Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no bunions, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently reading Damon Runyon, eating an onion, and looking at a bunion.
-
And the word of the day is: STRIDULOUS!
-
To answer a question from yesterday - I've not thought about recording the song Lost Horizon, but probably will record another song from that score.
-
Welcome four GUESTS. Our GUESTS, I'm afraid, have bit the dust - maybe that's a good thing, maybe not. I do hope they don't think they can just mosey on back here whenever they damn well please.
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to once upon a time dear reader Julie.
-
It's time for the big push to win the Broadway World Best Special Theatre Event Award - only three days of voting left - please tell all your friends to vote asap - and if you haven't, really, don't make me bitch-slap you from here to eternity and hell and back, just do it. It only takes a moment, as Jerry Herman said. You just register your e-mail address and then you only have to vote in our category. We're currently being trounced by a show that had a cast of thirty, and a group that has membership in the hundreds - hard to fight that, but we must fight the good fight and get the little guy to win. Today, the stack of Kritzerland CDs that I'm now free to get into whilst I putter about cleaning and organizing. This, by the bye, would be the same cleaning and organizing announced several days ago, and now it simply must be done. So done it shall be, to some great film music.

Just trying to stay out of "trouble" - LOL! :)

Friday morning greetings! We had a wonderful time at Richard's younger brother's house last night and got home very late. Three of the 5 Palmer cousins were there:
Chris, an Air Force helicopter pilot whose stories make his parents pale
Jen, a bank (well, credit union) officer just like her grandfather
Rob, our son the paramedic
Jen's husband and Rob's wife were also there. Chris' girlfriend is stationed in Germany.
-
The paper says we got 45 cms of snow yesterday (which is close to 20 inches). Yikes that is a log of snow!
-
Like DR Elmore, I'm having a haircut today. After that, like DR Dan (the Man), I have to go to the grocery. It will probably be a zoo there, because it's the Friday before New Year's AND there's more snow on the way :P

Is today's birthday girl "Producer Julie" who I met last summer?
Well, happy birthday, whoever she is!

Nothing of anything at the moment. In fact I see I bought no CDs this month but as I only buy two a month on average and bought four in November, that makes it about right ;D

I am hoping to get to the theatre this weekend to see either LIFE OF PI or GUILT TRIP.

Greetings from Toyland! It's nice to have the internet back up.
Yes, DR ChasSmith, you did meet E&T DR Julie this summer.
-
I have been to barber, Radio City Christmas tree (really beautiful this year), social security on 48th Street, and I will be here for another hour or so. Then I will head home and do laundry, followed bya movie with goddaughter Charlotte.

I was going to post this as well.....it bothers....

Happy Birthday, Julie.

TOD:
HERE'S LUCY Season Six - I watched the extras last night....syndication promos for about a dozen episodes - some family home movies from Disneyland....a couple of PSA's that I didn't watch all the way thru.....
And the episode I wanted to see LUCY MEETS LUCILLE BALL.....which wasn't as funny as I thought it might be. And of course the longest extra was a SPOTLIGHT ON LUCIE ARNAZ......even though she has been "spotlighted" on a couple of other season collections.....in fact the first release of HERE'S LUCY was Lucie's favorite episodes of the show.....
-
CD - Michael Buble Come Fly With Me that also has a nice DVD with it.
-
2014 event vibes for MR BK.
-
Jrand - thanks for the comment on YouTube!!!

(also to Jrand - Did you opt for it to now use your real name in your YouTube comment rather than your screen name?)

DR FJL I didn't change anything....YOU TUBE did.....but it doesn't bother me....
-
We had a 1978 Hallus Valgus, but it was always overheating, so we traded it in.
-
DR MBARNUM thanks for posting the Fontella Bass clip....as has been stated....the girl could SING!! And I loved SHINDIG because for the most part - the groups and singers did their songs LIVE!!! Something very few of today's singing "stars" do.

Wasn't General Norman Schwarzkop's father one of the investigators in the Lindbergh kidnapping case?

We had a 1978 Hallus Valgus, but it was always overheating, so we traded it in.
We had a 1978 Hallus Valgus, which, as you might imagine, had a fair amount of sediment, but it was still quite drinkable, definitely a light but amusing vintage.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR JULIE!!!!

I was listening to Broadway on XM this morning and they were doing a whole show on the movie Les Miz. I decided that today is the day. I'm going to the 1:15 showing. I can't wait to see it.
-
We had about 4 1/2 inches of snow or so. Maybe a little more than that. It's the light fluffy stuff and there isnt' any wind yet so it's not too bad to get around

They played several clips of songs and did interviews. I only heard Anne Hathaway interviewed but did hear some other clips.

I'm up, I'm up, heating the house, which is currently sixty-two degrees.

In one hour I'll have a one-hour work session and then I'm FREE.

Free as page THREE.

Page THREE, yes it's true, let's get off of page TWO.

My nephew, Herman, is headed off to California to play in the Rose Bowl parade. His high school is the first from Lexington, Ky., ever to be chosen to play in the parade. As you can imagine, he's terribly excited. They have to take a long bus ride to Atlanta before flying out. (I pity both the bus driver and the airline. ;) )
They are last in the parade. I don't know if that means they get cut if the parade runs over time or what. But he has to haul his French horn around for 3 1/2 miles of parade ground.
-
I am happy. I have Season 4 of DAMAGES from the library. When they changed stations in the US (after S3), the Canadian station decided not to carry the show anymore. :(
I loved the first 3 seasons.
-
I am home and heading down to the laundry.
-
It's not that easy to see which tv show dvds my library has. But i see they also have S1 of HOMELAND. I will take that out some time.

Happy Birthday to DR Julie!

My favorite author (Kelley Armstrong) has two enovellas that came out in the past two weeks. I am trying to decide whether to buy them or wait till they maybe go on sale at some point.
They are sort of expensive ($5 and $5.99) for enovellas. Maybe they are longer than I think.
-
I am trying to decide how high to set my goodreads goal for next year (how many books I think i will read). I include e-novellas and children's books that are over 70 pages. But I don't include other kids books (otherwise that would really increase my total).
Not sure whether to do 100 books again this year. Or to aim for higher. If I do 150 I don't think I would get there. I could always do 100 and then add more if I think I can do it (you can adjust your goal).
I also don't include free ebooks that i get on my kindle unless they are novels. I have lots of cookbooks and stuff like that.

We're currently being trounced by a show that had a cast of thirty, and a group that has membership in the hundreds - hard to fight that, but we must fight the good fight and get the little guy to win. We can do it if we all pull together and vote, vote, vote (that is three votes, although we'll need a lot more than that). Spread the word, word the spread, won't you?

Topic of the Day:
The studio cast recording to A Christmas Survival Guide (http://castalbums.org/recordings/A-Christmas-Survival-Guide-1999-Studio-Cast/5484). I'm ushering tonight for a local production (http://www.harlequinproductions.org/seasonpages/13/survival_guide.html). It should be very good!

DR JRand, I'm so sorry to hear about your friends.
I have been nagging Richard for a couple of years to stop shoveling snow and, finally, he's waiting for a call back from a guy who was recommended by the company that mows our grass. They don't do residential snow removal because they have so much commercial business.

Well, I went out to do errands and brought back Page 4!

Smart move. I used to shovel show as a kid, though we never got a great deal in Louisville. Just blizzards or dustings, no in-between. It was back-breaking and exhausting work for a teenager. Breathing can become much more difficult in the cold.

Hello, everyone.
It was gorgeous out earlier, but the sky has clouded over and it's gotten quite chilly. Rain is forecast for the weekend. Maybe Laura and Kerry will get some of it, too.

Yesterday I did some laundry, then did a run to the local Trader Joe's. It was the LEAST busy I've ever seen that store. It was really nice! I could actually shop without bumping into other shoppers.
PS: I was NOT born to shop. When a store is crowded I can't concentrate on my shopping and just want to head for the exits.
-
From DR Cilla:
I got the Denny because it was mostly complaints about the table of contents not working or something like that. Anyway, it was something that didn't concern me and it was what Elmore recommended
I was thinking you were my Nook friend with Les Miserable to lend. A search shows me it is DR TD not you who has a copy. I wish I had noticed that before I purchased mine.
A few years ago I re-read our copy of the Count from The Spencer Press. An online search shows this is an unabridged edition.

I was really good foodwise over Christmas and thought I should splurge a bit for New Year's. Trader Joe's, of course, is a great place to do that.

From DR Cilla:
Yes they are. She still hasn't looked at her missing arm...not sure how she's managed to do that. She said she isn't ready yet
By not looking may be how she has kept her spirits up.

From DR elmore:
Of course B&N is pushing their editions which are 19th century public domain ones.
But especially formatted for the Nook ;)

95 1/2!!! I expect Paul also knows how very lucky he was/is. Once he get through this difficult time I send vibes this will be a comfort to him.

I still can't tell you how many books I have read this year. I'm dating them on Goodreads so maybe next year I can count them.
-
DR Matthew it is nice to see you, and all of our DR's who only stop in for a quick hello.

I used to read that much. Then grad school changed my reading habits for the worse.
Grad school can do that to you. :)

Oh dear.....a acquaintance of mine was shoveling snow Tuesday and passed out.....they got him to the hospital, but there was NO brain activity.....he was removed from the machine this morning....gone.....
And a classmate who graduated with my brother and me in the high school class of 1968 died on Wednesday, but no cause was given in the paper......
How very shocking and sad. My condolences is to you on the passing of both of these people.
-
Sorry about your double dose of sad news, DR JRand.

No plans for today. It's bright and sunny out but also very cold and windy. I think I'll venture out and just go wherever my fancy takes me.
How long have you and your fancy been dating?
It's been on and off for years. But my fancy was in a generous mood today--he took me to Best Buy and bought me a new Blu Ray player.

I had a loverly time with Charlotte, and we both loved GUILT TRIP; I laughed, I cried. It's a delightful movie and Streisand and Rogan work quite well together. She's ideal casting, and I'm not a big fan. She's quite wonderful here.

DR JRand, I'm so sorry to hear about your friends.
I have been nagging Richard for a couple of years to stop shoveling snow and, finally, he's waiting for a call back from a guy who was recommended by the company that mows our grass. They don't do residential snow removal because they have so much commercial business.
When Keith recently did his hours of shoveling he said I should stay out there with him in case he needed me. I told him I wasn't concerned he would have a heart attack from shoveling. It is the men who aren't in good shape & don't do the physical work he does that have heart attacks while shoveling.
I did stay with him and I do like to check up on him when he is working outside. I worry more about him when he is on the riding mower than when he is shoveling, unless it is icy. Falls are scary.
-
Thank you to everybody for your thoughts.....it does give one pause.....
Yes, events like these do.

THE COUNT FROM THE SPENCER PRESS doesn't sound like a very exciting book. I hope you enjoyed it.
I did ;)
-
From DR George:
I'm seriously thinking about dropping Netflix. I just don't watch enough to justify the monthly price. They're definitely making money off of me.
We couldn't get the DVD's we wanted making it was a waste of money.
I can understand that, but I have over 250 titles in my DVD queue and about 130 in my streaming list. ::)
We can't stream here. When we kept a long DVD list we only received the ones we weren't really interested in and not the ones at the top of the list. When I did the monthly free trial I only put up a few DVD's we really wanted. The result was that we received only a couple of DVD's in the entire month.

I stupidly didn't click on save when I dated them. Now I have the hang of it and am marking them correctly, at least I hope I am.

Your my fancy is very generous to you! ;) I think I need to find my own my fancy. I am actually thinking about getting a new Blu-ray player.
Actually what I want is a new region-code free DVD player. For about a month or so, I haven't been able to play ANYTHING on mine...not even US releases. I thought that it might be that the region code setting somehow got screwed up, but I don't know what could've happened. Anyway, I was looking on eBay and there are several Blu-ray players that are listed as all-regions for both the Blu-ray AND the DVD! And several are also under $200. I think that if I get one of those, I can give my parents my current Blu-ray player (since they now have a hi-def TV) and probably just throw away my DVD player. I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of it.
-
When we got our Blu-ray player I forgot to ask Keith about the regional thing. Oh well, too late now & I don't expect to need that too often. Heck, we have enough problems just finding the Blu-ray DVD's available to rent.

Happy Last Friday of 2012!
Have waited all day for the postman (or postmistress) to deliver my "held mail" which was scheduled to be delivered to me today.
Where is it is what I want to know. It's after 5 p.m. Have sat here ALL DAY because I didn't want to miss it.
Shucks!
-
Glad you liked The Guilt Trip, DRelmore! I thought it was great too!
-
Our mail finally arrived at the normal time today. DR Ron did your neighbors receive mail? If not it sounds like you didn't get reactivated.
-
I'm happy to say my luggage has been delivered (it didn't make it on my flight yesterday).
Shouldn't I get a refund of the $25 I paid?
-
Right! At least they delivered it free & didn't make you pick it up.

I would hope so! I certainly wouldn't hurt to ask...or demand...a refund. ;)

95 1/2!!! I expect Paul also knows how very lucky he was/is. Once he get through this difficult time I send vibes this will be a comfort to him.
He knows, but it's still hard
-
I had been waiting several days for a call back from the doctor's office. I'm glad I called today as on the 26th they left a message on a voice mail, who's I have no idea just that it wasn't ours. Now my appointment won't happen until after the 31st which means it won't be covered under this years deductible.

Jrand, so sorry about your friends

DR Jane, a lot of people have heart attacks when shoveling.

Loved Les Miz today. I really think the criticism of Russell Crow is overblown.

Yes it will help. He is already saying she had a good life etc. But he's lived with her since his dad died in the mid 1990s so they were very close
-
a few years ago Vixadad was looking at snow blower but wasn't sure he wanted to plunk down $600 + for one - I said it was cheaper than a heart attack and convinced him to buy it - I am glad he did
-
i have 2 cats on my lap (none in the yard)

I have had the same snow blower since 2001.
-
DR Jane, a lot of people have heart attacks when shoveling.
I know and I've read, numerous times, most of those of men who are out of shape & not used to strenuous work. I could be reading info that isn't accurate & Keith could have a heart attack while shoveling, but I believe the odds are against it happening. Keith is in far better shape than in his youth.
-
Loved Les Miz today. I really think the criticism of Russell Crow is overblown.
Or you were expecting less from him and were pleasantly surprised ;)
I'm glad you loved the movie.

That is really hard. The closer we are to those we love the harder it is when they are gone.

Yup though some shoveling is usually required. I doubt I could work a snow blower with this shoulder.

We can do it if we all pull together and vote, vote, vote (that is three votes, although we'll need a lot more than that). Spread the word, word the spread, won't you?

I have been informed that I have already voted.
I have more than one e-mail address.
;)
I do, too.

Got "Beasts of the Southern Wild" on tonight. I had not read anything about the movie, on purpose, but I know the reviews were positive, especially for the little girl who is the lead. Already a few minutes into the picture and I can realize she's a wonder.
-
Had two dinners tonight, and I now realize that was one meal too much.
-
Loved Les Miz today. I really think the criticism of Russell Crow is overblown.

I'm glad you loved the movie.
I've read a lot of negative remarks about his performance and I thought he would be really bad. I thought he was very good, actually

I have a really cheap snowblower that works just fine and is very very easy to use. It's a lot of work if you get a lot of now all at once but for 6 inches of snow or less it's fine
-
Cilla does Paul have any family he is close to?
Yes, his sister and her family live here. His mom was going back and forth between the two of them the past few years. Paul ate dinner with all of them when his mom was at his sister's house
-
He also has a lot of friends here and is very well liked

I recall your mentioning this but not anything about family.

This is sweet. It sure helps having a good sibling at a time like this.
-
Had two dinners tonight, and I now realize that was one meal too much.
Please describe them.
The first was at a place called the Fruiteria, which specializes in Mexican small plates. I had a six chile margarita with a grilled octopus salad, a lightly spicy shredded chicken stuffed chipotle chile and pork belly with a corn sauce with almonds in it. Then I had a bowl of fresh fruit.
I then went to Bite, another small plate place, more Eurocentric, where I had a glass of sparkling rose' along with white anchovies and a type of ratatouille, followed by a plate of king trumpet mushrooms stuffed with ground veal and a nice sauce. I ended up with a glass of white wine that the bartender described as sweet, but thankfully wasn't.
The mushrooms were the best of the lot, although the pork belly was very good.
Bite was very small and had very uncomfortable chairs at the bar (there are only 7 tables). Then the owner came in. She's a lovely creature, dressed to the nines, and she was wearing a perfume that smelled very expensive. Yet she was wearing so much that is was unpleasant to be around her. That made me happy to leave when I did.
-
Possibly it is the overwhelming perfume more than the 2nd dinner that doesn't agree with you ;)
-

You could be right. She was across the restaurant and I felt I couldn't breathe.

I am in awe, DR John G.

Very sad news, Jrand.
-

But they were all small plates, except for the fruit. Only three or four bites each.

It would have made me sick and I know DR Jennifer would not have been happy.

Twice we had a short outage and each time I had to restart the computer. I hope we weren't recording anything. Before another one happens I think it is best I say...
'night

I am expecting he will be fine at the acting but weaker at the singing. I think those who love the stage show are used to a more forceful Javert.
-
I wasn't going to leave the house today, but we're going to see "Les Miserables" tonight. My second time.
Matthew, sorry to hear that you didn't like the film.
;)

That was my thought...that he's a different Javert than people who love the show may be used to, but I think he's still convincing.
-
I called my friend Fiona at the last minute before I went to Les Miz and she said she'd love to join me. She loves to talk movies, so after the movie we went out to an early dinner. We had a great time and were home by 6:00.

What the HELL is going on with this site? I lost a post, I couldn't connect, then when it finally connected it's slow as molasses and taking five minutes to load a page. I've alerted the host.

Finished with my viewing. Watched two motion pictures and am watched out for the evening. I had intended to not eat that much today, and yet... I had some tuna on a couple of those small Hawaiian roles, I had some slivers of salami from the Eyetalian salami David Wechter got me (one sliver on one of those small Hawaiian roles), a reasonable piece of my daughter's cherry loaf cake, and then the capper - two chocolate Entenmann's donuts. If I hadn't done those I'd be fine, but there they were staring at me forlornly.
-
Slooooooooooow.
-
A little faster just now.
-
That's better.
-
Even better.
-
Damn them, damn them all to hell.

Still not as lightning fast as usual but close.

The entire internet seems to be acting strangely tonight.

I have been trying to watch this video on You Tube, but it keeps locking up on me. It is called the Best News Bloopers of 2012. But everytime I try watching it I get stuck, and always at a different place each time. I think I will hold off until tomorrow to try and see it. What I have seen, so far, is very strange.

Yes, it is. I'd like to go to bed and it is taking forever to upload photos.
-
The host said it was fine for them - I wrote back and said it was NOT fine for at least ten minutes but that it IS fine now. They said they'd look into it.

I gotta tell you.

Well, my work here is done.
G'night!

Just finished watching "A Party for Comden and Green" while waiting or the Internet to work quickly. And that's it for the evening. Good night, all.

So, suddenly after two weeks of four to eight GUESTS, the little buggers are suddenly back - forty-one GUESTS right now. Amscray little buggers. If you can't stick around then amscray.

Well, I'm off to the theater for some ushering. I'm sure that I'll have a rollicking good time. :)
Be back later!
"A Christmas Survival Guide" was a great show! Three terrific performers and a great band. Although, I think they changed the songs...is Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" really a part of the show? There were a couple of other songs that I'd never heard of, but they were all performed quite well. There was a small audience (only about 80 or so in a house that seats nearly 200), but everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
