Well, you've read the notes, the notes were stuffed, and now it is time for you to post until the stuffed cows come home.

We had a very nice Thanksgiving with lots and lots of food. It went on from 1pm to 9pm. As we were driving home we passed a Walmart and saw the hordes looking to purchase more stuff they don't need. Ugh!

We have no plans for today. We may venture out (I need to pick up my replacement phone). We may visit our friend, Alfred. Or, we may just stay in and watch Lady Be Good (Eleanor Powell) and Second Chorus (Fred Astaire and Paulette Goddard). We will eat more food and we will break into the Sour Cream Raisin pie which Rose makes for me every year since we don't have a Baker's Square in New York.

That's it, my friends. Happy Black Friday to those who celebrate it ;)

BTW, today was back to normal, oatmeal, walnuts, cranberries, cinnamon and coffee.

Good morning. I am still full from yesterday.  I boiled the bones overnight, so this morning when the mess cools I will strain it and finish up the soup.

A funeral this afternoon.

Trying to deal with the fallen leaves at this time of year is a hopeless task. I sweep them all away from the front of the house but next morning they're all back again.

Blu - THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS. New UK release but not much of an improvement on the DVD.

DVD - THE CHAIRMAN. Rented this UK DVD because I'd not seen the film for many years. Not as good as I remember and - dare I say it - I couldn't stand Goldsmith's score (but then I'm not a fan).

Good morning, all.

Oy!   Still stuffed.  Yes, the annual food hangover.  Stuffed, and yet.....DR Ben had to go and mention a Sour Cream Raisin Pie.  I haven't had one in years, and I think that's the first thing I ever had at a House of Pies.  I must find one, and soon.

Oddly, no one brought a pumpkin pie to this T-dinner.  Several other things, though, the very best of which -- it might even be the most delicious of its kind I've ever had -- was a banana cream pie.

I watched some of the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. I do like a parade. BUT I cannot stand watching the lip-synched numbers on the floats. I don't know if the broadway numbers were lip-synched. But if they were they did an excellent job. But the float singing was just so awful. If they are going to lip-synch then don't show them close up. It is so distracting. And makes me only want to fast forward through the numbers.

I wonder who chooses the Broadway numbers. I really feel like most of the numbers were not the right ones to choose. Re: the Annie number. Wouldn't it be nice to actually hear Annie sing? The only reason I would want to see that show would be if I thought the Annie cast was good. But if i cannot hear her sing ...

Are you allowed to say hordes on a family weekend on a family site?

:)

Had a lovely Thanksgiving.  Got to share with Mary jay that someone had uploaded a new high-quality YouTube of a number she had recorded for Skip back like ten years ago, and that was great fun.

Excellent turkey, and I think Skip outdid himself with the blueberry pie and the pecan chocolate chip pie, though I'll go back to counting calories today.. :)  The pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread went over great, and even though I'm not a pumpkin fan, I enjoyed what he did with the pumpkin bread.

Met a Star Wars enthusiast who spoke very eloquently about why that series was so important to his generation, only slightly younger than mine, and he made  fascinating case for that, why that generation resents how it became about printing cash and someone playing around with their icons.  I can't think of anything in film where I feel that way, yet can think of a lot of theatre where i feel that way.  but i digress.  And digest.

Great news on landing Bill Hayes, BK. He's had several of his early TV appearances, including "Kiss Me, Kate," released on DVD lately. Wonder what he thinks of having those shows available again.

I used to watch him on "Days of Our Lives" and saw him tour "Love Letters" with his wife, but I never got to hear him sing live.

I was never a "Star Wars" fan, but I have heard that from a great many friends my age when the second (or first, depending on how you count it) trilogy came about. I was too busy listening to "Sweeney Todd" and "On the 20th Century."

Good morning, all! I slept far to long. I suspect it was the Tylenol PM I took because I am sleeping poorly on accoumt of my shoulder. Now that I am awake, I will begin the laundry.

I've never understood the term "Black Friday," since the color black implies grief or disaster or horror, and since this is a huge day for profiteers, why isn't it "Capitalist Friday" or "Big Bucks Friday"?

DR John G, my friend Peter is writing a musical version of I CAPTURE THE CASTLE; I loved the movie and the book by 101 DALMATIANS author Dodie Smith is quite wonderful.

I believe I have no more news. First, some coffee.

DR Elmore, today is called Black Friday because it's the day that starts the season that enables retailers to finish the year "in the black."  I find the BUY, BUY, BUY!!! messaging pretty offensive, but lots of people I know and love are out shopping today.

Saw him do BYE, BYE BIRDIE at the Orpheum in Seattle.

When I was representing Abe Vigoda, I set up a photo session for some magazine in which Hayes was teaching Abe how to tap dance.

Amazon.co.uk and some other on-line retailers have now started to import "Black Friday" to the UK, which seems an odd thing to do, especially as there is no holiday at this time of year. Many people here must be totally baffled by what the expression means.

I am having a really piece-a-crap day trying to order holiday gifts from Godiva; their checkout system is impossible; on top of that in the 35 or so minutes it took me to enter addresses and get to the actual checkout, a "special" item usually selling for $70 but on sale for $50 went back to full price.  When I called customer service to inquire, I was told the "special" ended at 11am! I'm no longer ordering 5 of those.

Eat s#@t and die, Godiva!

You know it. I don't know what he's like personally (you can share all the stories you like), but twee is quite an apt description of some of his theater books. He gets so wrapped up in his own insight that I really couldn't use much of what he had to say in any of my papers. Still, I find the odd anecdote here and there amusing.

There isn't much insight because he's so convinced of his own genius that he does poor fact checks, so his books have errors, from casting to cut numbers, and he seems to delight in praising second rate revivals of first rate shows he didn't see.  I also get tired of his ultra-conservatise outlook; his appraisal of RAGTIME is insane..  I do think it's funny that he uses a book photo that's at least thirty years old.  He's such a troll, a bridge should be built over him.

LOL. A memorial bridge?

And yes, I remember trying to glean something, any thing from his thoughts on "Company." He spent way too much time and energy on his seating for a Westbury, Conn., production of the show with Vivian Blaine. He offered little insight but made it seem as if his were the only opinion worth considering. I think I ended up using half of a sentence in a 50-page paper.

At nine I had already been up for a long time.  At nine we called Bryan and Skyped with him.  He works such crazy hours it had been too long.  He looks good.  He said the last two days a number of people were in the ER to get checked for STD's.  I guess they wanted to be sure it was safe to party for the holidays. ;D

He looks great.  Is enjoying being back in the ER but said it is by far the most stressful rotation he does.  Once he is done with his residency his hours will be much better.  During Christmas he is scheduled for 6 days in a row with the last one beginning late in the evening.  That means his first day off will be spent sleeping.  They aren't really supposed to schedule so many days in a row.

Trying to deal with the fallen leaves at this time of year is a hopeless task. I sweep them all away from the front of the house but next morning they're all back again.

You live in the wrong part of England.  If you lived in Camelot, the leaves would whisk themselves away............  At night, of course.

I don't think that a little girl kneeling in the middle of 34th Street wih just her dog would make for very exciting TV.  If you wanted to know about Annie's singing, you could read the reviews.  The New York Times, that didn't really care for the production, said that Lilla Crawwford was "possessed of both a golden glow and a voice of brass, (and) is pretty close to perfect in the title role."

It is called Black Friday because it is the day that most retail stores go from being in the red for the year, to being in the black.  I kind of like "Pure Profit" Friday, myself.

I totally agree about the term being a complete misnomer.  And yes, I know what it refers to.  But is any other such "Black [whatever]" a positive thing?

Off in a bit to the Ford River Parade, which is San Antonio's official kickoff to the Christmas season. The River Walk's lights are lit for the first time this fall, and then an hour-long parade of floats lit up with people either performing or playing music on them follows. It's a really nice alternative to Black Friday. I'll be with friends at a seafood place slurping down oysters I would imagine, unless something else strikes my fancy.

What a completely weird day, from lovely to extremely irritating, every other second.  The first irritation was the Kritzerland web host sending us an e-mail saying they were trying to charge my card to renew the domain - first we've heard of this renewal (I'd paid for at least three years the last time) - no warning e-mails, etc.  Normally those come ALL the time when something is about to expire.  I had the web guy call to find out and the person he spoke to said we had our "alerts" turned off.  Well, WE didn't turn the alerts off.  Second, the payment had to be made today, but the card I've used had a) been replaced a year and a half ago when it was compromised, and b) even if they'd had the new card it, too, would have been the one that was compromised last week so it wouldn't have gone through either.  I was not about to give my bank debit card to him or anyone else.  Luckily they do paypal direct, so we told them to do that - it wouldn't go through.  I called paypal who told me it HAD gone through.  I called back and was told that the web guy had gone to the host site and done the paypal thing himself - so that's all taken care of except it was a HUGE charge because they renewed us for FIVE years (all of the domains I have there) at a 25% savings.  Of course, that was their assumption that that's what I wanted, but it's too late to do anything now.  The next time renewal happens I will be SEVENTY.

Then I come home and see that Fed Ex has been there - they haven't taken the signed note I left so they could leave the package, and instead the driver has left me a door tag.  I called Fed Ex and unfortunately the idiot driver hadn't scanned in the door tag and without me knowing the tracking number they could find no record of the package, not even by my address.  Of course, I have no way of knowing a tracking number because the package is from some studio and contains screeners.  So, they tell me he'll be back Monday, but who knows if this package is now just going to disappear into the ether.  Completely frustrating as I really have time this weekend to watch stuff and won't next weekend.  The lovely part of the day was three packages (one of which contained a pumpkin pie sent via Fed Ex to the mail place from the East Coast Singer), one surprising residual check from, of all things, The Creature Wasn't Nice, and my new first edition of Cloud Atlas.  And I did get via regular mail a screener for Flight.

The food arrived too soon, so I only got to see a half-dozen or so floats. Most were playing Christmas music, including a few carols I remember from Germany that aren't played too often. One float, however, was playing "Theme from 'New York, New York'," which was oddly out of place at Christmas and in San Antonio. But nobody but me seemed to care.

Good evening.  DR Vixmom, my laptop suffered a slow death.  It was to the point where I had to practically say a prayer to the computer gods to get it to boot up.  I didn't want Windows 8 because all my other computers are Windows 7, so about 11:00 I ventured to Best Buy. It wasn't too bad at that time crowd wise. Busy, but not oppressively so.   Anyway, I got an open box and a good deal on a Toshiba lap top. I'm still getting used to the keyboard, but I think I'm going to like it.

Then I went to see Sharon at the hospital.  They had just started changing her dressings on her wounds when I arrived so I had to wait about 45 minutes to get in to see her.   Then I had to put on a gown and gloves to go in the room.  The visit was amazing though. She really looks good, but this thing kicked her in the butt.  She's lost skin and muscle all over her body, but she is getting better.   She has her 9th surgery on Wednesday and then will be going to a rehab hopital.  She doen't think she'll be home by Christmas.    They don't have any idea how she got this which is pretty scary.

I have to say it was an amazing visit. She is so up and so positive and plans to get back to working with animals.  She's hoping to keep her former clients etc.  She know's it won't be for a long time, but she's already got the plans made etc.   She really looked good.  It was so great to see her.

I stayed about an hour and we talked and laughed.  I was truly SO happy being there with her. She told me the whole story as it has been related to her because she doesn't remember.  I filled her in on all the people who were sharing information about her and the people who had been asking about her.   She told me one person came to visit her and when she started talking about her condition the woman went into the hall and fainted.  Another stood in the door and talked but didn't "gown up" and come in the room.  I had no qualms about being there.  The nursing staff didn't wear gowns or gloves and neither did her sister.  I figure if they aren't worried about it without gloves and a gown, I wasn't going to worry about it while I was wearing both
