Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland's show, and now it is time for you to post until the Kritzerland Kows kome home.
-
And the word of the day is: PEDAGOGICAL!
-
And for those forgetful dear readers, here is the direct link to the new Outside the Box episode: http://broadwayworld.com/videoplay.php?colid=443461

Last night, I watched "Looper" that I got from Netflix (I really liked it...and even though Bruce Willis is left-handed, I noticed that he shot his gun(s) with his right hand). After that, I started watching the director's cut Blu-ray of "Little Shop of Horrors." I've got about 10 minutes left...the original destruction of the world.
-
I was definitely planning on watching "Outside the Box" after those. :D
-
I've watched the episode and I must hang my head in shame...I've not seen the original move.
My bad.
-
Well, since it's one of the best movies ever made, yes, you must hang your head in abject shame and rectify that immediately. Can't imagine any of our version would make sense to you.
-
"Chinatown" has been added to my Netflix queue and moved to the top. :)
-
Congrats on the show going well!
-
good morning to all
-
saw the latest outside the box.
the setups are becoming real gems. the reactions are great
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
"The Iron Lady" was on TV last night. I didn't like it at all. It was just a series of incidents with no story line or point of view which ultimately became boring. It was only worth seeing for Meryl Streep's performance.
-
;D
-
Good morning.
:)
-
I'm sick. Need to be under the covers before 8pm everyday this week or I will not survive.
Wishful thinking. :)
-
Good morning, all.
Happy Monday vibes.
Glad the show went well. Enjoyed the new Outside the Box, especially the lyric "The city's in a state." I won't give anything else away.
-
Off to work.
Happy 2nd week of 2013. ;D

Congrats again bk. 8)

PIPPIN would have been my immediate answer but since we will be getting Diane Paulus's revival in a few short months, I would go with either ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY (*NOT* with Chenoweth, thank you!) or FLORA, THE RED MENACE (is the book really that bad?)
-
Good morning, all.
Welcome to the second week of January 2013, and to a glorious week of moderate (winter) temperatures, sunny days, and -- the one thing that counts -- no snow!
-
Someone posted on Facebook that the PIPPIN revival has a new ending that sounds absolutely awful to me. I hope that this isn't true because no matter how wonderful the rest of the production, this new ending would sour everything...

Good morning, all.
Welcome to the second week of January 2013, and to a glorious week of moderate (winter) temperatures, sunny days, and -- the one thing that counts -- no snow!
Now that I've finished putting away Christmas at my house and I'm beginning my cocooning season, I would welcome some snow. We woke up yesterday morning to find a surprise sugar coating of snow outside, but it was melted and gone by noon.
-
Congratulations on a great show and another episode of Outside the Box!!!
-
I can hardly believe it. Yesterday morning I posted my usual regret at not being able to see the Kritzerland show, typing (all the whilst thinking of the exact, correct song, I assure you) "Sunrise, Sunset" instead of "Matchmaker, Matchmaker."
Anyone here who was paying attention must have thought: "Wha'.....?"
So, it is now confirmed. I am an idiot. I wonder how I could ever follow that act! Maybe by later forgetting to watch the new episode? :o Nah. Impossible. Who could ever do a thing like that?
-
I will watch the new OUTSIDE THE BOX episode when I get home tonight. The bandwidth here at the office is crappy and makes viewing any online video frustrating.
-
I wonder if FLORA, THE RED MENACE was ever published as a hardback. They put out everything back in the early 60s. Need to research...
-
Good morning, all! TEXAS CHAINSAW 3-D was the big grosser this weekend. And this is why the wonderful little GUILT TRIP is floundering.
I watched the new "Box," which had only a few moments where I laughed. I didn't find it as funny as some of the more outrageous ones, but I liked the cast, Kay's staging, and there are a couple of really really good tunes that I liked very much. So, i'm going to digress here for a second: why is it I find so much current popular song, as well as jingles written for commercials, to be so unmelodic and performed by so many offpitch singers? BK's episodes are full of melody and good musical theatre performances. What is the problem with these morons preferring limited ranges, limited tunes, and often very limited performances?
I am off to Toyland!

RE: posting the link for Outside the Box
I do think that posting the link will get more people here to view it right away. And also mentioning when it goes up.
Truthfully I must have missed the mentions in the notes. Because last night when it was asked why no DRS had watched the new episode I didn't even realize the new episode had gone up. So I definitely think it helps to give the link once the episode is up (since i don't visit broadwayworld and maybe other DRs don't either and might forget to check for new episodes).

I liked the episode. But since I've never seen Chinatown the references were lost on me.
I am curious what is the age demographic on broadwayworld? I mentioned a few weeks ago about doing current spoofs. Or even from the 90s on. I would think their demo would be younger (could be totally off). And was just curious if the references were getting lost on some people.
BK, I think you're a really funny part of the videos!

OK, this Portuguese dish will not likely appeal to all, but I'm seriously jonesing this morning on the sounds of a sandwich featuring ham, sausage, roast beef and cheese covered in a gravy made with beer, port and butter. I may have to make this soon.

Monday afternoon greetings from Norwich Cathedral! We've had a full day and are now enjoying a short break until the Evening Prayer service. After that, we are invited for drinks at the Precentor's home before dinner in the Refectory.
-
Been thinking about this. Following upon what DR Jennifer said, I also think what happened this time -- at least speaking for myself -- is that we're so accustomed to having the direct reminders and the link spoonfed to us (like the adorable little DR infants we are), that the mentions of it being shown at the Kritzerland show somehow made it seem as though it was being previewed for them; i.e., that they were seeing what was to be released to Broadway World the following week.
Or something! Not making excuses. But for what it's worth, that seems to have been my own lazy train of non-thinking thought. :)

Yes for some reason, I didn't realize it was up for viewing last night! HA!

We did do Sunrise, Sunset as our Encore - we always end the show with something the audience sings along to.

We did do Sunrise, Sunset as our Encore - we always end the show with something the audience sings along to.
I'm glad they know the lyrics to that. Apparently, on a recent Jeopardy, the three thirtysomething contestants didn't answer a single question/answer on Broadway lyrics. Questions such as "The lusty month" or who's looks are laughable, unphotographable.
-
Re the Outside the Box comments today, which I'm enjoying. Even though some of them are indeed more outrageous than others, my intention always is to write them as if I were really writing a musical of the source material. Some lend themselves to more outrageous treatment (The Miracle Worker, Ben-Hur) and some don't (the current episode) - but it's almost the ones that don't that make me happiest, and seeing the new episode with the audience last night was fantastic. The set-up scene got great laughs, as did the first two numbers. The final song really only has three laughs and they're not huge - the accompaniment, and the two references to Chinese food, but a friend at the next table leaned over to me after the final song and said, "That's such a good song!" and that, for me, means I succeeded in my goal.
And so far, only Peter Filichia, who sent me a really nice note about the episode (he really liked it a lot) noticed the very intention reference in the first number to the opening number of Merlin :)

Thanks. So basically the huge bulk are 18-44 years old. But most are in younger demographics than even 35-44. That is what I was thinking. To me there are a lot of older movies (like Sound of Music for example) that would be known no matter what your age. But there are lots of iconic movies that most young people would just not be familiar with.

I read LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS last week and today finished reading the second volume of the Elvis Presley biography this one titled CARELESS LOVE.
Not exhaustive, but very good. Since finishing the books, I went to purchase DVD copies of the Elvis documentaries THIS IS ELVIS, ELVIS ON TOUR, and THIS IS HOW IT IS about the Elvis' Vegas opening in the 1970's......haven't seen any of them for many many years.

DR JANE I find it ironic that so few of Ray Bradbury's books are unavailable in the latest format.

A bit of Texas slang that I learned today:

I saw this too, DRJohnG. I had meant to see My Fair Lady and tried to get a ticket for Sunday's matinee, but it was sold out. I guess that was for the best since I read today that "Liza" got sick during "Wouldn't it Be Loverly" and the show was cancelled!

It is 6:20pm and there is still no mail delivery today. The stupid woman taking the route today is moving very slowlyand she most likely won't hit this side of the street until probably after 7:00. The post office claims it's in financial trouble; perhaps it's from paying overtime to incompetent postal workers. This is ridiculous.

The mail arrived about 10 minutes ago.
Has anyone seen these dreadful Real Estate commercials composer Mitch Leigh (Man of La Mancha) is promoting? They are what one could call disgusting.

Those Mitch Leigh commercials must be local.
But am I sick of the "Weight Watchers" commercials with Jennifer Hudson?

Hi - we're back from Disneyland. bk, I waved to you as we went through Burbank on the I-5 both down and back. No one killed anyone, were all alive. I'll spare you all the gory details, but we had a great time. The new addition to Disney California Adventure was amazingly done. Beautiful artwork, wonderful use of space and technology. A+ from me.
I'll do my best to catch up!

I've been following a story on facebook which I shared for my Portland friends. Saturday night a women went into a restaurant for dinner leaving her little dog in a crate in her car. Unfortunately another car, a suspected drunk driver, crashed into her parked car and split. Looking at a photo of the car she is lucky her dog survived (thinking of you DR Cilla). The crate popped open and the dog ran away prompting a major search for him. His story was on the news & was shared on FB and today he was found. He is limping but otherwise fine.

And now, I must be leaving. Tonight, Theater Artists Olympia is having their callbacks for the female version of "Reservoir Dogs." I made some copies of the script so that the auditioners can have something to audition with, so I need to be there. I'll stay for a while and see how it goes.
Be back later!

From the various sightings of him they suspected he was staying away from loud noises after the crash which is my guess why he wasn't hit by a car.

Well, it took me a few days to get back to it, but I watched the second half of BELOVED INFIDEL tonight, and loved it. Before starting this post, I went back and reread BK's notes about it, so to make a short post shorter, I'll just say I agree. On every point. It is such a total pleasure, not to mention an honor and a privilege, to spin these beautiful Blu-rays and be able to return to the golden age of the '50s/'60s.

I was amazed at how much I accepted and liked California Adventure. I never saw it in its first incarnation, but it's certainly a fine place now. Disneyland itself is still wonderful. I certainly miss a few things they've dropped or changed radically, and a few old favorite areas were closed for maintenance or renovation the day I was there, but with few reservations, I am happy to say that, all in all, the current state of things met with my approval.

I have always been curious about California Adventure. It didn't exist yet the last time I was at Disneyland. Wow, it must be about 30 years since I was there.
-
When my niece was eight or nine, my sister and I decided to take her down to Disneyland. We had such wonderful memories of the park that we wanted to watch my niece have the same experience. After about a half day at the big "D" my niece told us she was bored, and asked if we couldn't go back to that other cool park, Knott's Berry Farm, that we had gone to the day before.
-
I would like to go back to Disney World some day.
-
I don't see much chance of that while I am in a wheelchair or on a walker.
-
Crazy day spent mostly in the editing room. I only got one page written after finessing and then I had to go. Four hours in the editing room, trying to shorten the mammoth 9:30 piece down to a more reasonable running time. Funnily, it didn't seem long at the long length. I was brutal in the set-up scene, removing a lot of Stephen Findle superfluous lines, dropping one audition completely, and just getting the others to their essence. Most of the time came from that section - I also cut the opening verse of the final song and that plays better that way. So, running time is now just at eight minutes. Watching it again just now I felt we may have cut the first audition too tight so I think we'll put back the two lines of dialogue we cut that follow it, then I may remove one more very short audition, and I'm going to cut one more line at the end of the audition sequence. So, it will still be eight minutes, but it moves right along and I think I'll be fine with it.
-
BK, have you watched THE IMPOSSIBLE yet? If so, what did you think of it.
-
I had a sandwich for dinner. Then I wrote about four more pages - not nearly enough today, so I'm now going to watch one or two episodes of The Killing and then write for another ninety minutes. I should be able to do at least four to six more pages.
-
I wrote about The Impossible right after I'd seen it several weeks ago - I liked most of it very much. The director was one of the five that I voted for today.

I wrote about The Impossible right after I'd seen it several weeks ago - I liked most of it very much. The director was one of the five that I voted for today.
I thought you had, but I was too lazy to go back and find out. Besides, we need the posts.
-
So what film do you think will take Best Picture? LINCOLN?

And another one comes out! Kyle XY's Matt Dallas Announces He's Gay and Engaged to Musician Blue Hamilton on Twitter (http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/entertainment-eonline/20130107/b376140/)! :D
Who?

Hi - we're back from Disneyland. bk, I waved to you as we went through Burbank on the I-5 both down and back. No one killed anyone, were all alive. I'll spare you all the gory details, but we had a great time. The new addition to Disney California Adventure was amazingly done. Beautiful artwork, wonderful use of space and technology. A+ from me.
I'll do my best to catch up!
So glad you enjoyed yourself.

Home finally after 2 1/2 hours of intensive dance classes. Body still aches, but it seems to enjoy the exercise.
There's a reason they call the fox trot the "f" dance, though. Every time I take a class, they change the rules on me. I guess I just need to take more classes.

Arnold has a new film coming out. Stallone has a new film coming out. Suddenly I don't feel like I am too old to start a film career.
-
I'm watching the last half hour off "Jiro Dreams of Sushi." Jiro is 85 years old and the passion he shows for his work is astounding. He is the master of his craft, the only Japanese sushi chef to merit a three-star Michelin rating, and yet he talks about another chef who, he says, is better and how much he'd love to be that good. He's ever working at becoming better. And I admire that.
And, yes, he does dream of sushi.
-
TCB, can we push this puppy to page five soon?
-
I guess not.
-
Haven't had time to watch "Downton" on pbs.org yet. Maybe tomorrow.
-
We're expecting four to six inches of rain over the next two days.
-
Five!
-
Well, that's it for me. Night, all.
-
Hello, everyone.
Glad all your projects are going so well, Bruce.
-
DR John G, thanks for posting the article about JOSE'S MY FAIR LADY (official new title). It was quite interesting. It must have been a VERY exciting night.
-
I keep thinking I want to post something, then can't recall what it was. I'm sure I'm the only DR who has this problem!
-
Awaiting the news from Vixmom re her PET scan.
-
Vixmom, where are you?
-
Man. Watched two episodes of The Killing III. I guess I managed to write eight pages but I think that's going to be it for today. I can't believe I feel guilty about it. Tomorrow, Muse Margaret gets however many pages I finish before driving them over to her in the mid-afternoon.

Thank you.
I wasn't the only one who watched it...someone else here did. ::)
-
I'm sure of it.

BK, will this be the first time that she actually gets to read what you've written?
-
Either way, good luck! Hope she really likes it! :D

Tonight, I dropped off several copies of the script to "Reservoir Dogs" that Pug (who adapted the movie script into a stage version) had written. I didn't stick around to watch the auditions.
-
I went to Costco to see if there was anything that I wanted to buy with the gift card that I got for Christmas, but there wasn't anything. I bought some gas yesterday, but nothing in the store called my name. Oh well...there will always be a next time.
-
I came home and watched the latest episode of "Happy Endings" and a bit of Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper from New Year's Eve (I hadn't deleted it off my DVR, yet) before tonight's "Castle" came on.
-
I decided to delete the Kathy and Anderson NYE because I had set my DVR to record seven, count 'em SEVEN hours and it took up a LOT of room on my DVR. I went from 75% filled to 39% filled.
-
Just had to share. :)
-
Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the Theater Artists Olympia board meeting, so we'll hear how tonight's auditions went.
-
Oh...I almost forgot! Vixmom, I sent you a package today! You should get it sometime next week.
-
If you see this message. :D
-
Gratuitous Post #140!

And now, I need to sleep. I didn't get to sleep until too late last night (actually, this morning) and I need to sleep more.
Good night, all. 8)
