Well, you've read the notes, the notes were all about 12, and now it is time for you to post until the twelve cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CRUCIVERBALIST!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Oatmeal, dried cherries, walnuts and cinnamon and coffee.
-
Today we finish.
-
I have an errand to run after that and then I will pick up my ticket for The Other Place, a new play with Laurie Metcalf. It ran Off-Broadway earlier this year and is now running at Manhattan Theatre Club.
-
Tomorrow, which begins the rest of my vacation with nothing to do other than what we want to do, I will finally see War Horse (the play, not the movie).
I keep thinking I should see Les Mis, but I don't know when it opens. I can't find any information about it. But, you know those small indie films with unknown casts. It may have already opened and did so badly they pulled it from release. I may have to wait for the DVD (if they even do that).
-
good morning to all
-
i was planning to see LES MIS when it opens on december 25th, but after reading what Peter Filichia wrote about it I am not so sure I will go.
also they are over promoting it in my opinion which for me is a red flag.
they want to get as many people in to see it before (perhaps) bad word of mouth may kill it
-
So I may not go see Les Mis on December 25th until I read the reviews and hear what other people have to say about it.
-
Besides Les Mis which opens on December 25th (Christmas Day) has never been one of my favorite musicals
-
An example of why I don't think Les Mis score is all that good.
When the "Honest Bishop" sings to Valjean the music used Empty Chairs At Empty Tables. Thematically (in my opinion) the music have no connection between the characters who sing the songs
An example where it does.
In Into the Woods when the Baker's Wife and Cinderella sing about the Prince the music that is quoted is Agony which the Prince sings about Cinderella. So thematically it works because there is a connection between the characters.

ASK BK DAY QUESTION
Rewording a question from the other day.
I was wondering why you chose to register your songs with ASCAP over BMI. Is there a difference between the two organizations?
-
Good morning, all.
I'm late! DR Mike just nabbed Reply #12 on 12/12/12. Well, at least he didn't do it at 12:12:12.
-
I'll have to write checks and letters today so that I can date them all 12/12/12.
-
Good morning, all.
Happy 2 x 6/6/6 day.

VERY nice!

Good morning, all! I didn't get out of bed until 8:00, and I am still moving very slowly.
I have to be at goddaughter Charlotte's musical theatre class presentation at 7:00pm at Ripley Grier, which is less than 10 blocks from Toyland, so I will go in later and work until it's time to walk there. I'll leave here around 1pm and head down.
DR JohnG, I thought the CD and DVD of A TALE OF CINDERELLA were both out of print! My memoryof the mix on the DVD is that it's different from the VCR, which I preferred. I have problems with the show, but I can't complain; it made me a lot of money, and I always liked working for the now dead New York State Theatre Institute. They were good people.
More coffee!
-
Wednesday morning greetings! It's clear and cold here in SW Ohio today. Mom has a doctor's appointment this afternoon and she wants to go on our annual pre-Christmas visit to Bern's Garden Center beforehand. I will be E & T for a chunk of the midday.
-
DR Vixmom - thank you for the birthday wish you left last night after I signed off! I'm so glad you had such a lovely time on my birthday (thanks, DR Cillaliz!)
-
DR Vixmom, I am THRILLED you had such a good time!! I knew the seat was on the aisle, so I was hoping the cast would interact with you at some point.
-
I'll be smiling all day just knowing Vixmom had such a good time last night.
-
Happy 12/12/12 We won't have the digits repeat again until the next century.

They were good people. And I hope to have time this weekend to watch Cinderella.
I didn't know there was a filmed version. I'd have bought it a long time ago. Any other filmed versions of shows you've worked on, Larry?
-
Glad to read Vixmom enjoyed the show. I hear the new cast recording will be a double disc with all of the variations recorded. Should be fun.

Off to spend time with Mom - bye for now!

I will be interested to hear what MR BK thinks of the new releases.....particularly ANNA KARENINA.

One thing I will never understand is why some people get all in a huff if you say "Happy Holidays" during this season, rather than "Merry Christmas."
What is tarnation is wrong with being all inclusive of the holidays occuring during December?
I mean really, why would you want to say "Merry Christmas" when it is actually Hanukkah?
Yesterday TCB wrote:
Muslims get very angry if you wish them anything!
DR TCB, I am rather surprised you would make such a comment. I for one have several Muslim friends, none of whom would be angry by any kind of greeting...Christian, Jewish, or otherwise.

I just realized that too much of the month has slipped away from me and I never made the Tennessee Jam Cake I wanted to have on Christmas. It takes three weeks for all the flavors to settle, and, well, there's no longer enough time. What a shame.
Guess I'll have to make something else. Any suggestions?
-
Sounds oddly good, though I haven't the faintest idea what it is.

ASK BK DAY QUESTION
Rewording a question from the other day.
I was wondering why you chose to register your songs with ASCAP over BMI. Is there a difference between the two organizations?
No difference at all - I've always been an ASCAP writer - don't know why really.
-
I'm up - had a good night's sleep.
-
Sounds oddly good, though I haven't the faintest idea what it is.
Jam cake? It's made with two types of jam (I usually use blackberry and raspberry, though fig is good -- whatever homemade stuff I have on hand), a bunch of dried fruit (dried cherries and blueberries work best in my mind, though figs, dates, raisins, currants and cranberries work), pecans, warm spices (cinnamon, allspice), eggs, flour, sugar and butter. Then you make it in a tube pan. Let it set for three weeks and before serving, you make a caramel frosting and top with pecan halves.
Mom won a blue ribbon at the Kentucky State Fair with it one year. To use a word that has largely been neglected on the site as of late: Faboo. Utterly and totally faboo.
Or oobaf, backwards.
-
I'll have some jam cake.
-
I'll be jammin' with some jam cake.
-
Very gray here in the City of Studio.
-
I wanted something to be faboo.....I was praying that it would be faboo.....but it was not.
What am I talking about? Well.....many years....no DECADES....ago - during the Holiday Season, or Christmas Season - if you will - there used to be television SPECIALS featuring all of the STARS of music and comedy. They were almost always in garish color with big audiences and big bands....and lots of dancing.... And I loved watching these SPECIALS that were worthy of that designation.
Well....on Monday night I watched the Christmas Special from NBC starring one of my favorite performers Mr Michael Buble. And it was ... well NOT faboo. In fact it was pretty awful.
The setting and the band were great.....the color was nice (although there were a couple of transmission breaks).....Mr Buble had three special guests....Rod Stewart, Blake Shelton, and Carly Rae Jepson....oh and Elmo.
ALL of the musical numbers were prerecorded, with the exception of a duet with Blake Shelton. There was no POINT to the whole thing.... Michael bounced around pretending to sing and the show just bolted and jolted along.....stopping now and then for a duet.... And the different hand positions and other things certainly pointed to the fact that all of the songs were made of up multiple takes....
THEN Michael sang "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby through some digital magic....and I would swear that the Bing Crosby on tape looked embarrassed.....
ANYWAY I was very disappointed......so I guess it was the Michael Buble Home For Christmas NO SO Special on NBC....last Monday night.
-
My question for ASK BK DAY....for MR BK et. al.
What was your favorite Christmas Special from the past?
-
And the word of the day is: CRUCIVERBALIST!
And The Song Of The Day Is: CROSSWORD PUZZLE
-
I, too, miss those Christmas specials, JRand. I hear the Danny Kaye Christmas specials have come out on DVD this year, I have a couple of Red Skelton's old Christmas specials, and you can find clips of Miss Mitzi Gaynor singing songs from her specials on YouTube. But there are not many people known enough to get such treatment. Maybe Miss Sandy Bainum will get a Christmas special.
-
That would be nice...... Yes I watched a few things on You Tube just to remind me that I wasn't dreaming.
-
At my niece's school Christmas concert they sang Christmas songs. And one class sang one Chanukah song.
But when the concert was over the principal came out and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year. Then after she said if you don't celebrate Christmas she wished people happiness whatever they celebrate.
I would not be offended if someone wished me a Merry Christmas. But I found it very odd that the principal didn't just wish people happy holidays. It just seemed weird to me the way she did it.

That's a brilliant Welles sound-alike.
-
Greetings from Toyland! I've been here about an hour dealing with email tasks. It seems odd arriving at the office about the time I generally leave it
The floor is very quiet today. I'm listening to a Roger Wagner Chorale recording of Christmas music that is either very soft or very loud!
I find it more irritating than entertaining.

From DR Vixmom:
...after about 5 minutes one of them came back and said "You talked me into it I'm staying!" After the show she thanked me for talking her into staying and said how much more she enjoyed the second act
Nice. I'm glad you had such a great time.

From DR Vixmom:
today it a few keystrokes I was able to get a message to Jane that she kindly passed on so Cilla could see it --
Fortunately I was still on the computer which is near my phone or I never would have heard it.

Back from my day with Mom. I am exhausted.

DR elmore enjoy your evening.

Cheesecake or Pumpkin roll. I have delicious recipes for both of these.
I would very much like to try a Tennessee Jam Cake.

I slept in and missed my Wed hike with my group. I picked up to email I wouldn't be there and saw I was too late to do so. I'm glad I mentioned last night I might not make it.
Instead of hiking in the damp weather I went to the gym and had a good work out. There was a chocolate cake to celebrate all December birthdays. I've seen sliced pieces of cake out before & passed them up. Figuring this cake was for me I took a piece. :)
-
Hello, everyone.
Back from a belated birthday lunch with BK. We also browsed through the newly relocated art bookstore that's there now. I asked about the new bakery that's supposedly coming to the Helms Bakery complex, but the askee didn't know. The restaurant where we ate, La Dijonaise, has a bakery, but I know that's not the one referred to in the LOS ANGELES magazine article.
The skies were cloudy, but so far no rain. A nice lunch and a nice little outing.
-
I need a nap. Isn't that what rainy days are for? (Okay, so it isn't actually raining. But it will!)
-
Lovelier than lovely post-birthday lunch - had a ham sandwich, which was really good, and a small Caesar.
-
I used to go to this art bookstore - it was on the Third Street Promenade for twenty-five years - they're in a much more spacious home now, but without the humungous foot traffic of the Promenade. I wish them well.
-
Bruce, I don't think you need a haircut. I think your hair is looking quite good, like it was cut just recently.
-
Picked up some packages and one really irritating piece of mail, which I promptly deposited in the trash.
-
Trash mail!
-
Even though I was disappointed in the Michael Buble Home for Christmas Special.....I did discover the second season of an interesting British series called THE HOUR on BBC America.
It's about the people who work on a British television news program in the very late 1950's......I have seen two episodes of this second season, and now I may have to find Season One.....
-
Lovelier than lovely post-birthday lunch -
:)
-
As I feared, I now want a nap. but I have to leave here in 15 minutes to walk to the presentation at Ripley Grier. I hope I don't sleep through it. Charlotte would be unhappy and her mother would kill me!
-
Stay awake vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Just in case anyone has missed the announcement, Les Miz opens December 25th Christmas day

Speaking of Les Miz, I'm watching Lincoln.

I decided to get two key chains. The square key chain came with the little velour bag. :D
-
DONE with this week's high school music stuff. More next Monday-Wednesday. Hey, it's fun.
-
Nice DR George!
-
Jrand - Sorry i missed seein his show Monday night, though it seems Mr. Buble's CD from last year is enjoying quite a second-year run in the Billboard Top Ten!
-
I share DR Jrand62's disappointment in current day "specials". Recent DVD acquisitions:
An Old Fashioned Christmas (Bell Telephone Hour, 1959-1966, Florence Henderson, etc.)
Bing Crosby - The Television Specials (Vol. 2 - Christmas, 1957-1977)
I know the latter doesn't have an episode I really wish it had, that some channel showed several years back, but hey. It's Bing. And it has a Mary Martin special. I have no idea how interesting the former may be -- I believe we watched some of these but I don't have any solid impression of them. But I am a starving man.

Wow George, I'm so very moved. I wish now I had ordered the silver framed ornament instead of a plain one.

I'm curious about when Les Miz opens.
-
Speaking of Les Miz - I'm still watching Lincoln and will be fore at least another ninety minutes. No screeners today, unless some arrive late.
-
I'm curious about when Les Miz opens.
What? They made of movie of Les Miz? When does it open?
-
I think it will be a Beer Cake, which has the same spices, nuts and dried fruit that the Jam Cake does, but the addition of beer makes it much moister and richer, adding a yeasty quality.
-
I'm curious about when Les Miz opens.
What? They made of movie of Les Miz? When does it open?
Exactly one week before New Year's Day.
;)
-
A group from work went on a barge cruise down the river today. Beautiful weather, in the 50s, light breeze and healing sun at a few spots. Just beautiful.

I'm curious about when Les Miz opens.

Did you read ANY of the posts? ;)

I had it sent to my work, so I don't know exactly how it was sent, except that it has "UPS MAIL INNOVATIONS" on the label and "ZIP - USPS DELIVERY CONFIRMATION". So, either the mail and/or UPS.
-
I'm now hearing rumblings that Les Miz may come out on Christmas Day. Can anyone confirm or deny these rumblings? Speaking of Les Miz, I'm still watching Lincoln.

I am home from the presentation, which was very iffy. Charlotte was wonderful and fully prepared. Her parents have got her vocally in wonderful shape. She brought the house down with "The Boy From . . ."

The original RCA Broadway cast album of OLIVER! said that Lionel Bart was doing a musical of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

Yeah, and Stephen Schwartz did a musical of the same, only with cartoon characters.

Have a good rest of the evening, all. :D

Kind of cool looking, not sure if it would be comfortable.
-
Finished Lincoln - during the credits I went out like a light for about forty minutes.

At least you waited for the credits ;)

Watching "Don't Look Now." Forgot how wonderfully creepy this movie is. Don't think I quite appreciated it fully when I saw it in college.

Watching something called Moonrise Kingdom - this film gives "arch" a whole new meaning - also it's the yellowist film I've ever seen. Good cast and I'm prone to like films about kids in love, having written my first novel about such things, but this thing is just too cutesy and arch for its own good - I gather the director, Wes Anderson, is known for this kind of thing - just not my cup of Diet Coke.
-
Les Miz opens 2 weeks to the day after my birthday.
'night!

Post Deleted
-
Finished Moonrise Kingdom and am wondering when Les Miz opens.
-
I think it's on a Tuesday...strange day for a movie to open....maybe it's a holiday or something
