Well, you've read the notes, the notes were clean as a whistle, and now it is time for you to post until the clean cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: QUADRATE!
-
first after BK? My word!
-
I have to be at church shortly just dropped in to say have a lovely day all!!
-
We still do not have our tree out of the garage let alone set up = it must happen today or there will be no tree --- cannot possibly happen during the week
-
And I never got cards
-
to send out this year
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee!!
Oh never mind, it's right here in front of me.
-
Thank you for the birthday wishes, DR George!
Late is fine. Late is good. I'm not even having my "real" birthday dinner with close friends till later this week. It's kind of interesting how, when you're a kid, your birthday was your birthday, and as big or small the party was, that was that. Now, as the sophisticated adults we are with our whirlwind activities, we re-arrange and stretch these things out to accommodate people and schedules and whatnot, and birthdays, as often as not, seem to go on for a week.
-
Good morning, all.
Will try to catch up in a bit.
Still in a Boogie Wonderland after last night's Earth, Wind and Fire concert at the Christmas party. Plenty of fun and good music. They're still great to listen to. In other words, it wasn't a revival of "Hot Feet," if anyone remembers that musical bit of mayhem.
-
I was, however, given my "big" present already, and it's what I'm drinking my freshly brewed, very intense cup of very good coffee from:
A new KEURIG! :)
-
Good morning!
-
It would be great if BK would post a snapshot of the Grundig when set up on the new cabinet.
Most old radios are beautiful and lovable things, almost by default. But a nice Grundig is at a whole nother level of design and beauty.
I have a late-1930s floor standing Zenith, acquired because I'd always remembered the large radio in my grandparents' house. Make and model of theirs is unknown now, and there were literally hundreds of variations during those years, but this is a nice one and fills the bill just fine as a stand-in. It even works!
-
In a little while I must needs go E&T until this evening, the start of four days of music and commuting hell, and the reason I can't go to hear the East Coast Singer tomorrow evening. Kills me, but it's a commitment made long ago.

Christmas in South Carolina, Part 2:
I know the first installment purported to catch you all up on my first few days here in SC, but the truth is that there was one more event -- on Friday evening -- that iced the cake. I recalled, after the shock of learning we had a theatrical event to attend that evening, that mom had asked me if I'd like to see a performance by the Edgefield Community Theater of a play called "Christmas Belles".
What harm could there be in that, right? And the ultimate answer is that there was no harm at all. It was a story about a group of sisters -- the Futrelle sisters of somewhere in Texas -- and how one of them had stolen the role of director of the Christmas pageant from the woman who had done the previous 27 pageants. The new director had one of the town's worst reputations and thought that doing the pageant for the Baptist Church would be her ticket to an elevated respectability, of sorts. Well, I won't bore you with more details about the plot. Suffice it to say the play is peppered with characters named Rhonda Lynn and Ginny Jo and Gina May, and other southernistic combinations of names. A frustrated pastor wants to propose to one of the Futrelles. The husband of one of the Futrelles is the town Santa and runs around in a foul-smelling Santa suit and often falls to the ground in pain because he's passing a kidney stone. There is a lot of silliness and exaggerated mannerisms because, after all, it's all set in Texas.
If any of you remember a TV show called "Evening Shade" that starred Burt Reynolds, you'll remember there was a character in that show who rode around town in his little wagon. The character was named Nub. Well, there was a Nub-like character in this one named Renard. He just "loves Christmas". And corn dogs.
So...it was two hours of some good acting, some bad acting and high-pitched line deliveries and women tossing hissy fits around like they were flinging tinsel on the town Christmas tree. It was not what I expected, exactly, but in some ways more than I expected. It was not well-directed, but there was some wonderful character development among the cast...they "knew" the people they were playing and "occasionally" brought some nuance and subtlety toward their creations of same.
Yesterday was low-key. The highlight of my day was an afternoon playing Skip-Bo with my mom and my Aunt Doris. My aunt won three hands, my mom won two and I took the last hand.
This morning is church. The First Baptist Church of Johnston is having its annual Christmas Cantata this morning. Tonight is their annual Christmas gathering for the children. I'm supposing I'll go tonight, but I'm definitely taking in the Cantata.

Hello, sixteen guests!
-
TOD Yesterday:
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson at the Phoenix Theatre in September. It's the only theatre performance I saw this year in addition to the four shows I was involved in at PCPH.
-
Good change vibes for MR BK and Kritzerland.
THREE RELEASES before the end of the year!?!?!?!?! I shall have to save my $$$.
Sorry to hear that ANNA KARENINA is Luhrman-like.....oh dear.....
-
Good Morning! We had rain!
-
BK - Vibes that the changes work out well.
-
Good morning, all! I slept very late, and I am on my first cup of coffee. I need a trip to market, and that's my day.
DRs Jeanne and Ginny, since I'm a total nincompoop in the world of the computer, I have nothing remotely intelligent to say about 10.6.8. What I can say positively about the Mac upgrade as a user, is that it's running faster, I have more GBs, I am up-to-date on all software, and best of all, the Mac seems happy to be rejuvenated.
More coffee!

good late morning to all

i also did not care for The Master mainly due to Joaquin Phoenix performance. I had the worse time understanding what he was saying. Mumble Mumble. A character choice but not a successful one in my opinion. He also would stand around with his hands on his hips in a certain way, many times throughout the film that to me was an affectation that became an obvious "character choice". But perhaps the main reason I did not like the movie was that I didn't like or care for any of the characters.

And the word of the day is: QUADRATE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: A NIGHTINGALE SANG IN BERKELEY SQUARE

Morning all.
That is all.

Friends from Middlesbrough (AKA Teeside) will be arriving for a visit in about an hour.
-
I will try to post a picture of the decorated tree tomorrow morning. First we have to take a picture of the decorated tree. Since we are having guests, I'm sure a picture will be taken in front of the tree. I will then have to take it off the memory card, transfer it to Photobucket and then post the picture.
Perry Como is singing Walking In A Winter Wonderland right now on Vintage Vinyl (a show on BBC Tees). In 5 minutes my friend Alex will begin her show. She is friends with the friends who are visiting, in fact, she introduced us to Roy and Tom.
-
Since no one is about but me I will leave this merry site and continue preparation for our guests.
-
Yesterday I spent a good 30-45 minutes getting my mom's tv all programmed for her. Mediacom stinks for cable ready tv. The numbers make no sense, anyway, I told her not to unplug it (she unplugs every night) Today she said she didn't unplug it, she just turned off the power strip. SO, everything I did is undone, lol. I really did expect that.
-
So, I went online got the channel listing, emailed it to dad and told her what her favorite channels are. I have it saved on my laptop so she can call me and ask when she can't find her tv shows
-

I think the previews look horrible and I used to like him.

Good idea.

DR Ron thank you for your entertaining Christmas in South Carolina, Part 2.
-
LOL DR CILLA LIZ.....I feel your pain.
-
Barely two pages? Two pages barely? We'd better get off our little complacent butt cheeks - this is a HOLIDAY season, so let's get some festive cheer and some postin' goin' on around these here parts.
-
I slept until eleven-thirty - really needed it and that's my excuse for not being here earlier.
-
Looks like it rained a bit.
-
I shall now have to scurry a little and go out and get something to eat, then be back for this Face Time rehearsal - which I haven't heard anything about in three days. We'll see if it happens.
-
So no one wants to see the East Coast Singer's show for free, including drinks? Amazing.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We are back from Lima, having made 2 very informative and productive stops on the way. First, we drove through and around Dayton International Airport and scoped out long-term parking options. Then we stopped in Franklin at Walmart, where I found both of the "As Seen on TV" items that my Mom mentioned the other day. Merry Christmas, Mom!
-
Nice finds DR Ginny.
-
I've been searching for books I can get through the library. I downloaded one book that came up while I was searching for a different book the library didn't have. I noticed it has a forward by Bruno Bettelheim, the renowned child physiologist, and great grand father of our dear little Eli that Bruce entertained in Portland.
-
Nice finds DR Ginny.
Big relief, too, DR Jane. I'd decided if she didn't drop some do-able hints last Wednesday, I'd put together the knitted shawl that I've finished and give it to her for Christmas. The catch is that she knows I'd started it for myself, so would probably know it was a consolation prize. She, unknowingly, gave me two great suggestions and will be pleased, I think.
-
You must have wanted to jump from joy when she gave you the tips. :)
-
Bruce I look forward to the photo of your Grundig sitting on the new cabinet.
-
I did not want to see ANNA KARINA before Bruce's comments. I told Keith we aren't watching it ;D

Does anyone besides DR Jennifer use Goodreads?

Does anyone besides DR Jennifer use Goodreads?
I'm on it, but rarely use it. I do use FictFact, though, and sometimes Library Thing.
-
Hmm, I feel a nap coming on. Maybe because I woke up a little after 5 this morning...
-
Just watched "Downton Abbey Revisited" on PBS hosted by Angela Lansbury. It showed clips from the show (including a preview of Shirley MacLaine in Season 3) and interviews with the actors and creators. It was shown with interruptions for the pledge drive. Luckily I had recorded it so I could skip over that part.

I'm not familiar with them-will have to do some research. Can you follow what your friends read like on Goodreads?
-
I found an interesting comparison of Goodreads vs Library Thing. I will stay will Goodreads though I doubt I would want to switch if I can begun with Library Thing.

spent a relaxing afternoon at home with Kismet

Page Two!?

Back from a sandwich and fries. Why are we still on page two?

In the truly misguided department, a very nice and well-meaning man is trying to put together a benefit to raise money for the tragedy with the shooting back East. This seems so wrongheaded - this isn't a hurricane or a typhoon or a tsunami - this is a TRAGEDY that is not a natural disaster. That's not what this is about. These families haven't reached out to anyone for money and why would they? I'm just baffled sometimes.
-
So no one wants to see the East Coast Singer's show for free, including drinks? Amazing.
It's tomorrow night and I can't. I like her album and I hope it's a big success for her and Lanny.
-
I went to see my niece's sychronized swimming performance today.
Some audience members were so annoying. They have no common sense.
There are risers with benched seats. And their are staircases. Does it seem reasonable NOT to sit in the aisle on the staircases?
My sister had gotten our seats hours earlier when she had to be there. And these people show up 2 minutes before the show and practically sit on our laps (in the aisle/staircase).
They put two people and a baby carriage right on top of us.
I asked them to move. They did.
-
Then others also decided to block the stairs and sit on the bottom row of the staircase.
And later others sat two rows down from us blocking the aisle (and by this time there were seats just a few in from where they were seated.
It was so annoying. I cannot believe that people don't have more common sense. Or that the people in charge did not make an announcement not to sit on the stairs.
We were leaving after 2 more routines (for the people who sat two rows below us). Otherwise I probably would have said something.
-
Went over to my aunt's house and decorated her tree. And put on the lights (which i don't know how to do). She tried to help me. But I've never done it before so I didn't realize understand if it is supposed to be tightly against the tree or loose.
She finished the bottom of the tree herself thankfully.
-
Then my mom and I helped her decorate cookies. She makes tons of cookies every Christmas. Not sure why but she wants to make 13 different kinds. The ones we did today were in the shapes of trees, bells, snowmen ... they needed to be decorated with sugars.
I do like decorating cookies. Only did not know that I would be doing this (thought i was just going for the tree since her and my uncle can't climb on a stepladder to do the top of the tree.

I think a lot of us are simply stunned by the horror of the event. The posts I'm getting on Facebook reflect a lot of anger over the tragedy, outrage over the gun laws in this country and a feeling that something should be done but all the posters, and myself included even though I'm not posting, feel is a complete sense of futility. I was glad on Friday that I had Fed Ex and a holiday shipping deadline to distract me because watching the news of the tragedy had me feeling like a mouse running around a cage with no direction and no ability to cope with my feelings.

The weather was so-so coming back. It wasn't snowing hard. BUt there was a lot of precipitation on the window. It was lightly snowing. Making it hard to see in the dark. :(
The first 15 minutes were good. The last 10 minutes were good. But 10minutes in between were not that great.

People feel the need to do something. I agree, no one even knows what to do for them yet.

Looking forward to tonight's SURVIVOR finale.
Not looking forward to the time start. And since part of the finale is live they can't start it earlier here on the Canadian station. I guess i should check if it is still scheduled for 8:30pm.

Lights are a pain to do & since they are the cause of many a Christmas fire we rarely used them.

There have been, IMHO, too many arguments over gun control over at FB.

Just had a chat with the owner of Broadway World, and the next two Sundays (following two weeks from today) will have encores of season one's first two episodes, with the new episode of season two being teased. Episode four of season two will premiere on January 6th, after the holidays. They just don't have the traffic they normally do during the holidays, and this really eases the tension of my editor who would have been scrambling to finish episode five if we'd originally aired episode four next week. His problem is the facility we use to edit is closed for almost a week and a half during the holidays.

Good morning -- um, afternoon.

And, as always with Facebook, the posts seem more about the posters rather than the tragedy. That's the downside of Facebook and always has been - people, some of whom mean well, just have a forum to put their stuff out there - but it's always about them. After seeing about a hundred "There are no words" posts followed by many, many words in those same posts, I just had to stay away.
-
Page three? Three pages?
-
Rehearsal should start in ten minutes and I do know they will make the Face Time try to happen this time.
-
Half the stuff put up, those photos with sayings, are filled with quotes that don't fit, or missing info, or something. I think Diane Feinstein has an interesting approach. In my opinion getting the 2nd amendment changed won't be easy. She is proposing to ban assault weapons. Not that I'm up on all the regulations that could make this bill not work.

One of the stone workers suggested to Keith we add the little wall on the side. It was exactly what that area needed.
-
DR Jane, the photos are wonderful! I want to sit on that deck and read a book.

In the absurdity department, I just wrote a check to my gastroenterologist for $1.18. It will probably cost them more than that to bill me for it and to process my payment ::)

Yes, very silly. They must use a service.

Well, maybe this person is using the term "fundraiser" because it's a concept he understands. Perhaps as he gets involved with people on it, it will morph into something better.

Not today. It is wet out there. At least it warmed up just enough that rain is falling and not more snow.

I saw one article that said open to read what you can do to help. When I opened the article there wasn't anything about helping.

Well, a fundraiser would help with funeral costs and there will be quite a few of those to pay for. Also that idiot Fred Phelps and his "Baptist" (I use the term loosely since I know real Baptists) group are planning on picketing the funerals. It's very possible, if this does occur, someone may kill Mr Phelps or his minins and need bail money. I'd actually like that.
-
They're running the duets now, then will start the run-through. It looks like Face Time will work okay for watching.
-
At long last, page four.
-
After the rehearsal, I'll watch something, I'm sure.

I wish the news would completely ignore that idiot, just like I wish they would avoid naming the young man who exploded at the school.
-

I would have loved to see the show, but I ain't there. And that can be a hindrance.

I agree, but the media can't seem to ignore the likes of him or any other of last year's news has-beens. So I don't hold out much hope. You can also hear news directors hankering for footage of someone who would dare trample on the grief of these families. It''s so much more exciting than mere grief. (Maybe this is one of the many reasons why I don't watch TV any more.)
-
Just finished watching "Your Sister's Sister," an independent movie that wears its independence and low budget a little too proudly. And it becomes all a little too precious. Thankfully, it was only 90 minutes.
-
My whole schedule is off today. Didn't get to bed until 2:30, then got up for church at 6:15 and stayed awake until 3 for brunch with friends, followed by a long afternoon nap. Too long. I probably won't sleep later.
-
We have our Volunteer Party tomorrow. It's been on our calendar for over two weeks.
-
Have a good time!

Well, I need to upgrade to 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard?) in order to update my iTunes because my current iTunes is not compatible with my upgraded iPhone and my new iPad Mini. Then, I think I need to update to Mountain Lion in order to connect it all in iCloud. Thank goodness for AppleCare!

I never did get that nap and I've still been awake since just after 5am, so - 'night!

...DRs Jeanne and Ginny, since I'm a total nincompoop in the world of the computer, I have nothing remotely intelligent to say about 10.6.8. What I can say positively about the Mac upgrade as a user, is that it's running faster, I have more GBs, I am up-to-date on all software, and best of all, the Mac seems happy to be rejuvenated.
...
I turned the sound off of my Nook so as not to disturb Keith at night.

'night

And the word of the day is: QUADRATE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: A NIGHTINGALE SANG IN BERKELEY SQUARE
The name of another play that I always forget to include on my resume.

LOL! I'm sorry, but LOL!
-
Just got through with a cooking frenzy. Had about 10 pounds of leftover ham from an office potluck that had been going to waste at the office, so I brought it home and make a huge vat of ham soup, some ham salad and them roasted some radishes in the oven (without ham).

Sounds likes something my mom would do, except they have no cable TV and no computer.

Time for 'Snow White and the Huntsman." If nothing else, it's got Charlize Theron.
-
Well, forty minutes into the movie and it's really lame, as if its sense of imagination had been misplaced in its desire to be more violent than suspenseful.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
How can we still be on page four?
-
And since most dear readers are fast asleep by now no matter which region they live in, perhaps this will be our new low posting day.

Lucky you! I scored a ham bone from our last funeral and made delicious ham and bean soup.
-
There was a little knock on my door earlier, and I had a visit from the children next door. They said their Christmas tree didn't have many ornaments, so I let the go through the box of ornaments from my mom's house that I didn't know what to do with. They took home a shoebox full of ornaments. They said they had a small tree.
Mae-Ling said they need to hurry home to light the last candle on the menorah tonight.
-
Ham and bean soup sounds wonderful. Didn't have the beans, so I had to use cabbage, onion, beer and a few other veggies in a vegetable stock. The temperature has begun to drop again tonight, so I'm thinking it'll be a good warmer this week.
-
Not getting any writing done.
-
So, I figured a few posts might help.
-
At least warm up the fingers.
-
And take us closer.
-
Five!
-
The last candle on the menorah was Saturday night.
-
Hmmm.
-
So no one wants to see the East Coast Singer's show for free, including drinks? Amazing.
I'd love to see the show! But I can't...I'm nowhere near that side of the country.
-
Well, a fundraiser would help with funeral costs and there will be quite a few of those to pay for. Also that idiot Fred Phelps and his "Baptist" (I use the term loosely since I know real Baptists) group are planning on picketing the funerals. It's very possible, if this does occur, someone may kill Mr Phelps or his minins and need bail money. I'd actually like that.
You wouldn't be the only one, Larry. ::)

Shooting tonight at one of the movie theaters in town. No real details yet. Sad. Scary.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Had a very long and very good conversation with our very own Mr. Nick Redman - my comfort zone has gone back to almost normal
-
Watching Our Man Flint - will finish tomorrow night.

Could be.

Who knows?
-
There's somethin' due any day

I got a feelin' there's a miracle due, gonna come true

Sigh.
-
What am I, Tony all of a sudden?
-
Very slowwww tonight - I mean the time it's taking to get a post to actually post.
-
Now it's better.
-
Good is good, but better is better.
-
Slow again.
-
Reallllly slow that time. I do not like slowwwww.
-
Night, all.

Today I ordered some of Jane Lanier's caramels, or as she calls them karmels by Jane. They are the best caramels or karmels I've ever eaten. I forgot to buy some last year, so this year I've ordered ten boxes of them. She'll deliver them on Friday, so Friday will be a caramel kind of day.
-
I didn't even know John G. was in the jernt.
-
I was, however, given my "big" present already, and it's what I'm drinking my freshly brewed, very intense cup of very good coffee from:
A new KEURIG! :)
What a lovely present! I hope you enjoy yours as much as we are enjoying ours

It's not a matter of want it's a matter of can't

Oh yes - my folks too ---
My Mom will not turn on her cell phone because she doesn't want to 'waste the battery" and then complains when she is out and no body calls her on her (turned off) phone
