracks wonderfully, but also assume the duties of a traditional stereo amp in being the hub for turntable and other goodies. (I added a decent outboard phono pre-amp.) It was my belief then, and is now, that traditional stereo sources should be appreciated in their own element, not "processed" in any number of schemes by the receiver. Not that I don't experiment now and then. But I'm a purist at heart, and always force the system into plain old stereo when enjoying regular CDs and records and tapes. I'll bet a lot of people don't pay much attention to that stuff, but it makes sense to me.
What the Hell did he say?
Yes! She was the MD for "Angelina," which almost had Carolee Carmello for its leading lady. My memory is that she was offered the role just after she was offered the tour of LES MIZ. She made the right choice, I think. I kept hoping we'd fire the leading man. He stank.
I liked her, but I've forgotten the MD's name. She left her husband and Albany to run off to Brooklyn with the handsome drummer at Cohoes. I don't remember his name either!
I didn't like Cohoes; it was a haunted ghost town: there were ghosts everywhere; it was terrifying walking down thw empty streets after dark, and my apartment above a pizza parlor was full of them. The Music Hall was also haunted but it wasalittle jewel boxof a theatre. Whatever happened to that awful director of "Angelina"? Hated him.
-
I don't think it's stupid at all. I would leave the plastic on, just because it holds all the juices in that will melt during the thaw, and there's less of a mess. You also aren't adding any water to the bird, which you should dry off with paper towels before you get it ready to cook.
I'm outta here in 15 minutes for the wilds of Penn Station. I'm hoping it won't be horribly crowded.
I will upgrade my very basic Tracfone this weekend. My yearly renewal is due next month anyway and this phone is 4 years old so I'm going to get a very basic feature (not smart but feature) phone that looks like a BlackberryCrackberry. I still won't use it much except when I'm traveling but it will be fun to have a new toy to occupy myself.
Crackberry?
JRand, I also enjoyed your Crucible photos.
Ditto! Or Quid-ditto!
-
I just checked the website for the Cohoes Music Hall. Surprised they're still there. Not surprised that they're doing a "Nunsense" show. In the tiny town of Cohoes, the original production of "Nunsense" there ran for more than 1 year.
Other shows included "My One and Only," 'Sugar," a student version of "Rent" and "Five Guys Named Moe." Interesting choices for that space.
Hello, everyone.
STAY WELL VIBES FOR BK!!
In fact, STAY WELL VIBES for all DRs!
-
A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR KEVIN!!
-
Having a lot of Internet problems today. I suspect it's a least partly due to lots and lots of traffic on the system.
-
Speaking of traffic, I went out briefly to run an errand. I did not get on a freeway, I did not drive by a large shopping center, but I did encounter lots of traffic on the way home. No surprise, I guess.
From DR Ginny:
DR Jane, the left foot that I had operated on 4+ years ago is fine, but it will be a long, long time before I'll consider having anything done to the right. If ever.
I'm glad it completely healed. I wasn't sure if it still bothered you at times. Does the right one bother you? Maybe you will trust this new doctor to do it. You might at least discuss it.
-
Ron, I think your router experience is pretty common. When I was renting a room from a friend my router was piggybacking off her PC and my Mac worked fine. Since moving into this apartment TWO seasoned computer consultants have tried unsuccessfully to get the same router to work with my Mac, with no PC in between. The manufacturer's tech service rep was no help whatsoever--couldn't even read the script very well. I solved the problem by purchasing a $6 Ethernet cable. Inelegant, yes, but it does the job. One day I'll buy a new router--a Mac router--and try again.
I survived Costco, barely. And I'm pretty sure I'm closer to moving to that island. I hate people at the holiday season - and sometimes barely tolerate them the rest of the year.
I just got back from the local Costco and it was fairly sedate. I got a regular cheesecake (not a pumpkin cheesecake...and it one of maybe three left that were hidden on the bottom shelf behind a whole bunch of pumpkin cheesecakes) and the line to pay took all of about a minute. Easy as cheesecake pie!
YES! It would've cost a lot more to bake one than to buy one, and it wouldn't have been as big a cheesecake, nor could I have guaranteed a successfully baked cheesecake.
Back from chicken soup, a sandwich, and no fries, plus picking up a couple of packages, including the very pretty soundtrack to The Impossible.
I have done just about all I can do the night before. We have to put the turkey in the oven at 8:30am for our scheduled 4pm meal time. I'll probably crash early tonight.
-
Guess I'll watch a motion picture - don't know if I'm quite ready to watch the other two and a half hours of Patton just yet, so I may put in the screener of Perks of Being a Wallflower.
-
Well, I'm off to my parents' house. The whole family and friends are gathering there tomorrow, but tonight it's just the family and one foreign exchange student. Evidently, my mom signed up her and my dad to be a host family for a student from Japan for a couple of weeks (I don't know what's the event...it's only for a couple of weeks). Anyway, the girl arrived last night and doesn't speak English very well. My parents, of course, don't speak Japanese at all, so my dad got a book from Barnes & Noble and my sister's boyfriend got a translating app for his smartphone. Hopefully, that's enough. :)
Be back later!
-
I thought I had to begin my liquid diet on Sunday morning at 11:00. After fretting about the two days on the diet I double checked. The top of the P was almost touching the M making it look like AM instead of PM. I'm so relieved. Since I usually stop eating by 7:00PM I will begin the liquid diet a little early, but by my choice.
Busy day, but I think I'm at a point where I can settle down, eat a little something, and watch a little something.
Oh -- I *almost* took out the Christmas CD and put it on the player this afternoon. Fate, however, stepped in and presented something I had to deal with, so that pleasure is still on board for tomorrow morning.
Signing off to change my clothes and then try to stay awake through CSI - 'night!
Yeah! Three books that I was waiting for from the library came in today. And I was first for all three. Usually what happens when it's a series and I'm dying for the book is that some other person reserves the book I want a year in advance.
I have 60 pages left in the book I"m reading. But will definitely start one of the books tomorrow. It just came out last week!
Actually two of the three books are final books in series I like.
-
I'm going to go watch X Factor.
That cheesecake looks good. I saw a picture of a box of cheesecakes in a grocery store flyer today. IT looked so good. IT was like 6 different kinds of cheesecakes. And they were all really interesting kinds. Looked so good.
Those of you who pray, I would appreciate it if you would keep Ruby in your prayers. She is 95 years old she fell again, and they say she needs surgery. I doubt she will survive it.
I met Ruby when I started going to my church. What I found out later was that she grew up with my father-in-law. So she's been tied to my family for 90 years.
No, I've never done a surround mix for a CD - I don't see the point, really.
I have a Quadrophonic album release of the Broadway cast recording to Company. I don't have a Quadrophonic system, so I've never heard it, but I've always wondered why it hasn't been (or couldn't be) remixed and rereleased in modern surround sound. I would hope that it's not so cheesy that people wouldn't want it, but of course, someone would have to do it.
I had a quad studio cast of "Man of La Mancha" with Jim Nabors, Marilyn Horne and Madeline Kahn that hasn't been released on CD yet.
What role does Madeline Kahn play?
And while still on the subject of CDs...
DR ELMORE: Today I drove up to Poughkeepsie and back, which provided a perfect opportunity to listen to the JUBILEE CDs straight through. Haven't read up on it yet, but the music is beautiful! Well, it's Cole Porter. But what great stuff. Thank you again for those.
Thank you, DR ChasSmith. I'm really proud of that reconstruction/arrangement. I'm hoping that, if this current recording project I'm on continues, we will get to JUBILEE. On those CDs, the "Judgment of Paris" ballet is from a poor-sounding bootleg of the 1998 Carnegie Hall performance, and no one's played the wonderful Ravel-inspired Act Two Beach Dance, which was written to placate Dorothy Fox, Charles Walters' dancing partner in nightclubs. She had to be employed so the production - and Porter personally - could land Charles Walters.
After Mr Porter landed Charles Walters, did he also put him in the show?
-
Went to dinner with a dozen friends. Most of us have been going out on Thanksgiving Eve for a dozen years or so, and it was just a beautiful evening of fine talk, fine food and fine wines.
It was a yet another reminder of how much I have to be thankful for.
On those CDs, the "Judgment of Paris" ballet is from a poor-sounding bootleg of the 1998 Carnegie Hall performance, and no one's played the wonderful Ravel-inspired Act Two Beach Dance, which was written to placate Dorothy Fox, Charles Walters' dancing partner in nightclubs. She had to be employed so the production - and Porter personally - could land Charles Walters.
After Mr Porter landed Charles Walters, did he also put him in the show?
Waters and Betty Grable were the second leads in "Du Barry Was a Lady" on Broadway. Waters later directed "High Society."
I did a jail visit this morning then told Edith we should just close. It's going to be over 70 degrees today. I'm guessing it's about the last of Indian Summer, so we better enjoy it. i've got the windows open and the cats are thrilled
I bet DR Vixmom wishes she worked for you.
That's exactly what I thought when I read that!!
Prayers for Ruby and all who love her
Art Ginsburg, aka Mr. Food, has died. His daughter used to the music director at the Cohoes Music Hall back in the day when shows like "No Way to Treat a Lady" and "Angelina" and "Theda Bara and the Frontier Rabbi" got productions.
I will miss Mr. Food....he was OOOH So Good!
-
I'm pleased that Cillaliz is cooking Thanksgiving dinner JUST BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO! Enjoy.
Honestly, if Edith wasn't so efficient and productive, I may not be this way, but when we make a list of what we need to get done in x amount of time, it's always done early. She is almost never sick, rarely misses work for anything and I'm happy to be able to give her some time off as a little extra something. She's cooking for Thanksgiving, I figured she needs extra time just like the rest of us do
Prayers for Ruby
No Cold Vibes to BK
-
Good night, all.
-
Those of you who pray, I would appreciate it if you would keep Ruby in your prayers. She is 95 years old she fell again, and they say she needs surgery. I doubt she will survive it.
Is Ruby the neighbor who was taken away by the ambulance? She will certainly be in my prayers tonight.
