Well, I survived the first day back. You sound like many of the people I work with who returned yesterday.
How I will survive the next 7 years minus one day is anyone's guess.
I'm tired. ;DMe, too.

Travel vibes for Ginny. Feel-better vibes for those in need.
Second day back at work is so far better than the first. At least, I didn't oversleep an hour this morning...
I have been playing DARLING OF THE DAY all morning. I've also got the original 7-minute overture and demos of three cut songs; "Putney On The Thames" just brings a huge smile to my day.
Re BARNUM (note: not the DR)... I was surprised, too, that a high school would tackle this, but apparently it isn't all that uncommon, including the tightrope. They're going to build the already large stage out over the orchestra pit area (orchestra's on stage for this) which will give them a great space for the circus venue.
You're right. Dale had to do the tightrope walk. A machine would have run the balloon. I think we'd all rather see the performer actually do something above and beyond.Re BARNUM (note: not the DR)... I rememeber that Joe Layton and David Mitchell originally wanted to have Dale sail off in a hotair balloon from the stage and up over the audience at the end of the first act, but scrapped that idea because the insurance would have been astronomical. I don't think that would have impressed me as much as the tightwalk walk.
And the word of the day is: FESTOON!
A.R.T.'s revival of PIPPIN is opening tonight, reimagined into a circus/Cirqe Du Soile milieu by director Diane Paulus. Back at my college in 1986, a couple of us theatre majors proposed a similar production of the show. All the department heads said that it was a hackneyed idea.It might still be a hackneyed idea. But that doesn't mean hackneyed ideas don't work. (It would be like saying that it was hackneyed to slam a door in a farce.)

I wanted to record the Mummer's Parade string bands while I was at my sister's house on New Years Day, so I had to make some room on the DVR. One of the movies that I deleted to make space was HOLY MATRIMONY with Monty Wooley. Now I have to keep an eye out for it to record again--I want to see if it is the source material for DARLING OF THE DAY.
Today I am having lunch with a buddy of mine who I have not seen in ages. We worked together in retail almost 20 years ago.
He now works as a biology teacher and football coach, which normally would mean we'd have absolutley nothing in common to talk about. Still, it should be fun to catch-up.
Thursday evening greetings from Russell Square! Our 7:30 flight finally left Newark at 11pm last night. The delay actually worked in our favor, hotel-wise. If we'd arrived on time at 7am we would have had a lot more time before our room was ready. As it turned out, we checked our luggage at the hotel and just had time for lunch and a look at our immediate surroundings. Naps and showers later, we're at Starbucks for wi-fi, which costs an arm and a leg at the hotel.Congrats on a safe arrival.

Maybe he can pimp out a football player for you and you can pretend the kid is 75 years old.

I wanted to like ELEMENTARY since I'm a fan of both Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller. but it didn't hold my interest.

What else has Jonny Lee Miller done? I liked seeing Aidan Quinn in the show.

He played Mr Knightley in the last BBC version of Jane Austen's EMMA.
Finished with my viewing - Looper - the first forty minutes gave me a big headache trying to figure out just who was doing what to whom and why, but once it kind of became clear (in its way) then it was enjoyable on a certain level.
Major health vibes to Sherlock's doggie brother Boz. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IT is so cold here. :(
With windchill it is something like -22C (which is like -7F). Freaking cold. Brrrr.
All of this discussion about BARNUM is making me feel so special.
I am ignoring the fact that it is not about me.

We flew last night with several 20-somethings who were very impressed with themselves because they were on their way to England for graduate study. Wouldn't they be surprised to learn that this gray-haired couple is here for the same reason?

I believe DR Jane watches (or watched) it. I caught an episode by mistake last week, and I ended up really enjoying it. I guess you don't have to worry about Holmes and Watson sleeping together. At times, they can hardly stand each other.

He was the lead in the short-lived "Eli Stone (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0892535/)."
AND he was the first Mr. Angelina Jolie.
Getting my act together... not really taking it on the road, but heading to Disneyland tomorrow with the DP and his mom and my mom. Smile everyone!
I was happy to read that BK may do shows at the Signature Theater here in Northern Virginia!
I would just like to announce that I am full of tacos.
Had a wonderful lunch with Scott and his wife Christy. Turns out Christy only works a couple of blocks away from me.Great to hear.
Also got to see their dog Jack, a German Shepard mix who has a personality so like my dog Bosco, and of course I loved him!
And I may be skipping dinner tonight.I would just like to announce that I am full of tacos.
I had too much spaghetti!
Anthony had the same thing, since we live in the same house (apartment) and it was being microwaved anyway.
DR MBarnum I'm glad you had a wonderful time. Did you offer to pet sit?

Wow, that sounds kind of uncomfortable. But hey, it is Disneyland.

It might not be. Disneyland is my territory. Plus, my mom and I love to travel together, so that will be fun - and we love to do Disney together. We've done Disneyland and Walt Disney World (twice!).
We are driving, actually, I'm driving, which is fine. We'll have a nice ride and I predict a good trip. Of course, I'll do my best to check in

Of course!
Power is fickle.
TCB-- I meant to thank you for explaining why Feb. 20 will be a Wednesday.
Into Chapter Three and eleven pages today - I guess I'll do one more page later, just to get past the little section I'm on now.
Time to watch a motion picture. I'm dealing with a slight annoyance - it looks like we have to move our usual Sunday night show for February to Monday because of the stupid Super Bowl. If they'd told us this four weeks ago we could have at least had the option of moving to Saturday night, but that's now also booked. So, we'll do it but I've told them it can NEVER happen again on a Monday (it's only happened twice before and both times we had a Saturday night show, which is fine). Because they way it's being presented is if I don't take the Monday then we miss February and I've told them in no uncertain terms if I EVER miss a month that I leave and find a new home. We sell out this room, it provides a huge dinner tab for the club and they need to protect that rather than alienate it. This comes just as I find out that we're now sold out for Sunday with a waiting list.
I'm not sure how one goes about uploading photos here any more, so if you click on the FB link, you can see my new dog, Chester, who we adopted today.

Finished with my viewing - Le Herisson (The Hedgehog), the French movie from France that dear reader Jeanne recommended. Brilliant. Is that based on the Murial Barbery book? I loved her "Gourmet Rhapsody."
