Good morning, all.

(Said over some very good sourdough toast and coffee.)

Of course I wouldn't even pretend to imagine it's as good as Bay Area sourdough, which I've had but not for a long time.  But sourdough is such a great bread, and some of that goodness still comes through in this loaf freshly baked yesterday at the local market.

Good morning, all! I slept late and I'm staying home today in perhaps another vain effort to shake this cold. The alarm rang at 7:15, and I thought, ugh - another hour, please. The next thing I knew, it was 9:45.  So, I'll crash here all day, perhaps work on the orchestration that I'm doing for fun and watch some DVDs.

DR George, TMI maybe, but I heard Bette Midler somewhere yelling "I feel like breaking up somebody's home!"

BK, break a leg tonight! Bill Hayes is great. I met him after the Kennedy Center's so-so WHERE'S CHARLEY?, in which he and sally Ann Howes played the older couple.

More coffee!

There is no way to watch Sundays and Cybele and appreciate it without seeing it in its original scope ratio.  But I don't think it's ever been on regular TV.

Happy December 2, everyone!

If there is anyone who missed out on the Broadway Cares Angela Lansbury/"Mame" holiday ornament (the first in a series that includes Carol Channing as Dolly, Chita Rivera as Charity and Bernadette Peters as Dot), they have yielded to popular demand and had the ornament reproduced.  The cost is $60 (the same price they charge for each new edition).  But, it's a unique series that, if you're like me and had all but the first one, you'll want to be complete.

Watched two movies last night.

On Blu ray, "DeathTrap" which was far more enjoyable than when I suffered through it in a theater.  It's still flawed, of course, but it's interesting to watch Christopher Reeve work post-"Superman".

Very fun Johnny Mandel score (that never saw a release on LP or CD).

Then I watched the Warner Archives issue of the made-for-TV "Dress Gray".  Still riveting.  Excellent quality DVD.  Very atmospheric and chilling score by Bill Goldenberg.

I also recommend the BC/EFA series of "Carols for a Cure," if you like carols. Some years are better than other, but there are real gems, such as Antonio Banderas singing "Los Peces en el Rio" and Bernadette Peters singing "White Christmas." This year's features the cast of the never-to-open "Rebecca."

;D

When we lived in Pennsylvania Keith worked with someone that lived in San Francisco.  He would take us unbaked sour dough loaves that could also be kept in the freezer until I was ready to bake them.  They were delicious.  When we moved to Tiburon (outside of SF) I could not find any unbaked loaves.  Of course I could find plenty of fresh baked loaves to purchase to take home.

The new version of iTunes is completely irritating.  Everything is different now.  The playlists, which were ALWAYS viewable all the time on the left are gone - you have to click "playlists" now to see them.  Stupid.  Making an mp3 from a WAV or AIFF file - used to click on Advanced and "make mp3" - not anymore.  Now you have to go to
File and Create New Version and then you select - so extra work and completely stupid.

I'm back from "The Guilt Trip."  Even if you're not a fan of Barbra's I think you'll like this.  It's one of her best performances ever, imo.  And Seth Rogen has great chemistry with her.  Most of the supporting players have little to do, but it doesn't matter.  It's all Seth and Barbra.

I really want to see this.

Am enjoying this Wallender a lot, which means I won't get any work done until I watch all three episodes.

Which would you rather receive for a handmade gift: a bottle of amaretto, a shelf-stable jar of salsa or a jar of an almond butter? Trying to figure out what to make.

Probably not the almond butter, because you can get machines at Whole Foods to make that fresh for you. But what do you think of the other two?

I shall shortly be on my way to The Federal for video check, sound check, artichoke check, and show.  And I truly hope that upon my return we'll have had a frenzy or nine.

That depends.  What day will you be back?

Now we are seeing Mid-Season/Winter Finale episodes of series....which means a few weeks of reruns are just ahead.

AND Christmas cartoons.

In the meantime,

Say Goodbye to the Stage Deli, a Midtown Staple Since 1937

That is terrible.  And Gallagher’s is closing?

Has anyone read FATHERS AND SONS by Ivan Turgenev?  I'm shocked that I'm finding this boring.
It was not my favorite. I found the main character too irritating. Don't remember much else about the book.

Thanks.  I keep reading how wonderful the book is, and it is a classic, still I'm not sure I want to get through this.
I think it's a classic in the way that "The Sorrows of Young Werther" is a classic. That's a book I respect, but hated reading. Hated the main character. Just because it's a classic doesn't mean it's for everyone.

"Young Werther" is that about the caramel guy?

The new version of iTunes is completely irritating.  Everything is different now.  The playlists, which were ALWAYS viewable all the time on the left are gone - you have to click "playlists" now to see them.  Stupid.  Making an mp3 from a WAV or AIFF file - used to click on Advanced and "make mp3" - not anymore.  Now you have to go to
File and Create New Version and then you select - so extra work and completely stupid.

THIS (http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57556548-37/7-features-apple-killed-off-in-itunes-11/) article breaks down the major iTunes changes.

Today for the first time in my life, I tried to download some music from iTunes.   I couldn't get it to work at all.  So, the changes mean nothing to me, because I never used it before.

I haven't used iTunes, only Amazon's music service. I know it's easier, but it's less fun than holding a CD in your hands, reading the booklet, etc. And that's nothing compared to the good old days of vinyl and some of those great albums that folded open, whether one disc or two. I remember how gorgeous "On the 20th Century" was. And how intricate "Merrily We Roll Along" was.

This Tuesday and Wednesday I'm seeing other shows, otherwise "Wind in the Willows" only runs Thursday and Friday evenings.  When does "Fiddler" close??

December 27.  Well, it doesn't actually close on the 27, but after that it moves to Everett.

Back from a pretty wonderful holiday show - everything went perfectly, episode three got huge laughs (although I'm going to adjust one shot in the set-up - interesting thing I learned tonight), our singers were brilliant and the audience just ate it all up like candy.  Best of all, we were almost completely full.

I'm watching Thursday's episode of "Glee" and Sarah-Jessica Parker is the guest star.  She's at Rachel and Kurt's loft for Thanksgiving and she starts to sing about having a "Kiki," which is some kind of party in NYC.  Anyway, in the middle of it, Rachel starts to sing "Turkey Lurkey Time," and it becomes a mash-up of those two songs.  It was pretty darned fun!
